Did anybody that has traveled to pakistan get any vacinations before going? If so, what were they? I am going to swat in October and my fiance said there is not any mosquitoes around that time so dont worry about malaria. I just want to double check.

just some information if you don't want to take malaria pills----- take vitamin b complex. start taking this 2 weeks before you go and through your time until a week or so after. misquitos do not like the smell of your skin when you are taking this. i did this when i went to malaysia and never saw a misquito the whole time i was there.

Hi All,
Thanks again mary for the information. I greatly appreciate it as I am sure most of us are overwhelmed with this process and the possiblity of being denied.

What are the looking for when they ask me about my religion? I am not Muslim, but I know that the Qu'ran states that a Muslim can marry a Christian.

I have a few more questions that maybe someone has some answers to. I heard that you can file for a K1 and while it is being processed, get married and change to a k3. How does this affect the amount of time it takes to get an interview? Does changing in the middle affect the process? I am looking for the quickest but the smartest way to be with Faisal.

Also, I read that someone was asked in the interview if members from both families were present. Does this affect your iligebility? My father is disabled and it is very hard for him to travel. I may not have anyone from my family be present at a wedding in Pakistan.

To all of you out there, I wish you the best of luck and hope you will soon be reunited with your loved ones.

Please, anyone with some advice or experience on my issue please help!

Faisal and I were introduced by a friend over the Internet. We spent several months talking before we decided to meet in person. I have heard stories of individuals meeting on the internet and trying to file k1/k3 and being denied. I am in the process of filling out the paperwork for us, but I am not sure how to word the section about how we met. Should I say a friend introduced us? Should I mention the internet? Should i not? I heard of a case where a couple met on the internet and they were denied a k3. It took them 3 years to figure it out.

I know that we have our work cut out for us. Being that I am a white American, I know the government will not see the natural connection between Faisal and I.

Please, anyone with suggestions!

Middle East and North AfricaGetting ready for Ramadan...
Hi all-
I have a few questions. I work in an office that is all Muslim but me. What is the best way to handle Ramadan? I mean, i still plan on eating or i'll be a b**** on wheels. Of course i am not going to eat around them, but is this considered rude if i still eat, just not around them?

Also, my fiance is muslim and i want to support him during Ramadan. We're just starting our visa process, but eventually we'll be together. anyone out there that has a muslim spouse but don't parcipate in ramadan themselves? i was just trying to figure out the best way to go about it. again, i don't want poor faisal to get the brunt of my "i gotta eat and your in my way" fasting self.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDoin it myself
QUOTE (Angelus @ Nov 22 2008, 09:53 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I notice that a lot of people here filed their own paperwork. After consulting two lawfirms and getting two different views of the pluses and minuses or working with them. I am about ready to try it myself. Are the I 129f and the I 134 the only documents I file initially? :innocent:Can someone give a quick rundown of their experience doing the paperwork themselves

hi angelus,
all the best to you, as this can be a very long and stressful journey. if you are thinking of filing a i129f, you will need to fill out that form and provide all supporting documents such as: your birth certificate, proof of meeting in person in last 2 years, proof of relationship, intent to marry for both you and your fiance, and g325 a for both you and your fiance. both of these forms are pretty straight forward and there are samples filled out here in the example forms. once this is processed, you will receive notice and it will be forwarded to the embassy of your fiance. then, notice will be sent to your fiance specifying which documents need to be sent directly to the embassy. at that time, you fill out the i 134, birth certificate of fiance, police records, continual supporting evidence of relationship, etc.

i know this whole process sounds way overwhelming, but unless you have some very unique circumstance (fiance has police record or something like that) then i do not see why you need a lawyer. i did all the paperwork myself, with the guidance of a friend and this website, and my fiance was issued his visa last monday, nov 17. the biggest advice i can give you is this: STAY ORGANIZED AND KEEP ANYTHING YOU CAN USE FOR EVIDENCE. you will never know what the embassy may ask for, so it's best to keep everything-- phone bills, chat logs, letters, emails, plane boarding passes, etc etc.

if you have any questions, feel free to pm me. i hope this helps you out. this website is a great resource and there are a lot of helpful people here.

best of luck on your journey. keep your chin up when it gets hard. we're all here for you.

Canadais there another method of obtaining the waybill?
UPDATE:

Called the visa hotline today and they said they have no waybill information for me.
They said they will do a follow up. They told me that I should expect a call from their supervisor within 1-2 weeks from now.
OMG!!! I am so mad and disappointed. Is there anyway I can speed this whole thing up? The only way for me to contact Montreal is through email (which sucks!).

please please help me~!

Canadais there another method of obtaining the waybill?

I am seeing today that the visa website is finally showing "Applicant Status" (which shows "Picked up") and "DHL Waybill Number". Kinda "who cares?" info at this point. :bonk:

I thought I would mention . . . once the shipment was in progress, I was able to use the visa website's "Reference ID" on the dhl.ca website . . . using it there in the "Reference Number" box as opposed to the "Waybills Number" . . . and I could see the DHL status of the shipment.

Really sorry that this is running right down to the wire for you.

Aww man, then that means that mine hasn't been shipped out. *shake my head*
I got wednesday and thursday morning next week to bug them about it. If not then my boys will be going without me. SIGH I really hope I could make it. :(

Anyways, thanks so much you guys! All of you have been really helpful and positive but I guess mine's just taking F O R E V E R!

Merry Christmas y'all! I'll update you again next wednesday. Wish me luck!

Canadais there another method of obtaining the waybill?

Here's my story FWIW . . .

Interviewed and approved for CR1 in Dec 17.
Trying to track my passport/visa return on www.usvisa-info.com but no updated info there.

Tried calling DHL on the 21st but without a DHL waybill number the operator couldn't seem to help me.

Called the Calgary number on the "Welcome to the USA" letter yesterday (22nd) to see if they had any info . . . they had nothing and said to be patient.

Early this morning (23rd) I called DOS and they were able to tell me that the visa had been issued and printed.
Then called the Calgary number from the "Welcome to the USA" letter again and this time they were able to give me the DHL waybill number (starts with an "S")
With that I could now go to www.dhl.ca and track the shipment . . . early this morning it showed the package had passed through Dorval the previous evening.
Around 11:30 am I got a call form DHL here in Calgary letting me know my passport was ready to be picked up. (At that time the DHL website didn't show that the package was in Calgary yet . . . still the same info as earlier). Went and got my passport.
The www.usvisa-info.com site still doesn't show any kind of update info . . . so I wouldn't count on it for anything.

Ah. I've been calling the same hotline as you and they said there isn't any update yet and that I should check back again later. ARGH! The only thing I could do today is to keep checking the DHL website since DOS and that number that I've been calling are closed as well as the embassy. But i doubt it will come today. They probably haven't mailed it yet. Their next business day is on the 29th, a day before we're supposed to leave. :crying:

Oh that's too bad  Well I hope it comes tomorrow and as Devon said call DHL and hope you get a helpful person tomorrow! Sending some positive vibes to DHL for you :energy:

Aww... I hope so. My boyfriend booked us a flight on the 30th. This whole thing is nerve-wrecking! So, when I call DHL I should give them my reference numbers right?
stasis_dc5MaleCanada2010-12-23 18:23:00
Canadais there another method of obtaining the waybill?

I picked up at the markham location.... Nice guy there although he can be hard to understand and he WILL call you the moment they get it in or at least he did when ours came in (maybe I was special...no wait I know I am special...In the head lol.)
Mine took 2 business days from interview to being at that dhl location. He did however tell me my sons was there and not mine, then called back 10 minutes later to tell me mine was there (but didn't realize who I was, that was funny in itself). He looked for mine using my last name not any number although he did give me the number to pick it up with.

Call them back and tell them you want some answers and you want them now

GRRR!!! They (647.955.3736) keep telling me to call back again. They told me that what I see at the dhl website using my reference ID is the same as what they see. Sigh... The embassy's closed tomorrow too. I'm hoping they'll mail it today since DHL is open tomorrow.

Funny you should pop in Jaden :D.......Didn't you have a phone number that you called to obtain the "S' number? I tried to find your post on this to help out but was unlucky..........

Was wondering if you could help out .....

I kinda have a slight idea why it's delayed. When I did all my profile and processing, I used my Philippine passport. But when I got to my interview, the lady there saw my canadian passport which I barely got and took that instead of my philippine passport. She said it wouldn't take long because all they have to do was update their system. I have called visa hotline and have been telling them my situation but barely just now that someone did something. The person I talked to on the phone made me a new account on their website using my canadian passport number. so now, i got two profiles and two reference ids that i will use to check DHL. Although my visa was issued last Friday, December 17, could it be that they couldn't find my profile because the one I registered was my Philippine passport? But if the case number is the same then there shouldn't be a problem right?

What number did you call for the " visa hotline " ? Maybe after you tell us that we can be of some help :thumbs:I'm sure you'll see it soon with Christmas it may be a bit slower but still  What city are you picking it up in?

I called this number: Toronto 647-955 3736. I am registered at the DHL markham location.

Canadais there another method of obtaining the waybill?
i've searched through 12 pages of this forum and have not found anything other than the following:

get your reference# from the visa website

and

go to dhl.ca and input it under track using reference#

so far it shows no record.

the only other method we've tried was to call the visa hotline.

we were told that what they see is pretty much what we see.

which is that dhl has no record of our reference#

we even called dhl and they said that they can't do anything without the waybill.

so, are there other methods of obtaining the waybill that we haven't tried?

Note:

-interview was on Dec. 13th (montreal)
-called visa hotline on dec. 17th and was told that the visa was issued/printed

for those who were told something similar, how long did it take before dhl received the package?

considering that the interview was on Dec. 13th we assumed that we would be able to spend x-mas together along with our recently born (3 month old) son. now we are afraid that we wont be able to at least spend new years together.

any info or experiences will be much appreciated.

CanadaMontreal didn't give me a waybill number

well i just used the reference number on the canada.usvisa page and it finally showed up in DHL and says it is at the dhl facility which rocks!! so i suggest keep trying to use the reference number to track it at dhl.ca.

LUCKY!!!! To think that I had my interview first. Which DHL are you picking it up? At Markham?

I've been calling the CSC hotline. I called DHL once but they said they have no record of my reference number. Sigh... well i did what inky said and used the reference number on the canada.usvisa page but DHL said there was no record on the website. our visa was approved on the 14th which was 6 business days ago. when i called DHL they said they need some tracking number that started with S or something.

Ahhh! Exactly like what we're experiencing right now. I called CSC and they said we have to wait for 2 weeks before they can make calls and do a follow up. I keep checking DHL--- but they still don't have any record of my visa.

hello...well we got approved but the consulate didn't give us any way of tracking the status of the visa and if it has been shipped through DHL. how do we know when the visa is ready for pick up?

Oh Gosh! We're in the same boat! When was your interview? Mine was last monday, december 13th. I called DOS and they said that my visa was printed/issued last friday but until now, I still haven't heard from DHL. I kept calling CSC for my waybill and they keep telling me to call them at a later time of the day. UGH!!! This is really frustrating! I was really hoping I'd be celebrating Christmas with my boy. :(

as for my fiancee and i...

boo! >:(

can you believe it guys!? we filed in freakin' march and didn't get the appointment letter 'til september!!!

geez, montreal was so back logged!!! we originally thought that she'd be here by july/august, but obviously

that didn't work out. she was pregnant at the time and gave birth on september 9 to our first baby. it's a boy!!!

i filed a consular report of birth abroad and my fiancee recently received the baby's passport!

now, were are just waiting until december 13 and hopefully, she and our son will be here for christmas!!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsMarch 2010 - K1 CSC Filers
seems like a lot of stuff has happened over the past month. congrats on the visa approval j!

as for my fiancee and i, she just recieved her packet 3 yesterday.... curse you montreal embassy and your slow processing!

anyway, i have a few questions that i would like to ask to help my fiancee out with what needs to be done.

with regards to packet 3, i am assuming that the items on the checklist that is provided are to be obtained but not all will be sent, correct?

now, which of these items can be a copies and which must be originals?

also, the packet requests a police clearance from her place of residence for the last 16 years if i am not mistaken.

well, she has only been living in canada for the last 3 years. will she need an additional one from her home country?

thanks in advance.

sup guys.

this past weekend i got a letter from the nvc dated on the 12th that they have received my petition and will be forwarding it to my fiancee's local consulate.

however, when i tried to double check by calling the automated service, it said that they have no records of it.

any of you have a clue why they are saying that?

with the initial submission of a I-129F there is no interviews to be done in this phase, they would be part of other types of submissions. So we all skipped right to "post decision activity". Don't worry the interview will still take place, it just means the CSC is done with us.

i see. just curious is all.

just recieved an email notification and text message about our application being approved yesterday, may 4, 2010.

however when i checked the uscis website for my case status it went from "initial review" all the way to the 2nd to last step which was the "post-decision activity".

now, my question is... how come it skipped "testing and interview"? of course "rfe" and "decision" was skipped for obvious reasons.

should i assume that there will not be an interview?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNew here and has a few questions
first of all, i would just like to say that i am lucky to have found this site/forum, and would like to thank all of those who contribute to it. thank you very much!!!

now, i have a few questions...

1. since applying for a k-1 visa is my original plan, i decided to make this thread here. however, i am still not sure which route to go. any advice on that?

2. my girl has a US tourist visa which doesn't expire anytime soon and is a multiple entry. does this matter at all when applying?

3. i would also like to mention that she will get her canadian citizenship soon. depending on when i turn in the paperwork/the time it takes to process it, she may or may not have her citizenship already.

hmm... i think that's pretty much it. thank you everyone, and i'm glad to be part of this forum now.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHelp with Consular Report of Birth Abroad
i'm looking for anyone who has knowledge or experience with this topic. i need helpful info and tips when it comes to filing.

i also want a flowchart of the process if available. this is the most important part because my girl just got "packet 3" and we don't think she will arrive here in time to give birth.

what exactly is given to let the baby enter the u.s.? my girl wants dual citizenship for the baby. you think she can file for it at the same time?

anyway, thanks for everything. i've tried to search through threads/posts but i just got tired of looking and not finding the info i needed or don't already know.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionDivorce before ROC issues.

Is this something that happens often? Should I be worried?

Hi! Im in the same boat here (filing while divorce pending). I have a lawyer. And she told me exactly the same thing as Vanessa&Tony stated. She said that divorce is something that happens a lot nowadays. And USCIS and Immigration Judge understand that. You will not be removed and will keep the right to work. The Judge will just give an extension till you have divorce decree in hand. I don't think you should be worried. (F)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresTracking Recently Approved I130 Petitions
My I-130 was approved on March 8th but my I-129F is still pending over at CSC. I called the NVC on Wednesday and they have my I-130 with a case number assigned to it already. So I guess they are sending over the I-130's in favor of holding them. I was unaware of form I-824 at the time of filing.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIR-1 finished.....or go with K-3 now at embassy??

Ok, my wife and I have completed all the documents for the IR-1 visa. Its at the NVC in Portsmouth, NH waiting for approval. Its been there about 1 week.

My wife informs me today that she has received the K-3 packet from Manila embassy. She already has an appointment set for her medical Aug 29 and the interview on Sept 5.

1. If we elect to use the K-3.........will I have to submit the new prices for the Adjustment of Status? It totals over 1000 dollars now.

2. OR should we go thru the K-3 process.....then the IR-1 process....just to get the IR-1 visa. This will save me from paying the Adjustment of Status fee of 1000 dollars.

I would like to have the IR-1 visa (to save on extra fees) but the K-3 is in the way.......What would VJ do?

I need some opinions on the best choice of action?????
:help:

Since she already have the packet for the K-3. Let her proceed with the medical and interview. If she passed, since she will be given 6 months leeway to go to the US, she can wait for the IR appointment. But since her inteview is on Spetmber 5 and hopefully by then, IR is already completed and forwarded to USEM, she can tell the CO during her interview about her IR-visa case. If they check and she also have a schedule for that, she maybe asked to come back for that schedule instead (there are some cases like that at USEM). If not, then all she have to do after receiving the K-3 visa is to wait for the IR-visa schedule -> go to the interview for the IR and give them her passport and they will change the K-3 to IR-1 visa. She don't have to get another medical for the IR since the medical is good for a year.

It would be better to wait for the IR. She will not have to adjust status when she get here in the US (fee is $1010 now). With IR, she only have to wait for her SSN and 10-year GC. Good lucj to both of you and God Bless!

Whoa! I like this idea!! I was thinking sort of the same since I read here on VJ someone interviewed for both visas and ended up with the IR-1. I did not know they could change a K-3 into a IR-1. So get the visa from a K-3 then interview a few months later for the IR-1. Once they see her K-3 visa they can/will change it into a IR-1?? This is good news!!

Yeah that's what I thought. All we needed was 2 weeks more....we would of made it before the price increase. Now, we have to wait for the I-130 to reach the embassy. That's ok since we want the I-130 anyway.

How should we tell Manila Embassy that we don't want the K-3 now? Postpone for the maximum amount and hope the I-130 catches up? I don't want to ruin our chances with the I-130 by canceling or not showing up for the K-3 process.

US Citizenship General DiscussionDual Peruvian and US citizenship?
While I have seen many people on these forums who seem to be dual US / Canadian or US / Great Britain, I was wondering if anyone has recent experience wherein they have been able to obtain US Citizenship and still retain their Peruvian citizenship. I ask this question on behalf of my wife.

Thanks in advance.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresVisiting USA on B1/B2 while currently doing I-130 CR-1 / IR-1
Hi, I'm Ryan's wife and I wanted to thank you all for the information it was very valuable. To keep on track with this I wanted to share my experience:

I went to the U.S. (MIA) and it was completely easy, actually the officer took only couple minutes with me while he was taking more with others. He only asked me if I was traveling alone(I said the truth that I was meeting friends from high school), what I do in my country for a living, and what I plan to do. I think it helped I went there before, and that I arrange a Hotel and the amount of money I brought. In conclusion they didn't even ask me my marital status. So I recommend few things: First be very relaxed(I think there are officers around looking attitude), then talk only the necessary, bring enough money lets say 2000$, arrange a hotel, as a plus I brought papers that tie me to my country(I didn't even had to show them), like my bank account ticket, the contracts I have for my religious wedding in June, a work letter, and a letter from your partner promising support and ensuring that you are going back to your country.

As I said it was a big decision, I took the challenge and it was so easy. So just do it, with enough resources as the ones I listed before, of course there is a big risk cause it depends on the officer, but if you look tranquil, you have gone there before, arrange a hotel, have a profession and bring enough money I think that helps a lot.
I wish you the best if you are in a similar situation. Is worth to take the risk.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresVisiting USA on B1/B2 while currently doing I-130 CR-1 / IR-1
My wife and I just received NOA1 and are undergoing the I-130 process for IR-1 visa. She currently has a B2 visa and wishes to visit next month to attend a wedding. Can she visit me on her tourist visa and what are the risks of this? Is her B2 cancelled after we start the IR-1 process? Thanks in advance.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresSep 08 NOA1, then nothing?
I sent in I-130 Aug 20, 08 and am still waiting for NOA2.

We are going I-30 route. I called USCIS but just receive the below via automated voice message. I'll try calling tomorrow to talk to an actual person? Seems like a long time waiting....my patience has worn out? I sent in a full I-130 with two affadavit of bona fide marriage and some bank transfers to show comingling of financial resources. I'm wondering if my package was insufficient in some way? Any thoughts appreciated from this forum.
