Being pregnant and alone has been so tough.. especially with no family close by. I havent had one spoiled pregnancy moment... just working all the time and driving myself to my amnio and everything...I am just looking foward to not having to face all of this alone anymore...Being sick pregnant and alone has been overwhelming

I am just happy he is shopping and he is leaving Algeria tomorrow for a new life with me

Wow, I can not imagine how excited you are right now. I think it is a feeling that is unexplainable, in any post that could be written. I am right there with you being alone during your pregnancy and not having any help at all. Spoiled pregnancy moments, I am not sure what it is, every doctors visit and test doing it by yourself is extremely overwhelming. I am so happy that you two will be together again, I wish you both so much happiness as this next part of your relationship begins. luv.gif

Middle East and North AfricaME/NA Discrimination
I will tell you that no one has said anything to me, there are probably several reasons why, but perhaps they are scared that I would do something to them blush.gif . This is truthful and not the norm I know. I think where I live and being an African-American Muslim running around Las Vegas modestly dressed and in a head covering just does something to others around me. I will tell you in the places I visit often (the store, post office, ect...) I have found people will say more then have a good day, and say have a "Blessed Day"! What does this mean I do not know, but I take it as a sign of respect on my part. Even in traveling, at the airport nothing is said to me, but then again who wants to say something to disrespectful when young children are around you. Now I know a few sisters in the area that have had issues with this. I try to help them as much as possible, especially since rights of your appearance is a right you have! We will see what experiences my husband has when he arrives and experiences the USA!

more births by c-sections has nothing to do with not wanting to keep women in the hospital for too long either-having a c-section usually more than doubles the time women spend in hospital post birth. but it certainly lowers a dr.'s liability($$$) if there are complications with the baby.

QUOTE (wahrania @ May 21 2008, 02:20 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
But Drs love them because they reduce their liability and then make a ton of more money on them.

I knew it! I've noticed how considerably higher c-sections are here compared to my home country, and I was wondering why that is...I would not want to have a c section, I guess whenever we decide to start having kids I'll be very careful to find a doctor that understands how I feel about it and is willing to adapt to what I want.

Saludos,
Caro

Most doctors opt for a c-section as the last resort. My first was a c-section because he was breeched (turned upside) and never descended into the pelvic area for delivery. My c-section was schedule the last day almost the last day a person could be pregnant post 40 weeks! My second was a repeated due to the high risk of having a v-back and breaking the incision area (specially here where there is an OB shortage almost all docs opt for this, now they are becoming more optimistic of the liability issues), which could lead to major blood loss, unplanned hysterectomy or even death! This baby depends, I could schedule or I could labor we will know more when I am at 35 weeks (wow that is in 10 weeks!).

As a side note someone asked about a scar from this procedure, once your skin is cute under several layers you will have a scar, but most doctors do bikini cuts so unless your running around naked or staring in some xrated movies no one notices it. There may still be some docs doing the old cuts, mid way up the abdomen horizontal instead of vertical n the bikini area

Does anyone know or heard about if you rather use breast pumps vs direct breastfeeding does it break bonding between mother and baby?> or is it considerably the same?

my baby is totally bonded to me because of breastfeeding .. but she will suck from a bottle as well which is a very good thing .. we only give her breast milk though .. we found that other milk makes her throw up (infamil with iron)

One of the formulas that works well with breastfed babies is ISOMIL . If you have to switch to formula or just get tired of breastfeeding... You can switch to a non milk based formula and that will help with the throwing up

Ill tell you what. EBAY has the best prices on these pumps. You can buy one for the cost that some of these companies are charging monthly for rentals. Often moms start out with great intentions, buy all the gear and just get sick of it. I breast fed my son but I was just too sick with my daughter to breast feed and just felt too exhausted to even pump or deal with it. I was very successful with my son and even hand pumped... I think its important not to make the moms feel like ####### for the choices they make. I think I will be fine breastfeeding this one ....but I always point out that its a personal choice and if you end up bottle feeding for one reason or another you are not a bad mom

Come on you know you want to try it everyone these days are doing it!!!!! rofl.gif The doctor yesterday said also around the 37 week he would be ready for my baby to come out (he is funny that way).

When I was done breasting feeding (before they were 1 year old) I switched to carnation good start formula. They never had any problems in switch to this this brand which provided a few extra proteins for digestion. Now they changed the name to Nestle (I think) I know they have a completely different package too. It was right when the brand came out and infamil was the most popular.

Are you certain your work doesn't already have one? I found out by sheer accident (was looking for a room to pray in) that we have a "mother's room" on the floor below us fully equipped with a hospital type pump that apparently (per the moms that I know use it) is super powerful. Might want to just ask around before spending the $$$.

breast pumps should not be shared

Yes this is the same pump I have had for almost 6 years. I just need to buy the disposable parts that are new. As far as sharing a large unit, it is fine you just have to provide your own disposable parts. I have seen this at major cooperations, where they have a mommy room, and a few larger breast units. Women have said it was nice to go and relax at work while doing this (instead of feeling stressed). Medela has a few different models which range in size, I recommend a double pump as oppose to a single one, my oldest I had just a single one and it becomes more time to pump bag, etc...Also check to make sure they pump comes in a nice cooler storage unit. Mine were great size and kept quiet cold (freezing) while driving home in the desert heat.

Very interesting about making a boy, although it really is dependent on the man's sex chromosome! I have read several articles, from sex positions to foods the women eats that predicts gender. I will say this although I am not sure of the exact number statistically speaking, but generally 50% of men will produce the same amount of X and Y chromosomes, while 25% will produce more X and 25% will produce more Y. reading.gif

On another note, stretch marks are completely dependent on genetics. If your mother did not have them and your grandmother, your chances of not getting them increases. With time and vitamin treatment they will fade, but if they were light to begin with then of course they may appear to disappear too.

For nausea there are so many remedies out there to sleeping with one leg hanging of the bed to eating ginger from the root. I know I have tried many and nothing worked rolleyes.gif

Middle East and North AfricaHi from Lebanon!
I too had the option to presue the CR/1 but kept the K3. If memory serves me right (which sometimes it doesn't) you have to contact NVC to pursue just the I-130 portion. It doesn't happen automatically since they are basically holding it until your husband arrives to adjust status.

Stay safe.

Middle East and North AfricaI am geting so discouraged
Hi Michelle,

I will tell you it seems with Casa hit or miss and is depended on the CO at the time of the interview. We have been over the 60 day with our AP and so has three other couples we know who had the same CO during that interview week. Other CO's the weeks before were rolling them out within 2-4 weeks and even after. When will it be over who can really answer except for the CO who is suppose to be working the case. I know I am at the end of my rope in dealing and waiting, specially since the CO knows I will be having a c-section in a few weeks it even burns me up more that its dragged on this long. So being anxious just comes with the territory. This process is not so cookie cutter for each case and very individualized, despite protocols set in place to make it appear as smooth as possible. If I was you I would hold out until Ramadon and then make a trip over if you feel its necessary and can afford the time off. Heck I wish I could be there now, but its not possible, plus even after the baby is due it takes up to six weeks to get a passport or is it twelve weeks. I am not sure and will have to see, I just pray that will not be necessary to go back because my husband is not here yet, but just to see family.

Take Care,

How do you address issues like large age difference? Neither of us has a previous marriage or kids so those aren't issues, however we do have a large age difference(he is 16 years younger than me) and we did get married soon after meeting. We have lots of photos, receipts, emails, chat logs, etc. but I am wondering if there is anything else I should prepare or if I should contact my senators or reps - Hillary should have some time free now so maybe she could help us..... whistling.gif

I'm 21 years older than my husband, we married within days of meeting IRL, and he got his visa the day after his interview. They looked at none of our evidence; his interview lasted about 10 minutes.

The thing with age gap unions is that the USCIS knows your ages from the time they receive the I-130, and (officially) they are not to deny you on things they already know and approved by passing your petition onto the NVC. They are also (theoretically) not to deny you based on how they feel about the viability of your marriage, but on whether you are a proper sponsor and not a obvious (to them) victim of green card fraud. Otherwise, who knows?

See I do not think that red flag like age or length of courtship is even considered, since if both of you are Muslim a long engagement is not the norm. And with age difference we have 3 years difference and it did not stop us from being wrapped up waiting for the CO to issue visa. Even the time knowing, the amount of evidence, the number of trips none of those it seems like really matters or effects when the visa will be issued. Perhaps the biggest issue is in what capacity the internet was used in your courtship, who knows exactly but there is not one answer.

I too know of a few denials off hand. They were straight denials and then had to repetition over again, one with success the other two did not have success. Denials are for obvious reasons. I had not heard of denial as an end result of AP/AR just taking the maximum time allowed for this to occur. I think its 1 year then you file some form with that results in immediate issue of visa. (not sure about this one)

Having a back up plan is the best way to go about life. Regardless of the possibility of any outcome. As far as who you contact, your local represent of congress is your best bet. I had more luck with my senator then my congress rep but each state is different.

Sincerly .

Yes back in April and May several (K1, K3) of us did pay this way at the BMCI it can be local or near the consulate. You will have a receipt for this that they will ask for during your interview. Hope this helps.

Middle East and North AfricaMale Circumcision
QUOTE (Carolyn @ Jul 15 2008, 07:28 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi all,
I do not yet know if I'm having a boy or girl, but my husband and I have been talking about circumcision just in case. At first we talked about just getting it done here at the hospital, but now he is saying he would like to wait and have it done in Morocco with a big ceremony, etc.

While I love the idea of going to Morocco to visit and spend time with his family, I do have some concerns about the circumcision there...

First of all--is it hygenic? Simo told me that he had his done when he was 4 years old (ouch!) and they used a scissors! He remembers that day very vividly...

Second, how long should one wait to have it done? Tickets to Morocco, at least during the high seasons, are ridiculously expensive right now, and I don't see us coming into any large sums of money soon (lottery, anyone?). I can imagine it taking us at least a year or two to have enough money to travel.

Third, do they use anesthesia/some sort of a local painkiller? I would hate to see my babe in pain...

I'm sure there are other questions I haven't thought of yet. If anyone has any insight I would appreciate it. I may be thinking about this unnecessarily (if we have a girl), but I'm sure others have dealt with this issue.

Shukran bezzef,
Carolyn

HI Carolyn,

This is the exact same question that has come up in conversations as our time nears too. I will tell you that when I was there last summer, my other sons are not circumcised and they had inquired on how to get it done with a huge ceremony and party (any excuse for that) from a peds doctor there in Morocco that would come to the house. Of course I just gave them the look as if no one is touching my son's privates if they want to live. Any doctor will tell you the younger the better. Less memory of the procedure and pain. Hospitals typical will perform right after birth. Check with your peds doc on how they normally go about with this just in case. My doc doesn't recommend for it to be done in the hospital but in his office he is particular about his patients and has lots of expereince in even doing the procedures in homes when requested (for religious reasons). Good luck with what you decide!

ya think???

I'll never understand why you older women bring these immature children over here, when you know that they only want a green card and a job to send money back home.

Anyone who cant accept the responsibility of being a father needs some serious help.

There are 100's of thousand USC that need some serious help on this matter for not taking responsibilities for their own children.

Oliva I agree with you on this, in respect to marrying to better their lives. I have scene this in many situations that are not just about green cards, like a couple who marries so its easier for one to go though law school or medical school while the other works or marrying to combine income together to have the things you want in life. Love is part of it too but so is it to make your lives better and your family.

Okay so my husband made it though JFK and his next flight painlessly I was so worried when he was arriving, specially since he did not call me. But come to find out all the terminal doors are closed if your not in by a certain hour, so he had to go to each one before he found a nice comfy place to rest. I have to admit I did not realize how wonderful it would be to have my husband here. He has been a big help to me and insists on doing everything. I did not even know he knew how to cook since he talks about how he burned some food when he attempted and the times I was with him he just translated to his family items I needed when cooking, lol. He reminds me that I am pregnant and shouldn't do anything at all!!! yes.gif Perhaps all these months of me complaining of how much I have to do really was listened too laughing.gif We have done so much except we have not really gone around for him to know the area better as far as getting around (he did get lost the other night during his night running), but he has been to the doctor's appointment, H&R Block (to finally do the taxes), DMV (its just a permit but he can drive me around), and every baby store you can imagine, lol really. This week is all about completing the list to prepare for the del. I will go in to have the baby either the 26 or 27 the doctor did not confirm which date for the c-section yet, plus now he is on vacation so I have to wait to hear back from him. I am so sorry.

I don't condone violence of any kind; but I can't say I wouldn't have done the same.

I hope you make the descions that are right for you. I wish you only the best.

I too do not condone the violence, but man I can see how someone would loss it. I think you lost it in a nice way for me it might have been worse whistling.gif I am sorry that you had to go though this and I pray for the best outcome for you in this situation.

I am sorry for what you had to go through.

Try to stay calm until he goes back and the embassy will review the documents. If they will approve the visa in this case I would say they are very lenient.
If he is denied then insist that you see the chief consul to review the decision right there, if he won't overturn it ask for a waiver form for misrepresentation. At that point go to the immigrate2us site and study what is involved in processing the waiver and hardship letter.
Hire the best attorney to guide you through it.
It is expensive and very time consuming to prepare the waiver and can take 6-9 months more or less to find out if it is approved. From what you have said he should definitely qualify for a waiver for misrepresentation if denied.

Best wishes rose.gif

Thanks for that!! Wow 6-9 months???? And is it going to stay at the consulate this whole time then?

I've decided what I may do is call the consulate directly this wek after they have had time to receive the paperwork. I will request to speak to teh consular officer directly whom I spoke to before. I am going to tell him basically my side of the story and how we ended kup in the immigration process. The bottom lilne is I am just as unhappy with tehm accusing my husband of using me for a green card as my husband is. I want them to KNOW that and know the correct story. As for the misrepresentation, now that I've gotten my husband side of the story...and like I said, I know he is capable of making such a foolish decision.....I am going to explain this to the CO. Since they said they would leave it up to my decision of whetehr I wanted to continue and they'd continue processing...we will see what that givs us.
And what will happen if the CO denies us? Will I get osmething in mail or only my husband? If it's only my husband, that should be very fun with his english him reading an entire denial letter covered in his tears:(

I am just amazed how the consulate has been so far, even to accept to continue with the case and say its left in your hands. I wonder if that is the standard or if the CO really wants to help in this situation or not. In either case good luck with the process.

Middle East and North AfricaWho will pop first?
Wow so much action since I have been gone. Glad to see some more babies have been born how exciting. Can not wait to here the names!!!! kicking.gif
And for us its in, we had a beautiful daughter Friday afternoon. I will not kid anyone my c-section was the worst I have had vomiting, tugging, etc....but in the end it is all worth it to see our precious Nahla Lina in my arms. It will be a hard few weeks for recovery with me but baby is healthy. 8lbs 10 oz and 21 inches long. My husband has been the best he enjoys taking care of both his girls the past few days. Even though he is fasting and praying he takes care of us with a smile and so much love. I will share some pics after he downloads them on the computer, plus if your on my space and know me you can check them there first blush.gif

Take Care,

Middle East and North AfricaWho will pop first?
I am still here, now I am back up and running with the computer. We had a virus I forgot to let my husband know the Norton had expired. When he arrived home its clear my mind was busy on everything but keeping up with the computer system updated. Anyways both desktop and laptop had some virus on it. We got the desktop fixed up my husband reformatted everything and the lap top I just sent it in since its under warranty still. I’ve been on and off line with my work computer but have been so busy trying to prepare before classes start so I have less to do the first week with the baby. So, no baby for us yet. I did see the beautiful pics though they are so cute. I did not get scheduled for my c-section in time and by the time the doctor was back from vacation the earliest I could get was Sept 5 crying.gif on the due date. Every day I think I am in labor but nothing significant for me to go to the hospital for an “emergency” c-section. So Friday will be our day, Inshallah all will be fine.
