US Embassy and Consulate Discussiongetting Divorce papers
Thanks for some of this info maybe I wasn't clear enough, I wasn't actually divorced in New Orleans it is just that my divorce papers were there,
I thought I was divorced in Phoenix, AZ, I now live in Las Vegas< NV and she now lives in North Carolina.
The possibility of tax returns are interesting, but we did file separatly in 1987 so I may not have put it on my return, especially if the papers came after I filed.
If you know the location u filed, call the county court house and they will direct u to the correct number or office. Most states now, u can search for ur case number once in the county website. There are lots of websites (pay of course) that specialize in finding this type of information for u. Giving them ur name, ur X's name and the county should not take long and the court should have records of the divorce. Good luck, Payato

US Embassy and Consulate Discussiongetting Divorce papers

Hello,
This is all new to me, and I can see I am in for a project but she is definatly worth it.
I hope someone can help me with my problem.

I was divorced back in 1987, she got the divorce I had a copy of the papers but they were lost in Hurricane Katrina. I thought I knew where she got the divorce but when I called the court they have no record of it.

I have no contact with my ex, have not since 1987, she is remarried, I have tracked down her new name, her husbands name even the town they live in but can not get an addy or phone number for her.

I need these papers for my forms, I don't know if I need to get divorced again, will the embassy think I just got divorced?

Please if you have had this problem or any suggestions I am now stuck on what to do next.
Thanks in advance

Divorces are part of public records. Try a search within the state ur X is/or was a resident of or the state in which u got divorced. If u r military, u had to provide a copy to the finance people so there should be a copy there. If i remember right on the income tax form I had to provide a divorce date and location. u should be able to get a copy of ur 87 tax return but it may take a while. Good luck, Payato

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionCFO Age requirements for Parent to Attend?

Noone really seemed to have a concrete answer for me. Most peeps just told me that as long as she was not 18 to 21 not to worry. But of course I still worry a little after reading all those CFO Twisted Evil posts.

I don't think you will get a concrete answer, since as I said your fiancé has to convince the CFO offical that things are on the level. If you are 70 years old and they say they want to see your 90 year old mother you are going to having to what they ask if you want the sticker in the passport. I guess having the letter ready might help, but if they want to see mom and dad you better be ready to get them to the CFO office.

Dean/MD, Thanks. Yea I know how it is in the PI, I lived there for 5 years and my eldest daughter lived there until Jun of this year, so I was there about 4 times a year. I am planning on being there for the interview, so I should be there for the CFO as well and have to wait in the waiting area. Good thing my friend lives in makati and I have a place t stay. Payato

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionCFO Age requirements for Parent to Attend?

I think they can require whatever they want and probably change the hoops to jump through on a case by case basis. I would think requiring a 23 year-old applicant's parents to be there not something that's always required.

MD, I understand what you are saying, just looking for any members that have already completed their CFO seminar to see if this happend to them. I realize that not all members have the age issue, just looking for some experiences. Thanks Payato

Usually, those who attend CFO are husband/wife or future husband/wife. Thats why they required first having a visa before attending CFO seminar, but if u request for advance CFO, they asked you more documents to show. And of course ... marrying age in Phils we're 18 and above ... under 18 need consent of parents also need alot of throughly studying the case.

Some accompanied by their parents but they are not allowed in the premises only in the waiting area, and before you we're accepted to attend the seminar, also .... they required alot of documents to present if you are not yet approved of any visa's.

Rebel, I know what the requirements are and understand the ifference in going to the CFO prior to the Visa stamp and after tha visa stamp. My questions was and still is, has anyone else that attended the CFO been told this age requirement thing for those under 23? It is the first time I ever heard this and it just does not seem right. My fiancee is 21 and will be 22 prior to the interview (unless we get extrememly lucky), so she meets the requirements to be legally married even in the Philippines. Payato

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionCFO Age requirements for Parent to Attend?
Ok, I have looked at the CFO website and there is no mention about an age minimum or requirement about needing your fiancee's parents at the CFO siminar if they are 23 or younger???? I read this on another web site http://ducecoop.com/interview/ "Im so mad because I hope they put that on their website that if u are 23 years old below, U need to bring your parents with u. I was very pissed because they wanted my Mom and dad to be there"

Is this true? If so wonder why it is not on the CFO web site. I should add, that the girl posting this did not mention her age, so she might have been under 21. Thanks, Payato

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAnother tricky question..

My fiance was married for a short time to an immigrant to South Africa. To make a long story short, he lied to her, and had a wife in his native Singapore and was already married at the time he married her. When she found out, she left him, returned to Thailand, and insisted he obtain a divorce from his first wife if he wanted to remain married to her. Instead, the guy divorced her ex parte in SA and married someone else. She asked him several times for a copy of the divorce decree and he never provided one.

So.. Before we filed our I-129f we wrote to the South Africa Department of Home Affairs, explaining the situation in detail, requsting confirmation of a divorce, which we finally received in July, just before we filed our petition.

Now, over 2 months later, we received another notification from South Africa, from the department that handles bigamous marriages, stating that her marriage has been declared null and void, (it was confirmed that he had a wife already in Singapore).

So.. Technically now I suppose she has never been married. I am looking ahead to see what we'll need to file in Packet 3 and she again has to disclose previous marriages, so would we just attach a continuation sheet explaining that since we filed the petition the previous marriage has been delcared void? I don't think this will be a problem, but you never know...

Anyone have any ideas on this?

Bill

Bill, Legally form the U.S. view, she was never married because he was already legally married. The continuation sheet with an explaination may help. Good luck, Payato

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionChanging Jobs

We are waiting for an interview date on the K1 visa in Bolivia. All the paper work has been at the Embassy for 2 months. I have received a very nice job offer and I am wondering how this will effect the rest of the paper work, if I were to change jobs. I have tried to search around for any other forms to fill out and I have not had any luck. Does any have any advice on this? Thanks in advance.

I am by far no expert, but as I see it, the interview will be based on the proof u already sent. If ur new job is better and pays more than the old one, might be a good idea to get the emnployment letter and send it to the recipient. Just a thought, Payato

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionCan Anyone Advise on This Issue?

Hello everyone,

Can anyone advise me on this issue. We are now at the stage that we are awaiting the packet for the interview. My wife received a letter from the Embassy on 09/20/06. My mother is slowly dying of heart disease and other illness caused by it. She is excited about meeting my wife for the first time and wants my wife here so badly for the holiday season. Is there any provision for this circumstance? I just wondered if there is anything that can be done to expedite, or do we have no choice?

Thanks

Glenn, You can do an expedite request based on ur mom's medical condition. You will likely need a notarized statement from a doctor. There was a section either on the NVC or USCIS page about medical expedites, do a search and good luck. Payato.

My Fiancee' received the Packet 3 today even though it di dnot uinclude the interview date. I figured out form thier dates that NVC is as much a crock as USCIS. NVC emailed and snail mailed us with receipt dates of 12 Oct and send date of 13 Oct. However the Embast packet stated they received the petition on 11 Oct. All we need now is the interview date. US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionNervous wreck. Interview date - can it be moved?

My NOA2 is in Sept and I am hoping for a jan or feb interview. Realistically it will prolly be around mid Feb. (Valentines day for an interview?)
So you should be good for a april interview date.

I am with you Gary, but look at our timelines. We received our NOA2 18 Sept but our package got to Manila before yours... now that just does not make any sense does it? I will be interesting in the line for the interview to see just how many VJ folks we recognize. Payato

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionNervous wreck. Interview date - can it be moved?

once the visa is issued, you'll have 6 months to enter the US. Would that be enough time to wrap up things in your contry?

Actually, my concern isn't after the approval of the visa, but rather before. Approval comes after the interview, correct? And I would like to have the interview date moved to sometime after March, if possible (as statistics show that it would be February or March) because going to the embassy on a weekday during these months means missing the classes that I have to teach... Professional responsibility vs Personal gain.. I'd rather go with the latter, but.. I ought not.

Iya, All you have at his point is your NOA2 right? If so, look through the NVC forum and notice it has been taking an average of 3-4 weeks before the NVC actually sends the petiton to the Embassy. In all likelyhood the embassy will not receive your petition until Dec then it will be an average of 120 days form them which puts you in Apri. Once you get and interview date, you can adjust it at your request to a later date. First thing is the passport. Without it, you can not do much of anything. Good luck, Payato
Ken_MariaMalePhilippines2006-11-05 04:54:00
US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionNervous wreck. Interview date - can it be moved?

I wasn't expecting to receive the NOA2 email just yet. When I saw an email from CRIS, I was expecting an RFE. Seriously. When I saw that it was an approval, I experienced first-hand that "legs turned to jell-o" experience. Unfortunately, I am now a nervous wreck. I have a ton of paperwork to finish for this!

For one, I still don't have a passport. Call me a lazy bum, but, it's such a hassle to wade through red-tape.

For another, I have to clear myself from a scholarship obligation (complicated thing. much confusion, i should've been cleared years ago.)

And, this means the interview will be scheduled sometime January or February! I was hoping it'd be sometime after March, as I'm teaching, and I don't want to leave my kids (students) on a school-day. (This is the biggest problem). This led me to wonder, would it be possible to have the interview date postponed? I would love to get it over and done with sooner, but I have responsibilities that I would rather not pass on to others.. In the event that it's not possible, I'll do the interview, of course. But... I was just hoping..

I do dnot mean to burst ur bubble of joy, but people with NOA2s in Sept and Oct still do not have interview dates. Your Nov NOA2 will likely be Mar if not April. The average time between the Embassy receiving ur petition and the intervew date in Manila is 120 days. Good luck and the passport process is not the difficult. Payato

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPacket Question

I have four questions that I need answers to and I would truly appreciate your help.
First, how will the packet be sent to my gf, regular mail or by other means?
Second question, the list that is posted with interview dates, how often is it posted and did I understand correctly that it has the interview dates three months in advance?
Thirdly, will I receive and e-mail or letter informing me of the interview date for my gf?
Last, how do you find out when your file is received in Manila. I called NVC and was told that it was sent out Oct. the 11th.
Thanks

1) Snail Mail letter from the embassy acknowledging the date they received your petition
2) The interview link is not reliable, so it is best to call the Embassy between 0730-0800 am, but wait until they have your case for about 90 days before you start calling.
3) I have not heard of the embassy emailing anyone. Most Receive Packet 4 witht he required forms and the interview date as well as the scheduled medical dates.
4) Once the NVC send it out, it is out of their hands. The letter your finacee receives will have the received date on it.

Patience... good luck, Ken

Its been almost 3 weeks now since USE in Manila got our case but we have not heard anything from them. No emails or letter. Shouldnt they supposed to send me a letter telling me our case is already in manila? or should i expect for the packet 4 already? Thanks for future replies :)

Thersch, If you do a little research on this site for similar timelines you will see the dates that the NVC gives you are not always accurate and it takes about a month for you to receive the letter from the embassy stating they have received you case. I suggest pulling the required forms from this site and have them filled out instead of waiting on the Packet 4. Packet 4 will be sent once the Embassy schedules your appointment. Based on your dates (similar to ours), you are looking at Jan the earliest and probably Feb for an interview. Good luck, Ken

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAFFIDAVIT OF SUPPORT QUESTION

HI EVERYBODY!! I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT THE AFFIDAVIT OF SUPPORT. DOES THIS FORM NEED TO BE SENT WITH THE REST OF THE FORMS OR DOES THIS NEED TO BE BROUGHT WITH MY HUSBAND FOR HIS INTERVIEW? IT'S REALLY CONFUSING CAUSE IT STATES THAT THE FORMS FROM THE CHECKLIST TO BE SUMBITTED AND THE AFFIDAVIT OF SUPPORT IS THE LAST ONE BUT THEN I HEAR THAT THE AFFIDAVIT SHOULDN'T BE DATED NOT TO FAR OFF FROM THE INTERVIEW DATE. SO THAT IS WHY I AM POSTING THIS TOPIC FOR SOME HELP... THANKS

The Affidavit of Support is not required for the petitioner to submit the 129F to the USCIS, but there is no harm in sending it. The Affidavit is required for the beneficiary when they go tot he interview at the consulate, just like the Income Tax Returns, bank statements...etc. All of this in in the guidelines and examples. This may help AsawaExperience, I am still trying to figure out the CFO timing? Why do you have to wait until after the interview if the CFO will give you stamp based on your visa interview appointment? Ken

They won't give you the stamp until you have visa in hand. They will give you a certificate when you complete the seminar which you can go to at any time. You go back with your visa and certificate of completion and they will give you the CFO stamp. I don't beleive there is any reason you couldn't wait until after you get visa in hand to do both seminar and get stamp at the same time. MY fiancee lives in the provinces so she will probably do her medical and CFO in the same trip. Not sure yet though.

CFO is a requirement of the Philippine government. Your fiancee will not be allowed to leave the country if there is no CFO stamp in her passport.

Ok, but she has left the country before traveling on her passport and that is what confuses me. I guess the immigrations officer will see the K1 Visa and know the CFO is required? Thanks, Payato

I just talked to my fiancee about this CFO thing and this is what she sent me. I hope this helps a little.

CFO- Commission of Filipinos Overseas

CFO Manila Registrants:
Filipino emigrants or those leaving the country to settle permanently abroad are required to register with the CFO. Part of its registration requirements is attendance in the Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS) to prepare them for settlement overseas. Those who are 12 years old and below are exempt from attending the PDOS.They must, however, be registered, even if by proxy. Children of emigrants, aged 13 to 19, are required to attend the Peer Counseling Program to help facilitate their adjustment to a new environment.

Pre-Departure Registration and Orientation Seminar

Pre-Departure Registration

Filipino emigrants or those leaving the country to settle permanently abroad are required to register with the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO). Part of its registration requirements is attendance in the Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS) to prepare them for settlement overseas. Children of emigrants, aged 13 to 19, are required to attend the Peer Counseling Program to help facilitate their adjustment to a new environment.

The registration of Filipino emigrants started in 1981, or a year after the CFO was created. The registration process generates an information resource on Filipino emigrants, which provides reference for policy formulation and program development.

Pre-Departure Orientation Seminars (PDOS)

Country-specific pre-departure orientation seminars are conducted for departing Filipino emigrants to address their adjustment concerns in their destination countries. In these seminars, various topics are discussed such as:

Travel regulations;
Immigration procedures;
Cultural differences;
Settlement concerns;
Employment and social security concerns; and
Rights and obligations of Filipino migrants.

Can anyone tell me about the seminar my fiancee has to attend before leaving to come to USA? Do i need to attend also? They say no they just need a copy of my passport. Do i myself need any documents? Any one who has already attended this seminar in manila recently could give me any info I would greatly appreciate it. She has her visa now i'm just going back and we are coming back together to start our lives together and i can't wait :-)
Thank you everyone for all the help and support, hand in there it will surely come.
Louie

No, you do not need to attend the CFO Seminar. It is for filipinos going out of the country to live or work. Your fiancee will need her passport and visa she received from the embassy after her interview. The fee, I believe is p400 for the counseling and p400 for the registration.

Your fiancee will fill up form in the CFO. She needs to know some basic info about you before she go there such as your middle name, your job, birthday etc...

Address:

Good Shepherd Convent
Commission on Filipino Overseas
St. Mary Euphrasia Foundation
1043 Aurora Blvd. Quezon City
Philippines

try to go there as early as possible
after she attend that seminar, she needs to go the below address to get the certification:

Citigold Center
1345 Pres. Quirino Avenue
Cor. Osmeña Hway (South Superhighway)
Manila Philippines 1007

I attended last year before I went here.

if u have some question, dont hesitate to ask me.

additional:

dont forget to bring the passport, i think they also need 2x2 photos (not so sure), and some important documents, and provide some photocopies of everything, coz when we went ther,e the photocopy machine shop are so far from that place so its quite hard.

Ok, I do not get it. If we already have an approved K1 VISA why is the CFO even needed? Is there something from the CFO needs on the Visa or something immigrations needs to let them depart the country? This is not making any sense to me at all. Sounds like another way for the Philippine government to make money. Payato

Asia: East and PacificAirline tickets

kayak.com lets you purchase a ticket when flight is departing from another country. Check it out.

Good website. Funny how it directs you back to Orbitz instead of orbitz letting you book it direct from their site.
Bird, Cheapest flight Cebu-Char on kayak.com was $1300+ one way. I really suggest you get a flight from one of the online agencies and then have your fiance book herself on the same flight and route with an agency in the Philippines. You can also try Ed Mumbunga , he is usually a west coast guy and gets great prices to the PI but not sure what he can do for the return flight. Ed may be able to point you to a preferred agency in Cebu or Manila though. Good luck, Payato

This is more of what I was looking for was a referral to a travel agent. I found a round trip for me about $1600-$1700 through Cathay Pacific, who was really awesome last 2 times I went to visit. $1300 for the one way for Tita is about right from their website right now confirming what you say above.

Thanks

I flew my fiancee, one way from manila, for $650 thru NW Airlines. $1300 sounds like round-trip prices.

That was the price on the website which redirected back to orbitz which is expensive. A travel agent will probably be his best bet at this point or to call BestTravel Store. That price was first week in Jan and we all know Nov-Mar is peak travel time to the PI and the prices go up. I was checking on prices online for Nov and they were ranging from $700 with an over night in Taiwan (3 days to get there, no thank you), $1100 and up for JAL and other US carriers. But my local agency got me PAL direct for $710... it pays to shop around. Payato

Asia: East and PacificAirline tickets

Hi, hope everyone is well.

I am having some initial difficulties in setting up the airline tickets to bring fiance here.

It is starting look like it will be January 2007.

The service I have been using (AAA) told me they could not originate a ticket for my fiance since it was originating in the Philippines.

I fully intend on flying to go get her (round trip from Charlotte to Cebu and back) and coordinate her ticket with mine (one way from Cebu to Charlotte).

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

Try this link to book your ticket BestTravelStore then have you fiancee go to an agency there and book her oneway flight back on the same flight with you. Believe me her ticket will be cheaper if purchasing there. I have done this many times. I also have agency contact in Manila if you need agency names. Payato

This is the result the website returned:

YOUR FARE REQUEST DID NOT RETURN ANY RESULTS. PLEASE CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING:
We carry discount airfares ONLY for departures from the U.S.
Discount airfares require flexibility.

Yes, Like I stated, get your round trip ticket from Charolette and have your fiance get her ticket there. She can get it cheaper there. Most online travel agencies do not allow the origin outside the U.S. but if you call them you can get the ticket. What most of them do not tell you is you can get the ticket cheaper from the origin than form them. If you need an agency in manil let me know or PM me. Payato

Asia: East and PacificDS 156K question

in the DS 156K supplement ..they ask for evidence of engagement..is this the same as evidence of relationship?..eg; photos..phone records..emails?

I assumed the engagement ring on my fiancee's finger at the interview would be proof enough. I also provided the receipt for her ring, with the price blacked out of course.... that is not important.... Ken

Asia: East and PacificFlying into Hawaii from Sydney Aus

we are hoping to have all my visa done etc to be out of here by June. We will be travelling with 3 kids under 5 and our destination is Roswell New Mexico.

I have never made that flight, but you may want to keep in mind the peak tourist season begins in June for Hawaii. Flights and hotel will cost more. It depends on where you want to stay, beach...no beach...etc as tot he cost. If cost is not an issue I suggest the Hawiian Hilton, center of Waikiki, direct access to the beach, walking distance to almost everything. They actually offer marriage cermonies on te Hotel grounds. BTW marriage license in Hawaii is same day, no waiting. Ken
