K3_IR - I have also read that 3 passport photos are required for SLEC... So I told my fiancee to take 6 just in case. LOL!!! It's always better to have more than less. Can anyone that recently had their medical exam let us know the real deal? Cheers!!!

p.s. - Yeah! It's November!!! I'm as happy as the little boy bouncing in my avatar.

I paid $574 for a one-way flight via PAL. Don't forget about the Phil Travel Tax of $1,620PHP and the Airport Fee of about $550PHP that are collected at MNL. Yikes! Why don't they just take my wallet at the airport with the freakin extra fees. Goodness!!! LOL!!! They just make up taxes and fees. LOL!!!

BJZags - The DS-230 is not required for the K1 Visa applicants but it's required for all other non-immigrant visas (if I'm not mistaken). To reiterate, the DS-230 is not required for the K1 Visa. I used to think the same think because everywhere you look the DS-230 is mentioned.

...Uling, did you book online or call PAL reservations to book flight?

I personally went to the PAL LA Ticketing Office...

...If success was up to God only, then I would still have it too, but when my fate is left up to the devices of mere mortals, I tend to see the glass half-empty. In regards to your ticket, what agency or web-site did you book through? ...

I purchased the ticket directly from the Philippine Airlines... and cut out the middleperson. However the prices are still virtually the same as when I purchased her's in Sept. I'm with you on the mere mortals thing and it's a very intimidating situation we are all trapped in, which is why I'm betting that YYB is going to passout. LOL!!! I'm going to step out there and proclaim that we will all be approved. There I wrote... November is the official Visa Pick-up Approval Month so get your dancing shoes. Cheers!!!

Not meaning to be negative, but due to your own admitted uncertainty because our "fate" lies in the subjective and often retarded judgment of a CO, why did you decide to go ahead a book a flight for your girl before her visa is in hand? While I too am confident that our paperwork is perfect, I cannot bring myself to pre-purchase the "freedom ride." I suppose that I'm so used to being passed-over by the "system" or being lost in the shuffle of life that I don't want to tempt fate. Also, I am being very careful about getting our hopes up for the Dec. 5 interview. While it "should" be fine, if I tell her it is a slam-dunk, an AR would just crush her (and me).

Why don't you just kick me in ang mga bayag ko!!! It would hurt less than you busting my bubble… LOL!!! I'm just joking. I purchased the ticket because the flight was cheap, I was afraid the price would skyrocket, it's refundable, and the re-booking fee is a marginal cost. Life is full of risks and uncertainties and sometimes we step out on a wing and a prayer hoping to land softly if we fall (or at least minimize the risks if we do). I walk by faith that my desires will be met and surpassed with his grace and mercy. Please forgive my bad humor in the first two lines... I'm not perfect. LOL!!!

I am probably in the same boat as the majority of you because I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that all of our paperwork and back-up documentation are in order and we are ready for the consular officer. BUT WHY is there still a looming shadow of uncertainty. I would call it doubt but it’s not that… it’s the uncertainty of the unknown due to an extremely subjective process with an extreme amount of responsibility and latitude granted to the decision maker (Consular Officer). I wish that so many before us and in the midst of us would not have tainted the system forcing us into this time-consuming over-validated bottlenecked and subjective process. It may be necessary but I’m still a tad bit frustrated in having to validate my life and love before our lives together can truly blossom. The only great part is that we share in an experience that has truly given me a deeper appreciation for being in love and finally finding the one in which I have been destined to marry. It’s a shame that so many earnest couples have been prolonged in their quest to be begin their lives together. I just wanted to share my thoughts. Cheers!!!

YYB – Rumor has it that you passed out at the nail shop when the lady cute to deep into your cuticle. LOL!

windchaser_4 – Glad to see things are moving along. I’m really happy for you.

roymcn3rd – Sure you can get in on the action. We’re betting on when and if YnaYeBa080 will pass out. LOL!

Here’s are the odds (like craps).

Passes out before leaving for the Phil 15 to 1
Passes out in the USE before the interview 7 to 1
Passes out during the interview 2 to 1
Passes out after the Consular Officer approves the visa 1 to 1
Passes out after leaving the Phil 30 to 1
Does NOT pass out is craps… We lose!

NOTE - We can make multiple bets... LOL!

PW – If you would have asked me back in Jul/Aug the answer would have been yes, but my fiancée has convinced me that she will be ok. And considering how things are going with approvals… my mind is somewhat at ease, but it's my body that's going haywire (LOL!)

Unfortunately there are no real guidelines besides the unwritten one which is to have some sort of tangible proof that validates a continues relationship over time. One or two chats from each month should be sufficient. Break a leg... Cheers.

One big problem I see there is that they have a holiday about once per week.

I'm actually a tab bit worried about that myself. I'll just do what I can and pray. God gives you what you need, not always what you want, and the rest is up to you. Someone told me that once. DHL must be cutting corners to make more money from the fee they're paid to deliver the package. DHL called my Fiance, asked her to come to their office to pick up her package. they said didn't have her address. she was at her office in downtown Davao. she asked if they would deliver it there. they said couldn't do it. so, she went to the DHL Office to pick it up and gee, guess what, her correct home address was on the package. remember earlier in this thread someone said they were asked 1000p to have it delivered to their home or to come to their office to pick it up. hope others aren't having similar experiences.

They (DHL) also called my fiancee and the delivery man asked if they could meet at McDonalds, which is about two minutes from her place. Ironically she was across the street from McDonalds chatting with me. So she told him yes and he called her back when he arrived there. So, it would be safe assessment that they may be cutting corners here and there to save time (and possibly money). What can you expect... all of my Pinoy friends and officemates always complain about how crocked people are in the Phil. I still love it there!!! LOL!

Sillygirl,

we also have the same query with Dave and Flory, regarding the visa..you picked up your visa at the USE, right? how did you do it? you didn't go through delbros? You got approved October 4 and picked it up Oct. 6. And that was fast, you picked it up after 2 days.

Godbless,
(F)

According to Delbros, they will not allow you to pick it up the visa from them. Therefore you must make the request to pick up the visa from the Consular Officer who (if they are nice :P ) will give you a pick up slip to return to the Embassy and obtain your visa.

Luz and I stayed at the Lotus Garden on my first trip there. It's OK and within a 10 minute walk to the embassy. You might also check out the Best Western Hotel La Corona hotel that is close also. $60/night and I like it much better.

I read recommendations on Bayview since it's across from the Manila Embassy, and I have also read that Best Western is pretty cool as well. Cheers!!!

Thanks for bringing this to my attention and others attention. I did not have a clue about this. I hope they mention it in the packet they send so others are not caught off guard.

I have also been wondering if and when are they going to update Packet 4 to identify this new policy. Especially since they "claim" that the beneficiary will be required to reschedule the interview without having completed the DS-156 eform with the barcode. Thank God for this website and I feel really sorry for those who do not have a support group or informed immigration lawyer. I will continue to check the Packet 4 that is available through the Manila Embassy website to see if they make this update. Please keep us informed on whether your Packet 4 indicates that you must complete the DS-156 online. Oh, if the Packet 4 that you receive does not indicate that you must complete the eform for the DS-156. I suggest that you do it anyway. Better safe than sorry! Cheers!!!

Thanks, is it your interpretation that those who started out written, need to switch over to electronic for the final forms like the 156 and I believe the 134?

You missed my post right below the one you quoted. I inadvertantly put DS-157 but it should read DS-156 for Post #2029. The DS-156 is the only "eform" that we must fill out online at this website (CLICK HERE). The DS-156K and DS-157 are NOT currently Electronic Visa Application Forms! Cheers!!!

I am really confused. How does one sign this electronic form...

There is not an electronic signature. Your John or Jan Hancock is still required. By the by, the bad thing about the electronic form is that if you make a mistake once you have completed the form, then you must go back to the weblink and complete the form AGAIN. Have fun!!! Cheers!!!

Just a friendly reminder (excerpt from the Manila Embassy website)...

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

Transition to the Electronic Visa Application Form (EVAF)

Starting November 1, 2006, ALL nonimmigrant visa applicants must use the online Electronic Visa Application Form (EVAF). The EVAF is free of charge, will speed up the processing of visas, and reduce waiting time. It is also easy to use because it is the same application form that is currently used, except it is online.

Handwritten or typed visa applications will no longer be accepted by the Nonimmigrant Visa Unit in Manila. If applicants do not have an EVAF on the day of their scheduled interview, they will have to reschedule their interview through the Call Center or through the VisaPoint™.

Guide to Completing the DS-157 Online Form (excerpt from the Manila Embassy Website)

Items 1, 3-5 - Must contain the applicant’s passport number, issuing country, and issuance and expiration dates, as shown exactly in the applicant’s passport. (For applicants whose passports were issued in Manila, please leave “Country” and “State/Province” fields blank in Item 2.)

Item 6 - Must contain the surname(s) of the applicant as written on the applicant’s passport.

Item 7 - Must contain the first name(s) AND middle name of the applicant as written on the applicant’s passport.

Items 8-9 - Are only for other names or aliases of the applicant.

Item 15 - Should include the address of the applicant’s permanent local address.

Item 17 - Female applicants with legally terminated or annulled marriage must tick Single (Never Married). However, they must explain to the interviewing officer the history of their previous marriage.

Item 20 - Should include the name of the applicant’s current company/institution, and not the name of the applicant’s supervisor, unless the applicant is self-employed or works as a personal employee. For business owners, please specify registered business name.

Items 24-25 - Require the complete information where the applicant will stay in the United States.

Items 30-31 - Must contain information about each U.S. visa issued and each visa refused, including tourist and other types of visas.

Item 37 - Must contain the status of the applicant’s relative(s) in the United States, i.e. legal permanent resident or American citizen.

Item 38 - Must be completed personally by the applicant.

Cheers!!!

...Either use one of the immigrant visa section extensions or ask to be connected to the immigrant visa section.

Eksakto! It appears that the only extension for the Immigrant Visa Unit is 5184, or dial 0 for the operator and ask for the Immigrant Visa Unit. The extension 5185 takes you the Social Security "department" and sometimes the operator transfers you there (LOL)!!! In my experience, if you call in between 7:30am - 7:45am then you should not have a problem catching someone in the Immigrant Visa Unit. Of course, you may have to call back a few times or continue to let the phone ring until someone answers. If you call anytime after 8:00am then you will be lucky if you catch someone in the Immigrant Visa Unit because they are constantly on the phone ALL DAY... EVERYDAY...
