Wife just finished her interview last week!

Befor her interview we searched for information
detailing what the process would be like and so
we looked here.

But this thread seems to be packed with other
than the interview process.

We would like to give input concerning my wife's
interview process but this don't seem like the
right place?

Can someone let us know where we can give
input on my wife's interview for other to
benefit???

Thanks!!!

I propose doing a one or more of the following:

* Post your wife's experience within this thread
* Create your own thread posting your wife's experience
* Provide a review of the Manila Embassy when you update your timeline

Cheers!!!

Hmm, I'm sure it was a "tongue in cheek" offer, Sheriff. How is Jhen? Is she working now?

Opo! She's assisting one of her friends who owns a few businesses until she's ready to start nursing school. At least, that's the plan for now... tongue.gif I can't tell you how many times folks have asked when is she going to be buntis.

Preparation for Adjusting to Life in the United States

HOME: Get a youtube.com account so she can watch Filipino shows/soap operas that she likes (if interested). Some folks get the Filipino Channel via cable/Direct TV/Whatever. Oh, you'll have to get deeply involved in showing her around the city and getting her out of the house. As Haole stated, if you have a home computer, be sure to have internet connection along with a webcam and microphone so that she can chat with friends and family back home and everywhere else. Consider setting up a webpage together so both of your families can share and review current events, pictures, and etc. Friendster is huge in the Philippines so have your significant other set-up an account to connect or reconnnect with friends and family.

FAMILY: If she has a Smart or Globe account, tell her to keep it active and check whether her family can eload her account. That way they can text her cheaply. Consider getting an international text package with your local carrier or do a cost analysis on having that versus loading the Smart or Globe account. In addition, if your family is close by, try to keep them engaged in communicating and social events with your wife.

COUPLES: Check here on VJ to see if any couples live in your area so that the wives can mingle and hopefully develope friendships. She might be shy about this so you will have to take the lead and make it happen.

HEALTH: Work out together. Talk walks together. Potentially obtain a gym membership for her or the both of you. If she likes intramual sports, check with the local parks and recreational centers for listings.

SHOPPING: Consider finding an Asian Market where she can gather known ingredients for those awesome Filipino dishes. Also consider finding some Filipino Restuarants in your area (if any exists).

SCHOOL: Another idea is for her to enroll in ESL classes, tech school, nursing school, or whatever (if she is interested).

VOLUNTEER: You might consider checking out volunteer work for her (if she is interested) at the hospital, library, schools, YMCA, and etc (well this is at least until she is able to work).

CLIMATE: Besides the summer months, the US is considerably colder than the Phil so consider purchasing some warmer clothes and shoes before or immediately after arriving in the US.

Cheers!!!

Hello Friends.... Just wanted to update that Mirasol got her EAD on 9/29/07 and applied for her first US job with Target the past Friday. She was called the next day to come in for an interview on Monday, 10/8. She did great and was given a conditional job offer on the spot at the interview. We were both so very happy as this was her first application and interview and it was a success. She had heard from friends that Target took 90 days to hire and others told her they were refused as they did not pass the "tests". She was so nervous and worried about being able to understand the interviewers if they spoke slang or too fast for her, but she did well and I am so very proud of her. GREAT JOB HONEYKO! heart.gif heart.gif heart.gif

We have our interview for AOS on 10/25/07 and are praying for a green card without any problems. Other than that, I have been off work for the past three weeks with a back injury and being sick with the bronchitis that's been going around here. Hopefully, I can be back to work this Sunday.

Hope all of you and your families are doing well. Good luck and God bless to all those with upcoming interviews and/or medical appointments. Be prepared, strong and confident and you can make it through.

Take care all!

Scott and Mirasol

Good deal on all counts... We love reading about your success stories... Cheers!!!

Ate Cora...

Hopefully the transition is going well. Things are going to be a bit slow because your independent go get'em lifestyle will slow down dramatically due to the limitations placed upon the beneficaries due to the immigration process. This is a great time to pick-up some old and new hobbies, consider volunteering, catch up with old friends and family, and/or just relax. Lots of people have not even submitted the I-693a and didn't have RFEs. Took it to the interview with them and didn't have problems.

We also did not submit an I-693A or a certified marriage license when we filed the AOS because we wanted to file right away. So, we anticipated receiving an RFE but we did not. However, we did take those items to the AOS interview, which the CO did ask for during the interview. I personally would not recommend filing without the paperwork being complete, with very few exceptions, because "theoretically" there should be no way for the AOS to be approved without an interview, unless an RFE is issued and the deficiencies in the submission are satisfied.

That's my five cents. Can someone please give me back my change?

Cheers!!!

Thank you everyone for the well-wishes! I am really excited!!! I do have a question though. I had my TD shots done today but instead of getting it from a Civil Surgeon and pay for it, my fiance and I went to City Health Department (for free). Now my question is, where can I have all my immunization records transferred to form I-693A (Supplemental)? I asked the nurse who gave me the shots and she said they can only transfer the TD shots I had but not the rest of the immunization I had at St. Lukes during the medical. Is that right? Where can I get this I-693A form? I searched for it at USCIS website and didn't find it but the Form I-693. Do I still have to go to a civil surgeon just for that form even though I already got the shots I need?

Thanks for the input and hope everything is well with you all!

--Mae

Mae...

Yes! I have only recommended going to a civil surgeon that is approved by the USCIS in order to have the DS-3025 (vaccination supplemental given to you by SLEC) along with your record of the TD shot transferred to the I-693A "Supplemental Immunization Record". All of the civil surgeons already have a copy of the I-693A in house and the beneficiary does not have provide a copy of the form. You can find the link to the civil surgeon locator in my wife's signature (a link to her profile is within my signature block). You might want to also check out the AOS Forms and Tips link within my wife's signature (review Tip #2).

Anyone know if there is any civil surgeon here in Oregon or Washington or Las Vegas that will only get me a Td vaccine and transfer it to I693A form...and not take me a full medical exam. I have called the what is listed on the USCIS civil surgeons ..and oh my they will not just take for one vaccine but the lady said "we take full medical exam ONLY"...gosh i already had it last May and it is valid for one year, right?
can anyone please help me if you had been to any clinic to the states i have mentioned above that does not take full medical exam?
Thank you very very very much.

yes i have made calls already but they tellin me to have my full medical exam. i want the one that will only get me a td shot and not the full medical exam again. huhuhuhu, i will make calls to washington or las vegas. but if anyone knows which civil surgeon that will only take me a Td shot and not full medical exam...please tell me:-) thank you very much. also...my fiance's an active US military...do they provide one for me...oh i'm out of context here. well i gotta talk to him about it when he calls me back(he's still in the warzone for a mission...soon he'll be home and i pray and hope for their safety home-coming)

Take the I-1485 AOS Application to the civil surgeon's office and show them page 4, on the left side, states, "If you are a K-1 fiancé(e) or K-2 dependent who had a medical examination within the past year as required for the nonimmigrant fiancé(e) visa, you only need to submit a vaccination supplement, not the entire medical report. You may include the vaccination supplement with your adjustment of status application." Don't worry, most civil surgeons are high on drugs  if they think that they can swindle VJ members in order to make a fast buck. They better think twice!

Hello

Got another question regarding DS-156 Form. Block 24 ask's "At what address will you stay in the US?"
Well I do not recieve mail at my physical address but at a PO BOX. I have been using the PO BOX on all references to my address in the past to ensure any mail would make it to me. This question implies a physical address. Should I put my physical address vice my mailing address?

Thanks

Got a few answers (this reminds me of imaskin because I always wanna write imatellin... hehehehe):

1. When is I-864 required?

The I-864 (Affidavit of Support) is required when submitting the I-485 (Adjustment of Status Application) for the Adjustment of Status (AOS) process and must be accomplished after the petitioner and beneficiary marry in the United States.

2. Can I already work if I already have SSN?

Absolutely NOT! Working prior to your AOS approval is prohibited and is grounds for deportation, per US Immigration Laws. Besides, a SSN is not even required to apply and/or complete the AOS process.

3. I understand that EAD is no longer required to apply for SSN but I can only have EAD during AOS. Am i right?

Yes! The EAD is issued during the AOS process and at no other time .

4. I need to know when can i exactly start working?

The beneficiary is permitted to work:

1. When the beneficiary's EAD application (I-765) is approved and the EAD Card has been received or
2. two, when the AOS is approved and the green card is received.

The Green Card "Permanant Residency Card" supercedes the EAD Card and Advance Parole permiting the now Permanant Resident to work and travel outside the United States.

Cheers!!!

by the way, kuya sheriff do you know the answer to my question....who will apply for my SSN me or my fiance? and he's still in the warzone in the first month that i will get to the states.
thank you.

Imaskin...

You may apply for the SSN. Your fiance does not have to be present for that... or you can wait until he arrives. Remember, if you want to have it done before applying for the AOS then you will have to do it at the least a month or more before the I-94 expires or they will not process your request for a SS Card until after your AOS is approved.

Cheers!!!
