CanadaAppointment help!!!

The nurse was taking appointments for when he comes back. The trick is to make sure he has all the updates shots that are required for his age. If not, they will make him come back and pay all over again presumably and you'll be behind and have to re-schedule your interview - so make sure no mistakes ;-)

Yeah, we'll make sure he's on top of it :) I just want my fiance here already!

CanadaAppointment help!!!

Not sure where your fiancee is, but I'm going to go to Ian Zatzman here in the Toronto area. I found out they book for about a month ahead of when you call, but he's going to be on Vacation until the 8th of January, so you may want to plan accordingly. I also found out by the nurse I talked to that I need a booster shot for tetanus and purtusses (my spelling sucks) and that it has to be done within a month of the appointment, which seems stupid since I regularly cross the border anyhow.

So, what I'm going to do is in January, book my medical for February and an appointment with my own doctor for the booster a week before. I also had to get a new police certificate as mine will expire in Februrary and I'll need a new one for March. For anyone interested, previously I went with Red Seal Notary in Mississauga but they have since closed as I found out by the locked door and empty building. It would have been helpful if they had noted that on their website. Instead I went to the Commissionaires and got everything done there for about the same price.

I figure I'll keep the date and not try for earlier as this will help me make some more last minute money from work and get my stuff in order like finding a moving company, manufacturers letter for my car, etc..

Okay, I'll have Brian call again. Are they still taking appointments when he's on vacation? If not, we have to look into a different doctor. (I realize you may not know these answers, just thinking out loud :P)

He's nervous about how close the date is, but I figure it's better to have the interview and then take our time getting him to the States. For once, we may have control of our life! It's the real American dream :P

Wow you leapfrogged me. Dont forget to call and make an apointment with a US immigration doctor. I did that today and found out I need a booster shot.

I sent Brian all of the medical information, so I'm hoping he gets that done soon. Fingers crossed they'll be able to squeeze us in on such short notice. Which doctor are you going through?

My apologies! I wasn't thinking this morning and didn't check the type of visa.

Canadamedical exam

You also want the medical to be as close to the interview as possible. The validity of the visa is from the medical, not the interview. It will also makes things easier for when you start the Adjustment of Status (AOS) because the medical is valid for a year. If you apply within a year, you can use the same results instead of paying for a new one.

CanadaPacket 3 question. Confused. :S

I commented this on your other post, but I figured it would be helpful to have it altogether. It's also good to know that everything gets emailed to Montreal now, not mailed in.

They've updated packet 3 within the past few months, but I'm not sure if the VJ guides have been updated. Here's the updated version of everything you need : http://photos.state....ket3-K1-MTL.pdf

You don't have to send in anything on the checklist, all of that is brought to the interview. Emailing packet 3 took a few of us approximately a month (including Thanksgiving), so be patient.

CanadaMontreal train station

Okay the 747 doesn't go to the train station... It goes downtown.    You buy the tickets at the arrivals section, there are bunch of orange signs.   $9 for one trip and like $18 for 3 days.  (which you can also use on the metro)

What I would do is decide WHERE you are staying.  Then decide how far to take the bus.  Here are the stops and sometimes you have to walk a block to two to get to your hotel but it's better to walk a block, IMHO, than take a cab that costs $40 for the same time to travel.  The bus does not go all the way to the consulate, and the train is a block or so off Rene Levesque Blvd.   Meet at your hotel.

I stayed at the best western on rue Drummond and it was very nice, even for the tiny room I had.  But I had to stay a week and was looking for a deal.  An expensive hotel may be nice for a night.  smile.png

Also I don't speak a lick of french and managed my way around downtown Montreal for a week.  You'll be fine. biggrin.png  Downtown is probably the easiest area on non-francophones.

OH forgot to add.. here is the list of stops for the bus going towards downtown.  It's like a normal bus and doesn't stop at each one unless you tell it to so pay attention to where you are.  http://www.stm.info/...e/line-747-east

We decided on Le Phillip. We'll have to take a look at the bus schedules to figure it all out, but thank you for the help!

CanadaMontreal train station

Remember, Canada is an old Indian word that means rip off ;-)

Plan accordingly.

Are you sure you're not confusing Canada with San Francisco?! :P

Now that I think about it, it's not too much more expensive than when I first started flying out May of 2012. We just stay at the same hotel every time, so we started getting discounts emailed to us, which helps out a lot. Since embracing that it'll be expensive regardless, my new mission is to convince the fiance that we should stay at Le Phillip ;-)

Thanks for the tips, all :)

I don't know which hotel we're staying at yet, bu we'll look into the shuttle. I looked into some of the hotels mentioned here on VJ, but they all seem pretty expensive. Is that how Montreal is or should we just keep checking sites like Expedia?

CanadaMontreal train station

Okay, good to know! I fly in Monday, and his interview isn't until Friday (any excuse for a mini vacation!), so we have time to get settled in. I'm just really nervous about navigating the city since I don't speak a lick of French. I know it's a bilingual city, but I'm a worry wart :P

Does the 747 go directly to the train station for us to meet up or should I look up the schedule for transfers and what not? And thank you!

CanadaMontreal train station

Hi all,

My fiance plans on taking the train in from Toronto, and I will be flying directly to Montreal. We're trying to piece together everything from the train website/Google maps, but neither of us have been to Montreal before. Which train station is closest to the airport, if there's more than one? Is the airport/train station close to the consulate, or should we expect to take a cab? We plan on staying at one of the close hotels mentioned in the consulate review, so there's at least one thing we don't have to worry about.

Thanks for the help!

CanadaNVC Stage

Packet 3 was mailed directly to my fiance's Canadian address. Ours went through CSC as well, and it was almost 2 months before it was even sent to the Montreal consulate. You can always call DOS while you're on vacation to see if you have been sent Packet 3 yet. Everything is through email now, and the entire packet is on their website, so you don't need the physical copy to proceed.

CanadaGetting to Montreal

Taking the early train from Toronto to Montreal was about 40 bucks for the date we looked at, so you can't beat that! It takes about 5-6 hours, but there's wifi on the train.

CanadaInterview rescheduled but not by us

SO, I finally heard back from Montreal, and they claim we do not have an interview scheduled at all... I was directed to the website to schedule an appointment where (shocker) we already had one. I emailed the usvisa-info email that was given to us to see if they can give us better answers. Supposedly, we were mailed Packet 4, but neither of us have received it, other than the email.

So frustrating!

CanadaInterview rescheduled but not by us

I should elaborate now that I'm a little less pissed.

The consulate rescheduled his interview for February 14 (a day that I can't get off work) without telling us. How can they keep rescheduling it?! I already bought a plane ticket and booked the hotel for the Feb 28th interview. In his panic, he accidentally cancelled the interview, and we're now booked for March 28th in hopes that something will open up.

Are we missing a step? Is there a reason they keep rescheduling us? Please, somebody, shed some light on what the hell is going on.

CanadaInterview rescheduled but not by us

Just being observational again, but I've noticed a few times in the forums where the people mentioned the consulate randomly closes to take care of some kind of official business. I bet this is what happened so they bumped your guy to the next day. If he was unauthorized to schedule (as an example, sounds like you guys got everything right) the system cancels you outright until you get packet 4.

By the way, I've gotten one official packet 4 and like 3 copy cat emails some poor guy has sent me in response to the emails I sent weeks ago.. lol

Yeah, that's what I was guessing too. I'm just glad they rebooked before I bought a plane ticket!

CanadaInterview rescheduled but not by us

Our interview was scheduled for Feb. 27 (we moved it back a month so he had a bit more time to prepare), but Brian got an email today saying it was successfully rescheduled for Feb 28th. Obviously this is fine because it's only a day apart, but should we be concerned? I definitely don't want this to happen again considering I'm buying a plane ticket this weekend.

CanadaMontreal P4 Procedures Change

It doesn't say anything about proof of relationship for a K-1, but I assume that's still necessary. I'm glad it seems to be streamlined instead of adding more work.

CanadaDr Zatzman Review - Feb 2014

Since with no issues it can take up to 2 weeks to get your passport and I'll need to pack up my stuff and quit my job, etc.. second week in april. I'm going to drive down and import my car at the border. I already have a nice apartment on hold. For fun I've been making a victory dance playlist I'm going to play second I hit the Florida state line.

How about your guy?

If all goes well, he will be here by May 1st. He has family back in Newfoundland that he needs to visit before he leaves, and he plans on working until mid-April. I, of course, want him to just leave when he has a visa in hand, but that's probably not practical :P

CanadaPassport photos

This is such a silly question, but does it matter what type of passport photos for the consulate? The medical requires American style, but the Consulate doesn't specify. I would assume American style for the American consulate, but I just want to make sure.

Just curious, does anybody know why we need them at the interview?

CanadaInterview Vancouver/Montreal… how to change?

When it was time for our appointment for a K-1 in Montreal (he lives in GTA), we booked it ourselves. I'm not sure if it's the same for Vancouver, but I know Montreal won't schedule the appointment for you.

CanadaPassport questions

My fiance had to update his passport because he washed the old one, making it invalid, and he was told that he could not keep his old passport. His interview is on Friday, so hopefully it's a non issue since it happened after sending in P3.

Being that he's the Canadian, not me, I'm not a first hand source, so it could vary between the provinces?

From what I hear, customs will take a loooot longer. Our immigrations officer today told us to expect 3-4 hours when he goes through Pearson. And they'll ask the same little questions like how you met and all that jazz.

CanadaK-1 Visa Packet 4 - How long will we have to wait to receive?

Thank you guys for all the responses.  Shelbym, how long did it take you to schedule the interview after?

It took us a couple weeks to schedule the interview because nothing was available. Just keep checking back and snag the first one you can.

And, in my case, check semi-frequently to make sure the consulate didn't reschedule it for you  :ranting:

But! I'm in Montreal right now for his interview on Friday, so it's all about to be worth it :)
