It's seems that your boys have a good time with Ken. Are you planning on visiting Jamaica soon?

LOL...yeah they do! Ken is mad old school although he is only 28! So, every morning he has his expectations of what and what the boys should be doing or need to do before they go to school...han em come in like wan drill Sgt.! laughing.gif So they catch-up every now and den. But, it's nothing wrong em a tell dem! But for the most part they really respect and love their Steppy! He coaches their soccer team and we do family game night once or twice a week! My eldest son adores Ken! Follows him EVERYWHERE! My youngest...he's a Mama's boy luv.gif so he 'tolerates' Ken! But they still have love for each other!

As far as JA..Ken is trying to plan a extended weekend for us in August, when the boys are in DC with my Sister for a week. It will be wholly hell when they find out we went to yard w/o them!! mad.gif laughing.gif

My mission for this year is to BUY A HOUSE and file for KJ (Ken's son). With the $8000 tax break that Obama is offering I want to be able to take advantage of that and the low housing $$ right now! gILL..$8000 TAX BREAK? wi $13 dollar suppose to add up to $8000 somehow?

If your a 1st time home buyer and buy your home before 12/1/09...You can write off up to $8000 property taxes when you file!

It's a pretty good incentive! luv.gif I LOVE MY PRESIDENT!!!!! luv.gif

I got this from IRS.gov website:

Expanded Tax Break Available for 2009 First-Time Homebuyers

IR-2009-14, Feb. 25, 2009

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service announced today that taxpayers who qualify for the first-time homebuyer credit and purchase a home this year before Dec. 1 have a special option available for claiming the tax credit either on their 2008 tax returns due April 15 or on their 2009 tax returns next year.

Qualifying taxpayers who buy a home this year before Dec. 1 can get up to $8,000, or $4,000 for married filing separately.

“For first-time homebuyers this year, this special feature can put money in their pockets right now rather than waiting another year to claim the tax credit," said IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman. “This important change gives qualifying homebuyers cash they do not have to pay back.”

The IRS has posted a revised version of Form 5405, First-Time Homebuyer Credit, on IRS.gov. The revised form incorporates provisions from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The instructions to the revised Form 5405 provide additional information on who can and cannot claim the credit, income limitations and repayment of the credit.

This year, qualifying taxpayers who buy a home before Dec. 1, 2009, can claim the credit on either their 2008 or 2009 tax returns. They do not have to repay the credit, provided the home remains their main home for 36 months after the purchase date. They can claim 10 percent of the purchase price up to $8,000, or $4,000 for married individuals filing separately.

The amount of the credit begins to phase out for taxpayers whose adjusted gross income is more than $75,000, or $150,000 for joint filers.

For purposes of the credit, you are considered to be a first-time homebuyer if you, and your spouse if you are married, did not own any other main home during the three-year period ending on the date of purchase.

The IRS also alerted taxpayers that the new law does not affect people who purchased a home after April 8, 2008, and on or before Dec. 31, 2008. For these taxpayers who are claiming the credit on their 2008 tax returns, the maximum credit remains 10 percent of the purchase price, up to $7,500, or $3,750 for married individuals filing separately. In addition, the credit for these 2008 purchases must be repaid in 15 equal installments over 15 years, beginning with the 2010 tax year.

I need ur input. My daughter called my hubby by his first name. Back in Jamaica u never call a person older than u by their first name. I dont know what to tell my daughter to call him?

this is tough...was ur hubby here when ur daughter was born? Kimora was almost 2 when her dad came ..and she calls him daddy...so mi no know wah fi seh

do u call him daddy around her? do u say go give (1st name) a kiss or whatever? or do u say go tell daddy this or that..or get daddy's hat?

This is the 11 year old. Not the 2 yr old. Its my daughter not his. My stepdaughter calls me mommy.

Hey,

This is tough! My boys call my husband either by his first name...or 'Steppy'! It's all about how you introduce them! Unfortunately, at the time they first met I didn't think to call Ken, Steppy and introduced him as Ken...so now it's a habit. But since I've started calling him Steppy it's about a 50/50 percentage!

Sorry but I forgot who asked the questions but here are some of the answers....

Yes Married on March 13th so I can get residency by marriage...thus I won't have to apply for an expensive azz work permit (just got increased to $1500.00US)

The free zone is an area in Mobay (and I beleive in Kingston) where US companies are able to have call centers/offices/factories where they don't have to go through the paperwork of being in a foreign country...that area was shown in great detail in the movie "life and debt" I am trying to line up the work prior to going but if I don't have anything YES I must have enough to live on....with his pay as well cause he HAS TO WORK!

Problem about working for a hotel is that the tourism industry had declined so much lately that many people are out of work...there is talk that Round Hill is going to close 3 months this summer....

Hoping not to have to get a co-sponser. Still checking this out but having a letter guarantee' my employment upon return...along with my assests...I hope we will be ok.....(crossing fingers)

Does anyone know about one way tickets and problems with immigration? I was trying to forgo having to buy open ended round trip tickets and just get one way now and then come august get one way back...I will have both by the time I leave but didn't know if immigration will cause a scene???

Thanks again for all the well wishes..... I need all the positive thoughts I can get!

Jams,

I found this and the Free Zones are JA Gov't owned!
This site is a company that utilizes the FZ. It's a start!

The last few days have been lifechanging as I did make my decision to work towards moving to jamaica for 6-12 months. I was just at the point of starting the 1 year Massage program...(starts today) and was feeling torn and missing Michael like crazy....my job situation became less stable..thus the Visa Journey was looking a bit shakey...so, I mentioned to a friend in JA to look in her Yaad for a nice house to rent (Michael has a 1 bedroom) and she called the next day saying she was standing in MY HOUSE! Sooooooo I thought, and prayed, and asked peoples opinions.....I even had my taro cards read!!!! August 13th is the tentative date....I told my kids and my mom....My daughter (9) was way way too happy because she is a mini-me. My son (15)...not too happy and I have given him the chance to stay here with granny since he wasn't too crazy about JA from the last time I took him. My mom......well, didn't yall feel the earth move friday evening...cause she wasn't too happy about my news. Anyway....had my first sale of many on saturday....it was real last minute and only told friends and family....had 3 people show sad.gif but got one month of rent put away!!!!Wish me luck yall' now off to get my brakes done......

I so know how you feel! Just chalk it up to ...'Well, G-d has something else planned for me this month!' He ALWAYS has a bigger plan in mind for us...but we just can't see the full 100 yet! Just trust in him and YOUR MONTH...or nine months as the case may be will come!! luv.gif

Stay blessed,
Gill

Also Quans,

They don't just look at one years taxes! That's why they usually suggest you bring 3 years worth and they average! VJ Yardie family is awesome when it comes to stuff like this!

I haven't posted on here in ages (my bad) but was part of the original thread that started about 4 years ago. I just wanted to share that there is hope that the visa journey can eventually come to an end.

This past Friday, 4 years and 4 days since my husband arrived in the US on his K-1 Visa, he was naturalized as a US Citizen. We are very excited and are happy to put the "journey" behind us. God bless everyone of you and your families and as always, let me know if you have any questions, I am always happy to help in any way that I can.

Take Care,

That is so wonderful! Congratulations to you and your husband! kicking.gif

Mawning Yardies,

where's DARA????

Here I am (((waving))).. I took some days off from work and since I have no internet at home well no work means no play...lol

Girl where do you find your friends? For them to live in NYC you would think they would be more open minded since NYC is a melting pot. I mean geesh even I before falling in love with a Jamaican was pretty closed mind but never in my wildest dreams would I make some of the comments she said. Maybe you need a new circle of friends Newly...lol

Living in NY has nothing to do with making people more open minded - I have met some of the most close minded people in NY - there are neighborhoods that are completely segregated to one race / religion -

Agreed Sus...certain parts of NY are SO segregrated it's disgusting!! Howard Beach...Bensonhurst...Staten Island...don't even get me started on Long Island! no0pb.gif

Gill - start collecting after you get married just in case you have an AOS interview. Hopefully, you won't have an interview but you never know....just be prepared. Most things on our list we had to provide for the AOS interview so we were prepared for LOC. We had to show evidence of joint bank accounts, bills in both names, wedding pictures, health and life insurance policies, etc.....

Thanks SJB & JG...it's like a little mini reunion for the VJ-129F Yardie class of 2006. That's really sweet... luv.gif I hope in 2 years current filers can be the same way! Like I said before good luck to ALL of you....I can just imagine how nice it will to have the USCIS out of your lives...once and for ALL! I am sure you all will be fine...you have each other to bounce stuff off!

Nuh worry yuh...mi stay deh same way!!!! Mi fraidy fraidy bad! I use tuh hate when mi Granny start wid the duppy story dem!!! cause it meant another sleepless, duppy-watch night fi mi!!! laughing.gif

You can bring a Jamaican down to knees at the mention of ghost (duppy) and obeah (voodoo). Let a Jamaican man go in a closet and see his shoes lined up and one pair is Right and Left instead of Left and Right. He will toss the shoes and run cursing about obeah ting dat.

One friend of mine said her husband was so bad with the voodoo thing that she broke a plate while serving dinner. He picked it up tossed it and then proceeded to toss all the remaining food in the trash...talking about grown man won't eat what his foot bottam touched.

Ohhh my!! That is just too damn funny!!!! laughing.gif laughing.gif He better be the same one to go right to the suppermarket and buy me my dinner back!! yes.gif

My sentiments exactly. Right after he nursed the big knot on his head from the empty pot. Let me put in a little disclaimer as well. We know NOT all JAMAICANS think this way. I should have same some or the one or two examples I have heard or experienced. good.gif

You are dyam right Jawi...Give 'im one lick upside 'im head wid the empty pot, Yes!

Anyway, Jawi I'm glad you started this thread...I got a DYAM good laugh from it!! You guys have a great day I'm out!! Check the thread later fi some more laughs!
