CanadaIn these Olympics, Canadians only paid attention to Canada.
Hmm... maybe my #######-a$$ from Georgia, which has also lived in Louisiana, and Mississippi, and Colorado, and Texas, and Michigan should have written that article? There are portions of it that I completely agree with. Of course NBC showed mostly American games, as it is after all an American TV station. Personally experiencing the "it is us against you" or "me against you" mentality was disheartening.

CanadaMoving to the US Summary List/ Canadian Immigration Guide
This has some very useful information! Thank you!

However, I got a great giggle out of the grocery items that you cannot get in the US. There are quite a few items on there that are indeed available in multiple regions of the US, i.e. KitKat candy and Oreo Cookies. At every grocery store I have ever been to and I've lived in Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Colorado, and Michigan. Maybe it is just limited regionally?

Again, very useful list! Thanks for putting it together!

Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussionquestions about change of address for cond perm resident
You only need report the change of address to USCIS, not the other locations. You need to mark the box with your/your wife's current status, not what is going to happen. So if she is a conditional permanent resident now/when you file the change of address form, indicate that (use the other box if in doubt and I just tried, conditional permanent resident will fit in the box). For the non-US citizen, it is an online form.

Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussionquestions about change of address for cond perm resident
The sponsor and the non-US citizen (especially one with an application pending, and in other circumstances as well) both and separately need to report the change of address. You need to report the address where you physically live. What happens if they want to do an interview at your home and the address you gave is not the address at which you live? Not good would come of that. Here is the link to the USCIS site where it explains what a non-US citizen needs to do to submit change of address online. Sponsors have to mail in their change of address.

You guys understand that some percent of applicants are sent for interviews just because, right? With no reason whatsoever.
Might be it. Might be something else. So there's really no point to speculate.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionNo NOA1 arrived... SOLVED!

I know this is an old post but I'm worried that I have the same problem. Check cashed but still no noa1 or biometrics. How can I call to inquire about my case if I don't know my receipt number?

You use the case number off of the biometrics appointment letter to get case updates from USCIS.

Good luck to all of you guys still missing NOA1's! Hope they come soon :)

Our NOA1 was dated 3 days after we sent the packet, however it easily took a week and a half for it to show up in our mailbox. It was another two weeks or so for the biometrics appointment letter to arrive. If I were in your shoes, I would wait until the end of this week, and then start making phone calls on Monday the 8th, but that's just me :) I hope it shows up for you today! Both of them! :)

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionI-751 Interview date in april, Attorrney want to change interview Date

I have applied on December 2011 and a month later I went to biometrics. It took almost 13 months to get the into the interview. I called them why is this taking so long and they said. They only take one or max. 2 people a month for the interview. So, you may guess how many people on the line..

Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussionwaiting for green card after ROC accepted!
:time: it is helpful for everyone to know how long it took for your process at each stage :)

If your removal of conditions has been approved, you will get an approval letter (which I'm assuming you have already received?) and shortly thereafter your new 10-year green card. If you haven't received your new card within 30 days from approval, you should call USCIS and let them know.

No new forms need to be filled out once you are approved until and if you wish to file for Naturalization OR your 10-year green card is going to expire.

Let me just put it this way ... if we were at the 11 month mark after filing ROC and I hadn't heard anything, I would be worried and calling, making info pass appointment, whatever it took to get it done.

Best of luck!

United KingdomHow do I know when the US Embassy received my pack
Hi folks,

So I finally got everything filled in (pack 3) and completed, checked, checked and checked it again and sent it to the embassy. In everyone's experience, what is the next you'll hear? Is there a method to check that it was received and logged at the embassy or is it just a waiting game?

Thanks!

Joel

United KingdomQuestion about Goulds
The photo booth at my local tesco (Loudwater, Bucks) does America Visa photos now (only noticed when I went to get mine for my police check). Its a 'Photo Me' booth.
It gave me the option to select between British, Indian, Pakistani and American spec passport photos (as well as the various fun-photos). It cost me £5 for the British style and I noticed the American ones were £7.
So I'd recommend looking around for a Photo Me brand booth somewhere before your interview date if you can.

United KingdomPOLICE CERTIFICATE
It takes about two weeks to get a UK police certificate and according to the US embassy website:
Please note that the Immigrant Visa Unit considers the police certificate valid for 12 months from the date of issuance, not six months as stated on the certificate.
I'd recommend applying about a month or so before you actually need it, to give it the maximum possible lifespan...

They are super efficient with these, I heard back before 10am the next day.

Glad to hear they are efficient at making the date changes. I got my interview date last night for Dec 21st, but have emailed them to request it in January (I'm away for Christmas this year!), so hopefully will hear back tomorrow when the office opens again after thanksgiving!

United KingdomFlights: One way or return?
Hi,

Does anyone have any advice on booking the flight to america after the visa has been received? I only need a one way, but expedia is showing a return as actually being cheaper. Does anyone know why this is? Also, does anyone know of perhaps a better place to buy one-way flights?

Thanks,

J

United KingdomConnecting flights??

Unfortunately we booked the tickets separate to help with the cost. And I'm not sure what terminals he will be arriving or departing from. I guess at this point we can just hope for the best and pray he gets through immigration quickly and makes his connecting flight.

I've done this before and it actually wasn't as tricky as it may look at first sight. Check into both flghts online (if possible) and print boarding passes if possible, this will minimise what he has to do at the airport. Then, when he checks in his luggage for his first flight, show the attendant all his flight details and they may be able to check the luggage all the way through to his final destination. If they are able to do this he'll still need to collect it at JFK (to go through customs & immigation), but he'll then be able to 'drop it' at the baggage drop, rather than waiting in line and having to check it into his second flight.

I've done that before when I booked two flight (first on Qantas, second on American Airlines) which were not linked in the computersystems, it save me a lot of time at LAX. I can't guarantee it work like that for you, but it is worth asking questions at the airport from his first point of departure as it may save valuable time at JFK.

United KingdomGetting things ready for AOS, AED & AP
So my visa (K-1) is in hand, one way flight is booked (london to vegas!), getting ready to leave in about 6 or 7 weeks time and marriage is scheduled for 3 days later.

We are keen to file for Adjustment of Status, Advanced Employment Authorisation and Advanced Parole as soon as possible after we are married. I know some information can't be completed until I'm there, but does anyone have any advice on things I can start to put together now (whilst I'm still in the UK) so that we're ready to file it ASAP after the marriage?

Much appreciated

United KingdomTo College or University?
In answer to your posting title, "College or University": University.

If you've finished High School in America, you'll get straight into be able to continue education at a University level in the UK, same as someone who has just finished School (or sixth college or equivilant) in the UK.

Unless you 'don't make the grade' for your preferred university in the UK, two years in a sixth form college or a foundation year somewhere (in my opinion) would be a waste of time and money. Further education is expensive enough, if you can get straight into it, do it.

United KingdomThe ol' 'Should I tell work about it' debate...
I did the same. Told my work last week (after getting my visa approved), fortunately I'm out of any probation period and therefore was able to give them more than the minimum 4 weeks safe in the knowledge they can't actually turn it on me and give me 4 weeks notice without going to lengthy procedures.
In short, they know even though I'm not leaving until the end of February, and its a bit weight of my shoulders being able to talk freely about it.

United KingdomThe Move....

Is your question about taking a lot of luggage on the plane and thinking you will be charged US duty? You won't pay customs duty on your household goods---your personal clothing and belongings. You use the same customs form everybody on the plane fills out before arrival. Houston CBP told us to write "Household Goods" on the form.

The airlines will charge for extra luggage so check the prices on their website.

Yes, thats pretty much my question. So I'll be ok to put over the value of all my personal belongings on the CBP Declaration Form 6059B without fear of a hefty import duty bill?

United KingdomThe Move....
Is there way, as an immigrant, to take more than the usual threshold of property (clothing, CDs, books etc.) to America when entering on a K-1 visa, without being subjected to any import duty?

I don't have enough to warrenty using a shipping company, however I'll be taking more than the usual holiday amount of luggage!

any ideas or advice?

United KingdomWhen should I book my flights for?
Its very easy to make an error, even when you think everything should go smoothly. I'd recommend waiting until you've at least been approved.

The error I made was to not have an original I-134 (aff of support). I had a scanned copy that I had email from America to me. When submitting my paperwork I was told it should have been the original but the decision would come down to the agent that interviewed me. Fortunately during the interview, she mentioned it but said it was ok (probably because everything else was water-tight).

My advice, would be don't count your chickens...

Thanks for the information on evidence for domicile in the US! It was very useful! I guess even though the interview is for the K1, and Montreal requests such evidence, it'd be safer to bring it in case they ask for it. Thank you for your help!

CanadaMontreal Package 3 Site !

Thanks for posting this!

I wonder about what we would send in for evidence of domicile in the United States if we're living at a place that is owned by one of the petitioner's relatives upon arriving in the US? Would evidence include bills and things like that which are addressed to the petitioner?

CanadaAbnormal Chest X-ray

I just read here: http://www.uscis.gov...000082ca60aRCRD

that one can be medically cleared for immigration purposes. I also read that you only need a chest x-ray if you have a skin reaction of 5mm or more. When I last tested a few years ago, it was 2mm.

Do we still need to undergo treatment after moving to the US if we have inactive TB? Should I get an x-ray through my physician soon, and/or take the medication, or wait for the medical exam? I think I should be fine, but I would hate to have the process delayed by months if I find out at the medical exam that there's a problem with my lungs and I can't be cleared until I complete medical treatment.
