United KingdomTell us a story
I lived in Ham (not West Ham), near Kingston-upon-Thames until I was about three I think, so don't really remember much of that... remember Richmond Park though, that was a very nice place if i recall!

I lived in near Portsmouth from then on, a place called Horndean. It was generally a nice place, we lived sort of in the country, and it wasn't far to get to some lovely quiet pubs in the middle of nowhere. Portsmouth isn't really my cup of tea... but there are some nice bits that are quite new, like Gunwharf Quays, which are a lot nicer than the old parts of Portsmouth. many a night I spent on Guildhall Walk when I was 18/19, I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to go down there anymore!

For the past 4 years I lived in Oxford as I was at University. I lived right in the centre of town, and it was such a lovely place to live. Right near all the best pubs shops and kebab vans Oxford had to offer! I miss kebab vans...It was always cold though, must be all the rivers...

Immigration attorneys do it all the time - they print things on funny coloured paper as well - and they have special 'blue out' and 'green out' for the forms.

Ed has a treo, and he loves it - he does seem to spend far too much time getting it to 'talk' with his mac nicely, but in a situation like yours it is a very useful feature! Glad you still have your photos :)

United KingdomWorking when in USA

Can anybody give any insight on how to go about working in the shortest amount of time once in the states.

Amie seems to think getting married ASAP and finding somewhere to get marriage cert in a few days is quickest way to get the permit i.e Vegas stylee (if they give cert straight away even). I am not flying through JFK so the EAD is out. Don't want to be out of work for much longer than 3 months if possible.

Any ideas anybody

All you can do is apply for AOS with EAD as soon as possible, and then you will receive the EAD within 90 days (well, you should anyway). I got mine in about 70ish days, and that was with an RFE as well, so hopefully you shouldn't have too much of a wait.

I love that place :) I would've gone there ages ago to get supplies but we don't have a car and it takes a while to get there from Long Beach on the bus... We were thinking of moving to Santa Monica just for that pub/shoppe!

it looks like I've just been shopping with my eyes closed, I'll do some looking around this weekend :)

I neeeeeeeeeeeeeed tea, I wouldn't mind paying lots for it. I might give in and go on one of those websites... I've avoided them so far because I'm scared of how much I'll want to buy!

Good luck :) Let us know when you find a nice place to live - I'm not too far away in Long Beach and we're looking to move in the not so distant future, so if you find a perfect location we may have to follow you there!

I didn't know it was pancake day until my mum texted me this morning.. I was really upset, mainly cos I realised I don't know how to make them properly! They always turn out weird when I try. Also, I think there's something weird about the flour here...

Probably because most American tourists in the UK don't set foot outside the city.

Oh good. I knew I was special when my first real UK visit was to Cosham...

Cosham! What a wonderful place to visit. Where I'm from (Southsea) we call Cosham "The North". ;)

Haha Cosham, I lived in Horndean - not far! I remember many friday nights on southsea seafront, or if I really wanted to see a fight, guildhall walk...

BA is a having a super-cheap 3 day sale at the moment - just bought flights to London from LA for $500 including tax -- doesn't get much better than that. Travel before April, I think.

Wow that is good! Shame I'm travelling at the beginning of May really. At the moment it's $709 LAX - LHR return for May, but I'm keeping an eye on it for the next few weeks until I book. This is all from Orbitz.com. I might just pay the extra $20 and fly Virgin :) Not a huge fan of American Airlines...

ohh I like this thread. I will be booking flights from LAX to LHR pretty soon and I will let you know if I find anything good :) Or you could let me know!

It seems like flights cost so much more cos of the crappy dollar :( I didn't mind paying 350 pounds for a flight (my god this keyboard doesn't even have a pound sign) but $700 plus seems like far too much!

I saw my first 50 cent coin today, I have to say that was quite exiting!

Back to topic - I'm never sure if it's worth picking an airline and getting the frequent flyer miles going, or to just go for the cheapest (and usually most inconvenient). I'm guessing I will be flying to England and back to CA twice a year, what's that - like 24000 miles? You must get something good for that...

USCIS Service CentersREF mailing question. help!!!
I received a pink REF notice from

US Department of Homeland Security
P.O. box 648004
Lees Summit, M0
64002

So I mailed REF overnight via USPS to this address (last night).

Today it was delivered: Your item was delivered at 6:11 PM on April 1, 2010 in LEES SUMMIT, MO 64081 to HOMELAND SECURITY . The item was signed for by M SIEVERS.

Question: why delivery zip cod doesn’t match? I sent it to 64002 and it is delivered at 64081. Why is that? Has my REF gone to a wrong place???

USCIS Service CentersUSCIS Chicago

Historically in the past K-3 petitions were processed by the National Benefits Center (NBC) in Missouri, recent procedure changes by the USCIS now has CSC & VSC doing K-3 petitions. You file your petition to the Chicago address, they will forward that petition to NBC and then based on where you live or whatever decision criteria is in place your petition could be further transferred to either of the other two service centers. A convoluted way to do business but that is our government.

I concur. I just received an email from CRIS stating they (chicago) were transferring my I-129F to the office here in california where I live. At first I though something was wrong since they did not forward it to NBC. After some searching I found this is the norm for now at least. I read here on VJ they do this so both the I-130 and I-129F can be approved at the same time. One office now holds both docs instead of two independent offices. Just checked my bank...both checks have cleared. So far so good.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)CR-1 "Agent" Advice Needed For Friend....

I agree that the USC is generally the best choice for agent.

The beneficiary can prepare and sign documents ahead of time and send them to the USC to be ready to mail out when the NVC wants them, it will save a lot of time.

If your friend is not familiar with the shortcuts, I recommend reviewing James' Shortcuts in the pinned NVC Timesavers thread at the top of this forum, and also the NVC Flowchart in the guides.

I was wondering about the same question. I thought about having the NVC send all the docs to my spouse to cut time but the most efficient way was to elect myself (petitioner) as agent. I already informed her of all the necessary docs and I should have them in a few days. Just put the date and off it goes. Hoping to save as much time as possible.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)I-129F arrives at Embassy before I-130 is completed?
We are almost finished with the NVC using the I-130 that was approved back in March. I just sent my I-864 package and now waiting on the DS-230 to be generated. One more form then it gets shipped to the Embassy in Manila.

Now I receive this letter today (like a few other VJ'ers) from the NVC stating that in one week they will forward my approved I-129F petition to Manila for processing. Should I stop this from happening? We just want our I-130 to finish its course.

I don't want the I-129F to arrive at the Embassy before the I-130 gets completed. What happens if it does? Should I email them to stop the I-129F? Do I still need the I-129F for some reason or another?

What would Visa Journey do? (WWVJD) :D

I just received my NOA2  for my I-130 and on the form it says "We have sent the original visa petition to the Department of State National Visa Center Portsmouth, NH".

If I read this correctly...does this mean they sent my I-130 to NVC for processing? My I-129F is still at CSC waiting for approval. I read here on VJ that most recent filers had their I-130 retained in favor of the I-129F. I wonder if my I-130 will actually show up at the NVC in the next few weeks? Is this a general statement on all I-130's or should I start gathering necessary docs?

I filed mines on 2/26/2007.

Concerning the I-130 form... I used the one that expired on 01/31/07 which did not have the extra proof requirement attached to part 7. Since no question was asked no extra proof was sent. Hopefully no RFE. Checking my NOA1 it was recieved on 01/11/07 so we barely made it on the time frame.

I-129F was sent on jan. 30 and the NOA1 was sent back on Feb. 5th. Now is has been transferred to CSC. Both checks have cleared. Still waiting for the I-130 to get touched.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresPossible to Postpone K-3??

Ok so if your 129f is still at a service center, then there's no way the consulate knows about it.

This might be a wild guess, but perhaps the packet is for the IR1 interview.

I was so happy when she told me about it!!! Once she read off the Case Number.....I knew right away its for the K-3 and not the I-130.

MY signature timeline is not complete. My I-129F was sent to the Embassy back in May...and finally reached the embassy last week in July. So now the Embassy has my I-129F and the NVC has my I-130. Wish we could afford the AOS fee, she would be here in a few months using the K-3.

Contact the embassy, and reschedule.

http://manila.usemba...v/wwwh3216.html

I updated my timeline....sorry for the confusion. I guess this is my best option. My I-130 has always taken the lead over the I-129F until now. My best guess is that my I-130 will be approved with a few weeks......hoping no RFE's.

I will have my wife call the Embassy and postpone the k-3 interview for as long as possible to allow the I-130 to catch up. Worst case is my wife arrives by year end instead of within 2 months. Why couldn't the fee increase come later in the year! Missed it by a few weeks....

I wonder what she received in the mail that they think is the K3 packet?

She received a Medical date (aug 29) and Interview date (sept 5) along with other papers. I will be in the Philippines in a few days so I can find out what they actually sent her.

My wife just received her K-3 packet in the mail today. Since most of you know the fees were increased this week and because of this we would like to postpone or delay her Medical and Interview date in favor of waiting for the I-130 to clear. We just sent the last documents for the I-130 to NVC last week. Hopefully we should know in a few weeks if approved.

What is the best way to postpone or delay the K-3......without hurting your chances when interviewing for the I-130? Do we email them and suggest postponement? Call? Looking for ideas here. :help:

Woke the wife up from her bamboo mat (pinays, you know what i'm talking about) via cell phone to tell her the good news just a few minutes ago. I'm sure she'll wake up in a few hours with some dream about me calling and telling her she's coming to California soon...
