Anyone have an 800 number for NVC? Thanks!

The only number for NVC that I see is 603-334-0700. I don't think there is a toll free number for NVC...... I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong! :-)

You are 100% correct. Could we imagine if NVC had a toll-free number?? That would be a hefty phone bill for them.

Cool. I had no idea some countries did that. Learn something new every day!

I know right? Myself, I learned some interesting things dealing with the Peruvian government, like my wife's birth certificate was actually hand written on an official book kept in the archives. Until about 20 years ago, every time someone requested a birth certificate, the gov. clerk would grab the book and put it on the copy machine. They've gone digital since then.

Hi all,

We just received the following message from nvc:

____F - FINANCIAL EVIDENCE:______________________________________
We received your Immigrant Visa Application; however, we have not received an Affidavit of Support form. You must submit an Affidavit of Support form before we can complete your case.

I'm pretty sure we have submitted this, would I need to re-submit?

I am panicking here so any help would be very useful.

Thanks.

Dimple

This sounds like a false checklist. Probably because they haven't input your AOS packet in their system yet. Call NVC to confirm.

My question is the "My current individual annual income is:" - Part 6 - question 5 - form I864

I thought so. In that case, you need report what you are earning right now, calculated for the entire year. This calculated amount will not necessarily match your income in your tax forms or your W-2's. That is why you also need to include paystubs for the past 6 months and/or a letter from your employer stating how much you make in a year.

Because I join tax with my husband, so the total income is not my individual income :(. It is the earned income-secondary in tax transcript? or what line in tax return? Thank you for your helps.

I petition my mom. I'm the US Citizen.

Just to be certain, are you referring to the part where you have to write the "total income" for your 3 years of tax returns? Or the section where it asks for your individual annual income (current)?

How is it that your marriage certificate has an expiry date? Once you're married you're married, right?

In case of a divorce or any other changes, the government authorities of several countries make legal annotations right on the original marriage certificate (side or back of the document). So you may have a copy of your certificate that you obtained a year ago but if you got divorced just 4 months ago, then your copy is now outdated. An expiration date ensures that people are using the most recent document that their government has on record.

Let me wish everyone here at NVC best wishes. I specially want to wish several of you whose cases are running parallely here at NVC with our case - Changnoi, waiting___, ja&ka, senegal0123, amveam, Fabian&Rossy, dadajnm, ya12yo23, jem13 and a few others. Hope you get your Case Complete by the middle of April and interview in May.

Right back at ya bkghosh and everyone else! April is our month!

Received an email today from NVC with our case number and instructions on filling out DS-261.  Is it normal for the petitioner (myself) to be the agent who receives all the correspondence?  That is what I designated, I can't pay yet though :(

You are fine. If no lawyer, then petitioner can normally be the agent. Your AOS invoice should appear by tomorrow or the day after.

Checking in. Will this be my last NVC thread??

Posting my question here, as I assume March thread will be closed soon. :)

NVC said we would have to wait for DS260 to be completed and accepted before we can ask for the police report.  Has anyone heard this before?  My husband just called the registry here and they said they can give it (the police record) to him without an official request.  But, information can be really unreliable in this country.  (US embassy told me to call back tomorrow as the immigrant visa people evidently only work from 9am-11am.  I want that job)

Any thoughts?

Did you check the Costa Rica reciprocity table in DOS's website? I am not going to paste it here but they are providing some good info regarding your question:

http://travel.state....country/CS.html

I know for my Peruvian documents, this table was dead on accurate. It was so specific that the only thing it didn't say was what the government clerk looked like.

Thanks Guys!!!  i'll keep doing my part and just hope for the best.   I definitely think this wouldn't happen in person because I don't know how many times I've been over and for months at a time, and any misunderstanding get resolved quickly.  I think we're both frustrated with not getting the interview date that's probably causing more fights.  Thank you soooooo much.  I just needed to vent and make sure our situation wasn't unique.  Your words of encouragement really helped me :)  I'll be praying for both of you also  :goofy:

Thank you for the prayers my friend! I'll do the same for you.

thanks for the help! do i need different co sponsor for each packet? or just the same?

You can certainly be the sole sponsor for both packets. You only need a co-sponsor if your income is not enough to support your total household including your wife and daughter. Good luck!

You are my hero. Thank you for making this clearer. I thought so but was confusing myself. he had shown me his I-864 and was double counting and had me all messed up.  Now I am all versed on this. Phew.

Thank you Thank you. God bless you. (L)  (I think a good nights sleep and coffee also help my clarity. ) :goofy:

Oh you're too kind. So happy I was able to help you clear things up!

Just wanted to say thanks for the words of encouragement. I have been fighting with my spouse a lot lately and all this stress is not helping. I feel like our marriage is falling apart with this distance and it really hasn't even started.

Sorry to hear this Cangirl. Long distance relationships are difficult, but adding this immigration process truly makes it so much worse. Keep at it! Once you're together again your relationship will be much stronger because of this ordeal. Best wishes!

See you all in the June thread! :goofy:

Lately the hubby and me have been having some real bad fights (over the phone)  I feel as though he is getting sick of me. I wish I get the interview soon because it would suck to have come this far and for nothing :(

Oh no, don't say that. My wife and I also have some really bad days. In a long distance relationship it's so easy to just hang up the phone after a fight. I also believe that most of our fights would wind down if we were together face to face to see our body language or to just hug each other and dissipate the situation. However, since we are apart, communication and discussion are crucial. We give some time to cool off and then talk about the fight. I have learned so much about my wife this way. We often realize our fights are due to misunderstandings like she took my tone of voice the wrong way, or I thought she meant something different than what she intended, etc. I hope this helps a little. Cheer up! :goofy:

Thank you so much. I think I am too tired to think. Cuz the more I read this the more my mind gets confused on section 5 and adding the people up if they are doing one for each wife and daughter. So what  will be ?

Sorry all the questions.

Oh, that is a tricky one. When I started my AOS packets for my wife and stepdaughter I researched the same issue in VJ, other websites, and asked at least 3 different NVC reps. I never got a solid definite answer, so I used my common sense (I know, dangerous thing to do in this process):

In my wife's AOS, I put her as the principal immigrant and then added 1 for other dependents (my stepdaughter). In my stepdaughter's AOS, I put my stepdaughter is the principal immigrant and then added 1 for my spouse. This way each application showed a total of 3 household members, which is the accurate number of family members that would be supported by my income. In my case, just myself, wife and stepdaughter.

Is your friend the sole sponsor or is he using a co-sponsor? Only asking because if he is the only sponsor and using just his earned income, then he could still fill out the I864EZ for each one (wife and daughter each have their own visa petition). Shorter, easier form = less headaches :)

I am helping a friend with this same thing. His wife and daughter he is sponsoring. I just told him two packages but he just asked about the information on form do you have to change then the daughters to principal immigrant or just make a copy of the I-864 and just make it same same?

My head hurts. Why is this so hard. My goodness.

Hi dwheels!

If the wife and daughter have two separate cases, then the AOS packet should be a stand alone packet for each one of them. Wife and daughter will both be the principal immigrant in their respective I-864. Unless your friend is a LPR and only filed for his wife (daughter as derivative beneficiary).

Good luck to your friend, he is in good hands!

Is it possible that I'm interpreting things wrong? This is what the Colombia Country Reciprocity page says (he doesn't have either):

ETA: police records are no problem for us, but this is:

Military Records

Unavailable. Colombian citizens over 18 years of age should have their Military Carnets (Libreta Militar), First Class for those who have served with the armed forces and Second Class for those who have obtained an exception.

Hello Abby&Mario,

It COULD be open to interpretation. I say this because it is known that NVC workers do not read their own guidelines.

The general DOS page listing the civil docs needed by NVC, which is the page before the country specific table, says the following:

If you served in the military forces of any country, you must obtain a copy of your military record.

Note: Military records from certain countries are unavailable. More specific information is available from the NVC, the nearest U.S. immigrant visa processing post, or online at Reciprocity by Country.

So the way I interpret this is that the above statement says to obtain military records only if you served. Once you go to the country specific list for Colombia, it tells you that an actual record is not available, so you should use your Libreta Militar as proof of your service. No service, no need to provide.

If you want to be 100% sure, you might have to call NVC, call the US embassy in Colombia (if possible) and also check with other VJ members in the Colombia portal to see what they did.

Good luck!

Hello everyone !! I'm pretty sure its been answered here before but can you please explain things to me like I'm 5 years old :)

1. My petition was approved by uscis for my wife and two kids(3 people)last week . Will NVC give me 3 case numbers or just 1 for the whole family ?

2. Am I going to pay 3x$88 for my AOS fee or just one for the three of them? I know IV fee will be paid for each person..

Thanks again!

1. Yes. If you submitted a I-130 for each one of your relatives, then NVC will provide a case number and IIN to each.

2. You will pay $88 only once but you still need to prepare a separate AOS packets for each relative. If CEAC shows an AOS fee for each person, then you will need to contact NVC and ask them to "link" the cases together. You are correct about the IV fees.

Good luck!

Hello all,

Great news -- the NVC is no longer requseting the Greek PCC that I got a checklist for. Apparently the supervisor was able to pull my file and list it as "unavailable."

Now here's where things get mysterious: very recently the Greece Country Reciprocity page showed that the PCC was available for non-Greek applicants applying from abroad. But when I looked again today, it doesn't say anything about non-Greek applicants. I even have the old version saved in an email, but I have no idea when it changed. I knew from the beginning that this process was going to be like bureaucratic Kafka hell, but this is just too weird. Disappearing requirements...

They did insist that I send court records for my husband, but that item will be very easy to take care of as he's never been in court. I'm planning on sending a letter today.

Can't wait to hear everyone's good news this week!

Awesome for you! So glad they resolved this issue. Who knows, maybe you brought light to this issue with Greek docs and got them to update the info online. Here is hoping for a prompt CC for you!

Finally!  A win of the second leg of the Visa Triple Crown!  Case complete May 27!

Thanks to all who helped (expecially you Saylin) and good luck to all who are still waiting... my prayers are with you.

... And they're off! Congratulations!!!  :joy:  :joy:

Internet is very slow where I am in Thailand so unable to read posts. No word from the
Bangkok Embassy about change in interview date. The tears have finally stopped falling
as I am now with my family after over a year apart. I was walking down the street
and holding my wife's hand very tight and I realized something was very different.
In the past I knew that soon enough I would have to let go and return home and all
the pain that would be involved. Just then it dawned on my heart that
I never have to let go of her hand again.

So glad to hear from you my friend, and great that you are with your family! I so wanna be like that with my wife in a couple of months.

Hi gang! Thought I would re-post this (can't remember who posted the link first) but it's awesome and will take away a lot of the worry about the DS 260. Now we can be prepared!

http://travel.state....60 Exemplar.pdf

I like the fact it actually explains who will fill out that education/work section that some of us didn't have.

OMG, you're right Lakehouse! So it's not just one factor (e.g. country, age) but a combination of different scenarios in the applicant's profile. Mystery solved!

Thanks for reposting nightingalejules! I missed it the first time.

I had a checklist for 2 parts. On my joint, sponsor's I-864, it was:

1. In Part 6. Sponsor's Income and Employment, please correct the following...
[x] Items 13.a.1. The income you enter must match the total (gross) income reported on your most recent Federal income tax return. If you filed Form 1040EZ, use the adjusted gross income instead.

I know it was covered like a million times here, but since it's all being done by a lawyer in the US, I dont have any control over what they fill out. Besides, they probably think I'm an idiot anyway!

2. You must submit the following financial evidence:
[x] ___2013____________________________ IRS tax schedules.
[x] _______2013________________________ Federal income tax returns, IRS printout, or Letter 1722 issued by the IRS.

I'm positive my husband handed them copies of all his 2013 tax stuff, so I really dont know what's happening :( My husband will be calling the lawyer in the morning and possibly be going over to see them. I just hate the fact that because of this we're gonna be delayed another month! I hope they don't take 30 days to review corrected documents as well...

#######! That really sucks. :ranting: :ranting:  What is the deal with all these so called lawyers? I hope your husband gets the case moving again asap.

I call them earlier already and I talk to Evette she told me to just send proof of employment. I'm calling them again now, just to make sure. Thank you so much for your reply.

Hello mai_02, Calling another NVC rep is a good way to clear your doubt. Here is another way to make sure: Carefully read your checklist line by line again. Is it saying that  something in the actual I-864 form is incorrect and needs to be revised (e.g. names, dollar figures, blanks)? Or is it just asking for a supporting document (employment letter, transcript, etc)?  If the latter, then just submit the document they ask for, along with the barcoded sheet.

Good luck!

Thank your very much for the replies. I guess I should start gathering my docs.. Damn didn't know had to send it again..

Sorry for that. Unfortunately, you were not supposed to include them in your I-130 packet to USCIS.

The bright side is that docs for your AOS packet should be easy to obtain again.

Good luck!

USCIS Service CentersI-130 transferred to local office (split and merged topic)

Hello, This is a normal step in recent months. Until recently, a great number of I-130's were being transferred from the service center in Kansas (NBC) that was originally delegated to handle this type of cases to other service centers in Texas, California and Nebraska (TSC, CSC, NSC). They are doing this to alleviate the delays due to overflow of cases. Your spouse in the US should receive a letter in the mail that will indicate which one of the three service centers will handle your case from now on.

As far as how much longer it will take, it is hard to say. Majority of normal cases transferred to CSC have been seeing approvals in as little as two weeks. Other cases transferred to TSC or NSC are experiencing longer wait times. You should look up other forums of people that filed in the same month as you to get a better idea.

Good luck!

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaConsent Letter (PERU)

Hello sos321,

I'm sorry this is happening to your family. However, that is not a US issue, it is an issue with the Peruvian government. NVC and the embassy found the old letter to be sufficient but the Peruvian immigration probably requires a more recent notarized letter. I remember when I was a minor, my parents had to get a new notarized consent form for every time I flew out of Peru (traveling with only one parent).

Good Luck!

Was it a stupid post ?? It's like you telling me I'm stupid??? All I was asking was is there a specific date to be exact?? You don't have to reply if you think it's stupid. God bless you.

I'm with you michey, your question was 100% valid. I saw the post you are referring to but I just ignored it. I can never understand why some people get so defensive and brave in their replies. Also, a lot of folks forget that this website brings in people from ALL corners of the US and the World. If I'm not mistaken, the NVC is located in Portsmouth, NH. Snowfall is over now and because it is Friday, the city will have the weekend to recover and clear all roads. So they will open on Monday, most likely.

Hello Everyone,

Really Frustrated with NVC, USCIS approved case on 27th Jan,  NVC received case on 14th Feb, So far no response from NVC. I mean no case#!!! Is there any one in the same boat???

Unfortunately yes, there is a whole lot of people waiting for a while (myself included). NVC representatives are currently advising to wait 30 business days for a case number after they receive your file. Join us in the March-NVC Filers forum so you will get a better idea of everyone's timelines:

National Visa Center (Dept of State)James's Shortcuts / Lawyer

James's shortcut might be a bit outdated. Dwheels76 gave you the correct link to the most updated info, tips and shortcuts. You can also join us at the current NVC thread for the month of April:

http://www.visajourn...ers-april-2014/

Saylin, the same person the created the NVC process Wiki, and other members hang around that forum to answer most of our NVC questions.

From what I see from others here in VJ, it is extremely beneficial to read Saylin's wiki post and the NVC forum even if you already have a lawyer. You will be able to get a better idea of the process and assist your lawyer. In some cases, people were able to challenge their lawyers if they notice the lawyer was doing something wrong.

Congrats on your NOA2 and good luck!

US Citizenship General DiscussionInterview and Oath - how soon?

Hello,

Congrats!! Oath ceremonies are routinely scheduled by the court in the area, so you should be able to call the office where the interview will be to find out ahead of time. If they haven't formally told you by now, then they will let you know when you complete and pass the interview. Family is definitely allowed at the ceremony but not to the interview. Also, as important as the ceremony is, they are flexible as to when you can take your oath. This way you can have as much time as you need to plan for your family to visit. Just bear in mind that you will not be a US Citizen until you take the oath.

When I went thru the process, I did my interview one day and was lucky enough that they had a ceremony the following day. Good luck!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJust want to vent a little... I am so sad... this hurts so much.

Yes, you are passing thru the worst part of the visa process but you are almost there! My wife and I are also frustrated with this process since it will be more than 2 years for us. I was just able to file my I-130 in June 2013 (more than a year after we got married) only because my wife's home country messed up my name on the marriage certificate and it was ridiculous the things we had to do to get it corrected. Nevertheless, the process is now moving and it will all be worth it when we are together for good. Before you know it, your case will also start moving faster thru the NVC stage and your husband will be with you once again! So, keep thinking about that day and cheer up! You guys will do great!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsCase Status Update!

Oops I forgot to mention; if you really want to know right away where your file was transferred, then you can call USCIS number on your NOA1 (sorry, I don't have it handy). Although, I hear there are long waits and often they are not eager to provide any additional info. You should be receiving the hard copy notice in the mail in about 5 business days anyway.

A lot of people that got transferred recently have been receiving an additional supplement letter along with the transfer notice. This supplement does say that you should receive some kind of action within 60 days of your transfer (approval, RFE, etc.) and that you may start calling them if you do not see any movement by then.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsCase Status Update!

The transfer messages you are receiving are a little misleading. Cases are no longer being transferred to a "local office" but to one of the main service centers in Texas, California and Nebraska. The general consensus here in VJ is that USCIS is using an old standard message to let people know that files are moving out of NBC to balance their workload and attempt to catch up with their backlogs.

Wait for the hard copy notice of transfer in the mail. That notice will tell you which of the service centers (TX, CA, NE) received your case. Also, don't be surprised to receive two, three or even four similar texts/emails. That occurs every time your file is scanned while being physically transferred to the new location.

Good luck everybody!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNVC Filers - February 2014

I just made my very first call to NVC to check if they received our case and I spoke to the most kind gentleman. What a pleasant person! Not just for US bureaucracy standard but any customer service in general.

Anyway, turns out our case was already checked in the building on Feb.6th, barely a week after I received notice from TSC.

I did find it odd though that this rep told me to count specifically "4 weeks and 3 days" from Feb. 6th to get a case# huh.png . He apologized that he didn't have better news for me tonight but all this weather is causing delays.

As nice as he was, I will still venture to make my next call a little sooner than 4 weeks and 3 days. Just in case.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNVC Filers - February 2014

Yeah at least one of them is only valid for 90 days.. my wife went ahead and got hers this month and sent it with a friend. It's a slight gamble but I'm pretty sure they will still be valid when the NVC finally requests them. Either way, it'll only take a couple of days to get them again if need be.

Good luck, keep me posted. I'm sure our interviews and medical exam dates will be close to each other.

You got it buddy! You do the same.

Have you gotten your civil documents yet? My wife got them pretty quickly in Lima. I'm just waiting for the NVC to say GO!

Your are right. If there is one thing I'm happy about is that the Peruvian government makes it very simple to get the civil documents we need. Since I heard some of the docs have a validity of only 90 days (perhaps you can attest), we are going to wait until I confirm our file is "in the building" before we start requesting them. Wifey already has the list from DOS's website, she knows exactly where to go for each doc, and she has my DHL account info to send them asap.

Good Luck to you!

Can I just say how much I absolutely LOVE Todd at the NVC? I was so happy to hear his voice on the line. He recognized my name and was all chatty, and took his time in looking up my case information.

Oh, so YOU were the reason why I waited on hold for 30 minutes this morning! LOL! Just kidding!!

He also said they were catching up at the NVC and processing faster due to being on mandatory overtime working sat and sun for the past 2 weeks.

I can just imagine Todd's supervisor:  "Hey Todd, what's happening? I'm gonna need you to go ahead and come to work on Saturday and Sunday. So if you could be here around 9 that would be great, mmmk?"

          :ot2:
