Alimony is when one spouse gives money to another upon a divorce and that typically ends when the receiving person gets married again. A pension is money paid to a person, typically from the company he/she worked for, as retirement money, and typically lasts for their lifetime. It can only be given to the person who worked for that company.It cannot be transferred. Social Security or SS is government money and is given only to the individual who worked here, and is based upon age, prior years of employment and is only given to the person who retires. It cannot be transferred. It sounds like, and I could be wrong, that this person is receiving alimony and this was the arrangement from the divorce and will last for 6 more years, then it will end. It may take another 7-8 years for him to come over. Now we are totally stressed Can you make some copies ( everything) from the old passport and then renew it? Go to the interview with the new one and simply explain that is was due to expire and you had no choice? Seems to me a valid passport is a valid passport. That is a courtesy and nothing more. The more petitioners whine and cry about their petitions for a lifetime commitment taking "too long" (a time frame they would gladly wait to rent a reception hall in most localities) the more the USCIS has to work to reduce being tied up on stupid errors. If the consulate sends it back it means that someone at USCIS has to review AGAIN an invalid petition that should never have been sent to begin with and legitimate petitioners already waited in line behind once. USCIS has taken to simply issuing denials when there is "no clear petitionable benefit" In other words, if your petition is lacking TOO much, they just deny rather than send an RFE for multiple items. I say "Good on them". Why should we all be waiting in line for people filing petitions that are not eligible, being so ignorant as to file only an I-129f and nothing else (read the instructions! That's why they have a form AND instructions!) It mens we are waiting in line behnd people that should not even be IN the line. This is the direct result of petitioners demanding faster service. Then medicals, transportation, flights,and the list goes on. It will thousands before you are done so the $340 is NOT a large number in the entire process. I second this. Too often we hear about some stupid something coming up that screws up a couple's plans. It is always advisable not to make permanent plans until the visa has been issued.
