I just can't believe that we are here...I've cried...worried...screamed and agonized over this day and it is finally here! (I hope it's not anti-climatic! laughing.gif ) We start our physical journey together as a power couple tonight...however our powerful love and spiritual togetherness has been there from day one!

I want to take a moment to tell all of you how grateful I am for your support and acts of kindness over the last nine months! Whether it's our seasoned Elders that helped me every step of the way or our welcomed new additions that have sent up their prayers upon our behalf! I feel truly blessed and humbled to be around such inspiring women everyday!

I recently read a thread about what MENA VJ means to a member...Well here's what Yardie VJ means to me:

Friendship, Sisterhood, Guidance, Patience, Understanding, Love, Nuturing, Compassion, Laughter, Tears, and a place to exhale!

THANK YOU GUYS FOR MAKING MY FIRST LEG OF THIS JOURNEY A LOT EASIER TO BARE... Sometimes we don't get to tell people in our lives how much of an impact they make upon us...Well, I didn't want to let this opportunity pass without letting ALL of you know how each and everyone of you have touched our lives (Ken & I). Each and everyone of you in some small way share in Ken's arrival here today...so again...We thank you! luv.gif

Hi

I am in Uk going to get married in Jamaica in May. While i was looking up visa info i came across this forum and I would like to say I wish the one in UK was as supportive as this one you all have each other's backs.

They don't want to let the Jamaicans into the UK - the refusal rate is very very high - how is it form JA to USA.

one love.

I have family in London & Birmingham and they keep telling me the same dyam ting! That the UK gov't is HARD AS HELL on immigrants coming from JA. My parents immigrated from JA to the UK in the 50's and I was born there. Then we moved to NY...but I really feel it for J'cans now! It's a few REALLY BAD APPLES that have ruined it for the bunch!! sad.gif

You are in my prayers for a speedy approval and please feel free to join us on the Yardie thread...ANYTIME!!!

Hey you all

Just wanted to share my joy with you all. I just got back from the embassy and i am happy to say my visa was approved kicking.gif I will now be wating on the arrival from air pak. I am hoping to leave around the 11th of April. I am so overwhelmed. I finally get to be with my baby dancin5hr.gif

word of advise to those going to the interview; do not take any lotion, perfume, umbrella, sharp objects or electrical appliance. If your partner can make it, let the attend the interview. it is so much easier with them there. I had all my evidence there and the interviewer did not ask to see any of it. She was pleasant and friendly. I must say i was so nervous before i got to the window but once the interview was on the way i was so relaxed because i was telling her about the love of my life so i was very comfortable, so be confident relax and enjoy.

good luck

The new one is vertically read and blue and pink in color. If you Fiance is applying for a BC now or has done so in the last 6-9 months it should be the new one!

Wah Haaa!!! Kimmy!!!

This reminds me of my time thru immigration and customs after being married. I never got asked much of anything before I was married and when i went after being married I got all sorts of questions. The immigration lady asked where my wedding was, my husbands name and address...his neighborhood the date of the wedding yada yada yada. i was like damn....you made cause you wasn't invited?!!

Then on to customs. I always get right thru. This time the lady look in my passport and say who yuh visit? i say my husband. She ask me what i carry down for him and his family. i say nothing, do I look like I'm rich and got all kinds of money to be showering people with random gifts!!! She took my word for it and let me go without a check. i didnt have nothing no way. But dang...some of the questions are stupid. Whats funny is that I think I'm being watched as a "drug smuggler"......long story.

LITA ME TOO!!!!
The last time I went to JA I was back in the States (CHarlotte, NC) and I make it through customs and security and I was about to get my bag and this officer was standing there and was all like "let me see your passport, are you alone, why did you go, what do you do, what does your husband do, where did you stay" I was like "oh no you dont"

You girls are going to have to tell your drug smuggler stories. I'm laughing already just thinking what they might be.

haha . You know, I guess there's a profile "look" of a female drug smuggler. You know the kind like in the movie Maria Full of Grace (GREAT movie by the way). So a common story is that you are a woman going back and forth to jamaica to visit a husband, but in reality your a drug smuggler like in that movie. Its apparently common, and I've seen the borchures about it that they give to kids. its crazy! The brochure is like a comic book, and shows a Jamaican girl who haivng a hard time making ends meet, her mother is sick and she has 2 babies. The thug drug dealers in her neighborhood entice her to make money by smuggling drugs in her system overseas. blah blah blah...it all goes down hill, and she ends up in jail, mom passes away and children become part of the system. CRAZY!! So I guess thats why these crazy questions come about, cause they are trying to see if i can prove that I really have a husband and the story is legit.

Congrats to all who have received interview dates!!I can't wait to be in that position.

I LOVE Maria Full of Grace. It came on cable the other day and Andre was like WTH? I said, you have to see this movie. He ended up sitting in the same spot the whole time, like he was mesmerized and couldn't move.

Yeah...I finally just got to see it the other day too! VERY GOOD!! So dyam sad though!!! What people have to do to get by is just heart-wrenching!

I'm so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

QUESTION CONCERNING INTERVIEW?????????????????

1. Does my SO's child have to go to the interview?

2. Does my SO's child have to get a medical as well?

We filed K-3 and her daughter is a K-4

Sorry 1 more question?????????

How many days past the interview should I plan on before she can come to America?

Need to buy plane tickets and I want to be safe.

J.,

1).We are taking my step-son to be with us.

2). We are making sure that we have my step-son-to-be's shot card and medical history with us.

3). From former Yardie filers I see an average of 7-10 business days til SO gets the actual visa in hand!

The medical question about child is a good one. I will call the 202 number I gave you and ask.

I filed a K1 & K2.

I CAN'T BELIEVE WE HAVE THE SAME DATE!!!!

That's awesome...GOOD LUCK J!!!! How did you find out?

I called the 202# you gave me

Good Deal!!! good.gif ...Save that number...we can call them after the interview (G-d willing with approvals) to ask them if Visa has been printed...this way we have a good estimate on exactly when our SO's should get them in hand!

KIM, girl don't get me started. The last time I went home I had a lot of things, because I was going for my engagement party. I don't matter how hard I try I always get the DRY FACE ooman in customs (face look like she did a role it in FLOUR). She take my passport, look in it and say, oh, Jamaican born, can you go over there please with you luggage. Then they dig up my suitcases, dropped some of my clothes on the floor, was just plain RUDE. So, you know I lost it. I started talking very loudly, THIS IS HOW YOU TREAT A U.S. CITIZEN that comes to visit JAMAICA. Her supervisor ran over immediately. Oh, wait, don't let me forget about the laptop I had to turn on and show her that I know how to use it and my DS handheld game system (she nevah know seh big woman play with those...a pickney things)...saying that to her co-worker. I told the supevisor I'm sick and tired of this treatment. I went through the same thing 6 times last year. It's as if they're picking on my FAMILY. they did my dad like that in April, June and September. They were very rude. What upsets me the most is that they DIG up your luggage and don't even attempt to try and fix your things back...

To remedy the situation the supervisor told me to tell them I'm comming on vacation. I told him, don't even bother. That's what I filled on of the form that they gave me on the plane and that's what I told immigration and the DRY FACE OOMAN ovah deh so. Because, mi a U.S. citizen but JAMAICAN born unu wah treat mi differently...no sah dat naw go wurk.

There is a Consular office in Mobay, I've been there a few times, but its not good for much. Its catered to Americans since it is apart of the US Embassy. But more so for American tourists, or visitors to the island who may not be JA residents yet. I wish they would have an Embassy extension in Mobay. That woulda helped me out so many times. I have yet to go to Kingston, cause its just so far away from my family there and annoying to get to.

This whole wait for 3 months to get an interview date is ridiculous!! Seriously the CR1 visa would be so simple and easy if Jamaica didn't tack on an additional 60-90days after NVC to schedule an interview! I cannot believe that little island processes THAT many visas in one month!

I hear you Lita both about the damn Embassy extension and the interview scheduling thing!!

It's like you have to drop off your paperwork on the 2nd to last monday, but not during a full moon, half moon or quarter moon... before 2:51pm...but not after 2:52pm...in a green shirt wearing a red hat and black cowboy boots...They just make it DYAM DIFFICULT!!! mad.gif I think they do it on purpose to deter visa applications!

Honestly...it's like fall in love with a US Citizen or you are a$$ out!!

Wanted to start a thread for Jamaica VJ'ers who are about to be scheduled an interview or who has been scheduled an interview in Jamaica.

My SO talked to the embassy on 1-21-08 and they told her that we would have an interview scheduled by late Feb. or early March. But still no word yet.

Has anyone been scheduled an interview yet for the months of Feb., March, or even April?

Hey J.,

I called the embassy on Monday and they told me pretty much the same thing. They are very behind, but all late feb. Early March interviews should be scheduled by next week the LATEST!!!! I am at my wits end at this point!! I just want a date so I can book my fare and GET ON WITH IT!!!!

Bless-ed,
Gill

P.S- Let's keep in touch...it looks like we will be scheduled around the same time!! If I hear anything I will tell you...you hear anything PM mi...Zeen?

I am going to disagree with the comment about breaking down and paying the fee.

If you have a strong conviction, Phat, that he help you in this payment, I say stand by that conviction. If you believe he is able to help himself in this and just isn't for various reasons, I would take your stance. When I was going through, I believed Andre must help as well. He worked. He could do it just as I could. And, I believed it was an indication of how badly he wanted this as much as I did. He did not let me down. I have found that this trend has continued throughout the last two years.

If you are just being stubborn and he isn't CAPABLE fo helping, then I say swallow your pride and do what you can.

Either way, I wish you luck.

Hey Maddy,

Longtime no see Chica. Look Mads, I'm with JG on this one. You had your reason for making sure your Hubby was as vested in this move as you were. STICK TO YOUR GUNS!!! At least let him come up with half the $$.

Whew!! Well after readng this ere i dont know if I am more scared than ever! That was a roller coaster ride. had to stop reading 3 times just to catch my breath. Thanks for this experience it really does help.
Were there really over 200 interviews that day? That is crazy. Mi tell yuh seh its wan exodus outta Jamaica. Now I am more nervous about the mister going the interview alone. He is very soft spoken and may get all tongue tied if someboday start yelling at him like this lady. I just dont know if I can afford to fly down there again plus for our anniversary

No, no, no no, NO! Stop those thoughts right now. You are going to do exactly what I tell you to do right now.......what I told Gill and what I told Tre. You are going to pep talk that man of yours before the interview. You are going to quiz him over and over until he knows everything backwards and forwards. You are going to prep him with so much proofs, he is going to overwhelm them. You are going to build his confidence, even if you are pretending. In turn, this is going to build yours. Evan is going to walk in there like he owns the place. He will be fine.

Most importantly, in 9 days or whatever your timeline says, the two of you are going to reconnect and reassure each other.

STOP stressing about things before they even give you reason to stress over them. You can do this, Marlita. You have come so far. The wait has been hard; but it is not going to kill you. Just hang in there. We will talk you through it. We will pray for you. Please do not stress until you absolutely have to.

It's almost over.

And last; but not least, the approval rate on the Yardie thread has been very, very good as of late. We do know what we are doing and we seem to be getting better and better with time. You will benefit from that knowledge and experience. Trust us. Trust Evan. And most importantly, trust yourself!

DEAD ON!!! good.gif good.gif DYAM RIGHT JG...LITA, I HAVE KNOW YOU CAN PUSH HUBBY THROUGH THIS!!

HE WILL BE FINE!! JUST MEK SURE YOU QUIZ HIM CONTINUOUSLY!!! HEAD-UP & GAME FACE ON!!! YOU HAVE BOTH WAITED TOO DYAM LANG FUH AVE DIS JACKASS OOMAN SPOIL DEH RUNNINGS!!!

P.S.- I would send a letter to the Ambassador and to Condie Rice's office!! Explaining to them that is it there policy to HARASS U.S. citizens at the Kingston Embassy and for a 25 year vet - she obvioulsy has a great deal to learn about the process and even more to learn about empathy and courtesy!

As you know...I'm a single mommy so I don't party as much as I would like to here in the States. The few times that I have really ventured out to catch some dancehall vibes have all been dead, and each time I vowed to stop wasting my time until I reach yaad.

I don't want to take Dwane and Wakey to any ole spot for his first night out and about. What nights did your husband or SO like for the Dancehall/Reggae clubs here? What clubs should we avoid?

Thanks for all your help.

Jawi876

Jawi,
I don't like to refer my peeps to spots that I've never visited. However, there is First Fridays at Seasons (Tucker, GA). Here is the link-
http://caribbeanvibe...yer.php?id=1586

My husband said that Bass Odyssey is a good sound. He said that Dwane should be familiar with them. It is free tomorrow before 11:30. Check out the flyer to see where to RSVP. I've visited Club 426 in Stone Mountain (Memorial Drive) on Friday & Saturday. It was sort of empty on Friday, but dem play some nice tune! Saturday night was filled with the Virgin Island Massive.

If you guys don't go out tomorrow, then definitely check out Club 426 or Aquarium. Both clubs are in the same plaza. There are drink specials at Aquarium. See link.
http://caribbeanvibe...yer.php?id=1589
Special on rum & coke, beer & LI Iced Tea.

Text or call me to let me know the movements. Maybe Kevin & I can meet you there.

Later,

Kelia

Hey Ladies biggrin.gif ...so good to see you both!

Yeah... in reality...if we have Grandkids (Jah willing) ...we would have to be snowbirds and go back and forth! Sounds like a plan Ty-Ty & Lawny! We should all link up in a next 20-30 years!! (Again Jah willing)

Hey Honey,

Ken & I are planning to retire back home also. We have numerous locations that we can build on around the country (due to my inherited property and his) But we will probably sell those and buy something between MoBay and Negril. Ken is very serious about getting this accomplished before our sons go to college, so they always have somewhere to stay if they go down for Spring Break or Vacation.

Life in JA can be hard...but we both believe a). our money will go MUCH further down there and b ). the U.S. is to dog- eat dog and you are working so hard just to make ends meet...you never really have an opportunity to enjoy it! We want to enjoy the 'Golden Years' of our lives and to us JA is the optimal place to do that!

We never really considered the U.S. our permanent location. JA is and will always be home for us.

Bless,
Gill

Hi guys:

Please I need your help. I have not gotten yet the NOA2 but yesterday we were talking with my fiancee about whats the proceedin after getting it. I told him that after CSC sends our file to Peruvian Embassy, they will send me package 3. And after that, what? is there a package 4? When will peruvian embassy inform me about the authorized doctors for medical examination? After I have all my documents and medical examination, I should call to the peruvian embassy for scheduling an appointment for interview or they will send to me a letter giving me an specifical date?

As you can see, dear friends, I need to know what are the next steps, cause I want to have everything prepared and in order for the interview moment. Please if you could help us, we will be very thankful...

Thanks in advance... kisses

A Jamaican guy walks into a whorehouse in New York and asks, "You have a girl work here from Jamaica name Arlene?"
"Yes," answers the madam. "Go on up to Room 6." So the fellow went up to Room 6 and knocked on the door. When the woman answered, he asked "Yu name Arlene, don't it?"
"Yeah man, a me dat," replied the woman.
"Well, a have a couple Hundred dollas...." he proudly announced.
With that, the hooker interrupted him, grabbed the money, opened the door wide and hauled him by the shirt into the room. After a little rest from the vigorous sex, the fellow got up to leave. "Will you be here tomorrow?" he asked.
"Yeah Man," Arlene said, "Me will deh yah."
The next night, the fellow comes back and gives up $200. When they were done, he's sitting on the side of the bed, and asks. "Will you be here tomorrow night?"
"Honey," replied the hooker, "Mi deh yah every night fi you".

"Tell me sumthin'," Arlene said, "what part of Jamaica yu from?"

"True ? Me have one sister live inna Portmore yuh know!" the hooker exclaimed.
"I know dat," the fellow replied, "She gimme six hundred dollas fi gi yu!"
