United KingdomAddress for London Embassy
Hi Nick, I just posted this on another thread but after seeing Sara's post, I have the same questions...I have just recently joined but have been reading all your posts the past 7 months to help with the K1 process. It's made a stressful process so much easier, thanks to all your posts. My fiance got the NOA2 on July 9th so I am just waiting for contact from the embassy in London now...I have been reading this page with all the FAQS for some time now & got my fiance to complete the I-134 & start on the next set of forms etc :

http://www.visajourn...pplication.html

I just wanted to check that to everyone's best knowledge, the advice here is all up to date & applies to the UK? I find the London embassy website rather confusing because although it tells you what forms to download & fill out, it doesn't seem to clearly explain which forms you send when & which you hold onto until the interview etc. Can I just clarify that as soon as I get contact from them, I am just posting back the DS-230 form? I have almost everything I need from the document check list except my police report & my fiance is gathering evidence to support the I-134 so until all that is done & physically in my hands, I am not going to send the DS-2001. So again just to clarify, I just post back the DS-230 & hold onto the DS-156, DS-157 & DS-156K? I was also confused by some links that said I should submit all my supporting documents with the DS-230 but then others say I hold onto these & only take them with me to the interview? Does this mean that I need to send photocopies of my birth certificate etc with the DS forms? I know original documents are required at the interview stage as well as a copy of each. Also as I am about to order my police report & it's obviously not free, do I need more than one copy? Is this the only stage during the whole process (including AOS & after...) that I will need to show a police report or should I pay the extra charge to get an additional copy to take with me once I move to the US? Anything I am wrong about or have missed out? Sorry about all the questions! Thank you

Yes, you can book the medical without that letter, you obviously have your LND case number that's all you need.

Thanks Sara. My "packet 3" letter arrived today finally! When I phoned up DOS on Monday, they said it had been posted on Friday so it took it's time! Either way, I sent all my DS forms off already except 2001 & am now awaiting the arrival of my police report before I book my official medical. I also am getting my vaccine records on Monday. Thanks everyone for the advice & help!

United KingdomOlympics causing London slow down ??

I just had my interview in London today, and couldn't believe how easy it was to get around and I was dreading it because of the olympics. The taxi driver said he wasn't experiencing any problems.

Congrats Adette! So happy for you :) When are you planning to leave?...let's hope all Leeds ladies have luck on their side! ;)

Are you waiting on the packet 3 letter? They are sent regular post (snail mail) so you may have to stalk the postman everyday like I did

I going to London Thursday morning for my interview, so I'll report back how busy it was or if there were any delays.

Snail mail lol...as Nick said, I won't wait for the letter but it's good to know they are working on my case & it's not sat gathering dust. Good luck on your interview & yes please do report back :)

You don't have to receive the letter to mail your forms. There is nothing in the letter you need except information which you've already learned from the forums. DOS has confirmed London has your case logged and even that a letter has gone out. GO!!!(if you have everything filled out and printed.)

Thanks Nich-Nick. I should have everything filled out by tonight to be ready to post tomorrow. I just can't send my DS-2001 back yet as I am awaiting my I-134 from my fiance with supporting evidence but in the meantime I can get my medical done. Do I need the letter to book my medical though? I read on someone else's post that I did?

United KingdomOlympics causing London slow down ??

I have heard from several people that so many people are either working from home, on holiday, or going to the Olympics themselves, that the trains and tube are noticeably quieter than normal during rush hour. Possibly the main interchanges going to the venues are busier, but I'll get a better idea when I come through London Bridge on the train this evening.

I have heard the same from friends & family who live in London. They have all been panicking & setting off from home extra early but their journey hasn't taken them longer than usual..let's hope this last! Just phoned the DOS & the embassy posted me a letter on Friday! Do they arrive in the regular post or are they couriered? I am assuming regular post as I cannot imagine how many letters they post out everyday & the $$$ it would cost them to Fedex them all. Come on Royal Mail!

As recommended by kittylondon, I phoned DOS using skype, for 3.5 mins I paid 0.11£!!!! so would strongly recommending buying some credit for it and use it that way! ;)

Thanks Sara, I have a free line to call any US landlines though so hopefully it doesn't charge me any extra. Will give them a call :)

United KingdomOlympics causing London slow down ??

I phoned today DOS and they told me that London Embassy has sent my packet 3 two days ago. I think it might not effect THAT much in terms of waiting time. It's gonna be more of a pain travelling to central london..

I had no idea you could phone & check on whether the embassy had sent your packet yet...I wasn't about to call the embassy with their 1.23p per minute phone number! I saw the phone number Nich-Nick posted yesterday so I am definitely going to call. I know my case was sent to London by the NVC on the 18th & I got my LND number...

For proof of income I am taking

- tax transcripts
- letter from employer (how long there, position held, salary etc)
- pay slips

I would suggest you ask questions in the thread linked above though.

Good luck with the rest of the process

I will do so, thanks again

Agree.

My fiancé won't go for the medical exam until after the games have wrapped. He hates crowds as it is.

Yeah London will just be a nightmare for commuters right now...

Every case is different, I wouldn't worry about it having "that" much of an effect.

If you are smart you can still save some time, suggest reading this thread http://www.visajourn...terview-thread/

Many thanks for that link, it's really helpful. I have already been filling out the overwhelming form DS-230 & will be ordering my police report & getting vaccines done shortly...I just wanted to ask about the I-134? My fiance was going to submit all his recent pay cheques, he earns over 6 figures & until I can work in the US, I will be living off savings & his support. Are his pay cheques enough evidence as I keep reading differing answers & now see that a tax return copy would also be beneficial?

Thanks

United KingdomOlympics causing London slow down ??

There's the memo that was posted on the embassy's site: http://london.usemba...isanews014.html

Also, one of my senator's immigration staffer told me something similar a few weeks ago: "As I am sure you know, London will be hosting the 2012 Olympic Games in a couple more weeks. Due to the presence of the Olympics, visa operations at the U.S. Embassy in London will not be at full capacity during July and August. Unfortunately, since visa officers will be diverted to other duties during the Olympics you might experience a delay in the scheduling of your fiancé’s K-1 visa interview."

Hi there,
Thanks for the info. This is very disheartening but I guess it's out of our control :/

United KingdomOlympics causing London slow down ??

I did actually read about there being a slow-down right now, even with still 6 weeks to the games.

How lame an excuse, London won't be coming to a standstill.
Leave for work earlier then if you are affected by transport issues.
These folk have got it easy or what?

Or maybe I just used to work for a dictator

Hi everyone,
I am new here. This forum has helped me so much since we filed in January. I just received our NOA2 on the 9th & called the NVC on Monday, after a long hold, a kind lady said our application had been sent to the embassy in London via DHL on the 18th & gave me our new case number. She said that she obviously couldn't comment on the time scales for the embassy & that I should just wait to hear from them. So now I am just waiting for my packet 3...I have been reading all your posts & naturally stressing about the time scales at the embassy. I just wanted to know if it was definitely confirmed that there will be delays? Has an official statement been posted by the embassy apologising for the delays etc? My fiance came to visit on the 4th & left on Friday. I naturally didn't go back with him for another visit (this would be my 3rd) as last time I went over (April 18th) the immigration officer in Chicago was lovely but advised me that while our case is pending, any more than 2 visits can be flagged & an FBI background check can be done which just slows down the whole process so he said not to take the risk & visit again. Also I know that hopefully I could get my packet 3 anyway so visiting now would be foolish. I know a lot of you can sympathise with the heartbreak of being separated from the one you love for months on end...I just hate the waiting.
I'd appreciate any your words of advice or encouragement.

United KingdomHow to get a mobile phone set up in the USA / Interview

How much is the cancellation fee? If its not too bad it could be worth it or you could find someone to take up your contract and keep your phone? Its so odd because its the same company, I would have thought they would have switched you to a plan in the US that was akin to the one you were on?

I spoke to o2 and they have sent me details of how to unlock my blackberry but its far too complicated for me and I wouldnt trust myself to do it. I am going to go into the o2 shop and have them do it for me (at least they are responsible if it goes wrong). T Mobile seem to have good plans and not too different to what I am paying for my blackberry in the UK.
If you are with o2 on their simplicity plan, you can cancel your contract (with thirty days notice) and they will let you keep your old number by sending out a pay as you go sim, which you can top up and use when you come back to the UK. That will mean when you visit you will always have a phone to use here. Bad news for me is my contact finishes the day before I hope to fly out so I will have to use the pay and go sim and pay my bill still. If you can time it just right, its pretty good.

The cancellation fee is basically what I would have had to pay each month until my contract is up. I have about 5 months left so roughly £150. I don't have an interview yet but I am hoping it will be sometime next month so looking to move in October possibly. Yeah I was disappointed they couldn't help me out but they talked me through the option of giving my contract to someone else to not waste money but it is stupid seen as it's the same company. They said even though they are technically the same company, they are run totally separate to the UK company.

Unlocking BB's is tricky so you're right to go to the shop. My fiance says he will put me on his phone plan which his work gets subsidised for him which is great for me. I also have to give 30 days notice to cancel, didn't ask about keeping my old number but I do have a spare Virgin sim lying around somewhere for when I come back to visit. Are you not keeping your UK bank account active just in case you ever need it? If there's any bills to go out after my cancellation, they will go from my account which I won't be closing.

United KingdomHow to get a mobile phone set up in the USA / Interview

I am just about to call T mobile UK & enquire about transferring my contract over there. I am in the midst of my 18 month contract over here so I would have to terminate it & pay the cancellation fee. I believe it's possible to transfer your contract to T Mobile US though but I am going to find out if it's beneficial financially as it might be cheaper for me to get a new contract out there using my UK phone, providing I get it unlocked.

I also used AT & T pay as you go every time I visited & it was great. The SIM is valid for 12 months once you purchase it. $50 credit per month gives you unlimited texts & calls within the US. An additional $10 gives you 100 mins per month to call any UK land line so you can keep in touch with everyone at home & if you choose to unlock your UK phone & put the pay as you go SIM in, not all the features will work unless you add on another $10 for a data package. I just used the simple $20 handset that comes with the SIM as I hadn't unlocked my UK phone yet but I will once I move. So that's $70 a month which my fiance said was great value as he already has gets a subsidised bill through his work & he still pays more. Calling the UK is expensive unless you get a call abroad package. Not all my friends & family use skype so it was a good option for me.

Bad news guys, after being on hold for about 28 mins lol, they informed me that although they used to do a contract transfer service between the UK & US, it wasn't popular so they stopped doing it Posted Image
So I will either pass my contract on to a friend or family member or pay the cancellation fee. I got the unlock code though so I can use my handset over there & it was only £15. Most contracts in the US allow you to add your spouse/family to your phone plan so that's what my fiance is going to do.
