PhilippinesGLOBE or SMART for ROAMING?
My wife just told me that you family can eload your Glode account. However, I know that Smart works out well because that's what my wife, her friends, and family back in the Phil uses. Good luck...

PhilippinesGLOBE or SMART for ROAMING?
My wife and here friends here in the states still use their SMART accounts with unlocked GSM phones and it works out just fine. I would say that it also depends on what carrier your family primarily uses. For my wife it's smart, but I would presume that globe works just fine also. Oh, you are going to need your family to load minutes into your account.

Cheers!!!

Sheriff Uling

p.s. With smart, my wife's family can eLoad minutes into her account. My last point of reference with my wife is that glode does not have that feature/function. I'll double check with her and update this post, if I am wrong.

PhilippinesLearning and Teaching Tagalog/Filipino/Pilipino
QUOTE (Sheriff Uling @ Aug 4 2008, 11:19 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
My wife is really helpful during my self study, but is not as helpful as I would like any other time. I will be fluent in Tagalog, but just not as fast as I would like. If anyone wants to help tutor me and give me helpful insight, I truly welcome it. I need to work on building my vocabulary, conjugating verbs, and constructing sentences.

QUESTION TO THE USCs: Does your wife really try to teach you Tagalog?

My wife will automatically speak Tagalog to other Filipinos, but not with me (not unless I engage her first - for the most part). She says it's because she wants to work on her English, which I don't understand because her English skills are just as good as mine. What she may not get is the slang and idioms simply because she's not originally from the States.

Anyway... Cheers!!!

Sheriff Uling

Language is the area where I see the most with the cultural barrier. As I stated in my earlier post, my wife will automatically speak Tagalog to other Filipinos, which of course includes those she does not know. So since I'm not Filipino, she doesn't deliberately go out of her way to help me with Tagalog when there are prime opportunities to help me grow and learn the language. It seems that others are experiencing the same thing... Hmmm... That's very curious! whistling.gif

Cheers!!!

QUOTE (Jabberwocky @ Jul 29 2008, 11:34 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I think it's really beneficial also to embrace your spouses culture reciprocally - enjoy their foods and their customs. smile.gif

Very true.

However, there are racial and cultural differences that are managed even if it's at a very low level in every interracial relationship. The fact the couples love and respect one another and have worked beyond those barriers doesn't mean that those lines don't exist. As individuals we deal with them everyday in our interactions with others who are foreign to us. It's just part of being in a multicultural and global society.

Overall, I say it's a good thing...

Cheers!!!

Sheriff Uling

p.s. I wish that this type of interaction and respect between people would have exited long ago such that I too could truly have a culture, language, and trackable lineage of my own.

Jimbobh58, your post violates the TOS, and since Gabrielle piggy-backed on your post with his repley, he's in violation also. So I have removed both of your posts. Promoting a paid product is a TOS violation. Instead of removing the thread, I've come up with a compromise because the concept is great and people can actually benefit from it.

Sheriff,

Can I make a suggestion, please? Could you devise a way that would enable us to post sub topics on the OT PI forum just like what they got on the general OT forum? Things should be very much easier to follow, and make comments to, if they are sorted by sub topics and not bundled in just 1 OT thread. Besides, we don't want to disrupt Roy and Daruma in their exchange of videos !! Just kidding, boys. jest.gif jest.gif jest.gif

Great suggestion! I'll have to see if the powers that be will allow that to happen, but I do like it a lot.
