US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionWho's bought a plane ticket before visa received?
Hmmmm right, this is tough... I'm planning on booking it for 10 days after the interview... Oh I don't know what to do!!

My main concern right now is that a doctor who did some minor surgery for me a few years ago was meant to fax through a letter to Knightsbridge and I've just found out that he hasn't yet... he better get his act together or the medical results won't be there when I have my interview!! Aaaahh!!

helloo,

Just wondering how many of you have made real travel arrangements before you've actually got the visa in hand? I'm going to wait until I get home after my interview (just in case...) but will be booking it before I actualy get the visa. Has anyone every heard of one getting lost?? I'm almost tempted to buy a ticket now, those cheap flights had better still be there next monday...

You do not need to send it! I didn't and I have my interview on monday, so pretty sure the 'male only' thing is correct. I think this is just a london thing, so ignore everyone else that says you have to fill it out.

Good luck!

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionmedical results
I'm having a panic... I had my medical on the 29th Sep, plenty of time for the results to be sent to the embassy, but I had to have some immunisations, and a letter had to be sent to Knightsbridge from a surgeon of mine. Soooo there wasn't THAT much time between when they would have got all those extra bits and my interview date...

What happens if they haven't got the medical results at the time of my interview? I'm hoping that they have got them by now, but I can't ring to find out today because it's a sunday... It's so annoying, I told the people at the medical place that it would probably be a while before I had the interview, and then I got the date a few days later!

Worse case scenario would be they don't send my passport back with the visa until they get the medical resutls, right? I wouldn't have to go back there would I??? :crying:

I am stressing loads, I can't believe I'm so worried about this, before when i saw posts about people being worried I honestly thought 'you've pretty much done the hard work already, it's just a formality, stop worrying' , but now I am very sorry that I ever thought that, cos I'm a mess right now!!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionInterview tomorrow!
Hello everyone,

Just panicking slightly at the thought of my interview tomorrow, I've got everything ready in nice neat little plastic wallets, I just hope I haven't forgotten anything important!

How common is it that they RFE you for somehting at the interview? I mean, I have everything i THINK I need, but I know what they can be like and they might ask me for something else... And what's this FBI name check rubbish?

I need my interview letter, I have that ready, would be very annoying to forget that. I have all our evidence of relationship (photos, phone bills from both of us, plane ticket stubs, engagement ring documents, actual engagement ring!). Got my passport, birth certificate, police certificate. Got my payment slip, got photos. Got I134 plus evidence. Think that's it. Oh and letters of intent, even though I'm not really sure we need that anyway...

That's my panic over, feel better for writing it down... Any last words of wisdom you would like to share???

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionWhoohooo! Approved!

:D Congratulations :D

I was checking all day yesterday as I've followed your case from when I very first filed as you were just a short time ahead of me. I even felt nervous for you yesterday!!

Great news, glad to hear they didn't grill you either. Just a very quick question. What did they allow you to take in with you to the Embassy?

I wondered if you can take a handbag with all the normal girl stuff in or if you are only allowed a wallet and your paperwork?

So pleased for you

They let me take a small bag in with me, just like a magazine sized one, which had mainly rubbish in it... They didn't let me take in my camera (I don't even know why it was in there), but apart from that they just x-rayed my bag and let me take it all in (including a lighter). I gave my camera to the man who sits on the desk.

You can't take any cosmetics in! They make you put them in a little plastic bag before you go in which you hand to the man at the desk.

Good luck with the rest of your process! Hopefully see you in AOS soon :)

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionWhoohooo! Approved!
Yayyy!! It was all ok and I got approved... After all that panicking!! It really was quite straightforward, got there at 9, queued outside for 45mins (glad it wasn't raining!), then got let in to a pretty unimpressive room!!

Was called to a desk after about 15 minutes, they took my documents. They were hardly bothered at all about all the affidavit evidence, just took one letter from Ed's employer. Had to do some fingerprints, and that was pretty much it for that bit. Then they gave me a pink letter which I filled out ready for the courier, and waited for my second stint at one of the windows.

This time an american lady saw me, who was doing the actual 'interview'. I found her to be a bit unfriendly, but not rude or anything. She was probably just bored of doing visa interviews... Anyway, she asked these questions, after verifying my fingerprints that I had just given! Like I could get someone else to pretend to be me in those 20 minutes!!

-Where did you meet
-What does he do now
-what did you do at university (where we met)
-Have you visited each other

That was it! She also asked to see some photos. Then she said 'that all seems to be in order, you can go and arrange for a courier to bring your passport and visa to you now'

Phew! Easy!

If anyone has any questions (specifically about London or otherwise) feel free to ask! Or PM if you like!

Maria

Good luck to munchkins and CapeG!! And anyone else with interviews this week...

I found that getting the visa was no problem when it came to my hubby's income (they took one crappy copy of a year contract of his), but when it came to adjusting status, they really looked carefully and wanted good evidence of income (Ed didn't have tax returns so it's taken us 2 RFEs to persude them that he does earn enough!)

WSC (Western Service Center) = CSC (California Service Center).

Thank you - you can tell I haven't had to deal with USCIS for a while, all of these acronyms are beyond me now!

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionReceived Bio Appt before NOA1?
Hi everyone,

So, i sent all of the paperwork in to remove conditions on 2/12, and the cheque was cashed a few days later. I didn't receive an NOA1, but today I received the Biometrics appointment, scheduled for 3/10/09. This seems a little bit strange to me - has it happened to anyone else? I checked my case online, and it says that they received it 2/13, and has the usual jargon "we mailed you a notice describing how we will process...". Should I request a copy of the NOA1? (Am I allowed to for that matter..)

One more thing, my service center is apparently "WSC" - err, where is that?! I sent all my stuff into the California Service Center.

Would appreciate anyone's help/advice.

Thanks.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionNo NOA1 - requested duplicate...
Thank you both - my mind is at ease at least about getting the stamp. I've already scheduled an infopass for April 17, but really hoping I'll be able to cancel that!

Just in case anyone has any advice about the driver's license, I'm in California. They wouldn't give me a license when my greencard didn't match my SSN, even when I showed them my marriage cert. The issue was the other way round - SSN showing my maiden name, and the greencard with my married name.

Is it me, or do they seem to have the most trouble with the NOA1 when removing conditions, when it's really important!

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionNo NOA1 - requested duplicate...
Hi all,

I'm looking for some advice. It seems it's pretty common for people not to get their NOA1 extension letter, and that a lot of people resort to getting the I551 stamp in their passport. I requested a duplicate 2 weeks ago today, but nothing's shown up yet, and i'm getting a little worried. So, I have 2 questions:

1. Will they stamp my passport even though it has my maiden name?
2. WIll the DMV renew my driver's license even though my "proof of legal presence" document doesn't match my social security number?

This is really annoying. I've looked into getting my name changed on my passport, but it's such a hassle, and there's no way i'd get everything ready before the green card expiration date (4-26). The passport application involves me sending both my parents' birth certificates, which they'd have to mail over to me. It's not leaving me much time...

Any advice/experience with this would be welcomed!

Thanks all!

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionApproved in 63 days!!!
QUOTE (Michael and Milahjean @ Apr 21 2009, 03:32 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
We were very surprised to find a letter in our mailbox from USCIS today. Through the window in the envelope we saw a plain white sheet - it wasn't the snazzy NOA style stationary we're used to seeing. The letter states "Congratulations! Your request for the removal of the conditional basis of your permanent resident status has been approved...."

So, having mailed the I-751 on Feb 12, this is quite a delight - 63 days from mailing to approval!! There were no emails received or no additional touches since the biometrics update on March 8. I guess this is as good as it gets.

I know many here have agonized over this process for many many months. I can't say why some petitions are being processed at a record rate while others sit and wait and wait and wait. One day your turn will come.

Good luck all!!!!

M&M

Congrats!

I mailed mine on the same day, and got my approval letter today, with a date of April 16th. I guess that makes me 63 days too! Whoo!

If you don't have your NOA/1 year extension letter, then it's time to make an Info Pass appointment.

I had one scheduled for last Thursday, but got the approval letter the day before so cancelled it. Infopass is a last last resort, going there is such a hassle! I can live without a driver's license for a while, it's not a big deal. Just means my husband has to pick me up from work more often... Luckily we spent 2.5 years here without a car, so I know how to get around!

Hi all, just got my approval letter today, although the case status online still shows as pending. It looks like the card might not arrive for a while judging by this thread... I didn't receive the NOA1, and my greencard expires in 4 days - do you think the approval letter will be enough for my employer? (they asked to see something that shows I can work after the original expiration date).

I'm sure they'll be fine, just wondered if anyone else was in this situation.

Thanks!

Just show your employer a receipt notice for I-751. It says that your status was extended for 1 year while they are processing your case. And during this year you can work and travel. I actually went to Canada and back with this receipt and an expired GC this January:) Or if you are really worried you can always make an infopass appointment, go to the field office and they will stamp your passport. Though since you are approved already, there is no need to spend a whole day waiting in line for a stupid stamp.
Good luck

Thanks for replying!

That would work... but I didn't receive the receipt notice. I called up USCIS to request a duplicate, but that never showed either. I had an Infopass appointment scheduled for tomorrow morning just in case, but I've cancelled it since I received the approval notice: you're right, I don't want to stand in line for the stupid stamp!! I'm not too concerned really, I'm sure my employer will accept it. The DMV on the other hand... Think I'll have to wait for the greencard to show before I can renew my driver's license!

Hi, I know you've probably already answered this a million times, but i've spent hours looking and i'm still not entirely sure!

We got approved on the 18/8 (yayyy) and i'm trying to get everything ready for packet 3 when it arrives. I thought that once this arrived you just had to send back the DS-230 part I and II and everything else you take with you to the interview. However i've been reading around and some people are sending everything back, including the police report, which is going to take forever to receive...

Also, does the adviacit of support also need to be sent back with packet 3?

Would appreciate advice!

i'm in the same boat. my fiance has gone to the amex office in lahore twice now. he's so impatient. one of the last vjayers to get a k1 visa said it took a little over 3 weeks to get the interview notice. good luck. you can try emailing the embassy. when i had before with other issues, they were helpful, but i've heard they kind of have a unhelpful attitude in general.
