Ours took over a week mate! Don't worry at this stage, you will be fine. If he sent it on Wed, it wouldn't have gotten there until Thurs maybe Fri. You should have a number that the USPS gave you.

Talk soon. luv.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresShould I send my passport as the original for supporting documentation?
Copies of everything.

DON'T send the divorce dercee in, you only have the one!

You will need the originals for the interview.

We photocopied every page of my passport and sent that too. Also, my birth cert. It's not asked for though, but to be safe....

And to second Pushbrk's post, ours where ALL original copies too that we sent in.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVisiting foreign fiance during the K-1 process
QUOTE (Luke and Deanna @ Nov 21 2008, 08:01 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hello,

I have searched the forum and read over the FAQs and didn't find this answer.

I was wondering if I the U.S citizen is allowed to visit my fiance during the K-1 process.

If so, when is the best time? How long can I stay?

I am currently 18 and am a student. My dad will be the co-sponsor as he makes well above the 125% poverty level.

Since I am a student do I need a job? Will it look bad if I do not. I will have a job before we fill in the I-134. I just don't know if I will when we file the I-129F.

Like any person on this forum I would love to spend as much time with him and his wonderful family as I can.

We could use all the advice and personal experience we can get.

Thank You,

Deanna

Do a little more looking, there are many threads on this subject!

Good luck.

i am due to visit her again in january, do i tell immigration that the purpose of my visit is to visit my fiancee? and if then she files for the K1? is this the start?

For how long do you plan to visit?

It might be better to say girlfriend at this stage.

The start? Do you mean start of the process? She will file the I-129F, which is the petition for the K1, not the actual K1.

wow been doing this for 4 hours now and finally understanding what i fear is 1% of what i need to know.LOL. But if she's worth it, then its worth it, and she is.

i will visit for 3 weeks only in Jan and say girlfriend, then after i leave she will submit I-129F. i think i have this right. I have collected and retained all letters, phone bills, etc for months now along with plane tickets. Any other items i may need (collective photos, statements etc)???

I can understand. I have spent DAYS and DAYS reading information on-line.

You can file the I-129F whilst you are there, if you wish. In the meantime you could download a copy of the G325A - this is has to be sent with the petition and has to be an original copy. You could start getting that together, it's not difficult. Also USA size passport pictures - when your there. Just trying to help you save on the postage. good.gif

Keep any evidence you have have as proof that you have met in the last 2 years - boarding cards are useful too, so hold onto those. Keep everything. You will need it later on too.

Why would you want to do that? A K3 takes just as long, if not longer than K1. The K3 is outdated.

There are many possible reasons for doing exactly this. It's generally helpful to remember the primary goal is marriage and living happily ever after. Family and other concerns often are a higher priority than the speed of being reunited with a loved one. As such, the fastest way to the visa is often not the best path for the couple. Priorities also tend to change as relationships progress and as people discover the eventual ramifications of their initial choices. This may sound cryptic but there are many possibilities. So, while it's perfectly legitimate to ask the "why" questions, do be prepared to hear as many different good reasons as there are couples contemplating such an action.

Indeed. Which is why I was asking why? To get a better understanding of the situation. It's very vague.

With respect, combined with the vague statement, "The K3 is outdated." your question seemed to track with your repeated promotion of the K1 visa as the "best" choice, each time the question comes up. The OP didn't ask for examples of when getting married during the K1 process would be a good idea. He asked what he asked and the answer is "no". We are not entitled to know the reason behind his question. Our curiosity is something we own outright.

When and where to marry and why are all highly personal decisions based on wide ranging priorities and values. Let's respect that.

With respect. Not once did I mention the K1 is best. I'm just going with the information I have gathered on my own journey. We all have different paths to follow and opinions to accompany them.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat was the fastest NOA1 to NOA2 for Vermont filers in 2008?
What is wrong here?!?!?! I'm with Kim on this one.

Most people come here for support, help and comfort. So what if someone got approved quickly? It doesn't always mean they will get their visa any quicker. I personally love it when someone gets a speedy approval..it's one less lonely person here and that has to be a good thing.

There is really no gain in being negative, other than attracting bad feelings for yourself. We are all in the same situation - lets all get along and continue to help each other out.

Maybe a "what's the longest between NOA1 & NOA2" thread will help put things into perspective.

Life isn't fair sometimes, but it is what is is.

Peace.

Well, I feel like I am in the same boat...not that my attorney is giving me major problems, but I would not have hired her had I found this website earlier. She charged $500, and they "guarantee approval" I don't know if the guarantee applies to just the NOA2 or the K-1 visa. And they refund all the money if you are not approved. I found her on this website: http://k1k3visas.com/. I plan on continuing with her for AOS, but just because it will be of no extra cost to me and she already has the paperwork. She was very helpful in filing all the correct information and necessary paperwork, and she even got the case# from USCIS for me to track, BUT she did not tell me that I was supposed to get the NOA1 (I-797) in my mail, which I did not, and now, almost 100 days later, she tells me that I should have received the NOA1 in the mail a week after they got my case...even though I specifically emailed her and asked her about this about 90 days ago...and whenever I ask her any questions, it seems to me that she just feels burdened by my questions, although they are all legitimate questions, and she has given me some wrong information about I-134's, which thanks to this website, I found the correct information, and her answer to everything is: just wait, we will sort out everything at the right time...BUT on the other hand, she is very prompt in her replies to my emails to her and phone calls, even though I may not be satisfied with the answers, she does answer all of my attempts to contact her, and she did prove to be dependable in terms of filing the correct information and all, no RFE's for us. Oh and yes, I ended up calling USCIS and they put in another order for my NOA1 (I-797), so I should be receiving it in about 1 week...
Bottom line: I would not have hired an attorney if I had found this website earlier..

Hey buddy if i had your attorney i would be happy as larry. at least she responds back in a timely manner. I have been trying to get hold of mine all week and not just calling once or twice a day but at least 10 or more times a day!! and at various intervals too and each time i'm greeted with the same leave a message hoohaa...and for the record leaving messages is a waste of my breath because last time i left a message he called back a week later. in the time which he we retained his services we have spoken to him perhaps 3 or 4 times and in fact the last two conversations was to tell us he received the forms, they are on his desk but he will be away for a week and will look through them when he gets back. So the 2nd conversation is when he returned after the week away to tell us that he trusts the forms are in order and will send them off. To me that indicates that he hasn't even looked at them and is just trusting us that they are correct. So correct me if i'm wrong but isnt that the whole reason we hired you? so that we didnt make any mistakes and so that he can correct us or tell what else is needed if anything?

He certainly does not inspire or fill me with confidence and i may cease to do business with him after the holidays.

Thanks to rocks btw for sending the links to the massachussets state bar complaint forms

I'm sorry to hear you are having HUGE problems with your attorney! Damn!

May cease??? I'd blow him right off.

OK, now your in a bit of a pickle....take a step back and think about how to resolve the matter. There are plenty of people here to help.

And yes he's had the stuff long time June this year in fact. But the problem is the complete lack of communication all we wanna know is does he have all the info, is it correct and if so then when are you going to send it off dammit!
Thanks for the reply btw

Hello everyone, I just started the K1 process and OMG it really takes a lot out of you emotionally. I have been reading your posts and I must say I am very impressed, what a great support system you have here. If I had known about this I think I could have avoided some of the the depression that this whole process was putting me through a few weeks ago.
I am completely IN LOVE with my fiancee and my life just wouldnt be complete without him here with me. I had to make an emergency visit to Jamaica last week just to clear my mind. I feel a lot better now and I am ready to move through this process PATIENTLY(what other way is there).
Thank you, Loria

Welcome Loria!

No depression allowed here. The process doesn't get any easier, you just learn to live with it.

only thing i can tell u is what i have done first time i tried to expedite they decided after six days they could not because my case is in security if it is in security or back ground check they cant do anything until it is out.

i again on the first part of dec asked for expedite they are now requesting supporting documents for the reasons that i asked them to expedite.

u call the number for customer service and follow the prompts one of them will say is to request an expedite, u then tell them why u think ur case needs to be expedited, if they think that it might be a valid request they send u by snail mail a request to fax in supporting documents.

to expedite u either have to be in the service, have a medical condition that waiting attributes to ur medical condition and it cant be just ur nerves, suffering large financial loss, or requesting for humanitarian reasons for ur fiance

hope this helps u

What about a pregnant fiance? Mine is pregnant and I requested an expedite. It has only been a few days so I haven't heard back yet

There would be many pregnant couples on here if that was the case! wink.gif

I have a question...I know the requirements for the K1 is that you only have to met your SO once within the past 2 years...I know it also looks better the more visits you have to see your SO... Im filing the end of December and am trying to go back in March to see my SO again, but if something happens and not able to go financially then (before interview comes) wanting to know if that lowers our chances of being approved...I was just wondering has anyone been approved just going once to see their SO on the K1?...

Once should be enough. Hopefully some others will come along and give you their stories.

QUOTE (Silverbackman @ Feb 6 2009, 05:28 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Ok so recently me and my girlfriend from Romania got engaged. We have read some of the descriptions and requirements but still have some important and more specific questions and this seems like a good place to ask them. So here goes;

1. Is it possible for my fiancee to get an invite from me to come where I am (California, USA) on a visitor's visa and then marry me right when she gets here?

2. Would coming here on a visitor's visa and then marrying be quicker than coming here on a fiancee visa? Like wouldn't it be quicker to apply and get confirmation for a visitor's visa and just marrying when she gets here? How long would this take?

3. How long would it take to process a k-1 fiancee visa? If we applied this month or next month when will it clear for her to arrive? The target we are thinking of by is June-July of this year (2009). Would that be possible? Would it be possible by then even if this is applied later on?

4. The requirements state we must have had met before.....which of course is fine as we have. Will they try to look for direct evidence though? My fiancee was talking about how they might look at whether I had a flight directly to Bucharest or somewhere else in Romania......but the thing is....I came there through other countries. I took a plane to Germany and from there I went by bus and then car around that area of Europe, finally reaching Romania to meet her so there is no direct evidence. Will they be pressuring us to provide some further evidence or will they just take our word for it? Do we have to have some kind of picture together because we did not take one together yet?

5. Once she is here how difficult will it be for her to get a job? She has a college degree from a university in Bucharest but she says it may not help her get a job. What type of visa will she need for one.....will she be able to with a k-1 visa? Or if she comes here by visitor's visa and then marries can she get a job either before or after we are married?

6. What type of paperwork do we have to fill out for either of these methods? What will she specifically have to fill out and what specifically will I have to fill out?

Well those are some of the questions for now, thanks to all in advance who read and reply. smile.gif

Question 2.

It is legal to go to the USA on a visitors visa with the intent to marry.
