IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresSep 08 NOA1, then nothing?
I sent in I-130 Aug 20, 08 and am still waiting for NOA2.

We are going I-30 route. I called USCIS but just receive the below via automated voice message. I'll try calling tomorrow to talk to an actual person? Seems like a long time waiting....my patience has worn out? I sent in a full I-130 with two affadavit of bona fide marriage and some bank transfers to show comingling of financial resources. I'm wondering if my package was insufficient in some way? Any thoughts appreciated from this forum.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMore than 6 Months NOA1 to NOA2
QUOTE (MMW @ Mar 15 2009, 05:37 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
We were in the same situation with our I-130 petition. We reached 7 months on our NOA-1 and still nothing from USCIS and tried contacting them to do a request for info which was a waste of time. I then contacted my congressman and told them it was outside the 6 moth window and his office contacted USCIS for us and that same afternoon we received an Email from USCIS with our NOA-2. So I would suggest doing the same contact your district Congressman and have them call USCIS to lite a fire there. Good Luck and hopefully you get the same response we did.

All, I really appreciate your responses. I'll contact USCIS and my elected officials.
Best

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMore than 6 Months NOA1 to NOA2
I received NOA1 rapidly on Sept 4, 2008. Now more than 6 months later, no NOA2. Any advice on what to do with USCIS on the phone to get a handle on where my case is at?

Thanks,
Ryan

United KingdomMedical done, now I wait...
Had the medical in London yesterday, was quite painless, and was done within 40 minutes of me arriving. The process was exactly as described in the pinned threads above so won't bore you with the details again! I was told that I need a mumps vaccination again, as each component of the MMR needs to be had twice, and I'm missing a mumps. I thought that just one MMR would be enough, but apparently not, so just a warning to anyone!

Does anyone know if you can still get the mumps by itself? I don't mind having the whole MMR again but would probably rather limit my intake of unnecessary vaccine...

My police certificate arrived today, this being 30 days after the date on the receipt they sent me, not too bad methinks, and in plenty of time for my interview... I don't even have a date yet!

To anyone getting photos, the 449 Oxford Street photo place is up lots of rickety stairs and easy to miss if you're not careful. I was in and out in 5 minutes, not bad at all!

Hope all is well,

United Kingdomwhoo! interview!
Already posted on the embassy forum but i'm just so excited so i'm posting here as well! Got an interview date today, for just 2 weeks away, doesn't leave much planning time!!

how come when you call from here they're absolutely useless, and scottish (no offense to scottish people, i just mean i was shocked that they were all scottish), and when the USC calls from there they're brilliant and give out interview dates and everything!!! well that may have just been me...

anyway, to anyone waiting for interviews from london, i hope you get them soon!!

United KingdomNew to the board
Welcome :) It's always nice to see people from the UK! I hope all goes well for you! I'm reckoning things might speed up a little now after the delay from IMBRA which has clogged up USCIS for so long...

Good luck!

United Kingdomtax questions... exciting...
Thanks for the info kezzie and fwaguy!

I do know that the tax year is annual Boiler, I was just asking on the off chance that I get my temp EAD and do work this tax year.
ninamyersFemaleEngland2006-10-08 09:01:00
United Kingdomtax questions... exciting...
So, I graduated this summer, and have worked for a few months since, which will be my only income this UK tax year, which will total to less than the limit above which you pay tax. So in any normal situation, I would get all the tax I have paid so far back in March. But! I will be earning money when I get to the states - does this have to be taken into account when dealing with the nasty tax people here or can I still get my tax back?

Also... When I'm filing my tax returns next year in the states, do I have to declare the money I earned here?

I'm worried that at some point I'm going to be paying taxes for the same money in two countries! Aaahhh!!

I've also been hearing about some new thing where even JFK isn't giving out the temp EAD, has anyone actually verified this or should I still go ahead with my original plan of flying there and then onto LAX?

Thanks for all your helP!

United KingdomWhat to bring to the embassy with us?
that sounds about right, my interview is 2 days before you so i'll let you know if i forget anything... by the way did you get a vaccination list from the medical place in london? i'm not really sure why they sent it to me!
ninamyersFemaleEngland2006-10-09 13:12:00
United Kingdomhow do i get this info on timelines???
I spent a long time looking at timelines when I had sent my packet three back so I will tell you what I know... When I was looking the average time seemed to be about 6 weeks, about 2 weeks to get packet 4, which would give you an interview date about a month after that. In my case, my packet 4 took longer to arrive, but the interview date was less than two weeks after I received it! Mine interview was only actually a month after sending back packet three, but I think that's probably nearer the quicker end of the scale.

Good luck and hope you get an interview date soon!

United KingdomLeaving tomorrow
Okkk,

So I'm leaving tomorrow at 13.15 from heathrow, I'm just making a few last minute checks before I leave the house tomorrow morning... I need to fill out the white I-94 NOT the green one that I'm used to, it that correct?

I'm connecting in JFK, so hopefully I'll get my EAD stamp :) If not, then I'll wish I'd just got the direct flight and been in LAX sooner

Is there anything else I need to remember? I have the brown envelope and x-ray in my hand luggage.

Wish me luck through immigration!!

United KingdomArrived, and it's hot
So, after all that hassle of getting the visa I am finally in Long Beach with my soon to be husband! Mt journey was somewhat eventful, I missed my connecting flight from jfk to lax, but not diue to slow immigration (that was done within 30 minutes), but becuase we had to sit on the tarmac at heathrow for 3 HOURS waiting for clearance from washington. What??? Anyway, I did eventually get ti LAX at 12.30am local time.

I got the temp EAD stamp, yay!! ANd immigration really was quite straightforward, had to wait for one of the blkokes cos he was outsiide having a **, but that was my only delay... He said to me 'you're unusual, we usually get people from ###### who come in and marry some 65 year old'. Hmmm. Charming man.

SO, Ed is at school (USC), and I am putting off unpacking!

yep, you need the visa bill to get into the building! No need for passport photocopy as they keep the original anyway for a couple of days.

Good luck!!

United KingdomPOE and 90 day work visa
I went through there last week, and they just stamped me without me asking. I did ask them if they'd done it and he looked at me suspiciously and then showed me. I'm pretty sure you'll be ok! I'm still waiting for my social security number so can't work yet, but we;re about to send of AOS and EAD so maybe, just maybe... there'll be an overlap. But I'm not banking on it!!

Good luck

I paid £20 more to get it delivered before 8am, at least that way there would def be someone at home... On day 2 now, and there's 10minutes to go! Don't think it's arriving today somehow!

United Kingdomhow long did it take you to get your visa?
Oohh how annoying, maybe I'll just quit my job after my interview and not work the notice.. Then I'll definitely be at home to get it... perhaps I'll be lucky and it'll arrive on one of the days my mum's at home. But being lucky during this process does seem to be a bit of a rarity...haha.
ninamyersFemaleEngland2006-10-14 08:12:00
United Kingdomhow long did it take you to get your visa?
Hmmm... So it's looking like 3 days is the norm, which would make it a day where no one will be at home to answer the door to the postman... Is it just like a parcel where they take it back to the depot and you can go and get it later? I work next to the depot so that would be quiite handy!

Thanks

United Kingdomhow long did it take you to get your visa?
Hellooo,

Just trying to get an idea of how long it's recently been taking the embassy to post out the visa after the interview. I know it;s never going to be a certainty, but it's nice to have soem idea... My friend who was getting a student visa said it took three days for him, and he lives in Ireland, has it been that quick for most people?

Thanks for your help!

United KingdomAnyone in CA know of any expat groups?

Hi Maria. Is it nice to finally be there though?

I handed my notice in today and my boss who is normally a total w****r was lovely. I explained that I'm still waiting for my interview and that as long as my interview is Nov or Dec I will be flying out 3rd January. He said if mt interview doesn't come through until January then I can stay on a couple more weeks. Which was good news.

Is it lovely and sunny in Long Beach? I'm moving to San Diego so futher down the Coast from you. Keep in touch for how you are keeping yourself busy. Is it warm enough to go to the beach?

OH yes it's wonderful to finally be here! THe first couple of days I was here was def warm enough to go to the beach, it got a bit cooler but it's still very pleasant. Don't make the mistake I did and bring the wrong clothes!

I think all the Californians think it's cold, they're walking around in jumpers, but coming from england it feels positively tropical! Haha I'm sure i'll get used to it...

Good luck with everything, hope you get your interview soon!

Not many from Portsmouth then... Living here at the moment, but was at Uni in Oxford for 4 years, much nicer than Portsmouth!

Oxford's also a lot better because it's where I met Ed :)

United KingdomTell us a story
I lived in Ham (not West Ham), near Kingston-upon-Thames until I was about three I think, so don't really remember much of that... remember Richmond Park though, that was a very nice place if i recall!

I lived in near Portsmouth from then on, a place called Horndean. It was generally a nice place, we lived sort of in the country, and it wasn't far to get to some lovely quiet pubs in the middle of nowhere. Portsmouth isn't really my cup of tea... but there are some nice bits that are quite new, like Gunwharf Quays, which are a lot nicer than the old parts of Portsmouth. many a night I spent on Guildhall Walk when I was 18/19, I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to go down there anymore!

For the past 4 years I lived in Oxford as I was at University. I lived right in the centre of town, and it was such a lovely place to live. Right near all the best pubs shops and kebab vans Oxford had to offer! I miss kebab vans...It was always cold though, must be all the rivers...
