K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresConstructing a receipt number from the cashed check
So the I-129F is in (to TSC and apparently transferred to CSC) and my check was cashed yesterday. There's a 10-digit number on the back of the check. I went to the USCIS website to start tracking my case. Registered for a new account. So far so good.

When I went to add a case, it asks for a 13-character receipt number. I tried CSC + the 10-digit number on the back of the check -- no luck. I also tried TSC + the 10 digit number with no luck. I assume that the number just isn't in the system yet.

My question, though, is: Would my receipt number be CSC (or TSC) + the 10 digit number? I am only guessing about that. I'll be leaving for Peru again in 6 days and would really like to be able to show Betty how to check the case progress over the net while I'm there. I doubt that I'll receive the paper NOA-1 before I leave.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks guys.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhy should a visa be denied?
I'm very sorry to hear that. I can't imagine how crushed you must be. My most sincere condolences.

I'm pretty new at this but, if this were to happen to me and I did not understand what had happened, I would spend a couple hundred bucks consulting with a lawyer -- at least until I had a handle on why I had been denied and what my options were.

Just my $0.02.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat should I do?
According to the statistics for K-1 visas under "Immigration Timelines", the average time from NOA2 to the petition arriving at the consulate is 25 days and the average time from receiving the petition to the interview date in Nicaragua is 51 days. The total is 76 days or about 2 1/2 months. If your times conform to these averages, then you would expect an interview in early March.

Don't know if that helps, but it is at least one data point.

Cheers

I sent the entire statements and highlighted the calls to/from Peru. I thought it would be less confusing to the adjudicator that way.

Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresUnderstanding the timelines

But what do the processing times shown here mean?: https://egov.immigra...nter=California

They are simply CYA dates. They mean "Unless you filed more than 6 months ago, don't call us to enquire about your case. We will only tell you that it is within normal processing times." If you get hung up for more than 6 months, then MAYBE you can get someone on the phone to tell you something helpful.

CSC (the slowest center) is currently processing applications filed in late October/early November.

Earlier today we received a touch and about 15 minutes ago we got three NOA-2 emails saying we had been approved!!!!!!!

I just got off the phone with Betty. Man, we are so pumped!!!!! I only returned from Arequipa yesterday after a 42-hour oddessy (thanks to a closed airport) and I should be in bed right now but somehow I don't think that I'm going to get a lot of sleep tonight.

Suddenly, it seems like Betty & I together here in the US is much closer to being a reality than a dream. Life is really freakin' good at this particular moment!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAIRPLANE TICKET FOR K1
Chris-n-Veronica remind me of another point. American Airlines includes the Lima departure tax in their airfares -- none of the others flying from Lima to the US do that (Continental, Delta, LAN, COPA). That's a $30.25 difference to remember if your decision is that close.
BettyAndMeNot TellingPeru2007-01-22 14:47:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAIRPLANE TICKET FOR K1
Hey Andrea,

Check the prices for both and buy whichever is cheaper. I am looking at Miami for Betty's POE and, if I buy it 1 week in advance, a round-trip on LAN is the cheapest. Just throw the return ticket away.

In case you're wondering, it doesn't matter to US Immigration if you don't have a return ticket.

Only Continental Airlines flies direct between Houston and Lima, right? You might check their website. Sometimes you can save a few bucks by buying direct through them. BTW, the Houston POE is my favorite of the 3 I use from Lima (MIA, HOU, ATL). Fastest and least confusing of the three.

Another point, Atlanta is only about 200 km further from NO as Houston, roughly an extra 3-hr drive. You might want to check prices to Atlanta as well. Delta has a direct flight between Lima and Atlanta every day.

If you're traveling by yourself and can risk a day or two in arriving, another option is to fly stand-by. I know that my last two flights from Lima to Houston/Atlanta have not been completely full and all stand-bys got seats. You save money but I don't know how much.

OK, it doesn't mean much (if anything) and you veterans probably don't think this is noteworthy but we were just touched. At least it shows that CSC is working on at least some November cases now.

Betty and I are pretty excited about it. It's nice to see at least some activity after almost 70 days of nothing.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMarried to Overstay Deportation?
It is very difficult for a Peruvian to get a tourist visa to the US unless she/he has very significant hard assets in Peru (I think I once saw a statistic of about 90% rejection in Peru). Peruvians must show compelling (financial) reasons that will force them to return to Peru. If she has the assets to get the tourist visa, she could probably sponsor herself. If not, then the question is moot because she will not get the tourist visa.

The tourist visa is the obvious alternative to the time delay in the K-1 process. The USCIS and embassies all know this and can spot the fake tourism applicant a mile away. Going this route will only lead to a failed effort, more expense, more time, and will jeapordize your K-1 when it is eventually filed.

My suggestion is to drop the tourism visa idea.

Congratulations TimsDaisy!

If you have the cancelled check, on the back is the case or receipt number. You can go ahead and create an account at uscis.gov where you can monitor your case's progress online. Don't do this unless you are ready to check that website many many times/day.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresUSC Birth Certificate Advice Please
I didn't know if I had a short form or a long form -- it looked pretty short to me. So I copied it anyway and also sent a copy of my passport just in case. Our NOA-2 came through faster than most CSC filers and with no RFE's.

YMMV

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNew Filing for K3 Visa
Greetings all,

I just filed for a K-3 visa by sending in the initial I-130 form to Laguna Niguel, CA and this my first post to this forum. So it is a hello and a thanks you for having such a great source of information easily available to me during this long process.

I will continue to post my updates and I hope they bring a little help to others who are in similar circumstances; waiting for the Fed's to process their papers.

Also, with all the immigrations angst out there in the U.S. about the illegal aliens, I almost feel better knowing I am going through the process legally and not cutting any corners. Because the day will come when my Wife arrives here and that will be all the thanks I need, knowing the system does work.

So, good luck to all of you that are still waiting for their loved ones to arrive and you can re-start you life with someone you truely love and want to be with.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresSubmitting forms for K-3 and VisaJourney's Guids
On May 30th, I completed and I-130 form and used the Guide in VisaJourney.com. I was waiting for my first NOA1 when it took too long for it to arrive. I called the 1-800 number to the help desk at USCIS. An officer Richardson from Los Angeles, CA told me that the California Service Center sent the receipt to the wrong address (Address was correct on all my forms submitted) and was returned to USCIS "unknown address." Then he continued on to direct me to correct this problem.

1. Direct certified mail with copy of check (he gave me the 24000 Avila Rd, Laguna Niguel, CA Attn: I-130 unit).
2. Copy of I-130 and related documents.

(notice in the guide, it highly recommends making several copies of all documents sent even check)

I sent this off today certified next day service with fingers crossed.

I am extremely pleased with VisaJourney.com and it guides and forums. Information here has greatly assisted me completing and correcting problems that popped up in my desire to legally immigrate my wife to the U.S. Also, I am very happy to have contacted the help desk at USCIS and received excellent service from a government bureaucracy.

Good job all, thanks

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresOnly a reciept number offline; Sent 129F pkg anyway
Hiyas,

Okay, here is what happened to me so far:

06/10/06 sent I-130 pakage to CA service center
06/23/06 They sent me my NOA1 but to an incorrect address (not my mistake) I didn't know this happend
07/12/06 called 1-800 help line and told me to send a package directly to the center ...
07/13/06 USPS next day sent the pkg.
07/31/06 Called 1-800 help line and talked to an officer who told me that the WAC# on my canceled check was the recipe number and just print out the online status statement and put that in the K-3 package and send that bad boy out. She also informed me that some of those phone service operators actually operate from home as contractors. Wow, that is wild. She went on to tell me that those contractors can't call up our cases from their home only the officers at the call centers can do that. Another wow..

Now I am back on track; breathing easier since knowing all this and sending my I-129F package out tomorrow. Whew!

Waiting is easy but when something goes wrong, that is what bites.... haha

Enjoy

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCheck cashed
Howdy all,

I am the fella that had no NOA1 sent to for my initial filing of my I-130. (They sent that to the wrong address and never reached me) I just used the online print out of the result of the mailing and a copy of my cashed check (where I got the WAC #).

Now, the Fee of $170.00 for the I-129F application was cashed (checked it online with my bank statements).

I sure hope this means that the process is moving along since I really don't follow the normal flow that is discribed in most of all your own cases. I am working on a great deal of assumptions and hope that I am doing the correct thing here.

Thanks and enjoy.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion about K-3 visa
Hi all,

I wonder if you may have any thoughts about my intentions?

My wife's K-3 status is up for adjudication Nov 15th. I am leaving to visit her in Cambodia again in November 4th through 25th. I am wondering if I can take what I have (after doing the other paperwork like when the NOA2 is approved) over with me to Cambodia and go to the interview together in Bangkok?

Would this be proper? I hope that this is viable course of action to be able to bring her back to the U.S. with me after she completes her interview.

Of course this will all hinge on the paper work being complete with the NVC. Timing is everything I guess and all I can hope for is a favorable outcome.

If not, I can wait for all the other factors to run its course and complete the timeline when I return Nov 25th.

Thank you for any insite to my eagerness. Aint Love strange. Makes you think of so many ways to hasten the outcome.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresK-3 approved way early
I want to thank all of you for your comments.. sometimes when dealing with the Federal Government, a little support helps with the wait-time.

Now the nitty-gritty work getting all the interview documents collected and wait for the NVC response letter.

Thanks again and good luck with all your cases as well.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresK-3 approved way early
Hi all,

I have no idea why my case was approved so quickly. I noticed that October's time line K-3 visa's approval times have dropped sharply. Could this be the reason why my case was approved so quickly?

I did not get a RFE for my K-3. Is that normal?

I am more confused about this process than ever. However, I am tickled silly after getting the approval notice. So, perhaps I should let sleeping dogs lie.. haha...

Thanks for any insites others here have to offer.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionUS Embassy in Cambodia is open again
I was surfing the Embassy websites this Xmas and I noticed that Cambodians that apply for Immigrant Visas do not need to go to Thailand anymore. Here is the Press Release:

"Press Release
Resumption of Immigrant Visa Processing by U.S. Embassy Phnom Penh
On February 1, 2007, the United States Embassy in Phnom Penh will begin processing immigrant, diversity and fiancée visas for Cambodian citizens, resuming a function currently being performed by the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand.

Until December 29, 2006, Embassy Bangkok will continue to process Cambodian immigrant, diversity and fiancée visas, and all inquiries about immigrant and fiancée visas must still be addressed to the Bangkok Consular Section (visasbkk@state.gov) until that date.

During January 2007, Cambodian immigrant visa processing will be on hold. The Cambodia Immigrant Visa Unit in Bangkok will close on December 29, 2006 to prepare cases for transfer to Phnom Penh. Applicants with pending cases should not return to the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok with requested documentation or to make inquiries after January 5, 2007. Emergency requests for information, however, may still be addressed to the U.S. Embassy at visasbkk@state.gov throughout the January transition period.

After the transfer to Phnom Penh, all new immigrant, diversity and fiancée visa interviews will continue to be handled by appointment only. As before, applicants will be individually notified of their processing schedule. Further instructions for pending cases will be available on the embassy website after the transfer period. The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh will not be able to accept public inquiries regarding Cambodian immigrant, diversity or fiancée visas until February 1. After February 1, inquiries should be directed to visasphp@state.gov.

Please note that the return of immigrant visa processing to the United States Embassy in Phnom Penh does not affect the U.S. Government moratorium on processing orphan immigrant visas (IR3 and IR4). The Phnom Penh Embassy Consular Section cannot process orphan immigrant visa applications until the moratorium is lifted.

Released December 22, 2006."

I presently have a case pending for a Cambodian wife and I am waiting for the generation of the DS-230. The NVC keeps the 6-8 weeks before that happens. I wonder if it is because of this 1 month transistion period?

This is good news for us, the change that is. Now I just need to seen more movement on our paperwork..

Enjoy
