IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWhat Happens Next
When he enters the US, the visa will be stamped and will become his temporary green card for a year from entry until he gets his real one in the post (minus long delays). He is free to work. Just got to your local SSA office to get his a social security number. You will get that within 10 days.

Congrats by the way!

Some other good items to show that you are living in a relationship would include co-tenants on a lease or co-owners of a house, co-ownersip of a car
and utility bills in both your names.

Would it be ok if they were old? As we are not living in the same house right now... Or should I just get my name put on a couple more things over there?

Hi all... Nice to meet you all

My husband is the US citizen and I am British. We have been married for a couple of years and living in the UK, but he recently went back to the US to find work (he just got a job) and a house... So our son and I are planning to join him permanently by July 09.

We have been reading up on all the things that we can find on this site and others about the process... But we have a couple questions:
  1. For the I-130 Package none of the copy's need to be certified?? So he can just photocopy the back and front of his birth certificate and our marriage certificate?
  2. For evidence of a bonafide marriage will the following be enough:
  • Our son's birth certificate
  • Joint Bank accounts/both in the UK and USA (although the US one is new)
  • Phone Bills
  • Emails
  • Affidavits from his mother and father, my mother and a neighbor

Is there anything else?? or should we be getting the affidavits from other people?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresJune Filer , Anyone still waiting for NOA2?
Hi everyone,

we received our NOA1 at the start of June and got a touch on 21st September, but since then nothing, so my husband and I are getting really frustrated by this whole process.
At least it is only a couple of weeks until we can chase up USCIS and tell them they have exceeded their time frames but it's just a really stressful time!

Hi guys

I'm new to VJ, and am still unclear about the whole process.

So I have sent the DS230 andthe docs requested to the NVC - what will happen now? Am I just waiting for an interview now? How long do ppl wait in London?

I filed I-130 in June 2007 at the California Service Centre, and have come thus far! Please tell me how long I have left...!

Thanks

If they have all the evidence they need, you should get approved within a month. Check automated line at NVC and message will first say "case complete" and when your appointment is set at the embassy it will say "Case forwarded to embassy".

Excellent - thanks! Ummm...what number do I have to call?

I got it - thanks ! Is there anyone in London who can tell me how long their's took?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresShould I FAKE IT?
If all they need is a document to prove that the US Embassy require this police certificate from you, then would you be bale to just print out the instructions fromt he website? That way, they will see that you do need it fo ra reason, and you won;t have to fake a letter fromt he NVC...alhtough it doesn;t sound like it could do much harm, you are effectively trying to fake a letter on behalf of the US Government...so I dont know if it is worth the risk...i totally understand your dilemma, the process is frustrating enough without the extra unnecessary bueaucracy.

Ok, for some reason I can't find clear/direct answers to this question. I have read, read and read! So accept my apologies if this question has been answered already.

Intro: I was born in Nigeria and was living there, for years, after the age of 16. I am a UK citizen, I am currently and have been based in London the last 10 years.

Question: Please could anyone tell me if I need a police record from both the UK (London) and Nigeria or do I need one from just the UK?

I have read the list/requirements at http://travel.state..../info_3195.html But it is not clear to me.

Help please! innocent.gif helpsmilie.gif

you dont need to travel to nigeria for police cert. just get ur fingerprint done wherever u live now and make a photo page of ur nigeria passport and two photograph passport then mail it to ur relative in nigeria they will get it done for u at alagbon, it might cost them almost #7,000 been that u re not present. but mind u nigeria police cert valid for just three month, that is how i got my done.

Thanks for your suggestion kc4them, I am looking into to this option. I will get my finger print done in London through Scotland yard and then have it sent to Nigeria with copies of my passport and passport photographs.
This will workout even cheaper, almost sounds too good to be true laughing.gif Thanks again

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWhat countries do I need police record from?
Indeed, I agree with the last response (by Lansbury) that while it maybe possible on paper, the whole process would take longer in time to process a Nigerian police report remotely (ie from London). I imagine it could take anything up to 2 months or more.

I have learnt so far, that I could have it done in person within 1-2 days if I traveled down. While buying a flight ticket and taking two working days off work might be expensive (quite easily £1K), it may/is actualy more efficient in terms of time. A typical case of some cost benefit analysis. A trip to Nigeria it is then!

Thanks Lansbury and john_and_marlene for your inputs. good.gif

John, thanks for the response.

I guess now I can take some time off work and make the expensive trip home to Nigeria for it. Thanks again

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresDS-230 documents for UK beneficiary
Hi all,
I spoke to an NVC operator yesterday and was informed that my DS-230 form and instruction has been sent by mail. Woohoo! However, previous experiences tell me this could take another 3-4 weeks to arrive.
To save time so I can, hopefuly, complete at NVC before Christmas, I will be using James' shortcut. I have generated my barcode sheet and also collated all documents as stated on the DOS website . See below:
  • Completed DS-230 form
  • Barcode sheet
  • Cover letter
  • Birth Certificate
  • Marriage Certificate
  • Marriage Termination Documentation
  • Photocopy of Valid Passport Biographic Data Page
  • Police Certificate(s)

My questions are or I was wondering if you guys can confirm:
  1. Am I missing anything else?
  2. Is there a UK based beneficiary & US based petitioner who have completed at NVC that can advice if I am following the right procedure?

Many thanks.

I have seen bits and pieces JSC 2.0 info in a few threads, talking about updates, but not the complete instruction. Does this exist or maybe we need some form of version control. biggrin.gif

If the complete JSC 2.0 does not exist I will be more than happy to give a shot at updating it if necessary!

Case completed at NVC 17-Dec-07. Awaiting interview date or further instructions.

I would recommend that you do not wait to receive instructions in the post, once the automated system says that an instruction has been generated, you can put together all its requirements and send it to NVC. The only exception to this rule is the IV Bill.

Read up on Jame's Shortcut V2.0 aka JSC V2.0. Hope this helps. smile.gif

T

Thanks and I have heard of this but what is a IV Bill?

The IV Bill is the immigration visa fee which is required from petitioner/beneficiary. You can not make this payment without the NVC generated invoice.

To understand when in the NVC process this takes place see the NVC flowchart at http://www.visajourn...wchart_v1-2.pdf

Hope this was helpful.

Thanks Lansbury you've been of tremendous help. The thing is i required 2 police certificates as i'm a British Born Nigerian, and lived in Nigeria for some years. The NPF is Nigerian Police Force. I'll call that number right away. Thanks again Lansbury, i really appreciate. However what still baffles me is that the Super didn't give a third interview afterall. Did they arrive at a decision and the CO was too uppity to say something cogent? However my medical was inconclusive as i have congenital medical history, so either or i knew nothing was to be issued on the d-day.

The CO was the most annoying bloody yank i have ever had to deal with. After going through the 1st interview, said i needed a 2nd, sat me down for 3hrs after which i was tossed the bluesheet and told "send that -police cert- in and you free to go." Tried to ask her politely and simply said you are free to to go again and again as though on a timer of some sort. No explaination whatsoever. I think CO got beef with a brother. Haha! the bloody yanks! i got nothin but love for them anyways!

Thanks Lansbury for showing concern!

By second interview I take it you were called to a window and handed over all your documents, and then some time later called up again for a second interview. If so that is how everyone is done.

Without a police certificate they are not going to issue a visa or by the sound of it even make a decision. If they were a bit off hand it might have had something to do with you sending the check list back to say you were ready for the interview and had all the documents when you didn't.

What is the blue sheet you refer to, not seen anyone else mention that way on here, and what does it say. Is it a RFE?

Interview 1) called to a window, handed over all documents including spotless police certs from the Met and NPF. Asked by the polite English CO about pending Medical results and likely departure date.

Interview 2) called to a window manned by a female CO the interview proper. Got frazzled by some trick questions. CO said fingerprints for NPF P.C. is flawed. Said superior needs to decide a much too complex case for her person, and said "go sit and wait to be called over for interview 3, this time by the Super", and issue a bluesheet with a check against the required docs.

Interview 3) 3 hrs later (hungry, fuming, and felt like wringing someones neck.lol!). Got called up to same window. CO said nothin other than "You are free to go, call them (them being the embassy courier) and send us a fresh NPF P.C with fingerprints by the new scotland yard". Tossed back passport, circled tel. number on bluesheet for courier service., and i asked wha what ?? said nothing but "you free to go, you are free to go." I was so vexed i had to walk away before starting drama, albeit with loads of questions in my head unanswered.

The passport has to be at the Embassy for them to stick the visa in it. There is no other way.

The assumption from what you have posted is that when they have all the documents they require to hand they will arrange for another "interview"

Did they tell you at the interview the visa will be issued when all the documents are with them, or was no decision reached.

Hi all,

I have been there done that for the CR category at the Brits-Yankeys base. Interview was so so and got blue sheeted and passport back, and instructed to send them a missing document and hasten the meds exam. The question is, with passport in hand and couriering the missing doc and getting them a conclusive med exams results, how is the Visa thingy suppose to get stamped on pass if the pass stays with me.

Sorry y'all i know my timeline is missing, will update ASAP soon as i scale the whole huddle. Promise!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresHusband admits during medical he smoked weed 4 years ago
Impressed as I am with outraged sense of honesty displayed in this thread I am somewhat confused about the original logic. If the act of simply *admitting* having taken a bit of weed in the past results in a one year ban then as such an admission would be true 12 months later too so then that's effectively a permanent ban. A blood test which confirms the fact you may be a current consumer is of course a different matter but did the OP confirm that a blood test was being done ?

At the very least I'd like to thank the OP's SO as it tells me that should one have partaken then one might well be careful how the question was answered.
