Glenn, I said it before, you need to report her to the authorities as a missing person. that is the first step. Then go to ICE to report the fraud if that is what you truely feel. I personally think her relatives in the PI were only hearing her side of her story and gave her some bad advice. You need to protect yourself form reposnosibilities as her sponsor at this point. You can always cancel the "missing persons" filing and the Fraud charges, but you need to cover your collective ####### at this point. Hopefully she will do the honorable thing and at least contact you and give you a reason so this can all end well and not with two people full of anger towards each other. Ken & Maria

What should I do? It has been over 48 hours now since I have heard anything related to her.I have no choice but to feel that I have been used. We were married in the Philippines on December 29, 2005. Do I file for divorce here in USA? I have emailed my attorney, but no response. I think he is only good at cashing checks. He was a major waste of $3000 for sure. Did she do this just to get here in the USA? If so, how can she stay? We had not applied for AOS. I don't like being used and want to know where she is.

Glenn, it has been more that 24 hours and hopefully Rose has made some kind of contact with you. If not, you at least need to report her as missing to the local authorities unless you have complete confidence in the information her cousin is passing you. Filipinas keep a lot of thing bottled up inside and do not tell you the smallest things that bother them or that they disagree with. You have to work at it and basically find a way to make them open up to you with fear of you getting mad at them.
There are other options other than the cell phone (which I do not believe is the issue), like th einternational calling rate, yahoo chat on cam, chikka, yahoo SMS text, calling cards....ect. Everyone gets home sick the first time they leave home but keeping them busy and introducing them to your friends and her making friends always helps. There are a few VJ members right here in Honolulu that we made a point of looking up so the girls had someone to talk to when we are at work.
There are always 3 sides to every story, yours, hers and the ground truth in the middle somewhere. Hopefully you two can talk and at least figure this out. Her leaving you, from the information you have posted, does not sound like the most mature thing to do. You need to at least find her so you can talk to her and the first step is reporting her missing. Good luck, Ken & Maria

I don't know what happened here? I am in shock and a little intoxicated. My wife went for a bike ride this morning at 9:30am and never came back. All she took was her money, jewels and passport. I received an email from her cousin in the Philippines 8 hours later that said my wife is safe and for me to move on with my life. I am in shock. I married her in the Phils 18 months ago, she was here 1 day short of two months and she is gone. Day after day she said she was depressed and homesick. The only disagreement we had was yesterday. It was about her $1028.00 cell phone bill where she had been calling the Philippines at $3.00 a minute instead of using our landline international service.

I don't know if I have been used or what. I am just in shock and have nobody to talk with. Glenn

CanadaAny Suggestions on Hotels?
Hey guys! I just got my email last night with my interview date -- June 27th! (which happens to be my birthday!!!). Im coming from Niagara Falls, and so far am thinking gotrain to TO and then Mega Bus to Montreal. It ends up being $64 + tax, getting me there early afternoon on the 26th and leaving late afternoon on the 27th. So I am looking for somewhere to stay for the one night I am in Montreal. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions at all? Right now Im leaning towards an econolodge (I think it was) that is like a 15 min drive away and taking a cab. Most of what Ive seen closer is in the $200 range.. for one night.. which Ill probably be too excited to sleep much anyway ha ha. Anyway, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! thanks a bunch!

CanadaDS-230 vs DS-260
I wish I had looked into this! I did the DS-230 and then got an email a month later saying the Montreal consulate required the online DS-260. The only good thing I can say is that since I already mailed in my police certificate, marriage certificate, and birth certificate originals, they will already be at the Consulate on Monday when I go for my interview.. but yeah

Thanks for the great review! My medical is on Monday and getting nervous, but your post really put my mind at ease.

You mentioned you had to show the packet 4 letter from the Consulate... i never received any letter in the mail. Packet 3 and 4 was emailed to me, would that be sufficient for the medical exam?

thanks!

We didn't get anything mailed to us as a hard copy either. But in the email you got scheduling your interview date, there should have been a pdf letter that says:

"Dear _________

Then enclosed information pertains to ____________'s interest in immigrating to the United States of America. The National Visa Center (NVC) has completed its processing of ___________'s petitionm case number ________________; and forwarded it to the American Embassy/Consulate in MONTREAL.

An immigrant visa interview has been scheduled for the applicant at the U.S. Embassy/Consulate in MONTREAL on _________ at______."

it goes on.

this is the letter you need. print off all 3 or 4 pages, but they will only ask for the first. But bring the whole letter anyway.

hope that helps!

aww thanks! I leave Sunday morning for it. Get into Montreal at about 7pm and then the next day Ill be headed to the interview. Im freaking out... I know I will. :D I miss my hubby SO much.. as I know we all miss our spouses.. Its so tough. And my best friend and his friend are dating now.. they met at our wedding.. so I feel like Im watching hubby and I's relationship all over again ha ha.

I did get my results yesterday. So thats good.. the xrays are HUGE! and I forgot to bring a bag to carry them in, so I had to buy a birthday gift bag at one of the shops at Union Station. ha ha. then the whole ordeal going back.. my train was delayed... then delayed some more.. then stopped because of a medical emergency. what a hassle. lol. But now all I need to do is re-do my DS-230 for the interview (because since I submitted it, Ive been back to visit hubby again for his university grad)... and.. pack!

haha we just missed each other! I had mine Tuesday too and I got there probably about 7 ish.. there was only myself and another girl in the waiting room. Actually, even when I left the waiting room wasn't full. The exam mostly was ok. The chest and physical went without a hitch, but the nurse doing the blood work had a ####### of a time getting blood from me. She tried twice, couldn't get it, so she told me to go do the physical first. then I went back and she tried 3 more times, still no luck. So she had to get the Dr in. 7 minutes of tourniquet switching from arm to arm and tapping to get a vein to pop, she finally got on in my right hand and was able to get the blood out. Mentally I was freaking out because I KNEW I needed that blood test! And I had just had blood work done 2 weeks ago with no problems so I was like why isn't this working? ha ha. But they got it done. I live out of town as well so I called to make sure my results are in... I haven't heard back and the last bus that will get me there in time leaves in just under an hour.. so unless I hear back in the next 20 min Ill go tomorrow to pick the results up.. since I leave Sunday for Montreal for my interview Monday. whew!

But I can say all the staff were really friendly, that's for sure. Especially the receptionist.. she was SO nice!

For DOS, call 202-663-1225. Press 1 and then 0. A "visa specialist" will come on. Then tell him/her that you had your interview on so-and-so date in Montreal and were wondering if your visa had been printed yet. They'll then ask for your case number. They might also ask for your name or other info, but definitely your case number.

Hurry though if you're gonna call today as they close at 5pm ET which is in under an hour.

calling now :) my wait time is approximately 10 min

does the phone just ring for 10 min while I wait?

Im on hold with CBP to ask this question but I thought I would post it here too. HOPEFULLY I get my visa this week. In theory, hubby should be in Niagara Falls, NY Monday night (again as long as the visa arrives on time), and we are hopefully planning to drive from Niagara Falls, NY to Arkansas. So here is my question. My dad is going to pack his car up and drive me across the border, meet up with hubby and switch my stuff to his car and then we will start on our trip. The thing is, my father works until 11pm Monday night, and so we would be looking at crossing sometime between 11pm and midnight. Is there going to be a problem with this? I dont know if the immigration part of CBP keeps certain hours? Any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks!

CanadaDid you do your medical in Toronto?
pretty sure your medical stands as valid for 6 months from the date it happened. so if you were OK when you got it done and it hasn't been 6 months, you should be ok. Correct me if I'm wrong though, if anyone has heard otherwise.

I was under the impression that the flu shot was only during "flu season" I didnt have one in June, nor did they give me one at the medical exam.. that said I don't know when they consider "flu season." You could call the Dr. office. Leave a voicemail and they are great about calling back. I had questions for them when we found out I was pregnant. They would be able to confirm if you are needing it yet or not.
Shawna and JamesFemaleCanada2011-08-31 23:26:00
CanadaDid you do your medical in Toronto?
MMR is definitely something you need a booster for. As far as kiddos go, if you are pregnant, they cannot give it to you. It has been linked to birth defects. That said, if you ARE pregnant, its considered contra indicative or something so since they CANT give it to you, it doesn't count against you. You get a pass. After we lost our baby, I was eligible to receive the immunization, but my dr did tell me under risk of like.. death.. not to get pregnant again for at least 3 months because of the MMR.. so just keep that in mind. If you are planning on starting your family, wait at least 3 months before doing so after the MMR :)

Other than that, my TO medical was pretty straight forward. they do the chest x ray first... then blood.. then the physical. There was a problem for me getting blood out. I have small veins and they roll so the nurse had a hard time. As far as the physical goes, that's when they ask about substance abuse. They will also have a female nurse do a breast exam and a visual of your genital area, no touching. So.. just be aware of that because I definitely wasn't expecting it. It wasn't intrusive, just surprised me :)

CanadaCanadian/U.S words & pronounciations
My husband doesn't say this, but my mother also married an American when I was a young teen, so I spent my summers visiting her in VA. One thing that always got pointed out.... actually two:

when you didn't catch something that was said:

Canadian: Pardon?
American: Do What?

and

Canadian: Toilet
American: Commode

The first time my step dad's mom told me I might have to jiggle the handle on the commode, I looked at my mom with this bewildered look on my face lol.

CanadaFiling Taxes
Hello fellow Canadians! I have a question about filing taxes. I am not employed currently, but I figure even if I was, the answer would be the same since I know you still have to file taxes in Canada when you live there whether you were employed or not. So my question is this: Now that I live in the US as a permanent resident (and have been here since July 12th of this year), do I still file taxes in Canada? My Husband is an accountant, and he says for the US, if you have lived 11 out of 12 months out of the country, you are exempt from filing US taxes, but anything less you would be required to file taxes on your income even from a foreign source. Of course, that us the US policy, and I am unsure of the Canadian policy. Obviously, if the Canadian policy is the same, then my answer would be this year, yes. But in the future, no since I would be residing in the us 12/12 months of the year from here on out.

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

thanks!

CanadaWoW'ers stand up and be counted!!!
hmm I didnt even know this forum post existed! ha ha. Well this is how hubby and I met too. Right before WotLK came out, a group of us who could not make raid times in our current guild split off and formed a new one. We had started pugging this rogue in, and he brought along a druid healer. The healer being my (now) husband. He and I started talking when he would pst me before raids to get an early invite so he could go have a smoke before raid... it just kind of went from there.

He ended up quitting wow this past year because it was his senior year in University and he needed to focus on that. I still play.. but mostly because Since I cant seem to find a job, and all his co-workers are single, so no gf's or wives for me to get to know.. I have no one to hang out with :(

I used to play a boomkin as my main, but am now playing a mage. We are/were both alliance on the Ravencrest server.

CanadaBest US cell phone to text Canada
My husband and I ended up switching to blackberries for BBM because of this issue. He is with AT&T and even with the 200 text package, we were going over that so quick. His bills were sky rocketing. Having worked for T-mobile in Canada (at a call center), I knew they also charged for Canadian texts. Personally, to keep in touch with my Canadian friends now that I am in the US, we all got live profile (since not all of us have blackberries) and just IM. There is no "messaging" cost, it comes out my data plan. Or, I use facebook on my phone for those who dont have live profile. But that's just my two cents worth.
