CanadaI'm GIDDY and excited, I found an apartment!!
Hey everyone, I have been diligently looking for a short term lease in Michigan and was not doing too well! I could find 6 month leases, but I really don't want to commit in case (hope and pray) my visa comes thru before 8 months.

ANYWAY, blah blah I found an apartment that will lease for 3 months! and they accept cats. YAY! so after July 1, I will be 2 hrs and 15 min away from my husband. I am so happy I could cry.

We can finally (at least on weekends) be real life newlyweds. I seriously can't stop grinning.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!

They're also being cool about me renting without employ. Just have to show them my savings account balance. ROCKING GOOD NEWS.

CanadaUS Citizen coming to Canada

Not to stir anything up, just an update on my wifes trip to the hospital for her ankle. (She is the US citizen) We spent over 3 hrs in the waiting room for her to be admitted. She was in immense pain, tears flowing the whole time, no meds to dull the pain, just ice. Once admitted, we saw the PA for maybe 5 minutes in total. Had Xrays complted, showed no broken bones. Was just a very bad sprain. Just recieved the bill today, it came to $1200. I'm sure our insurance will cover the majority of it if not all. Just my 1st experience with the USA system.

Wel-come to Ah-Med-ica!

CanadaUS Citizen coming to Canada
On the topic of U.S. vs. CA and healthcare...

Just my two cents. I am USC, lived here my whole life.

In 1990 my father was diagnosed with lung cancer. He had recently been laid off at 55 yrs old, a company he worked for forever sold out and the new young team let him go. He was in between medical insurance but thought he'd be ok since he could get Medicare. Since he was a Veteran they wouldn't allow him to get medicare. They said he was "lucky" because he was qualified for Veteran's coverage.

He died in the veteran's hospital, after some of the worst medical attention you could ever imagine. The VA nurses and doctors were all either "doing time" to work up to work at a real hospital, and the docs were malpractice leftovers. We had to do round the clock surveilance as a family to make sure they wouldn't do something evil to him. The week before he died they accidently radiated his brain. He was a vegetable when I last saw him before he died.

Fast forward to 2001. My beautiful 2 yr old niece was born with a rare brain cancer. At the time my brother and SIL had been looking to buy a house (their first) they had about 30K in savings. They now live in a 1 bedroom apt in the scariest ghetto neighborhood (4 people/1 bdrm). They have not a dime to their name because even with insurance and child care services Cindy's bills, 1.5 million, have left them completely wiped out. Her first brain surgery was $500K, the second $300k, some of her medicines are $100 an ounce. She is still fighting for her life, and they are over $500K in debt. Because she's a kid instead of an adult she's one of the lucky ones, as child care services won't just let her die.

Please don't think that being in the states and having medical coverage means you'll always be ok. My mother was so desperate to get my dad some real (expensive) treatment that she started paying it with credit cards. She lost the house we grew up in and at retirement age had ZERO funds to her name. All to try and get my dad a few more months on the planet, and to see doctors that weren't rejects.

It sounds like both countries have bad and good. I read your stories about how horrible canadian healthcare is, I get scared (since I'm moving there) and all I have to do is think about my dad and my niece. My mother lucked out and married again to someone with some $, so she's ok. My brother & SIL still live in the slums and Cindy is still battling, their debt will be forever and they'll never get out of it.

You probably already know this but there is great help in the waivers at immigrate2us.net

they post waiver letters that were approved to give you good help in writing it, comparing it to ones that you know have been approved.

CanadaI got arrested
Yeah, and just like on TV but instead of saying "we're taking you downtown missy" they said "we're taking you downstairs". And you know that if you would have offered $40 to get out of it, they'da said you're trying to bribe, but since they were the ones to ask, it was alllll good.

WOW, was your heart kinda pounding? mine would have been!!

USCIS Service CentersIs there an email address for NBC?
I received NOA1 on January 31, my check is stamped with a different receipt number (off by a few characters) than my NOA1... and neither of them are being acknowledged via telephone case status or online case status (both say "no such case exists"). The FAQ page says you can contact NBC:

a) online, most preferred, with receipt number (can't do it)
B) by phone (says no such thing)
and then c) by mail is "least preferred".

I have this sinking feeling like my receipt number is messed up. I was hoping to straighten this out early instead of finding out 6 weeks from now that it is in fact messed up.

I assume there is no live human you can call to speak with either ?

K-1 cases don't show up in the automated system, you have to talk to an actual operator

You mean by the automated system, the online case status too? are we talking about different things? and if so, is that the same for k3? I just would love to be acknowledged as having a case - on robophone or online...

but since my case "doesn't exist" than I put that in and it says it isn't available

Is there a number to press to speak to someone? I am on the line right now and going round and round so frustrated...

Ignore my question. What a joke. The guy I talked to was just blah blah blah blah. He said Oh, if it says online that we're working on January 30, it really means December 30.... and if you're not showing up online, don't worry, we don't even update that database.

So why do they HAVE a feature to check ANYTHING online, if they don't use it?

I have read it is *normal* to not show up in the system, but I thought it might be interesting to post timelines of the case-that-does-not-exist people, maybe it is my imagination but there are alot of us out there. It might ease our minds to see that other people don't exist either, and to track when they Do Exist compared to our own NOA dates.

btw can you write the address where you mailed docs? thanx

YEAH! What Mew said! how the hell are you supposed to do anything if you can't email them, the phone calls don't reach them, and they won't tell me sh*t about what's going on with our case? Am I supposed to send them psychic thoughts? This is really BAD!!

Anyway, I got the Overnight delivery address on the USCIS website

US Citizenship and Immigration Services
California Service Center
24000 Avila Road, 2nd Floor, Room 2312

But from Ronin posted, it looks like letters are accepted by them. WHATEVER.

USCIS Service CentersI think I have broken an all time record contacting CIS
I posted on NVC forum this week that our CR-1 application was sent back to CSC and they won't give us any details why (Approved NOA2 July 21).

After contacting the 800# yesterday and getting nowhere (they said call NVC, NVC said call CIS), I drafted a letter and sent if Fedex to CSC. Frankly, I DID NOT expect any response for weeks.

They signed for the letter this morning at 10 a.m. PST and it is now 3 pm PST and I just got an email that they have replied. THE SAME DAY!! Wow I knew I could write good letters, LOL, but I am in shock.

On August 25, 2006, we responded to your request for more information concerning your case. If you have not received our response within 30 days from this date, please call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

I really cannot believe they responded this quickly.

From other posts, it appears to be a new layer of B.S. they are using. I got it after mailing something in, but it is weird you'd get it when you haven't... maybe it is in regards to the added evidence, and it translates to leave-us-alone-for-30days before you try and talk to us about this!!

USCIS Service CentersSpeaking to live person at USCIS?
I spoke to a real person after sending my change of address to USCIS 3 times and still finding mail getting sent to my old address. The person did NOT want to take my new address, until I practically begged and explained that mailing it in had done no good. So she reluctantly took the new addy and I got a letter acknowledging it after 1 week.

I have talked to an immigration officer on that line, and they couldn't tell me squiddly diddly.
Married_my_loveNot TellingCanada2006-09-10 17:44:00
USCIS Service CentersHow do you get a live person at a service center
There are only certain topics that will trigger an actual connection to a service center.

read this topic
scroll down to post #20 my response has a link to a PDF file of the things that can get you thru to a service center, and also the print out of that file is handy to keep when calling.

Otherwise you can call the 800 # and ask to speak to an immigration officer, they'll ask you a few Qs before they connect you. Be prepared to wait 60 minutes (usually)

USCIS Service CentersI'm confused. If CSC is so backlogged due to IMBRA . . .
Then why did Vermont transfer 22,000 I-130 petitions to CSC in July? Shouldn't it be the other way around? It was posted "Due to high workload surges" as the reason they forwarded them. Isn't VSC known for the quick turnaround?

I guess I don't understand why CSC would be given even MORE when they've got the IMBRA backlog issue.
