CanadaCanadian Birth Certificate Question
Since the "frame certificate" mentions having everything including the parents names, I would think that would be the same as a long form. BUT if you look at the "dimensions" of the Certified copy in that description, they are technically "longer" - ie long form

Maybe somebody else knows more about Saskatchewan certs.

AHA!! If you click the PDF link for the actual application, they have a checkbox that says

I really don't want to get barred

My husband was here for 9 months (in a row) we put it right on the bio forms and it was not even mentioned in our interview in Montreal.

"Canadians who lawfully enter the U.S., but who were not given I-94's, are treated like status violators if they overstay or fail to maintain status. They do not accumulate unlawful presence, and the 3 and the 10-year bars do not apply, where neither the USCIS nor an Immigration Judge has made a determination that the person has violated status."

There isn't enough room to name all the movies I've cried at! I used to see Hallmark commercials and bawl my eyes out. I cry when there is a heartwarming ending, I cry when there is sadness. When I think of which movies I've cried at MOST,

This is me too.

When we went to see Into the Wild I had to wait until the entire theater emptied because I was on the verge of a REALLY loud bawl. I ended up with a headache from holding it in.

We're about to pop Away From Her into the dvd... the trailer made me bawl so I'm in trouble. crying.gif

We researched moving to Canada before we researched moving to the States, so I know we'd have to be married first before he can come here, but he can live with me while we wait for his PR....which could take a LONG time, hence the need for me to have a good job because he can't work.

I've read of the people who have turned around and forgotten Canadian immigration, that sucks...just tells me it's probably more frustrating than moving to the U.S.

I'm only chiming in on the part I know about - please see my signature timeline!! If you do in fact decide to go with your promotion and he comes to Canada, PLEASE consider getting married and him applying while in NJ. It took us 90 days from start to finish out of Buffalo (I moved to Canada) and I was actually able to come over the border at 60 days and wait for my card (using my mom's california address as perm).

Only saying this so you will not consider the "inside Canada" route. I would not recommend that to anyone. I spent loads of time on US to Canada boards and the people who came in and waited were put last, and very, very frustrated.

I can totally relate to the confusion and changing of plans, etc. {{{ hug }}} We actually went thru immigration 3 times! CAN2US, US2CAN, CAN2US again.
(and I think we're still confused!)

CanadaMarrying a Canadian in Canada
Ah, it would have been lovely if we had been able to get married in Canada and then come back together, but instead I flew home to US from my honeymoon alone.

I am posting to tell you DO NOT try and get married there and have her try to come back to US. After my husband and I decided to bail on our US visa and me move to Canada, my husband came down to help me pack/move back to Canada. He had with him leases, letters from his employer, copies of my moving contract, a whole SLEW of stuff showing he would be only coming here for a few days to help me come back to Canada and he was taking off the airport shuttle bus at the border and held for quite a long while to determine if they were going to allow him to do this. It was a scary nervous time for him. Just my 2c.

CanadaFor any of you who have gotten citizenship
Maybe someone can help me to understand this. My DH and I are discussing the whole citizenship thing. I found this information on a site about dual citizenship:

Newly naturalized citizens in some (but not all) countries are required to renounce their previous citizenship(s); the US has such a requirement, for example, but Canada does not. And in some (but, again, not all) cases, a country will automatically revoke the citizenship of one of its citizens who acquires another country's citizenship by naturalization, even if no explicit renunciation was involved.

We are interested in going for the citizenship because it would remove my brother from the whole sponsorship thing (and we kind of told him that we would do that asap to relieve him of that obligation). But my Canadian is not interested in denouncing Canada! Will they actually have him say he is doing so? and what does that mean exactly? He is no longer Canadian?

Sorry if these seem like really dumb questions, but we are not that excited of the prospect of him not being a Canadian... and we had always thought (until I read that above) that he would have dual citizenship.

help me to understand this, thanks.

CanadaBest Interview Advice for Montreal
My lil piece of advice... once you get to the seated waiting room DO NOT walk around. I remember that a woman wanted to look out the window at the beautiful Montreal view, and got up and walked over to the window. A voice came down the loud speaker that sounded like God, and said "please return to your seat". A short time after, she decided to try another window blink.gif and the voice got meaner. This is when we realized there were cameras and someone watching us from somewhere else. The 2nd time she went to the window she turned around after the voice of God came down and there was a security person to escort her.

I guess that the key will be in the immigration officer at the Canadian border then. I guess the most that can happen is that you get in another inspection...that is another line and another officer will ask you other questions and probably let you go.

I am the USC, and I traveled back and forth from US to Canada via flying to Detroit and driving over thru Windsor to see my husband.

I have to say I never had ANY problems going into Canada, all my issues were when I was coming back to my homeland. Passport in hand, driving a US rental car, I was questioned more and had more uncomfortable situations coming back to US.

When I drove to Canada to move there, didn't even have my Cdn Residency complete, car full of stuff (even my cat) and they were very polite and let me right thru. Didn't even look at the Cat's papers...

On the bank statements, for some odd reason - even though I added him to the account and it was "joint" they didn't add him to the statement. They did send a few correspondence to us though that had both our names so I used that and also copied our checking account with both names.

I didn't add him to the credit accounts until he had established some credit so again, I have stuff from the 2nd year on those but not the first. I guess if I get an RFE I'll have to ask the bank to put something in writing saying he was joint as of blah blah date.

This is my table of contents:

• I-751 Application
• Copy of PR Card
• Lease (2006, 2007)
? Letter from Landlord

Financial Information
• Bank Information
? Letter of Explanation
? Union Bank & Wescom
? Copy of Check from Mutual Account
• Tax Information
? Tax Transcripts (2005, 2006, 2007)
? Stimulus Check Mailer

• Joint Credit Accounts
• Life Insurance and Investment Beneficiary
? Health Insurance Statements & Correspondence
• Joint Utility Bills
• Auto Purchase
? Bill of Sale Ford Taurus & Nissan Frontier
? Mutual Insurance Card

When I received the mailed notice from the California DMV that I needed to provide them with evidence of my continuing legal presence in the USA, I mailed back a copy of the front and back of the letter, as well as a copy of the front and back of my expiring green card, and a cover letter explaining that the two together proves my legal residence for another year.

Nothing doing. I didn't hear anything back from them.

I'm in California too, when we got the letter from the DMV we misplaced the envelope. I called the DMV and asked what address to send the USCIS extension letter and was put on a hold for a while. The woman came back and gave me a SPECIFIC department PO Box (I even googled this and could not find the address prior to the call). She said if it was mailed to anywhere else, it would not get approved. Seems there is a small office somewhere who expect and accept that letter and know what to look for.

BTW, for anyone in Cali; We mailed to that department late October, the DL expired 11/26 and my husband got his new drivers license last night. He's been driving expired for 3 weeks.
