Canadaour RCMP police certificate is just a small orange paper
Not that I'm thinking bad thoughts, but it would be darn ez to reproduce this silly thing.
And BTW the hubby had his canadian cash bucks right out on the counter, ready to pay, expecting to pay - and she just said "there you go, 2 copies for you" and didn't charge us. Not that I am complaining, money is tight these days!! But shocking nonetheless.

Canadaour RCMP police certificate is just a small orange paper
I dunno why I am doubting!! We went to RCMP yesterday and the lady seemed puzzled that we weren't doing fingerprints, and I told her that is only if you have a record..... I was just wondering, we got a halfsheet of paper, it's orange, it looks like anyone could just run a copy of this, is it what we were supposed to get?
She also didn't charge us anything, not complaining on that, but it makes me even more doubtful we got the right thing.

please assure me!!

Evidently I'm a moron LOL I didn't know that there was a Forum Options on the right where you can choo se "outline" or "standard view" and I must have accidently changed it. Not a firefox thing, it's a WOOPS thing. Sorry for the waste of space post.

CanadaProblems accessing page 2 of Montreal Interview thread

Hey guys, this is weird. With the new way the threads are showing in "strings"
if I go to the Montreal waiting room, I can click on any of the posts on page 1
but if I select page 2, and click on the latest thread, it gives me an error.

Does this happen for any of you? The only way I could read today's posts was to hit reply and read backwards.

Ok, this problem only happens when I'm accessing VJ with Firefox now. IE doesn't do it. Weird.

Canadare: Joint Sponsor, need original birth certificate at interview?
I couldn't find this googling, whether Montreal expects the original birth certificate for a joint sponsor at interview. My brother (our J.Spnsr) is reluctant to send anything but a copy and he doesn't have a passport.... I don't blaim him, but was wondering if I need to get him to order a duplicate or whether a clear copy is acceptable at interview time.

Canadacanadian police certificate

The guy seemed to think that he had to have fingerprints. Has anyone out there gone to RCMP locations in Ontario and just gotten the certificate without prints? If so which detachment did you go to? One person already told me London. Also what should my husband be calling it---a records search as opposed to a police certificate? It is so frustrating when you all tell me that you got yours so easily and the RCMP is saying they can't do it there. What are we doing wrong?

Husband says "I need a Canada wide name check"
You don't need fingerprints unless you have a criminal record. The lady at London RCMP office said "sure you don't need fingerprints?" we said "not unless there is a criminal record, which he doesn't have"

Maybe try a different rcmp office. Sounds like they don't know wassup.

(we also did ours in London downtown RCMP, no problems, free, 10 minute wait)

Also of note, our local RCMP asked my husband for his passport. He didn't have it with him. *panic* She ended up willing to take his Dr License + social card.

CanadaCool new things you have found in the US

No problem. Any special place you recommend? :) I will diligently make sure I go there and eat one just for you! :D

well start in Huntington Beach at a place called Los Primos. The best damn black bean & rice burrito, it's huge and $3.11 with tax. Have it with the medium (tomatillo) salsa and of course CHEESE.

Then make your way to Long Beach and have a bean & cheese burrito, (ask for it toasted), at Hole Mole. Get a side of the extra hot salsa. OMGosh my mouth is watering!!

Then find your way to Chipotle. Get the chicken burrito, ask for a lil extra on the black beans, lots of the mild salsa, a drizzle of the hot. Cheese & sour cream and you're in heaven.

I have been all over London since I got here trying to find anything remotely like my 3 favorite burritos from home, and well, I will have to wait until I get home......

There is also roadtocanada.com

and

and a yahoo group

CanadaReceiving Visa

mine was done by mal, my sons 6 months later also by mail, just bring a pre paid priority envelope with you, make sure its the bg size because of the amount of stuff they send back with you, the visa in the passport isnt the only thing sent.

yeah, the instructions say the envelope has to be 12 x 15. Glad you explained because I couldn't figure out why it had to be so big for a little passport.

CanadaReceiving Visa

Hi all, again. Has anyone opted to receive their visa by mail? Are there any risks and is the only reason to do it to save on time from staying there. Thanks, again!

For example, some people do it when they're booked for a Friday interview (and wouldn't want to spend $ staying all weekend) or maybe they're locals and have to work the next day, etc. etc.
The risks involve relying on Canada Post. The info Montreal sends states they take no responsibility if CP were to lose it. They suggest to do Priority with signature required.

CanadaInterview, packet 4, and reflections on this journey

Ha! What I wouldn't give to be rolling around on a cheesy air mattress with the best lover of my life, whom I haven't seen since March!

I promise I'm not complaining about the company! If you've spent much time on one, let's just say I will be giving my chiropractor a lot of business when I get home.

CanadaInterview, packet 4, and reflections on this journey
Thanks you guys. I was so melancholy when I wrote that post. Most people get to the interview stage and do the happy  dance, and instead I had some sort of 10 month flashback... reviewing it all at once and thinking how ridiculous it all was, especially in the finance department! ... and also mad at myself that I had ever thought to leave my family at all.

I just wanted to be with my husband so bad and hearing that CIC was moving quick, etc. Husband gets the great job offer up here, it seemed like "signs", and then all the signs fell down almost immediately and arrows all pointed the other way!

Anyways, it is water under the bridge. Move ahead, start the countdown to 2007 and know that until the conditions removal, we'll be (kinda) done with immigration at least for a bit.

Canucks eat whale blubber... you always post the funniest stuff JG!
and I do hope we can look back and laugh at our first 6 mos, on this cheesy air mattress with no furniture, it can only get better.

CanadaInterview, packet 4, and reflections on this journey
Just sitting here reminiscing over our immigration mystery tour..... received our Packet 4 today and our interview is Nov 22. 4 full applications/petitions, including one to Canada, and we are (almost) finally settled. I don't even want to add up the $$ it'll make me ill (you can do the math (2) I-130s, (1) K3, (1) Canada PR, 2 medicals, etc).

I haven't posted too much on this subject, but I've been living out of 2 suitcases since my arrival July 1. All of my belongings, keepsakes, furniture, etc. are in storage. My family is in a serious crisis right now.... haven't wanted to post much because I'm a bit private about this, but it involves my niece's cancer. It was clear to me (quickly) that I should have never left home, and I never fully "moved" here. When we received notice back in what, July, that our original I130 got magically approved (even though we withdrew) I saw it as a sign. Spent 2 months trying to resurrect that app, and finally gave up and DCFd.

It's been nice to have spent time with my husband (finally), but also a bit stressful under the circumstances.... I figure if we could make it thru these last 5 mos, we can conquer anything.

Since our interview is the day before US Thanksgiving, we'll obviously not be getting visa until the following week. Going to stay in Montreal the next day and tour around since it's costing us $480 for train tickets....try and make that worth the while. Got us booked at Le Square Phillips today....

CanadaFBI fingerprint fee at Montreal? for cr-1?

Not sure, but there was no additional fingerprinting fee when I had my interview a couple of weeks ago. :)

I went back and read her review again, she did have some problems in the past with a charge that was dropped so I am going to assume that is why she had to do a little extra.

CanadaFBI fingerprint fee at Montreal? for cr-1?
I was just reading thru all the reviews of montreal interviews. VJ user Melliemel wrote that they had to pay an $85 FBI fingerprint fee at their interview. I just read thru all the info from Montreal and they don't mention this fee (??)

Is this only in certain circumstances?

Gosh, it's one thing for them not to know what to do, but quite another to be MEAN and make fun of you crying. Shame on them. Bullies trying to cover up that they didn't know what the heck they were doing.

Do we have a place here on VJ to post where NOT to cross? or crossing reviews?

ps, you are getting married on our 1 yr anniversary. Neato!

CanadaOne Way Ticket

He won't be driving across he will get a cab to the border, and then walk across, which is why I thought they might question him.

AH! I see. Hmmm, I never thought about walking over. Wonder how many people do that every day. ;)

CanadaOne Way Ticket

 What you've posted (red) sounds like it's a domestic trip inside US for him--why would the airticket even need to be shown to a (Canuck) border official AFTER its endpoint?
Also, even if shown to USCBP official, it has no meaning if he's the USC.

That's what I was thinking... if he's driving why would he even have to have a discussion about the flight part? but anyway, good luck!

CanadaNeed help in other thread!!!

Do I fax, courier, or what the DS-230? Thought Express Post would be the best option.

we sent the checklist and the DS via Canada Post Priority Courier, but we wanted it to get there fast. DON'T check "signature required" they won't get it if you do

Also, I've heard in the forums that one has to provide a copy of passport bio-page? Am I right?

you'll be providing passport at interview, no need to send copy

It also says that I-864 needs to be notarized... I thought this was no longer the case.... wisdom anyone????

That's because Montreal sends you the outdated I-864, when you DID have to notarize. I used the NEW one from USCIS because I didn't want to have to get it notarized. I have read someone went to interview with both, new and old, and the woman behind counter didn't seem to be too concerned and said "either or". So I am doing new.

sorry I don't know answer about the translation thing...........
