They are only guides and many people can get approved earlier and many more a lot later. Case in point. I filed my wife's AOS in June 2010. She was given her green card in May 2011. Almost one year. No paperwork problems just "things" like a storm closing the office and having a reschedule 2 months later, a hiccup in biometrics getting lost in a computer. Stuff happens. With all this planning and scheduling going on the last thing you need is having to worry if you can pull it off to begin with due to unknown processing times. Like others have said. We were in Warsaw, they want it notarized despite what USCIS instructions say. Cost nothing to do it and if done ahead of time, no delays. Nothing worst that finding at the interview and petitioner is not there to sign and notarize at the Embassy. Interesting. We were in the Warsaw embassy also but they did not need notarization. K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures	ESL Classes	Any visa is simply the approval of a government that allows you to enter that country legally. I k-1 is a visa that allows you to enter the US for the purpose of marriage. A K-1 visa is issued by an embassy and is valid for 6 months ( believe this is correct). You then have this time to come to the US. After you enter the US the visa is expired as it is only a one time entry visa. You are then given an " I-94" which is placed in your passport. This allows you to stay for the 90 day period. You then these 90 days to get married or you must leave. After you are married you apply for your AOS. Between marriage and AOS you are considered "out of status". This status is completely normal and don't fret about the name. You are now legally here as you did marry. But you are not considered a permanent resident until you adjust this status, and get your green card. It is up to you to PROVE they are wrong. Sometimes all the papers in the world mean nothing. When my wife went to Warsaw, alone, for her interview the woman said to her " do you know your fiancée is still living with his ex-wife in her home..we have proof". Wow. My wife looked her right in the face and said " you are wrong. He lives alone at this address. I do not believe you. You cannot show me proof because you do not have any". And she was very confident in her answer. That was enough for the woman. She got her visa. One of the problems with these interviews is that the fiancée is intimidated.And nervous. It can be difficult. Most USC who accompany their fiancée ( usually they must wait outside) will not take no for an answer if there is a problem and maybe even argue a bit because it is THEIR government and they have the right to question the CO's. Regardless of have long you have been in communication it is VERY different in person. That is why the USCIS mandates an in person relationship. Please do not do anything foolish. Meet in person someplace. There is an old expression " you really don't know someone until the shoes are on the floor". If this person lived 10 miles from your home would you still do the same thing? The K2 was one year to get his visa from the date his mother got hers.He usually will have to go for an interview as well. As the poster above said, you need to contact the consulate and let them know you want to get an interview appointment. When he has his visa, he comes over and you start his AOS application. His process may take a bit less time, but don't count on it. But when I brought her home from Moscow, she was still a small puppy.I flew Delta and on that flight they allowed me to take the dog with me in the plane. It only cost a few hundred dollars. She was in a flexible carrier that fit under the seat. Of course she was in my lap for most of the ride. And many passengers wanted to pet her so she went around the plane for a few hours even though the attendants did not really like it!. when I got to JFK, I showed them all my papers, which were in Russian and they could not understand then, so they just told me to make sure she gets all her shots and let me go. You will however, then have to go trough the AOS after she turned 21 and that WILL be another issue. Since your chances of her getting a valid issue at this point is..well... short of impossible, I would look into other avenues. My wife's son made it here only a few weeks before he turned 21, filed before 21, had his AOS interview 6 months after turning 21 and we are now sweating whether he will be issued his green card or face expensive and lengthy court procedures. You do not need to show "plans". The basic letter should be: Date I ( your name) plan to marry ( her name)within 90 days of her (my) arrival in the United States in accordance with the K1 visa process. This is all I see every day and then we see where the sad stories start coming in and the relationship[p does not work out. I am sorry but I am old school and large age differences rarely work especially different cultures included. I agree completely with both Jim and Barbara. Personally I could never marry a girl who is the same age as my daughter. As many people who might say that 20-25-30 years, and more, age differences are ok as long as you are on the same page/true love, very very few of these relationships work out for any length of time. Even if the Filipino culture does not care so much for age differences, once that young girl gets here and realizes she can get someone a lot younger than her husband, who will still be alive when her kids are still around, with the same or better finances..bye bye. One of the problems you will be facing is if they say they haven't received it yet or the reply was not sent out yet, your stress level will sky rocket. Our application with the I-129f was sent to california service center since that tme my fiance was in California. Right now he is in texas but its not for a long time and we will move again to a different state. NAture of his job makes him/ us move from place to place. So my concern now is, since our application was at Califonia service center and his address in our application is his California address do we have to get married in California? 3. We have plans to get married in Texas since that is where he is at now, will this affect with the AOS? 4. I also heard from my fiance, that he read from one website that there is a seminar to be attended prior to getting married and it takes hours to do that. Are we really required to do that? 5. As to the AOS, when is the best time to be able to adjust status? And with regards to SSN, how early can we get an SSN #? No. It is something you apply for at any time after you arrive.But wait a week or so for your paperwork to get into the system. 2. You can get married any place you please..in the US. 3. No. But you need to make sure the USC always has your current address 4. These seminars are not required here, but it seems that you need to do it before you come as that is your country's requirement. 5. You file for AOS after you are married.
