I am pretty sure most Canadian provinces you can just trade in your drivers license from the States & get a Canadian one!  No fair.  Kinda good though since we plan on moving back to Canada at some point, I'd be mad if I had to take a THIRD road test!  (Wouldn't feel bad if my husband had to, hahaha, since I have to for his homeland!)  I just got back from mine..passed, yay!  Made me do everything though :(  parallel park, 3 point turn, u-turn, park on a hill, reverse like 50 feet.  Not sure how it compares to the Cali road test.  Glad to have it done...now I am legally on the roads haha.  It expires next year though, once I get my greenvcard I have to go in again and then it lasts 2 years..then when I get my 10 year green card have to go in again!

Whoops! Sorry for the lack of updates :D Went back to this thread and realized I didn't let you know how it went.

Tip 1 - ALWAYS schedule an appointment. It really boggles my mind the amount of people waiting in line with no appointment. It took me about an hour or so from start to finish. Those who don't have an appointment end up waiting 2 hours or so on top!

I get in and there was rarely a line for appointments. I finished my paperwork and took my number. Within less than 5 minutes, I was called to a window. They took all my paperwork and info and gave me another form. I stood in line again to get my photos taken. Then I stood in line again to do the written exam. The written exam is all electronic now. It was pretty straight forward, however like others have said the wording is all tricky. They ask similar questions to those in the sample tests in the handbook and online test, but a bit differently.

All in all it wasn't so bad. I finished my written portion and now im off to do my road test. I was told that I could do my road test in a few weeks since my EAD and AP should be approved (crossing fingers) then. I have a permit right now... so hopefully I get it all done by end of Sept. I did my biometrics on Monday... so holding my breath.

Congrats!  I was glad I had scheduled an appointment as well, I was in and out pretty quick while everyone else had to wait.  I was also glad it was open book, I guess if you've had a license before they give you the book to do it here in Utah!

I have my road test on Tuesday...I am not looking forward to it!  I went to the DMV a couple times to practice parallel parking in the little spot they have with the cones..I swear it is as small as they could possibly make it!  Good thing our car is small!  So I am worried about screwing up with that. I am pretty sure I have to do a 3 point turn as well...never had to do that at home either..seems easy enough.  Hope I pass so I can forget about it.

I'm going through the same thing except in Utah, I need to get a Utah licence asap because my husband's insurance won't add me until I have a Utah one.  I've been putting it off...the thought of having to take another road test stresses me out.  I have had my licence for almost 8 years and a spotless record as well.  My brother who lives in Utah as well just got a Utah licence a couple months ago and had to take a written test and a road test, but I know every state is different.  I haven't asked him if it was a full road test though.  Hopefully not!  I never had to do parallel parking in my road test back home and I would probably fail if I had to now!  We have plans to at least get the written one done next Wednesday when my husband is off (probably wouldn't look good if I showed up driving myself!).  I wish we could just trade in our Canada licence and they would give us a state one!

CanadaOrdering Canadian Food Products Online

if you have a world market in the area ( a few of them in Chicago) you can get Canadian stuff there too, 2$ a chocolate bar.

Just googled one and there is one near Salt Lake!  Ahh so going there when we are down there!

I made nanaimo bars and took them to a camping trip with my husbands family & extended family, they all LOVED them, I took tons and they all wanted seconds.  I'm like....yes that is what you are missing out on here.  I showed my coworkers a picture of poutine, none of them have even been to Canada, and they were like ..ew.. and I was like no you have no idea how delish it is.  There is a nearby little food place that sells it..it sucks..they use cheddar cheese curds that taste terrible.  I made it better myself with havarti cheese cut up.  I really miss Loblaws & Presidents Choice products.  I need to stock up on stuff when we go home for Christmas.  Lots I won't be able to take back..but I will take what I can!  I used to save up so many points with them, and none of the stores here have any programs as good.

CanadaQuestions regarding Medical Exam and Interview in Montreal

I'm from Nova Scotia too! :)

From what I've read the most common thing is to go for Montreal for approximately a week (to make sure you get the results in time), have the medical first and have a few days in between then have the interview.  So you would wait until you get the interview date then call the medical office & tell them your interview date so they can schedule the medical ahead of time.

I wish there was a place in Halifax to get it done!  Would make it so much easier to just go to Montreal for the interview!

CanadaUS border
A month ago I tried to cross the border from canada to US to visit my fiancé and establish proof of our relationship I was denied entry. They were suspicious about me returning to Canada because I had no return ticket and I was unemployed. They said I needed to establish myself in Canada before I can enter the US. I now have a job and I was paying rent before just didn't bring any proof.

I would like to visit the US in maybe two months and use bank statements, rent receipts, paycheck stubs, a letter from my employer, a return ticket of course, and the fact that I have family in Canada as prove that I'm returning. In your opinion would the US border let me enter?
