We can apply for EI??  That is good news!!  I never knew that!

Yeah when I went in May, I said I was visiting my brother (he goes to school in Utah), & I wasn't lying..I WAS going to be visiting him at some point!  It just sounded better than 'I'm visiting my boyfriend', and I was lucky enough to get a really nice customs man & had no troubles.  I just know I will get super stressed out because I can't just say that next time haha.  He is coming to visit me in August, I am thinking of going in October but I'm not sure yet..it's expensive to fly there & with having to go to Montreal not too long (hopefully!) after that..we will see!

Haha I was JUST coming on here to ask if anyone was planning on trying to visit the US while their application is pending, and it talks about it right on that page.

I'm unsure yet whether I will try... I was scared enough going through customs when I went to visit in May before we even sent the petition!

Hopefully the family will get used to it after awhile & accept it!  That's what I'm hoping. :)

Ahh, how I wish Salt Lake was only a day away from me!

Also, it's okay to rant here, this is a great place to do that!  I have some family members who aren't impressed about the idea of me moving so far away.. they think I should stay here where my family is.  But that's not always the way life works!  I tried the whole local guy thing, never worked out for me.  I guess American guys are the way to go eh?! :P

CUTE! Love her!!! That is crazzyy expensive for her to fly!!

We will be just north of Salt Lake City, that's where he's going to school.  The original plan was for him to move to Alberta to go to school there (I had plans to move out west before this happened:P), then we discovered how much more expensive tuition is for an international student! So, this is what works out best for us.  I'm hoping AOS doesn't take super long.. I am going to go crazy sitting around not being able to work!

I hear that.

His other "Canadian Girl" (aka, my dog) will be happy when we're all together as well, I think.  Poor girl, she's stressed a bit with all the changes going on around the house (selling - we'll dissapear when the house is showing and she'll be sniffing and looking at me funny when we get back...mommy do you know SOMEONE ELSE WAS IN HERE?!?!?)

my little rescue mutt (okay, I say little....50-60 lbs of CRAZYDOG) has never ever taken to ANYONE as quickly as she took to him.  Was kind of funny really.

Awwwe cute!!  I will have to leave my boy home with my parents until we get settled :(, & eventually find a dog friendly place.  They are thinking of either driving him to me (LONGG drive!) or meeting half way :) I will be eager to get him to me!  I reallyyy want to avoid flying him!

We are just having a small wedding but will be having a simple reception afterwards, so will have to send out invites for those!  We will set a 'date' when I know when my interview is, and just let people know it is only if all goes well!  It will mostly be all his family and friends anyway...my parents and siblings and a few friends I know from there..that is it!

You guys are all way ahead of us!  I only met him last February, we went on our first date in October when I was down there for a visit, never really made things official for awhile after that because he lived so far away.. we were both unsure about the distance thing, but then we both decided it is worth it and why wait when we know it is right?? :)

I totally understand what you mean! People keep asking me when the wedding date is too & when I answer "not sure yet" they always give me a confused look. Then I'm forced to go into the whole fiance visa petition thing, which nobody understands anyway! Lol.. . Nothing about this process is easy.. smile.png

Haha exactly!  Everyone thinks I must be moving right now, then I try to explain the whole interview thing, and that we have to get married within 90 days, etc etc.. and they are like.. it's only the States.. they don't understand that it's just the way it works!

Haha ohhh yess I know about all the other stuff... just the sooner we get our NOA2..the sooner we can get the rest over with!  & I can't waiit to have it all done with so I can have a wedding...it is so hard planning a wedding when you don't have a date yet!  People keep asking me 'when is the date??' and don't really seem to understand when I say... well we don't know yet..

That sounds good!  Let's do that!  Anything to get everything ready ahead of time! :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion 18 on I-129F
I was wondering about the same thing!
Also, I thought the letter of intent was just stating that you are willing and able to marry that person within the 90 days after they enter into the US? I wasn't aware you provided details of your meeting in that letter?
Also, for question 18 in the area underneath would you just say something like 'see attachment', or what is the proper thing to put when you attach a sheet?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresGathering of paper work

You don't need tax returns or any letter from your employer until after your petition is approved.  As for the evidence those are all good things.  We included pictures from each visit, passport stamps (photocopies) from each visit, boarding passes (photocopies), & a couple credit card statements from each one of us showing we were in the same place at the same time.  I didn't send any skype or phone bills, as it only asks for proof you MET in the last 2 years.  Although a lot of people do 'front load' the petition, which is a good idea, depending on where the country is your fiance is from :)  Like was suggested, you should read the guide for the K1 visa..it will tell you everything you need to do.

kc247FemaleCanada2013-06-12 15:26:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresEvidence of engagement

I don't think you need to prove that you are 'engaged', just that you have met within the last 2 years.  I have heard of some people sending the papers before they are 'officially' engaged.  I never sent any evidence to being engaged, even though we were at the time, I guess we sent a picture we took when we got engaged where you can see my ring on my hand, but that's it and no one would notice unless they are paying attention to that.  So I wouldn't worry about it :) Other evidence is more important, like people already suggested.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFiance Visa, fb paper overload/ printer explosion!!?!?!?!?

We only sent in proof of meeting.  No fb or skype chats.  We will print those off for the interview (just incase), but didn't bother 'front loading' the application.  Some countries they say this is better for, but being from Canada we didn't feel it was necessary.  I'm not sure what is recommended for Algeria.. but I definitely wouldn't overload on it.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresLetters of consent

No you don't need letters of consent from parents if you are under 25.  My fiance is 22 and I am 23 and we needed nothing like that.  Just letters of intent from each other like shown above.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow to set a wedding date (during a K-1 process)?

Lots of people say not to until the visa is in your hands.  We are setting a date a few weeks after the interview, because chances are everything will go fine.  But we aren't having a big fancy wedding.  We aren't renting a place or anything so if it can't be that date, it isn't a huge deal.  We will be sending out invites though, but everyone will know there is a slight change that date could change, and we will let them know if it does.  :)  So, do whatever you want just remember there IS a chance something could go wrong.  But I would definitely wait until you have an interview date.

My fiance's father is our co sponsor.  On #3 for 'This affidavit is executed on behalf of the following person:' is says, 'what is your relationship to the sponsor?' he put 'future daughter in law', which is wrong of course, since my fiance is the sponsor..right? Or is it him since he is filling out that form?  Should he send me a new one? My interview is in 4 weeks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresYes, you can visit!

A lot of these are about people visiting the US, but I just thought I'd add that my fiance just visited me last week from the US to Canada & he had zero troubles.  He even took my wedding dress I had ordered with him and had no problems with that.  He said the guy was really nice & only asked a couple questions, didn't ask anything about the visa.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhen do you hand in proof of relationship ?

I dont know personally I would not bother with a paternity test, but if you want to include it thats fine, it is just not conventional evidence
I know what you are saying about the direct link, but what the adjudicator is looking for is proof of being in the same area at the same time so your bank statements should be fine, maybe include a picture or two also
one thing for you to keep in mind, Canada is a relatively easy consulate so dont make your self too crazy over this all

Alright that makes me feel better that my local consulate is easy. But I need more confirmation about how exactly my bank statements prove that we were in the same place. Would the fact that we were baby shopping and the purchase of the bus ticket be good enough proof? Maybe I'm over thinking it but its not like we had a joint bank account.

Also, I understand that we need prove that we've been communicating by phone or email for a certain amount of time. How long would be a sufficient amount of time?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhen do you hand in proof of relationship ?

ok sorry if this comes off as a tad dense on my part, but how is it possible you do not have any bills or credit card statements??? your debt card comes with a statement too of withdrawals and transactions...
In order to have a successful petition you need some form of primary proof that you were together
this can be plane tickets, passport stamps, a bill or receipt showing location

you can also include pictures, these are, however, secondary proof as there is no date to them

maybe you have taken a mutual trip together somewhere?

On another note, it does not really matter where you live as long as it is a real place

let me know if there is anything else I can help you with

I thought the paternity test would be sufficient proof because we did make a baby together within the past year. I do have bank statements from my bank account from the time that we spent together but I don't exactly see how that proves anything without a direct link to her.

I also have a bank statement from when I bought a ticket for her to get back to the USA. Unfortunately I don't have any receipts or tickets as direct proof. So I'm not sure how much that would help.

By the way thank you for all your help. I really appreciate it.

BrettsonNot TellingCanada2013-03-17 21:36:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhen do you hand in proof of relationship ?

Are you in the process of gathering the paperwork to submit you petition? For the petition all that is required is proff that you have met in the past 2 years. For this visa stamps or plane tickets would suffice. If you want to include, note that it is completely optional, and not necessary for the easier consulates to include proff of ongoing relationship, then you can include a sampling of emails or phone logs. Just make sure to include proff of meeting.

Yeah, we are in the process of gathering paperwork to submit our petitions. We met when my fiancé was living in Canada then she moved to the USA where she's originally from so that means no plane tickets or passport stamps. We have a baby together so we're planning on using a paternity test as proof that we met in person in the last two years. So we would send in the proof of us meeting when we send in the petition?
