K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVWP - Proving ties to Australia
I visited the States last year on my Australian passport (so also on the VWP), and said, when asked, that I was visiting my boyfriend... they didn't ask for any ties to Aus at all
which was lucky, as I'm living in London, but y'know ;)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNever met my fiance but sent in the K-1 application
I think many people still see the K1 as a potential 'get to know each other' visa... I know when I first scanned down the list of options it went through my mind (didn't take much reading to get it right out again, but not everyone does that level of research... or, indeed, any... ;) )

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMoney Order Problem...
I don't know about the address problems - I've heard of cheques being sent back for an incorrect address, but you never know; you might be lucky... and in any case, no: I'm sure you're not the only ones to do such a thing ;)

I'd give it a week or two longer and then call if you haven't got anything in the mail... you should hear ONE way or another; either NOA1 or a returned package if there's a problem... all the best with it :)

from everything I've heard, I don't think you can... I think you have to wait for the hard copy of the NOA1
someone else may know otherwise, though

I really wouldn't get hung up on it if I were you... you know they received your petition, and that it's in the queue; a paper NOA1 isn't going to tell you any more than that smile.gif

as I didn't know at the time that I'd be needing that sort of proof, I got rid of my e-ticket to Texas last year (paper and e-copies), but one phone call to the travel company and they re-sent the original documents via email, at no charge... and yeah; credit card statements (and online banking records) often contain more than you might think

How long did you visit for though? Me visiting for nearly the full period allowed may make a difference?

it may; I don't know... you're right; my visit was much shorter (just shy of two weeks, in fact)
I still think if you show proof of ties to London you won't have a problem... but in the end of course it's impossible to guarantee anything

I'm sorry? I don't understand what you mean

ry, I flew from London to the US (I'm not English, so was travelling on my Australian passport, but we're also on the visa waiver program so it amounts to about the same thing) late last year to visit my boyfriend... said so quite openly; was asked my intentions; truthfully said I had no intention of marrying him, was asked if I had my flight back arranged, showed the ticket, and was through... the guy was VERY friendly, courteous and pleasant, and it wasn't a problem :)
exactly what you say is up to you, but I don't think you should be worried... specially as you sound quite sane and sensible ;)

I think that job security snipe is pretty unfair; we have no idea how hard they're working... and if a supervisor has instructed staff to prioritise other visas, that's hardly their fault...

Assuming you read that page you linked...you would see that OVERALL things are the same (processing time comparison chart). Obviously over the last few months things are different as they are merging 4 service centers to 2, along with the increase in apps to beat the fees. That means VSC will SHARE THE LOAD NOW whereas before CSC had apps from 3 centers going to them. But I assume you knew that already as an educated newbie, right?

Signed, a reality check

since pushbrk isn't here to do it, should I say here that they're 'petitions', not 'applications'? wink.gif

i agree, she doesnt HAVE to be nice, none of us do. and as far as us NON LETTER WRITERS, we are aware there are other threads to post in, this is one of those. we surely dont need anyones permission to post ANYWHERE, and seeing (as said many times before) this is a public forum, you cant pick and choose the responses you want to read.

oh, so 'I'm allowed to be in the sand box and you can't make me leave, la la la la I can't hear you'?

I don't think ANYONE's sure it's effective; I think people just want to take some action, beyond having a whinge on an internet forum... I work in international campaigning at the moment, and I've lost count of the times people have told me something we're doing is just not going to be effective... sometimes they're right; sometimes they're spectacularly wrong, and in any case, I'd rather be part of the solution than part of the problem in that regard

and perhaps I'm glad I wasn't here then... I always find it interesting how these sorts of things get put down to people's 'personalities'; strange how these personalities never seem to include natural politeness, or even some self-restraint... wink.gif

thank you for the reply

I read you, and I got you; I just don't happen to think sarcasm is the best way to keep things on track, or people feeling calm; I think it stirs things up unnecessarily, and adds to the impression of condescension, which results in people feeling annoyed; I would have thought that we'd be going out of our way to make the discussion positive, rather than otherwise (certainly I am trying to do so, which is why I deleted two replies before the one I posted)

the reasoning behind the letters, as far as I understood it, was not to bewail the fact that this is taking longer than anyone thinks it should, but rather to ask for a certain degree more information; to me the two are very different aims

I agree that insults, going in ANY direction, are regrettable and needless
but again I'd say, I don't think that's the issue at hand

rebeccajo: the UTMOST respect, but that's YOUR issue, and I've seen you say it more than once, and I just don't see why it's relevant here

is there a reason not to write the letters?

could the content of the letter, or the list of recipients, be improved in some way?

if so, please elucidate

if not, why are we still talking about people's emotions? it's just not relevant

(PS using phrases like 'your little problem' and similar comes across as massively condescending, so I for one would appreciate a little less of that. Thanking you kindly in advance).

good on all of you for getting in there and having a go... I agree with rae_and_scott; the chances of this making material difference are low, but they're not non-existent, and it certainly beats sitting around doing nothing

you don't have a timeline, so I can't check dates properly, but if it was filed around the time of the fee increase (as the mentioned date of August 13 would seem to indicate) it may well be it was received after the July 30 cut-off, and has been rejected due to incorrect fees... do you know how much your cheque / money-order was made out for? if your petition was post-marked (or, as some have found to their cost, received) after July 30 you'd have had to pay $455, not $170 as it was before

all the best getting it sorted out quickly

I count myself firmly in the "be patient" crowd, but...wow. To go from 2 weeks to almost 4 months just to get it from the mailroom to a data entry person's desk?

but remember: that 'fifteen weeks' is VERY likely to be the same sort of 'covering their butts' type estimate as the 'six months' thing is for actual approval... approvals are coming in at WELL under six months (though still not as quickly as we'd like, of course), and so far people who have had to wait for their NOA1 haven't waited anything like fifteen weeks... a few were posting about it just yesterday, in fact; it's taken about four to five weeks
yes, still far too long, but I don't think that official estimate is accurate; just something to buy them time if they need it wink.gif
StillThePrettiestFemaleAustralia2007-09-30 01:34:00

there's a thread here where some people have been discussing exactly that situation... you're not alone smile.gif

and there's a link here to the official USCIS Q&A on the subject, discussing the backlog and how it's causing significant delays in sending out even NOA1s, let alone NOA2s

people from the first thread are just - ie in the last couple of days - starting to report cashed cheques and news on their NOA1s, so with a bit of luck, the same should happen for you very soon smile.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow are NOA1 and NOA2 received? And what are the packets?

I have some more questions now that we sent our petition...

How are the NOA1 and NOA2 received? Do they send everything to the USC or do they send something to the non-USC too? Main reason I'm wondering is because the latest address on my G-325A form I won't be living at in a week and a half.

It seems like they email the USC (since the USC is able to put an email address on their I-129F petition) and then send the real thing in the mail. What exactly will be contained in this thing? (And what about the NOA2 also?)

Also, what's all this talk about "Packet 3" and "Packet 4" ??? How many packets are there and how do they know where to send them? What are the packets anyway??

Hello! They mail everything to the USC until you get to the packets, which are mailed to the non USC. You need to change your address on the forms though as soon as you move. You can do this, I believe, by calling USCIS; however, there are specific instructions on how to do this on the forms I believe.

Anyway, back to your questions: The NOA1 is received by mail only -once they cash your check you can see your case number on the back of it. If they cash your check before you receive the NOA1 in the mail -which will probably be the case- you can log on to the USCIS website and use the case number (found on the back of your check) to apply for online updates. If you do this before the NOA1, you could be notified on the NOA1 by email. The NOA2 is given in the same way. However, by this time you should have email updates set up, so you will probably be informed by email before you get the hard copy in the mail. Nothing is contained in your NOA1, except your case number...which is very important. Your NOA2 is needed for your AOS which will happen later. I would recommend saving EVERYTHING you get from USCIS, NVC, Embassy, etc...JUST in case.

Packets and how many there are depends on your embassy and where you are. Most send a Packet 3 which has documents you will need to fill out before they will give you an interview date. Packet 4 just has last minute information in it and stuff you may need to bring to the interview. You get packet 3 AFTER the embassy receives your petition from the nation visa centre, which happens after your NOA2.

If you want to see what will be included in your packets then go to the "embassy info" section, look up your embassy, and there it is!

Good Luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresKind of complicated story.. ideas appreciated~
Hey OP!

At one point you asked about how much the process costs....

No one can give you an exact amount -or even a rough amount!- of how much it costs cause it depends on where you are, what your situation is, etc! For instance, people in Scotland here in the UK have to travel to London for their interview and medical. While others, like us! who live in London already, don't have to pay that price. As you can imagine, that can make a huge difference!

I'm also part of the way through the process, but I've been tracking how much it has cost us along the way and thought I'd share. Another thing to note about our case is that both Dave and I (the USC) live in the UK. Therefore, we did not/do not have to mail things back and forth before mailing them off to the US. We have all the documents here together and we can sign everything together before we send them off. And remember, we're only part of the way through the process....so we have lots more to pay!

Here you go:

Oh the Costs of Marrying a Foreigner
*All $ are in USD unless otherwise specified*
Passport Photos: £7 = $13.77
Mailing the I-129F to Georgia: £10.11 = $19.88
Mailing the I-129F to USCIS: $20
Processing Fee of I-129F: $170
UK Name and Background Check: £10 = $19.23
Fingerprint fee to City of London Police: £15 = $28.88
Processing fee to Australian Federal Police: AUD $103 = USD $79.98

Total in USD: $351.74
Total in AUD: $454.64
Total in GBP: £182.11

Feeling when we finally get approved: Priceless

Keep in mind that's not including the BIG price coming up of £160 (or $397.99 AUD) for the medical...and even more for the vaccines! EEkS!
