Good Morning All! Happy Friday!

Happy Anniversary JG! Have fun celebrating! devil.gif

Honey - good to hear the update on your man.

Lita - hit by a bus??? I am glad you survived that. Ouch.

May I request a collective prayer? Something is up with the DS-230 part 1 that my SO returned to the embassy. They received it two weeks ago and have not assigned an interview date. I have sent two emails and I've gotten no response. Please prayer that whatever the problem may be that it gets resolved quickly and that the interview gets assigned. This is making me nervous. Thank you ladies!

Mrs H - did you call the 202 #? Gill swears by them!!
The embassy seems to be ignoring e-mails right now. I know there are a few of us who have sent some and received no replies.

laughing.gif Ms. H, don't fret...Ken dropped his DS230 off 1/15/08 and we didn't get our interview date til 2/1/08. Just call the 202# to confirm that they have it! I bet if you call today or tomorrow...they will have an interview date for you...maybe you already have one...but I haven't read deep enough into the thread!

Mawning Family,

Sunny...so sorry we couldn't link...we probably passed each other on the NJ Turnpike laughing.gif...Well ya'll I dropped the boys off with my Sister in DC on Saturday and she flew them down to Fl to spend time with my Dad! I AM KID FREE FOR TWO WEEKS!!!!! ...the first time in almost TEN Years!! I dropped off Ken at work yesterday morning and HATED being at home...too dyam quiet! unsure.gif

But I ain't gonna lie...running out to get a pedicure and hit up Panera with my Girlfriend in the evening was FUN!!! Not a care in the world...not Chick , nor child fi worry bout! biggrin.gif

Gill

Hey everyone....

going to give a little update on what has been happening....

Kaila is doing great!!! Goes for her 2 month check up on tuesday...she is going to get "gifts" not sure who is going to be more upset she or i.....

in July i am going to file for divorce....there are many things i have come to realize about mike and that he is never going to change or be the man i need him to be....and honestly he was just in it for the GC.....it sucks to realize that....life goes on.....

a lot of things have started to fall into place...so in a couple of months i will start taking classes at a local college and be able to stay home with Kaila....which is great!!

I am happy to hear about all the recent approvals!!!

Nans,

I am so proud of you! You are right life doesn't always have an expected fairy tale ending...but you make your own fairy tales come true!!! Maybe you and Mike weren't meant to be... but look at the beautiful gift of a Baby girl that WAS meant to be here! I thank G-d everyday for my sons...because they saved my life. After you have children you re-focus your life and decisions and push forth because of them!
After my divorce I went back to my comm college got my associates, then my Bachelors and finally my Masters all while being a single Mom! Gurl, you are truly blessed to have Kaila and realize early enough that you CAN NOT change someone that does not CARE to change!

Like I said Shauna...I'm SO damn proud of you!! Go forth into your Brave New World, Chica and carve out your own dyam fairly tale ending!! good.gif luv.gif wink.gif

Bless-ed love always,

Gill

I agree totally Gill! Nans, you will come out of this much stronger person and wonderful role model to your daughter. I pray for your strength. Sounds like you have a great mom behind you as well. And sometimes it takes "us" a trial run of marriage before we get is right! rose.gif

ALright ladies, im needing some prayers this morning. Yesterday i did not talk to my SO all day, nor night for the first time in 4 months, so i automatically knew something was wrong, i tossed and turned all night. The last time i talked to my SO he was getting off work monday night and heading to Margaritaville, He usually calls when he leaves despite the hour to let me know he is heading home, but he never did. Tuesday is his day off. No call, well i just get a call this morning from his friend reggie saying he got hit by a car!!! and is kind of ok!!!!! WTH...is kind of okay...his phone is destroyed and i have no way to get in contact with him. His friend reggies patois was so heavy i could barely figure out what the heck he was saying.....OMG!!! i have to go to work this morning and im about to have dang anxiety attack. Guys pray for us ok, i really am needing to find out if he is okay and what is going on. I tell him about walking in the road all the time, but he doesnt listen. Lets hope he is ok. Thanks.. i just needed to ramble a little, until i can calm down so i dont start bawling crying.gif

Oh Honey, You are definitely in my prayers! Do you have the phone number for any of his family members? He will be fine...the good Lord did not carry you both to this point to drop you now...Have Faith Chica and NEVER stop praying!

That's right Gill, I told dave just do his best and enjoy the experience. The store manager hired him for customer service/ warehouse crew but he's already training him for some of the other departments next week. If nothing else, atleast he'll gain experience and get references if he moves onto another job.

I hope things are going well at Ken's job too! It's because of you two that me and dave even went the JFK route, and it worked out. LOLLLLL

Hiya Fam,

laughing.gif laughing.gif I am so glad it worked out Chica!! So glad that Dave is learning and enjoying the experience! good.gif Ken is doing just fine! But in typical Yardie style he is looking to pick-up a next job to do on his days off and at night! We take the boys down to D.C. this weekend and my Sister is taking them to Florida to spend time with her and our Dad!

We were looking forward to the DC trip...cause from my understanding it's West Indian Carnival down there this weekend. However, Ken's restaurant has a HUGE catering job and the boss 'Can't do it without him!!' mad.gif ...He told Ken he would make it worth his while if he came in pon Sunday...so we will see!!!! whistling.gif So I told Ken we could go to another parade in NYC this weekend... Sunny,

It took about 7 days for my case to get to NVC..Then once they got it I was able to get the KNG# for it. It was then sent to Kingston the next day. You can track it by way of DHL once you have the KNG#...This will give you an idea of when it reaches Kingston...

I have my KNG#. I received it in the mail from the NVA around the 8th of June or so. I was just wondering why it takes so long to get to Kinston. They said they mailed it out to the embassy on the 13th.

I know Sunny it stinks.Ok, now you can send the embassy an email put your KNG# in the subject line along with 'Request appointment to drop-off DS-230'

Hopefully...things should speed up from here on in! good.gif

Evening, all - I left work at noon today, went and got a spa pedicure, then came home and took a nap! I woke up and watched the Bucket List - incredibly sweet movie if you haven't seen it.

Congrats, Auntie Marlita, she's adorable! And I agree JAEng, the pics of your son just get cuter and cuter!

Gill, I agree with you about loving hearing the good stories - I am going to a baby shower next week for a friend who married a JA man on a K1 - they have been married 5 (I think) years, just bought a house, and this is their second child. She is a constant inspiration to me to have faith.
Welcome Army wife - I think you should be fine, as JAEng said - If your overstay was less than one year, then you should be able to adjust no problems - if it was greater than one year, you might have to file a waiver for the overstay - But I know people who have done similar and now have their green cards (not from JA).

Hope everyone has a good weekend - any plans?

For real Sus-ie...that WONDERFUL!!! good.gif Jah knoa...mi love dat!

Thanks for the share!

There's a printout on a link here on VJ that you can print and take with you to the SS office if you are running into problems.

So far they've not been able to refute that....

Jengles....from what I understand now, the total fee for AOS of the K-1 includes the EAD, AP, and AOS. 3 forms with supporting evidence, processed seperately; but sent in together with the one fee. If you decide to only do AOS, you still pay the same fee.

Yeah, that's right Kel. The fee for AOS is $1010 whether u file the EAD and AP with it or not. Some people wait to send off the EAD and AP paperwork till after they get a receipt notice (I-797) from their AOS packet but while ur already paying the fee....u might as well "apply" for all 3 documents at one time.

U can still apply for the SS# regardless if u got the JFK work stamp or not. He just can't work until you've gotten married and he has his EAD.

Since we're on the topic.....LOL.....DAVE STARTED HIS NEW JOB TODAY!!!!!!! kicking.gif kicking.gif He got his SS# last friday and applied at a bunch of places this week, thinking he'd be lucky to get anything with the JFK work stamp. I need some help! I am sure VJ Guides can answer my questions but I keep looking and just don't understand..... hoping any of you could give me answers or advice.

Louis can apply for SS# now... but he cannot work with it right? So really what is the point?

After we get married I apply for AOS... what about EAD? What and how do I do that?

I am so frustrated this is all like ALgebra to me!!?? UGH!

Thanks
Cat

For us, Andre had to be work authorized to apply for his SSN. It didn't happen till he got his green card.

You apply for the EAD, AP, and AOS all at the same time with the one fee. Just make sure to include the evidence for each seperately as they process them seperately. Of course, none of this can be done till you marry. Cart before the horse.

Thanks JG! I think the only reason for Louis' to get SS# now is to get his driver's License. They JUST (june 1st) past a law here that you need to have ss# to get a Maine DL.

Irie - did he get the work authorization stamp in his passport when he cleared immigration? I believe he needs that in order to get his SSN now. Otherwise you have to wait until you file AOS.

We only waited 10 busines days before he applied for his SSN card. Had to wait to get in the system.

Not sure if anything has changed.

Irie,

We didn't wait to apply for the SSN here in NY. Ken got here on 4/2/08...4/3/08 we went to the SSA office. But they did say that it would take 2-4 weeks for him to get it b/c they had to clear with USCIS that he was eligible for a SSN. But at least this way he had his card in 2 weeks instead of waiting 2 week after Louis gets here and then waiting another 2 weeks for the card.

Good luck,

Gill

Hola Fam,

Lawny, my darling...I am wishing you nothing but the best on your interview...I KNOW WILL GUYS WILL GET THROUGH!!! Sending positive vibes your way...You have done your homework and leg work...now sit back relax and let the good Lord guide you through this! Don't let ANYONE at the Embassy shake you...just brush them off!!!

Honey, Baby Girl...you need to ask your SO if he had the time to take his son why doesn't he have the time to take himself? What will his son do without a Father if his tooth is abcessed and more serious than he thinks. Can I tell you a few weeks ago I had a boil in my ears...Ken insisted upon popping it...then it came back the week before my wedding even bigger and more painful!

I kept telling myself I;ll deal with it after the wedding. The next day my youngest son, Gavin fell down and kept complaining about his hip. I immediately found the time to take him to the doctor. When we got to the Dr. Gavin tell her..."I'm fine...I need you to look in my Mommy's ear!" Thank G-d my son had more sense than I did. His pediatrician immediately called the her friend an ENT and told me to go to his office NOW!! He will see you as soon as you get there...Gillian this is very serious!!

I went and low and behold the boil had turn into and abcess and was slowly leaking into my ear canal and blood stream. The ENT told me I would probably have been hospitalized in very serious critical condition if I would have waited until after my wedding!!!

I know long story short...sometimes we as parent are so concerned with taking care of our children we forget to take care of ourselves!!!

One days pay will NOT kill him or his child compared to NO MORE DAYS PAY if something serious happens.

I hope he feels better soon. He's in my prayers for a speedy resolution!

Blessed,
Gill

It is pretty slow on that end as well, takes about 2 weeks just for a letter from JA in my experience.

Ohhhh please...I am STILL waiting for my Valentine's day Card and CD from Ken!!!! Ken never signs his cards so I think a dyam JA post office teef opened it and took the card & CD and recycled it to his Girl for V-day! laughing.gif laughing.gif

Hi all,

Okay I have an issue. My SO went to Kingston to pick up his police record the other day. Well he informs me yesterday that they left a letter out of his name. It should be Jeromie but they spelled it Jerome. Although he goes by Jerome, Jeromie is on his birth certificate. Anyway, I called NVC and they stated that it may make a difference because the CO at the interview may think its someone else or an alias...OMG, it seems the closer we get to this interview date, the more issues arise. I told him to call Kingston and inform them of the error and see if anything can be done without having to make another 4 hour trip. (doubtful)
I swear its almost impossible to stay sane going thru this process. Then to make matters worse, I call about not receiving my rebate check yesterday only to find out that it was mailed out but went to an address that was on file for my 2007 taxes which was incorrect. Wouldn't you know it, my taxes were prepared by someone else thru Taxact and direct deposited into my account. I went to retreive my paperwork and never paid attention to the address. Well they typed in the correct city, state, and zip but wrong street address.(which is partially correct) So this means that the 2007 tax info I gave my SO has an incorrect address. I did include previous years tax info,W2's and paystubs which all display the correct address. Now i'm wondering if this will make a difference. You would think, with all the mistakes the embassy makes, but it will be just my luck.

Ty,

I really don't think it would be a huge problem...the issue is "the luck of the draw'!

Ken reminded me last night that they spelled his name wrong on the non-impedment to marriage and his police certificate! He is Keniel...they spelled it Keneil. Ken actually told the Police people and the guy said "Nuh boddah fuh worry yuhself bout dat Man...dem nah guh check hit! " granted he was right but still. And the Non-impedment ...we waited for 6 weeks to get it and we didn't have that type of time to file it again!

Now it's slight enough, but no one even caught it...I really think it depends on who is checking it and what mood they happen to be in that day!

Try not to stress...remember what I told you it WILL work out!!

Gill

THE THOUGHT GIVES ME HEART PALPITATIONS,LOL. ANYWAY, YOU GUYS SEEM LIKE A GOOD SUPPORT NETWORK FOR EACH OTHER AND I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE BEING A PART OF IT. ANY POINTERS ON HOW TO COPE WITH USCIS AND THE IMPENDING SEPARATION WILL EXTREMELY WELCOME.

Welcome 'KC' (nice one Jawi wink.gif ),

Keep your head up, Sweets...everything is just for 'a time'. Yuh see mi? Try to think of it as a temporary setback to a permanent achievement! The way I got through was playing the "Before this or that" game. Like when I filed for my husband, Ken in July 2007...I told myself "Ken will be here BEFORE the 2008 Olympics!" So said...so done! Give yourself a reasonable marker...and you'd be surprised how quickly it comes. And don't forget deh Father!

Pray, pray...PRAY!!! All is possible through him and he WILL give you the strength!!

I reminded him every day that he worked that he needed to save some. The day he came home with a new hat and shirt for himself, how pissy I would be if he didn't get me a birthday present. I reminded him every time he had something he NEEDED.

I have every right to be mad. I'll be damned if I am apologizing. I was just being sarcastic.

I have a copy of his medical from Jamaica. Someone help me before I start pulling out my eyelashes. I had to go change my clothes. That's my understanding also. But I was told that the information on his vaccination record had to be transfered to some new form 693A and signed by a civil surgeon (Someone please correct me, if I was given the wrong information. When we came through Baltimore I was given a copy of his medical (because I asked for it). I'm was just going to attached that to the AOS. Immigration has the other 4 copies. That's why they wanted 4 pictures at the medical. Four copies are made of your medical. That's the paper work I saw when we were with the immigraiton officer and I asked is it possible to have a copy of that and he said sure. Hope this helps. Girl, I'm suppose to be asking you for help, Mrs. Young.

Will we succeed overnight? No. Making these changes—the right way—will take longer than my tenure as Acting Director. Nonetheless, we’re committed to making them sooner rather than later.

In other words - I am gonna make myself look good and get outta here before the changes are done, so that the blame will fall on someone else.

Processing Questions

I’ve been reading—absorbing the more than 400 comments you left from my last Journal entry. You’ve asked many questions—mostly about our processing times, wait times for visa approvals, and how we’re responding to the record number of applications we received last year.

But most of all, you want to know when USCIS will complete your case. Let me try to address some of your concerns.

After visiting local USCIS offices around the country and reviewing our current production statistics, I am confident USCIS will beat our projected 13- to 15-month processing estimate for completing naturalization applications filed after June 1, 2007—while we continue to improve processing times for other applications and petitions. Next month, we will provide you with a detailed report with updated processing times for all USCIS offices.

Our employees are hard at work every day, including evenings and weekends, processing files and interviewing applicants. The results of their efforts show tremendous productivity. I am optimistic that USCIS will exceed our goal of completing more than 1 million naturalization applications this fiscal year, which ends September 30, compared to last year’s 748,000 naturalization cases. And so far, applications received have been lower than normal this year. If that continues, we’ll bring processing times down further than we projected.

Many of you also asked about the processing times displayed at http://www.uscis.gov/, and why the dates sometimes go backward rather than forward. We estimate those dates based on a formula that calculates, among other things, the number of cases received within a defined period, how many cases we’ve completed during that time period, and how many cases remain in process that are [*] beyond our established processing time goals. Sometimes the flow of cases received and completed changes during a specific period in a way that shifts the date backwards. The processing timeframes shown on our webpage reflect applications just completed. So the page is only a tool for customers to estimate our current processing times.

In addition, the average processing times posted on our website do not take into account the many issues that may arise when a particular case is under review. For example, sometimes a USCIS officer may need to ask for additional information before a final decision can be made. If your case has been delayed beyond our posted processing times and you have not been asked for additional information, we encourage you to call our customer service line at 1-800-375-5283 to inquire about the status of your case. blink.gif
Some of you also asked about the long wait for employment-based visas. The law limits how many people can immigrate in these employment based preference categories each year. That determines how many cases we can complete and often establishes how many new cases we can accept. To complicate matters, demand often far exceeds that supply. To assist applicants who are awaiting those visas, we will soon begin to issue Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) that are valid for 2 years for certain applicants who filed an application to adjust their status to permanent resident but are still awaiting an immigrant visa number.

Others have asked why petitions for their relatives take so long to process. Usually, it’s because an immigrant visa simply isn’t available. More than 1 million petitions to sponsor a relative are still awaiting visas. USCIS must manage our work based on the number of visas allowed by law. To change that, Congress would have to amend the law. No USCIS employee wants to keep a family apart or withhold proof of eligibility to work, but we must work within the requirements set by law.

Our current immigration system challenges us with backlogs on a regular basis. During the past fiscal year, we’ve begun to make improvements that will permanently eliminate future backlogs, including hiring additional employees, instituting new business processes and technology, and creating a new employee culture focused on professional training and development.

Will we succeed overnight? No. Making these changes—the right way—will take longer than my tenure as Acting Director. Nonetheless, we’re committed to making them sooner rather than later.

Thanks for taking time to read this entry.

QUOTE (Ms. Hellwig @ Jul 16 2008, 11:13 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Ladies,

I am at my wits end. I haven't been around the message board for a bit because I guess I was hoping I would have some answers or stuff would work, etc. It has been over two weeks since I've talked to my SO and I don't know what is going on or what has happened. He won't or can't take my calls. I've called cousins of his and friends. They were hopeful at first and said don't worry. One of his friends says he keeps trying to call him but is not getting through. I've asked his cousins to get me more contact numbers and they haven't called me back in a couple of days. I just don't know what to think......except that this has happened before.

We've known each other for over five years. We filed for a fiance visa back in 2003 but very tragically his oldest son was killed in an accident and my SO lost it which is understandable. He was all consumed with caring for his youngest son after that who was only 14 at the time and he cut me out and we broke up. During the last five years we reconciled and we were both ready to get married and make a life together so I filed for the fiance visa again.

Now we were as far as receiving Packet 3 from the embassy. My SO mailed in a form which I later found out was the wrong form, hence we still haven't gotten an interview date. Basically, my last conversation, as brief as it was, was that he sent in the wrong form. He didn't believe me. We made a date to talk later to go over the papers over the phone and make sure he gets the correct one sent off. He didn't answer my call. The next day I got ahold of him but he was busy so he said he would call me after church the next day. The next day he did not call and ever since I haven't gotten through to him.

I just can't believe we are so close and once AGAIN it seems he is losing it. More hurtful is that I just plain don't know what is going on. We didn't argue. No big drama.

May I request a prayer for peace with the issue and things to work out to God's plan. I honestly believed it was part of God's plan that he and I were together again. I haven't completely given up hope but it doesn't look good either.

Thank you all.

Oh Ms. Hellwig,

I am so sorry to hear this. You are in my prayers for a speedy resolution and the strength to handle it regardless of the outcome. I hope he at least opens the lines of communication again, that must be so painful!

You deserve so much more! Let him be...as much as you WANT him to WANT this ...he needs to WANT this for himself!

I know it is so difficult...but maintain your faith...Let go and let G-d work this out Chica!

Bless-ed love always,
Gill
