Phil-Am K1 Information…

(K1 Introduction) - If you are just starting your K1 visa journey, please check out this information provided by the Department of State (DOS) on the K1 visa experience (CLICK HERE). I found this information very insightful when I first started. Please note that the “How to Apply for a Social Security Number Card” section is incorrect because K1 visa beneficiaries can only apply for a SSN card upon arriving into the United States.

(Case Status) - Once you have filed your case and recieved your case number, please register on the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) website using the Case Status Online Tool to receive emailed updates concerning your case (CLICK HERE)

(1). The National Visa Center (NVC) number is within my signature. NVC assigns your case number once your case is approved (NOA2). They also may perform a preliminary background check from what I’ve read then forwards your package/case to the Manila Embassy. This process usually takes anywhere from 14 – 30 days.

(2). Packet 4 (Manila Embassy) link is within my signature (acquired from the Manila Embassy website which gives directions on what documents are required by the beneficiary for the visa interview). The Manila Embassy number is within my signature. NOTE: If you dial 0 for the operator, ask for the Immigrant Visa Unit. The average interview is assigned approximately 100 – 150 days from the receipt of your package from the NVC.

(3).The Department of State (DOS) number is within my signature. After your case is approved (NOA2) and reaches the Manila Embassy, you may call DOS instead on the Manila Embassy to obtain status of your case and make inquiries concerning your interview date. NOTE: DOS has no direct participation in the K1 process.

(4). The Visa Interview Appointments website is within my signature. This is where you can check to see if a visa interview has been scheduled for your case. It is presumed that the website is now the substitution for the visa appointment worksheet/list the Manila Embassy used in the past.

(5). St. Luke’s Extension Clinic (SLEC) information is within my signature. SLEC is where the beneficiary goes to take the medical exam and vaccination. The process takes two days. Day 1 is the medical exam and Day 2 is the vaccination.

(6). The DELBROS website is within my signature. DELBROS is the company responsible for delivering the beneficiary’s Visa and POE information. The DELBROS delivery fee is paid subsequent to the beneficiary’s visa interview at the Manila Embassy. Per the Manila Embassy website, the current delivery fee/time is as follows:

* Metro Manila Areas, 135 Philippine Pesos, Delivered one (1) to three (3) business days after release of visaed passport to the courier
* Provincial Key Cities (ex. Cebu City, Davao City, etc.) 165 Philippine Pesos; Delivered three (3) to five (5) business days after release of visaed passport to the courier
* Outside Provincial Key Cities, (ex. Capiz, Leyte, Bukidnon, etc.), Cost depends on area/location, Delivered five (5) to seven (7) business days after release of visaed passport to the courier

NOTE: Per the DELBROS staff, the Manila Embassy can take as much as three (3) business days to release the visa and POE package, which is NOT included in the deliver times above.

(7). CFO Guidance and Counseling Seminars are held in Manila and Cebu, with the corresponding links within my signature. The beneficiary may attend whichever location is more convenient. "Per Republic Act 8239 and Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Order 28-94, Filipinos proceeding abroad as fiancé(e)s and spouses of foreign nationals are required to attend the CFO's guidance and counseling programs... " For more info (CLICK HERE). NOTE: As far as I know, this requirement is not stated within the K1 packet. However, the beneficiary can NOT travel without receiving the Guidance and Counseling Certificate and subsequent CFO stamp on the visa. Please check out this instructional information on the CFO experience (CLICK HERE) (Thx Sillygirl)

(8). The I-94 Arrival / Departure Form is within my signature. Foreigners (beneficiaries) complete the I-94 and the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer stamps the applicant’s arrival and departure portions at the Port of Entry (POE) when entering the States. You will need this for the Adjustment of Status process. NOTE: Even though it’s simple, I have supplied this so you will know what it looks like and what is required to be filled out.

Cheers!!!

What is this PRISM thing? ... Is that the seminar where they try to scare the beneficiary by saying to look out for spousal abuse, etc? Eg. the one that can only be done in Manila or Cebu? Or is this something else?

Zethris

You are absolutely correct. The Guidance and Counseling Seminars are administered by People's Reform Initiative for Social Mobilization Inc. (PRISM) in Manila and St. Mary Euphrasia Foundation-Center for Overseas Workers (SMEF-COW) in Cebu on behalf of the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO).

I do wonder why they focus on potential spousal abuse in addition to questioning relationships. No big thing! It’s just another added nuisance in the process to be checked off and completed. We began talking about it since most of us are trying to get it out of the way because the Guidance and Counseling Seminar is a pre-requisite in order to receive the CFO stamp on the beneficiary's visa permitting international travel.

Check out # 7 in my signature...

Jhen complete the Guidance and Counseling Seminar and received her certificate. Tomorrow she'll be heading back to Cabuyao from Manila. Next stop... the dreaded and highly anticipated visa interview on 14 Nov. YEAH!

BJZags - Jhen did not need a her passport and she didn't have it anyway... SLEC has it. They looked at her NBI clearance and took a copy of her SSS ID along with a copy of her BC. She said the experience there was fun. There is nothing like having to fulfill a requirement but to have fun while doing it is definitely a bonus. Was your fiancee there? Jhen did not remember hearing anyone call your fiancee's first name although she did talk to everyone there.

Cheers!!!

Just a quick question....must the DS-156 form be filled out online has i have heard?

Absolutely...

This is taken from the USE website...

Starting November 1, 2006, ALL nonimmigrant visa applicants must use the online Electronic Visa Application Form (EVAF) or DS-156 Form. The EVAF is free of charge, will speed up the processing of visas, and reduce waiting time. It is also easy to use because it is the same application form that is currently used, except it is online.

Handwritten or typed visa applications will no longer be accepted by the Nonimmigrant Visa Unit in Manila. If applicants do not have an EVAF on the day of their scheduled interview, they will have to reschedule their interview through the Call Center or through the VisaPoint™.

For more information on EVAF, please visit the Nonimmigrant Visa Applications Forms page.

BJZags - I just told my fiancee to look out for Jenalyn. She is not on the internet so she does not know what Jenalyn looks like but hopefully they will meet.

Sillygirl - You rock!!! I love the PRISM information...

...the web site, it says one of the requirments is a: "Duly completed guidance and counseling form". Is this something completed while at the interview, or must it be completed beforehand?

The beneficiary can obtain and "duly" complete the form upon arrival. That's not a problem... The forms are available on the CFO website but I'm torn between two forms so we completed them both. LOL! They are probably both incorrect or obsolete forms. LOL!

YnaYeBa0808 - FYI - The airlines do not allow handcuffs, whips, chains, shocking device, and certain bondage items on the plane, but you may take the rest. LOL! Have fun! :D

My baby is going to PRISM tomorrow.

What time is she going? Maybe my girl will see your girl and they can do some bonding over the frustrations of the immigration progress.

Thanks! She will arrive around 7am (Thu, Nov 9th). So there will be a long wait because the G&CS doesn't start until 10am but seating is limited per session. Funny that you mentioned the SSN because I have already printed out the regulations and highlighted the appropriate sections due to the problems that I've read from others members. The information is within the VJ guide section. I'll look up specifically where later. So, I'm prepared to fight if needs be, but it's a hit or miss whether any of us will have problems. Ignorance is bliss... LOL!!!

When my girl called CFO office to inquire about the seminar, a lady told her that she would have to go all the way to Quezon City to attend the seminar. But according to the web page, it says that PRISM also offers the seminar in Malate at the same times Mon-Fri. Is that correct, and the CFO secretary is dumber then a stump? Also, does anyone know if they require the passport as a peace of ID for the CFO seminar? Because after the medical, the passport will be in transit to the embassy.

Thanks.

The secretary is dumb and stupid, BUT I might be dumber (I'll explain later...) LOL! My baby is going to PRISM tomorrow. We do have one problem... LOL! She just took the medical exam so her passport is on it's way to the embassy, but we do have some very impressive copies of her passport (LOL), SSS ID, and other ID's. Wish us luck because I drop the ball on that... I guess it's sometimes better to be lucky than smart. So I'll be able to report if that was a problem by late this evening.

Cheers!!!

Sheriff Uling

p.s. - It's a shame that we can't really trust anyone in this process because we don't know what kinda information we'll receive cuz that freakin secretary essentially told you to go to Africa for the dahamn G&C Seminal. Gsssss!!!! Yes there are two different seminars but K1 fiance(e)s only take the Guidance and Conseling Session.

Total brain lapse here, I forget because of all the time that has passed since the IMBRA fiasco, do I need to send any passport photos of myself to my fiance for her interview outside of the one attached to the replica of the I-129F I made of the one I sent to the USCIS originally?

I am going to be sending everything today. I just want to make sure I have everything right.

NO! The petitioner is not required to supply any passport photos for the beneficiary's visa interview.

Keep answers short and to the point. Consuls do not like long and winding answers. I've heard them cut off people mid-sentence by saying, "just answer the question".

I had worked with my fiancée on that very thing because all they are doing is validating the basic information provided from the petition, the visa application, and evidence of relationship information supplied by the beneficiary. You can dazzle them with brilliance of baffle them with bullsh*t. LOL! :D That's what one of my old boss' used to say all the time. The only time I feel the beneficiary is free to pontificate is when and if the consular officer asks about your love story. Other than that, it's all about the K.I.S.S (keeping it sweet and simple). Of course, that's just my opinion and we have not been approved yet. So I could be way off base, but I have a gut feeling that I'm not. Cheers!!!

i have a question on the DS-157 for my fiance daughter. her father died before she was born. he is not listed on her birth certificate. where it asks for father's name. leave blank or put none?

I'm thinking that his name should be listed and a death certificate or decree should accompany your submission. Only Mary has been documented of having an immaculate conception. LOL! I'm just guessing... Does anyone know for sure?

I was in your shows a few weeks ago. Besides ensuring that your beloved is solid on your background and paperwork, you have now gone as far as you can go. If you don't have a hobby... get one because the psychological strain of dwelling on it is deadly. It will all be a distant memory soon enough.

To your continued success...

Jhen (Wilma) just called me about an hour ago from the bathroom (sneaking in a quick call so she could hear my voice and calm down... awwwww). My Baby completed all of the preliminary testing and was preparing for the medical exam (take it off... take it off... LOL!!!) I'm betting that she will be done in about an hour. I feel bad for her because all week she has to get up early and basically wait around to get things done. It's all about sacrafice... Right? I'm going to call SLEC and ask them to give her shoots in her puwet so it will be soar. That way I can have something to laugh about. LOL!!! (I'm just joking...) :D

Today, Jhen (Wilma) goes to SLEC for the medical exam.

You have day 1 of medical and day 2. What days of the week are for day 1 and what days for day 2? Or does it matter. Just show-up early as possible to be one of the first 100 in-line?

There are no assigned days of activity at SLEC (except they are closed on Sat and Sun... So no activity on those days... LOL). Day 1 is always the medical exam and day 2 is the vaccinations (not required for K1 visas but recommended since it's included in the medical exam fee). Early is better but not like the visa interview. If the beneficiary arrives between 6am - 7am, that will be fine (from what I've read). Cheers!!!

Today, Jhen (Wilma) goes to SLEC for the medical exam. My Baby keeps telling me that she wishes that I were administering the exams... LOL!!! Maybe that's TMI but it's still funny. Tomorrow she's is receiving the vaccination (of course). Then Thursday she’s off to PRISM for the Guidance and Counseling Session. Now all I can do is wait... I have now gone just about as far as I can go in terms of preparation and the rest is up to my beloved. My new role is psychological support because even in my relaxed state I can feel the anxiety deep within my body and spirit... and Jhen is feeling the exact same way. I'm sure that some psychologist would say the strain of this process is unhealthy because I know that I've lost about 4 years of my life stressin' over this... Cheers!!!

Can anyone please clarify this to me? What is this pre-interview thing? Im so confused

There is a pre-interview where the USE staff collects the evidence of identity and relationship then asks a few basic questions of the beneficiary before the information is passed to the consular officer. After the pre-interview the beneficiary meets the consular officer for the actual interview where their fate is decided. This all occurs on the day of the visa interview. Please checkout the inteview testimony in my signature.

Phil-Am K1 Information…

Pre NOA2

(K1 Introduction) - If you are just starting your K1 visa journey, please check out this information provided by the Department of State (DOS) on the K1 visa experience (CLICK HERE). I found this information very insightful when I first started. Please note that the “How to Apply for a Social Security Number Card” section is INCORRECT because K1 visa beneficiaries may ONLY apply for a SSN card upon arriving into the United States. Please also review VJ's K1 guide (CLICK HERE)

(Case Status) - Once you have filed your case and received your case number, please register on the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) website using the Case Status Online Tool to receive emailed updates concerning your case (CLICK HERE). NOTE: If you want emailed updates to multiple addresses then you must create multiple customer portfolio accounts. When your petition is approval (NOA2), this tool is of no further use to you until after the beneficiary arrives in the states, get’s married, applies for the Adjustment of Status (AOS), Employment Authorization Document, (EAD), and/or Advance Parole (AP) because this tool does not track the activity being performed at the National Visa Center (NVC) or the Manila Embassy.

Post NOA2

(1). The National Visa Center (NVC) number is within my signature. NVC assigns your case number once your case is approved (NOA2). They also may perform a preliminary background check from what I’ve read then forwards your package/case to the Manila Embassy. This process usually takes anywhere from 14 – 30 days.

(2). The Manila Embassy (USE) Packet 4, the phone number, a visa interview testimony, along with a sample Appointment Letter are within my signature block. NOTE: Packet 4 can be acquired from the Manila Embassy website which gives directions on what documents are required by the beneficiary for the visa interview. Starting 01 November 2006, ALL nonimmigrant visa applicants must use the online Electronic Visa Application Form (EVAF) to complete the DS-156 (Nonimmigrant Visa Application). To date, only the DS-156 has the barcode (on the first and last page) and is the ONLY form available online at http://evisaforms.state.gov. However, the USE is now including the form DS-156 with the barcodes as part of Packet 4. You may complete the DS-156K (Nonimmigrant Fiancé(e) Visa Application) and the DS-157 (Supplemental Nonimmigrant Visa Application) (this is the form the bank validates when you pay the visa application fee) and the I-134 (Affidavit of Support) via the computer, type-writer, or handwritten. See the Most Frequently Asked Questions for the K1 visa forms (CLICK HERE). If you need to call the Manila Embassy, dial 0 for the operator, and ask for the Immigrant Visa Unit. The average interview appointment is assigned approximately 100 – 150 days from the receipt of your package from the NVC. Beneficiaries are now sent a letter of receipt from the USE once their physical files are received. However, this is NOT Packet 3 because the Manila Embassy ONLY issues Packet 4, and the letter of receipt is not always sent to the beneficiaries. Please also check out this instructional visa interview information (CLICK HERE) (Thx Sillygirl)

(4). The Visa Interview Appointments website is within my signature (the beneficiary's interview appointment and medical exam will be scheduled by the USE). NOTE: Please do NOT press enter after the case number is entered because that will not yield a result. Please click on the "Check Appointment" tab. If the appointments have been scheduled, the following will be available: Case Number, Visa Classification, St. Luke’s appointment Date, and Embassy Appointment Date, but if the appointments are NOT scheduled yet, the result will be "Case Number Not Found on Appointment List."

(5). St. Luke’s Extension Clinic (SLEC) information is within my signature. SLEC is where the beneficiary goes to take the medical exam and vaccination. The process takes two days: Day 1 is the medical exam (the beneficiary's passport will be taken and sent to the USE along with the medical exam results) and; Day 2 is the vaccination (the beneficiary will be given the x-ray film and the vaccination worksheet/record). NOTE: If the Manila Embassy does not mail the beneficiary the K1 Visa Packet and Appointment Letter, then call SLEC to arrange to pick them up at SLEC. Be advised, the beneficiary's medical exam will be scheduled one week before the visa interview by the USE. Per the Manila Embassy Thread, we recommend that the beneficiary takes the medical exam anywhere from 2 weeks to a month before the interview to ensure the results are available for the Consular Officer and to prepare in the unfortunate event of unfavorable medical results. The beneficiary may reschedule the appointment with SLEC or walk-in with the appointment letter and/or NOA2 (don't forget to bring the passport and medical exam fee).

(7). Beneficiaries are required to attend a CFO Guidance and Counseling Seminar that are held in Manila and Cebu, whichever is more convenient, before traveling abroad (the corresponding links within my signature). " For more info (CLICK HERE). NOTE: The CFO Guidance and Couseling Seminar is not stated as a requirement within the Packet 4 instructions. However, this CFO requirement for K1 visa holders is sent to the beneficiary with the visa delivery. Moreover, the beneficiary can NOT travel abroad without receiving the Guidance and Counseling Certificate, which is issued at the completion of the seminar, and subsequent CFO sticker, for which the beneficiary will have to return to the CFO upon the receipt of the visa. Foreigners (beneficiaries) complete the I-94 and the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer stamps the applicant’s visa and the arrival and departure portions of the I-94 at the Port of Entry (POE) when entering the States. The CBP Officer will keep the arrival portion and staple the departure portion of the I-94 to your visa where they stamped the beneficiaries arrival date. Just wondering if its possible to do the medical at ST.Lukes in 1 day being as my fiancee has already her shots and the med appointment is on friday........Just trying to avoid her having to go back on the following monday if thats the normal procedure.

She wasnt really wanting to spend a weekend there in manila at a hotel with the baby if she can avoid it.

Also if she declines to get any shots needed and gets them when she is in the states if that can make a differance for the 2nd day.

Unfortunately, even if the beneficiary postpones the vacinnations until arrival into the US, returning for day two in unavoidable. The beneficiary has to picks up the X-ray on day 2. However, you can call SLEC and see if something can be worked out, but with this process. I doubt it, but it does not hurt to try. Cheers!

for the question #11 in affidavit of support I answered N/A (K1 VISA PROCESS FOR PERMANENT RESIDENCE) SUPPORT FOR DURATION OF LIFE

hope it's acceptable because Zane get so nervous over little things. They just finished the medical exam today and it went fine for her and our son Zeahne. I am hoping that interview will go fine for them.

Lastly, is there anyone here know a cheaper way to send money for ticket? (except western union)

Thanks a lot

Yes xoom.com check it out. The problem with buying an online eticket for her is that usually one needs to present the CC used to purchase the ticket at the airline check in counter.

I also sent my wife a copy of the handwritten ticket from the ticketing office along with a copy of the receipt in which she did use at the check in counter at the airport.
