CanadaProblems with P3 at Montreal?

Not really sure how that happened that you got your interview so early, but congratulations smile.gif

Just when I think this process can't confuse me anymore...

Thanks smile.gif

I do feel a little bad for everyone else who's been waiting, tho...It doesn't seem fair that there are so many people ahead of us who are still waiting for their interview. It's not really fair that this part of the process seems as though the lucky few are just pulled out of a hat...

Could make for an interesting experiment... if others sent their P3s back with all the paperwork & see how fast they get an interview. Then again, could be a fluke, who knows!

Maybe I'll send a box full of my stuff! devil.gif

Who knows - maybe it really does make a difference! Bet it can't hurt to send too much stuff in...

Correct me if I'm wrong but it isn't a big deal as long as he signed the checklist and sent them all of the required forms. The packet would have been good for his reference when preparing for his interview... but Thank God for VJ, we can always help out if there are any questions.

The only problem that might come up is when he goes for his medical. Usually you bring your packet 4 letter to the Medical but they do accept the packet 3 cover letter instead. So, he will need either one of those for that.

Thanks for the help!

He's already done the medical, so that's at least out of the way.

He's still a bit nervous about the whole thing, but I think we'll be ok. There have to be people who've sent everything in before. And I get the impression that the Montreal interview's not too difficult.

(Easy for me to say, tho...I don't have to go happy.gif)

CanadaProblems with P3 at Montreal?
After reading some of the Montreal consulate reviews, my fiance realized that he may have done something wrong in sending in his packet 3. He thought he was supposed to send all of the paperwork in along with the form, so now the consulate has all his paperwork. The packet has already been recieved - delivery confirmation - and it's been there for over a week and he hasn't heard anything back yet. We're assuming that they'll contact him if there's anything wrong...right??

Anyone else mis-read these directions? Are we screwed or will it be ok?

CanadaCongratulations Toastburglar - visa approved on Friday!
QUOTE (Toastburglar @ Jun 17 2008, 09:18 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hey all!
I've been avoiding posting my review because I really don't know what to say. I took the train to Montreal, and was pretty sick by the time I got there (because that always happens when I don't sleep). The train was delayed 7 hours, so I walked right to the hotel (La Tour Centre Ville) and went to sleep when I got to Montreal. I was 3rd in line at the consulate the next morning (I got there a little after 7, I think). I was behind Joni and her husband and Melissa, who are both on VJ somewhere too. They let us in, we went through security, I was letter C. I got called to the window, I gave my medical envelope, the xpresspost envelope, my adoption papers and my passport to a cranky lady.
In my file she had there were passport pictures of me in a little stapled plastic bag, I guess NVC must have put them in there that way. She acted annoyed at the staples and handed the bag to me, made me take out the staples and put them in a little ziplock bag. I was really confused because I had brought passport pictures with me, so I asked if she wanted them too, but she gave me an exasperated look and said "just give me the bag!" So I slid the pictures back in the ziplock bag. It was really weird, I never used the passport pictures I brought with me.
Anyways, I sat in the waiting room for a long time with the others, I probably talked waaaay too much out of nerves. I finally got fingerprinted and then waited again for about an hour. I got called into the interview room, the guy was really nice. We joked around about how I was left handed so I wouldn't be able to go to the US because they already had too many left-handed people, and I should learn how to pitch if I wanted to get in. He actually asked me quite a few questions about PEI, then about my husband's work. It was pretty conversational.
The only surprise was that he said I should have gotten a police certificate done under my married name. I explained that I have never used my husband's last name for anything, but he didn't seem to care. He said he would let it pass as long as I swore to him that I had never been arrested. It was really weird.
But anyways, he approved me.
I went back to the hotel and checked out, and walked to the train station and waited for my train back home.
I am still sick with some kind of lung infection thing.
The end smile.gif
Oh, and I got my visa in the mail yesterday. Interview Friday, visa on Monday. . . how's that for service?

Yeah!!!! Congrats!!!

It's awesome that you got the visa so soon!!

CanadaGood POE for getting the EAD?
Still not sure when Chris is coming down yet, but he wanted to know about a good point of entry - especailly one that would give him the EAD (I think I got the abbreviation right?)

He's coming from Montreal and driving down to Lexington, KY. I remembered seeing people talking about the Peace Bridge, but he didn't want to drive all the way over to Buffalo.

Anyone know of a good place in the general area to enter the US?

Awwww Thanks so much, everyone!!!

I only just saw this thread now *sheepish grin*

I didn't get to go with FH to the interview 'cause we only got about a week's notice, but he said it went really well. He had to wait quite a while, but the interview itself only took about 10 mins. The interviewer only asked a couple questions about our relationship - when we met and where I work - and that the majority of her questions were military-related. (FH was in the Canadian Naval Reserves and is just finishing up his obligation.) I'll try to get him to write a better review here soon smile.gif

He was told he'd get his visa in about two weeks, though hopefully it's sooner!!

Thanks again, everyone!!!!!!!!

That would be soooooo very awesome!! smile.gif We've heard rumors that this is possible, but had no idea how to go about it. The only option seemed to be paying a fortune to antique dealers in Canada to get them appraised and to have his parents bring them down...

Does he play hockey? Take up refereeing. Maybe not much hockey where u are though.

He's been in Naval Reserves since he was 16. When we met he was doing base security in B.C. and then transferred to the recruit school at St. Jean, Montreal. He had a lot of interesting stories smile.gif

Thanks sooo much everyone!! I think VJ is hubby's new favorite site - he was so impressed by all the nice responses smile.gif

I think we've got a few ideas of things for him to do...There are a couple driving ranges in town; hopefully he meets some friends to go golfing with there. He's also going to come to work with me tomorrow (I'm a police dispatcher) and do a ride-along with the officers. I think he'd enjoy that and if he makes friends with my cop co-workers, at least I'd know they won't be getting into trouble smile.gif Plus maybe they can take him shooting and so forth. Not a whole lot of volunteering to be done, I think, but I hadn't thought of classes at the Y - also something he might enjoy. He's even talked about helping out for a political party - ironic, considering he can't vote!

Unfortunatly we live in a reeeeally tiny apartment, so there's no fixing-up to be done, but we will be moving in about a month so lately he's been starting to pack things into boxes. I haven't been able to talk him into making a dent in all the cleaning that has to be done, tho...I think that might have to be a group activity or something lol

Hey all -

Been married now for just over a week (Laura - we got hitched the day right after you and Nick!)

It's been great, but I'm a bit concerned about my wonderful husband - he's rather frustrated with the lack of things he can legally do! I work 12-hr night shifts, so there's very little for him to do while I'm at work, and not much to do during the day while I'm sleeping. We spend a lot of time together on my days off, but sadly there's not much to do in Lexington, Kentucky. wacko.gif

He enjoys shooting sports, but of course the ATF wouldn't let him being his guns over (They are vitange WW1 Canadian Army weapons...anyone else run into a similar problem?). He also likes golf, but has no friends around here to play with. Since I'm the only one who can work, we hate to spend a lot of money, but I also don't want him to have to sit around the apartment with nothing to do - espcially since we haven't yet filed for AOS! *groan*

Any of you in similar situations find ways to keep your SO occupied?? Help please!!

Now I make sure to go down BEFORE it's due to finish so I can guard my undergarments LOL

Ewwww...creepy!! Or maybe there's a bra thief loose in your building - a good bra is really hard to come by sometimes.

I won't take people's stuff out of the dryer...mostly because I wouldn't want them touching my stuff. Sure it's clean, but you never know what kind of weirdo might get their hands on your undies or whatever blink.gif That, and the fact that I'd rather keep my mouth shut than start a confrontation.

Hubby, on the other hand, has no qualms about confronting anyone who annoys him in the slightest - he'd probably take someone's clothes out before the time was up...and even dump them on the floor for good measure!

We are such opposites sometimes; but we seem to balance each other out quite well so it all works out in the end smile.gif

Yep, totally serious. Because its a "pagan" holiday and its evil, so most churches here will have parties for the kids to keep them off the streets, so no one goes trick or treating. I've been here for 4 Halloweens now, and this year was the first time we had a trick or treater show up. Its a kid down the street who has no friends and has decided that James is his friend. He stopped by here before he went to church. We had no candy of course, because we've never had any trick or treaters.

Some towns around us have trick or treat, but a lot here in the bible belt don't I'd guess.

Thanks smile.gif

He definitely responds to Kane, so I wanted to get a nametag that said "Charles Foster Kane" on it; that way we could call him Kane or Charlie, like they do in the movie smile.gif

Yes, I am a nerd.

I still like Orson, but he doesn't answer to it at all. Hubby liked Horatio, but he doesn't respond to that. Plus he doesn't have red fur, which I think ought to be a pre-req for any animal named after a David Kelly character smile.gif

He does respond to Sherlock on occasion, so we've thought about calling him that. My mother-in-law suggested we start calling him "Sherlock Kane," then after he's used to both names, we'd drop the Kane part. Hopefully then he'd respond to Sherlock.

But until then, he's still Kane. I don't know why, but it sounds very weird...

I am proud to announce that we are now parents of this very sweet kitty:

[attachment=8739:01.JPG]

[attachment=8740:02.JPG]

He was the oldest cat at the shelter (11 years!) But hubby totally fell in love with him, and we were worried that maybe he wouldn't get adopted since everyone wants kittens or younger cats. It's certainly true tho - you don't pick a cat, a cat picks you!!

Now, of course, comes the task of trying to name him...

His shelter name was "Kane," but we both want something different. Here is our list so far:

Rhodesia
Lovecraft (as in H.P.)
Cinder
Horatio (Cane. as in CSI Miami smile.gif)
Orson (Welles, creator of "Citizen Kane" smile.gif)
Winston and/or Churchill
Enfield (yes, as in the rifle. This was hubby's idea.)
Chimera
Elysium
D'Elormie (tragic bridegroom from an Edgar Allen Poe poem)
Mephistopheles
It is I, Le Clerc (from 'Allo 'Allo smile.gif)
Spam (from Monty Python)
Eric the cat (See above)
Holmes
Mycroft

I think choosing the name is harder than choosing the cat...Any suggestions?

I don't know if you and your husband will go for this idea, but since you're in a small apartment, get a cat right now. Maybe a dog later on. However, since your husband really likes dogs -- and he's bored out of his mind waiting for the time in which he can work -- why doesn't he volunteer at your local animal shelter? This way, he can spend some time with dogs (many of them need help!) and do something during the day that keeps him busy. smile.gif

We were talking about volunteering at the shelter, actually! Altho his driver's lisence has expried and we're waiting on the EAD to get a new one, so I'd have to drive him sad.gif But still might be a good idea - gets him out of the house and he's got a puppy fix too! lol
