US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionManila Embassy Interview
Coco, They are only looking for proof of relationship within the last 2 years... anything after that is over kill in my opinion. We only went back to Nov 2005 and I have been there 7 times since Nov 2005, tomorrow will be my 8th trip... I think we have enough. If you are trying to save trees (paper) and/or money, just go back 2 years from the interview date. Ken

Thank you Ken_Maria  We are doing the same thing 3 copies for all documents but in your own opinion because there is a lot to make copies...from 2003-2007 correspondence...Do we have to copy all even the 2003 letters/greeting cards and phone bills OR we just have to make copies of the last 12 months OR randomly pick 5-10 each year of correspondence? My fiancee will bring all originals including the mails/correspondence she sent me here but I just want to know which of these we will make copies. I am trying not to waste a lot of paper for the photocopies because I know I don't need to copy all of it. I just want to make copies sufficient enough for the Consulate's review and surely they will ask for the originals anyway of which my fiancee is going to bring it. Sheriff told me to make copies a few before the petition and after up to the present. How about the old ones? Do I really have to make copies of all? :help: :help: :help:

This is the same line for all Visa applicants and the gard will not let you in until about an hour prior to your appointment time. No need to show up at 2 am. We had 0700 appointment times for the Tourist Visas and got there at 0600. Just go ahead of the line if it is geting close to your time and tell the gard, he will let you in. Our interview is on the 15th and we plan on being there around 6 am. We are staying at the Exec Plaza if anyone wants to catch a ride with us. Just PM me ofr our cell numbes, Ken

aloha for your response. she told me that someone told her there will be a long line early in the morning of the interview. many of the fiancees have the same appointment time. did not know that. some start to line up as early as 2 am. wonder if this is true. i suppose interview numbers are giving once the embassy is opened starting with the first person in line.

Coco, To play it safe, most of us made copies of everythting we submitted. I personally have 3 copies of everything we submitted... 1 for my fiancee, 1 for me and a back up. Most of the items for the interview can be copies and donot have to be originals. Looking at past interviews, the interviewers do not take a lot of evidence, just enough to satisfy there requirements. Good luck, Ken & Maria

Hi there!
You guys are all pretty much very ready :) Thank you for sharing your preparation of your documents and good luck for the interview!
I need the expertise from you all regarding making photo copies of documents as follows...
Me and my fiancee have tons of letters, greeting cards, mail receipts (USPS, Fedex, LBC), phone bills (cellular bills including text messaging and call logs from phone card I am using)...I am talking about correspondence from both of us since 2003 up to the present. I need to know how may of these documents I need to make photo copies? My fiancee of course will bring all originals to the interview. Do we need to make copies of each piece of documents from 2003 up to the present or we only have to select a few for the Consular's copy.
I need your advise...thank you!

Go to the AOS forum and look under the guidelines, there is a link on applying for SSAN. Ken & Maria

hi all! just need help asap about getting an SSN "before" getting married... if i applied for an SSN, what should i typically bring??? (what kind of docs/proofs)... in their application form, page 2, stated:

if you check "legal alien not allowed to work" you must provide from a US Federal, State, or local govt agency that explains why you need a SSN...

im not really sure with that statement...just confused here... and how long should i wait after applying for one...

thanks all!!!

Hawaii would not accept my daughter's IDL but maybe it was because she is 17... may be different for every state, so check the requirements. Ken

If I may chime in here - Jinky has a Philippine Driver's License and our plan is to have her get an International DL before she leaves for the states so that she can legally drive here right away. That might be a preferable route to take considering all the other hoops one has to go through once they have arrived in the US.

Gary, Driver license are state and sometimes county specific. You will have to find out the local requirements for Florida and go from there. Congrat and have fun, ken & Maria

Yahoo! Rosemarie is here now in Florida. Her POE experience in Florida was fast, friendly and very simple. Does anyone know the procedure for her applying for a "drivers license here?" I assume that she will have to get the learners permit first, and that is okay. I am just wondering what information that she must present to get the permit issued? Thanks to everyone in this forum for all of your help and support. You all are the best!

It was a typo, Precision reservations is $38 including all taxes for Exec Plaza.

Ok a couple of questions saw catching up this evening after work. Hotels.. look for hotels in the Ermita or Malate area as both are walkign distance to the Embassy. Try Precision Reservations for the hotel. We got Exec plaze for 438 a night including the VAT.

One-way flights can be booked for a fraction of the cost with thiese websites. Just remember if you book it online for your fiancee or finace, you will still have to pay the 1650 travel tax because the ticket was purchased outside the PI. try these TravelPH / Kayak.com or BestTravelStore I found the best prices at kayak and they eventually took me to PAL.

The departure tax was still 550 peso on 15 Jan when I left and the 200 peso security fee stil hd not been implemented. Good luck, Ken & Maria

Hey Ken_Maria,

Next time your booking rooms for Manila you may want to try www.asiarooms.com. I have found they are always less expensive than precision. For instance Executive Plaza is $38 inluding all taxes and fees. God bless.

Photo copy of her passport might work since they are only lookign for a picture ID and not the actual passport. Ken

I was wondering if the embassy keeps Lorna's passport, how will she fly back to cebu with no photo id?

I'm pretty sure she has no ID with a photo except for her passport.
She has:

postal id
voters id
Nbi clearnance
birth certificate
marriage certificate
baptismal cert.
and maybe a college id from when she was in college a couple of years ago.

Will any of these work at the airport?

Thanks,
Mike

From Sheriff Uling's signature;

(6). The DELBROS website is within my signature. DELBROS is the company responsible for delivering the beneficiary’s Visa and POE information. The DELBROS delivery fee is paid subsequent to the beneficiary’s visa interview at the Manila Embassy. Per the Manila Embassy website, the current delivery fee/time is as follows:

* Metro Manila Areas, 135 Philippine Pesos, Delivered one (1) to three (3) business days after release of visaed passport to the courier
* Provincial Key Cities (ex. Cebu City, Davao City, etc.) 165 Philippine Pesos; Delivered three (3) to five (5) business days after release of visaed passport to the courier
* Outside Provincial Key Cities, (ex. Capiz, Leyte, Bukidnon, etc.), Cost depends on area/location, Delivered five (5) to seven (7) business days after release of visaed passport to the courier.

Ken and Maria

Anyone, please how much is Delbros??? I couldnt find it and the interview is this evening our time? One of the testimonials I read said 'pay delbros' at the end when giving delivery instructions for the visa. I didn't see anything about that on the package???

Help!

I don't remember exact amount, but it's under 200p. can vary a bit depending where delivered to in Philippines.

Glenn, All she has to do is show up at the CFO office with her certificate and passport with the visa, plus the 400 peso. Should take less than 30 mins, but this is the Philippines and everything is on filipino time  , Ken

Glenn&Rosemarie, It is posted here in the thread a few time, but here is the link to the CFO with maps and instructions. Ken & Maria

Thanks again Ken, I read the site and I assume being that she has taken the seminar, all she needs to do is go there and get the sticker affixed to her passport/visa? I just want to have all bases covered, as she is arriving in Manila about noon on Tuesday and her flight leaves at 7:30am Wednesday.

Thanks

Glenn, PW did a good run down a few days ago, search for her post and you will find it, but I'll give it go here. There is a 550 peso departure fee, supposed to be an additional 200 peso security fee upon departure but when I left on 15 Jan it still had not been implemented and if you bought her tickets online, she wil have to pay the 1620 peso fee at an agency prior to arrival at the airport or when she checks in. Let me recap:
Daparture fee : 550 peso
Security fee: 200 peso
Foreign Purchase Tax: 1620

PS: The departure fees are paid after u check in and they stamp your boarding pass.

ken and Maria

Fees departing Manila: I am trying to prepare Rosemarie for her expenses at the airport in Manila. I know there are some fees. However, I don't know how much they are. can someone please tell me. I want to be sure she is prepared for these expenses. Thanks for your help!

I hand out our packet, passport and boarding pass. Did finger scanning with picture taking lol. The CO told me that I have 90 days to marry and adjust the status. Got the stamp and heard the word WELCOME TO THE UNITED STATES! That was quick totally. I saw few girls carrying thier bones lol ( i mean the x-ray film) hahahaha and I asked them if why are they carrying thier bones.... Was joking around hahahaha. It wasn't needed so better keep the x-ray films in your luggage if you want.

Easter is 8 April and Holy Week is the week prior. I would not wait until the last week of Mar to get the CFO done just in case.

Booked our travel arrangements today (shame on me for leaping forward on a whim) and landed a reasonably good deal (I believe, I'm not squabbling that much over price due to my extreme level of excitement now) on that super direct NWA direct Detriot - Manila flight. I did $1125 round trip today for my Mar 24 depart and April 5 return and also $890 one-way for Milah Jean. I had found a Dayton-Manila round trip today for $924, but the one-way fare for her to return with me was over $1600!!!. So, I'm not suprised by the extreme price of the new ticket, Glenn. I'm content. I just hope that we have no glitches that would force a reschedule.

A question for the natives - are there any national holidays during the weeks of Mar 26 and April 2 that we should be aware of where PRISM, CFO and SMEF-COW in Manila would be closed? We are hoping that her visa is delivered in time for my arrival and we plan to do both CFO sessions then. I know this is getting close to Easter and Holy Week.

Thanks all for the info!!!

Michael and Milah Jean

Hmm when I booked, I went through Kayak that brought me to the PAL page...wonder fi that was the difference? Ken

I may have seen someone mentioned this before but i've having a difficult time in booking a one-way ticket through PAL. The error message that I received is "Sorry. We are having difficulty in validating your credit card. You may wish to enter details of an alternative card and try again. (M009)." Has anyone experienced this situation and if so successfully how did you get around this (besides using another card)? I used my VISA card. Aloha.

I have 4 different credit cards and none of them work on the PAL website. Apparently it's due to the Mastercard SecureCode and Verified by VISA they are using.

I have emailed them numerous times about this and all I get is a worthless canned response. I don't think they care if they sell tickets on their own website.

You can book PAL on Expedia for $5 more, that's what I did.

I did not have the issue. Have you tried calling the 1-800 number or using the email or chat with agent functions? If you have never visited the online website for your card to do an electronic verification, that might be the problem too. Ken

You have every right to be pissed off. This is the same reason I wrote the Senator here in Hawaii and got a letter of apology from the Manila USE. They are required to explain the reason for AR, denial, RFEs...etc and they blow you off when you question them like they are above answering your questions or providing justification for their actions. If this is not settled in the next couple of days have your fiance contact me via PM, I have the senator's number and email address. Ken

Hopefully this is a short AR. I am guessing they are looking for a coesent letter from the father which is not required if I understand your situation. I would call them and see what the hold up is. Luckily it is only $25 to change you fligt if you are on the 1600 PAL flight to Honolulu. Good luck, we are pulling for you, Ken & Maria

Aaaaaahhhhhhhhhh JESUS CHRIST! What is thier reason to put my son in AR? I already recieve my visa. He was suppose to have his too aaaaaaaaahhhhhh can't help but cry...don't know what to do now...we're suppose to leave today.....

They don't require any consent, they didn't ask anything they let me pay delbros. I called the embassy, my fiance called the embassy too but they told us to email. Email and wait forever. I thought it was over but here we are again. I am sorry I am so pissed right now. I hope someone can share thier experiences like this.

I established a prepaid ATM card at my bank and gave the card to my Fiancee. This way all transfers happen here in the states and all she has to do is go to the ATM. Some banks have prepaid ATM card and others do not. You could also ask for a second ATM card and send it to your wife. If your bank is charging you for every ATM withdrawl fee, I'd change banks. Lots of banks have up to 10 ATM cash withdrawals before charging a fee and my bank reimburses me for up to 10 ATM fees that the other banks charge.
The CFO is required for all Filipino citizens going overseas. There are sessions for OSFWs and then the K-1/K-3 visa recipients. Here is the link CFO Ken

I AGREE!! You totally need to change banks. I use Washington Mutual and they don't charge for anything (free checks, no annual fee, free intl wire transfers to BPI, free bank letter). Well, they do charge for bounced checks. But nobody should be bouncing checks anyway. :innocent:

what do i ask for if i want to get more info on the free intl wire transfer to BPI? i'm paying LBC $15 everytime i send money to my wife

Yes he will need to attend the CFO seminar and get the CFO stamp on his VISA before he can leave the country.

is this mandatory for CR/IR visas?

You guys need to change banks, mine was free as is my checking, atm withdrawals, funds transfers, checks...etc. I hate banks that use my money and then charge me to use my own money. Ken

Well it appears we have another debate: Is the Bank Letter Required? YES or NO.

I am thinking that it all depends on the financial situation of the USC. I imagine that if USC is making less than $24K a year, he might be required to submit more evidence of financial standing like bank letter. If he is making well above $30K then W2, ITR, pay stubs and employment letter would suffice but that is just my opinion. No one really knows what the consular officers are thinking.

In my case, since I want to minimize my chances of getting an AR, I might as well get that bank letter because if Mr. or Ms. Consul is having bad hair day he/she :girlwerewolf2xn: can ruin my day as well

My fiance paid $30 for his bank letter. Gee, these American banks! $30 for a letter!? My bank here in the Philippines does not charge me a single cent for a simple letter like that.

Glenn, As far as i know the USCIS and NVC do the background checks on the USC. If there was a copy of the annullment, it might be smart to have it available at the interview but not offer it up. JMHO, Ken

My wife and I are both very nervous today. Her interview is Thursday. I am usually very optimistic about everything in general, but this has me worried. I am thinking of anything that might cause a problem with her Visa approval. I am now wondering if they do a background check on the petitioner also? When I was in college I was married 2 weeks. I had went to Las Vegas with a girlfriend and we got a speedy wedding there. Two weeks later it was annulled, as we both realized we made the decision from the influence of alcohol. I didn't add this information to my petition. I am praying that this will not come back to cause a problem.

My question is this: Do they perform a background check on the petitioner that would divulge this information? We are applying for K3, as we are in fact already married. God know, I so much pray that this will not be a problem. I feel that they should easily see that we are married, so there is no problems in that fact.

Yep Yep, It was not a link, just the information abouth the Firt-Time Immigrant fare that got me to ask PAL. Either way, I will find out something form them online or when I get to Manila and talk to my friend that works in a travel agency. Ken

x x x The link you provided to the fare regulations was very helpful. I will let everyone know what PAL says as soon as I get the reply.

Umm  I'm tempted to take credit but I don't remember providing a link to the fare regulation. Maybe another VJ member did? Hey, stand up to be recognized!

But I'd like to see the link so I can read up and try to familiarize myself with the rules so if you can post that please.

PW, Got another email from PAL and now they are checking into the first time Immigrant fare for me. The link you provided to the fare regulations was very helpful. I will let everyone know what PAL says as soon as I get the reply. Ken

Hi Steven,

The first time immigrant fare is for anyone who can present an immigrant visa and travelling as first time immigrant. Passenger is entitled to the special fare even if he/she has travelled abroad before as tourist or contract worker.

I'm not sure though if PAL recognizes K1 as immigrant visa as USE classifies it as non-immigrant.

PW thanks, I am going to ask an agent I know in Manil aonce I get there to see if we can still get the discount. I am Kuripot LOL. Ken

Here is the response directly from PAL concerning the "Firt Time Immigrant fare". I know I saw the link to the fare and I wil find it, but this is the email respnse I got from PAL. Ken
Dear Mr. XXXX,
We regret that we do not have a special discount or lower airfare for first time immigrants. However, you were quoted the lowest fare at the time of your booking. In the event that a lower fare becomes available online and you would like to avail of it, you will have to refund your confirmed ticket first to avoid duplicate bookings. Refund will be subject to
relevant fare rules and penalties.
Thank you.

Ken, I asked my travel agent about your post. She said that first-time immigrant fare is sold only by PAL through travel agents.

Vick, Unless I read it wrong, Glenn is meeting her at the POE not Manila. Ken

My wife has her interview on 01/25. We don't expect any issues there, as she has everything in order and I sent everything but actual DNA about me! Her POE will be Detroit. I will fly there that morning and then fly home to Florida with her that evening on the same flight. In scheduling our flights, I just wonder how much time it takes for her at the POE in Detroit before she is ready to leave for her flight to Florida? Maybe someone can give me their experience with arrival at the POE. I would certainly appreciate it. Good luck to all!

Glenn

She will pick up her Visa at the USE then you will fly there too pick her up?
Second, Luz and Robin just left for their medical. Luz is really nervous about it because she doesn't like shots or the peeking "down there" but she is screwing up her courage to do it. While she is in Manila she will also get updated NBI, BC and Annullment papers. I have everything done here paperwork wise other than getting my I-134 noterized. I'll do that monday. It looks like we are about ready for the interview next month. God! 23 more days 'till I get there and 25 days 'till the interview!!! I cant wait!!!!

Luz was going to go on the 18-19 but her son had final tests on those days. She also had a bit of a cough and she didn't want them to think she had TB and make her come back for more tests. We still plan on being in Manila Feb 14-15. I am hoping that we can make it a party one of those nights.
Gary, Maria was looking for Luz on 18-19 Jan, as we thought she ahd said she would go then. Now we know why she did not see her. Even though Maria was finished with everything b4 noon they still made her come back the next day for shots. She only got the MMR as they said they were out of the other shots???
The CFO ws easy and short, Maria went after her shots on the 19th and was still finished by 3:30 pm. Good luck to Luz, see yall on the 14th. Ken & Maria

Mike too many factors to give you a definite answer. It depends on the provider (Smart/Globe), depends on whether they are sending the text to your cell with Smart/Globe roam, ur U.S. Cell, using Chikka...etc.
If I remember right it is between 2-3 peso per text via chikka. My daughter's cell is on Smart roam and it is like 3 peso for her friends to text her here in Hawaii but like 20 Peso for her to reply. My Nextel cell charges me 20cents to reply to a text messgae from the PI.
It is a lot cheaper to use Chikka via you computer. Ken

Hi.
I'm curious how much a cell phone text message costs to send from Philippines.

Thanks,
Mike

I asked for quotation from my travel agent here in Manila and they quoted me these Philippine Airlines airfare for Feb. 15 departure MNL-LAX one-way:
First time immigrant fare - $554 (inclusive of US taxes) + P1,620 travel tax
Regular airfare - $691 (inclusive of US taxes) + P1,620 travel tax
You may want to ask about "first-time immigrant fare" for your ladies guys! I think it's only Phil. Airlines that offers this fare type.

Congrats... nothing wrong with doing a non-traditional wedding. Most wedding I have been to have been boring and everyone was only waiting for the reception anyway...
We r still deciding on whether to go to Mauii, Vegas or New Orleans... Madi Gras wedding would be somethign to remember lol. Ken

Since it is a "slow news day" in the Manila forum, I'll share that last night Jenalyn and I got married. We were married by the Camp Hill Mayor at the Cornerstone Coffee House (and wedding chapel) and then everybody walked down the street to the Lebanese restaurant for a feast (complete with belly dancers) prepared by Mike the owner. Not exactly a "traditional" wedding night, but it was a blast, and everybody and a great time (some more then others based upon the number of wine bottles we went through).
