Ohh, by the way, Sofialsabella and Capt Ewok have apparently updated the timeline options!

Quote from Sofialsabella:

Hi VJers.

I was working with Capt Ewok to fix the timeline fields on Visa Journey.  Capt Ewok has finished making the changes and so, please go into your timelines and check it out.

Edit your timelines with the new information in the new fields.  Thanks everyone and thanks Capt Ewok

Cool! Timeline date fields look so much cleaner now. I'm gonna check later tonight to see if my dates are still correct. Thanks for the heads up!

im so happy saylin i got my interview for may 22 expedite......?????????

Congratulations!! :joy: Glad your expedite was accepted!

Thanks for the info, but what about the address? My USC wife is living here in Canada right now so do we enter her Canadian address? We have documentation such as a job offer, car insurance quote, and notarized letter from her parents we'll be living with them to show re-establishment of US domicile to go along with her I-864.

Sorry I missed your other question. I think current address for your spouse should be exactly that. There is another section on the DS-260 where it will ask you for your permanent address, where you intend to live after arrival in the US. You can put your in-laws' address in that section.

Good luck!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNVC Filers - May 2014

Good morning VJ family!!!!!!!!

I know most of us (if not all of us) hate the weekends right now! It feels that teh weekend is a waste of time. I've never been so happy so Monday come as fast as possible.

I so hate the weekends that I volunteered to work Saturdays until my wife gets here. I just want to stay busy and get myself to think about other things than calling NVC or watching other people's progress to compare with my timeline.

My wife is getting tired of all this, I don't blame her. She does not understand the process. Her entourage (family and friends) are killing her with stupid questions and comments. Couple of weeks ago, one of her cousins joined her husband in France with a visa (residency card), everybody became immigration experts and started talking to her about how if I really wanted her we I could've got this done bla bla bla, be careful, he is just playing you bla bla bla, may be he is married in the USA and just wants you here when he visits bla bla bla, all kind of nasty stuff.

Anyway, I try my best to talk to her and she understands what's going on and she trusts me, but from time to time she cracks down, I don't blame her at all. I even told that if I was on her shoes, I would thing the same thing.

Anyway, we got married on July 1st 2013 and our priority date is July 17 2013, 2 days after I got back to the USA.

I know lots of us are going through similar situations. Personally, I believe one thing: this process will make our relationship stronger, even if sometimes it gets hard due to unforseen circumstances.

Good luck to all.

You hit it right on the nail Etrangais! My wife's family and friends are very supportive but she stills encounters some people with "poison in their words". She has to hear these people questioning her motives for moving, questioning my efforts and my fidelity. She hates it when people ask when I am taking her over to the US. She really gets mad and clarifies she is not a thing to be "taken" somewhere, LOL! I can't wait for this process to be over.

Thanks for the wishes.  I'm really hoping to be near the end of the process so I can join my husband.

Like etrangais and others have stated, weekends are now harder to bear than ever before.  When have I EVER hated weekends!?

I still make time to come read the forums every day, even on the weekends when posts are a bit quiet, because I love connecting with people here...you all can understand, and it somehow makes this much easier to bear... PLUS the excellent advice and support that is here on VJ :luv:

Keeping busy is not difficult for me, as I'm listing my home next weekend, and so the endless list of tasks required give me more than enough to do.  I'm not even sure how I'm getting it all done by myself.  It took me all winter to paint and 'fix' the entire inside and outside of the home, and go through all items, and I mean every belonging I've ever owned! -> decide whether to keep or not, price it and stack it aside v.s. box it up for the future move -> had a moving sale last month -> now cleaned and staged and yard work done, PLUS working and getting all my affairs in order, etc.

It's been challenging to say the least.  Yet the vision of being with my husband keeps me plugging away relentlessly for hours on end to make it happen!

I know they say not to 'sell' until you have the visa in hand after the interview, but in my case it's really time to leave this home, this city, this province... as the only thing here now is the memories of the first man in my life, of 22 years, who passed away in 2010.  None of my family is anywhere near here either.  My new love and I need to truly start our lives somewhere fresh, and that's one of many reasons why we've chosen to go to the US.  If for some unforeseeable reason my Immigration is denied, we will move elsewhere within Canada (he still has his Permanent Resident status from when he Immigrated here, so could come back if need be).

Sure there are moments when I'm terrified of 'giving up' all that I have here, a big comfy home, a great job, friends, familiarity... but I see it as an opportunity for an adventure, a new life, a chance to learn and face new challenges along with my husband, side by side, wherever we end up and on whatever roads life provides us.

And my 2 fur babies are coming along too! :P

ARTEMIS.jpg

Have a wonderful weekend everyone

So glad you are keeping that good attitude! I agree, VJ and specially this thread have made this process so much easier for me as well. I can relate to everyone and I am not alone in this ordeal.

BTW, love the pic with your doggies!

OMG OMG OMG ... I got case complete today!!! =D I was falling asleep while I was on hold, but when I heard it was already complete, all trace of sleepiness went out the window. *crosses fingers for a June interview*

Congratulations!!

This was about the most confusing part for me too! My wife (sponsor) is here in Canada with me, but we already have a US address where we'll be living so do we put her current Canadian address, or soon to be US address? Also, my wife will be moving to the USA with me, but not immigrating as she is a US citizen, she's just moving back home so do I say no to that question?

I am wondering the same thing, except that I am in Mexico and I am the petitioner. :)

I'm wondering the same thing!   :help:

31a. Person(s) named in 14 and 29 who will accompany you to the United States now.

I put my partner's (USC) name at question 14 (Spouse's name).  He lives in Canada with me, and we're moving to the US when I get a Green Card.  So I put his name at question 31a.

Wait..... Maybe I'm not supposed to put his name at 31a because he is a USC even though he doesn't live in the US!!??   :huh2:

Hey folks! It is the same for your situations. If your spouse is the petitioner (US citizen), then they are not "immigrating" to the US with you. They are just physically traveling with you, so "No" for both questions.

Good luck!

The reason for this is that I arrived at NVC so they thought hummmmm she's here might as well take more breaks she's waited this long what's a little longer. :( :protest: :protest: :protest: :protest: :protest: :protest: :protest: :ranting: :protest: :protest: :protest: :protest: :protest: :protest: :protest:

LOL! Well the joke will be on them because you're gonna be so ready when your case starts rolling again. You should be getting your case number pretty soon, right?

I have my one-way ticket to go already purchased and will fly in about 10 days.

I will purchase three one-way tickets for us to travel here before I leave.

The window of travel is narrow and price increases for short notice ticket purchases

verses the unlikely event of having to pay a change fee for any delay in travel

was the determining factor. Plus buying early yields more choices for POE and

guarantees no problems with getting the seats we want.

My son is already a US citizen. We obtained his Consular Report of Birth Abroad

after he was born so he already has U.S. Passport and SS#.

You sir are always on the ball! I wanna be just like you when I grow up!  :)

called this morning and...

CASE COMPLEEEEEEEETE!!!!!!!!

still hope for a June interview in London??  Pretty pretty please?!?!  :joy:  :joy:  :joy:  :joy:  :joy:  :joy:

I broke down, and called the NVC.  45 minutes on hold.  But it was worth it.

CASE COMPLETE!!

She said it was complete on the 6th, but the file didn't show a date.  So she would get a supervisor to correct it.

Congratulations London2Boston and Natalie and Bruce!!   :joy:

Based on when you submitted your last packets, it seems NVC keeps falling behind on their CC timeliness. A month ago they used to be 15 calendar days (w/o checklists). Mine took 19 days by end of April and now it looks like 21+ days. I hope they keep working overtime.

Well, ya know, some border officers are pricks. I got one myself when I first started the process who denied me entry into the US. That was my second denial and last attempt as he told me that if I went to another border and tried with "another story" (???), I could get banned for life. I swear, some of them just like the power they have to control people's lives

At least the Canadian officers are nice :D Or maybe it's just cause I'm Canadian

I can confirm that. When I used to live in upstate NY, my buddies and I would go to Kingston all the time. Never did we encounter a rude Canadian officer. Coming back was another story; we had our cars searched in more than one occasion by US officers, or told to park and go to the "building on the right" (even after showing our military ID's!). Go figure.

Thank you so much for your reply.. :)
Can I ask another question about employment? My husband (beneficiary) is self-employed but since nov. 2008 - jan 2014 he was unemployed. Whichis almost 6yrs. But right now he is back to work since feb. What should i put on the question ARE YOU PREVIOUSLY EMpLoYEd?

I remember when I completed our 260, it asked for previous employments for the past 10 years. If you see the same instructions in your form, then I think you should answer yes and complete up to 10 years back.

Hi guys! Anyone from the philippines here? Or anybody who knows the answer..Need your help pls..
On ds260 there's a question about travel documents on personal info part 2... Document ID question... Is that the passport number on your philippine passport? Thank u guys..

This is what it says on the side of the DS-260:

Help: Travel Documentation

Enter the information on the travel document you will be using when traveling to the U.S. Your travel document should be a valid, unexpired passport or other valid, unexpired documentation that is sufficient to establish your identity and nationality.

So I would say yes, enter the beneficiary's passport number, the issued and expiration date of that document.

Good Luck!

Wait so the lawyer fills out the ds261?

No need. The attorney is already appointed as the agent when he/she completes and signs the very last section of the I-130 (person other than petitioner preparing the form).

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNVC Filers - May 2014

I just received an email about a checklist: reqeusting my wife's birth certificate and marriage certificate and AOS. Is this a "real" checklist or a "wait for an approval" checklist? how do I tell?

If the checklist asks for specific documents then it's probably not a false one. Like others said call first NVC to confirm. Good luck!

AOS accepted!!!  YEEEESSSS  :joy:

Now just waiting for IV to get approved.  I swear if they checklist me for another marriage certificate I'm going to scream.

Going to call on Friday to see if IV has been approved.  AOS checklist went very quickly (finally), hoping for similar treatment with IV checklist.

Congrats lucybelle! Another battle won!

Hi VJers!

I have a question regarding the mailing address required in DS-260.

I am the petitioner and the choice of agent. I want to receive any document mailed by NVC and therefore I opted to be the choice of agent in DS-261. Now if I report beneficiary's (my wife) address as the mailing address DS-260, what sort of documents will be mailed to her? Will NVC be mailing all document to her? Will the embassy mail all documents to her?

I am little confused as to what documents are mailed by the individual centers (i.e. NVC, Embassy) and from which form do they pick up the mailing address?

Thanks much,

SS

Don't worry. If you gave your email address to NVC, then all notifications and letters will come via email regardless of who was chosen as the "agent". Good luck!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNVC Filers - May 2014

Hi all, after reading several posts of the NVC giving people flak for non "Certified" marriage certificates, I'm a little considered about our marriage certificate. We got married in Scotland and on their official certified copy (which we're sending to the NVC) they don't actually say "Certified", but just say "Extract of an Entry in a Register of Marriages" that is "valid only if it has been authenticated by the signature of the district registrar or assistant registrar". It has this signature, as well as the seal of the Edinburgh registrar and "General Registry Office" of Scotland watermark all over the paper. There's nothing raised or stating that it's "Certified". Does anyone foresee us having any problems? I can't really send in that which I don't have or the issuing authority doesn't give you. What does everyone think?

Hello, NVC asks for original or certified copies but not all certified copies will actually show the word "certified". When in doubt about what type of document NVC is expecting, check the Country Reciprocity Page in DOS's website: http://travel.state....ountrydocuments

If your marriage cert. is from Scotland, then you want to choose the UK page to view the requirements for that particular document. Sounds like your form should be ok based on what that page says:

Birth, Adoption, Marriage, and Death Certificates

Scotland: Available. Certificates of births, deaths, marriages and The Adopted Children's Register may be obtained from the Registrar General, New Register House, Edinburgh EH1 3YT, or from the Registrar's Office for the district in which the event occurred. Long-form birth certificates should be obtained as short-form certificates do not contain parents' names.

Good Luck!

Good lord, people! Not even a full day and already on page 7?

Lotsa movements this week between case completes and interviews being scheduled. I also got my June interview, yay me!!

I swear there are zero more ways this visa BS can #### me over.

Just got ANOTHER checklist for my AOS packet- again asking for proof of employment.  Which, as I explained in the last cover letter, I don't turn in because I WORK ABROAD AND WILL QUIT MY JOB.  I'm using assets for support.

I swear to god....

I'm so glad I contacted my senator a few weeks back about the original BS checklist I got.  Here's to hoping a supervisor review goes quickly.  Jesus ###### christ.

So sorry for you lucybelle. I hope you get the needed help from your senator's office.

Thank you, I think you're right!
I went ahead and called NVC as I could not wait any longer. I spoke to nice guy Kevin and he cruelly put me on hold for a while only to come back and tell me.. CASE COMPLETE. What?! I'm in shock right now.

Congrats!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJune 2014 Interviews

We already received our IL. And I have a question.

Required Visa Interview Documents and Document Status Code Definitions.

F     The NVC did not request this form or document

The following table lists the documents requested by the NVC and whether or not you submitted them to theNVC. Please note that even though you may have provided the NVC with a copy of a document, you are still required to bring the original document to the visa interview. Refer to the Document Status Code Definitions on Page 3 to determine the meaning of the document status codes.

                                                   Document Name                                                           Document Status

                                   F - PETITIONER BIRTH CERTIFICATE                                                   F

But our attorney asked my husband to submit to him his original birth certificate. If he did submit it to the NVC, can we request NVC to return it to us or will they give it back to me during my interview? We need it because he cannot get anymore birth certificate because it is from Cuba. And he does ot want to go there anymore, he migrated to the US since he was a child.  Please help me.

Yeah, for a petitioner applying for his/her spouse, a birth certificate is not requested as part of the IV docs. Only US-born citizens may submit their BC with the I-130 to prove their citizenship status, or joint-sponsors at the AOS stage. If your lawyer did submit his BC, you should be able to get it back at the interview along with your own BC and marriage certificate.

Good Luck Rose!

I'd love to ask a question of all you VJ brothers and sisters...

To what extent do you and your partner share the work on your IR-1/CR-1 process?  Does the USC do most of the work or the non-US citizen?  Do you share it equally?

Of course, there is no right or wrong here!  I'm just curious.

My disclaimer:  I'm the USC, and I have done 95% of the work.  The reasons?  I've already done my OWN process for a Permanent Residency Visa for Australia, and I'm more familiar with the paperwork.  I had to get a Police Certificate from the USA, Japan and Hong Kong.  I've already had to "prove" my relationship for the Australian visa, so I knew how to gather and organize all the civil documents and other proofs. My partner does not enjoy email, chat or forums, and I love them.  We chose to use an attorney in New York City, not too far from where I live (about two hours away).  And, of course, it was easier for me to hassle the NVC for info!

How about you?

Sukie in Oz

Hi Sukie,

I'm the USC and I handled the entire process for my wife and stepdaughter. I figured it would be easier for me since I already deal with US Gov. forms and read Federal Regulations on a daily basis. I'm also a bit more patient when it comes to this type of bureau #######. Plus, my wife previously took charge of all the wedding arrangements by her lonesome self, so it was the fair thing for me to do.

Still, none of the above really prepared me for the grueling year that we just experienced. I kept my wife updated on all the steps but even she couldn't believe the agony of mostly waiting!

Hubby got approved after a three hour wait inside the embassy. He said the lady was very severe but asked a few questions only -- how we met, details about me, etc. She looked at our albums and said he was approved. She did not ask for the 2013 tax info from me nor the joint sponsor. Also didn't need a new BC or police report....basically none of my months of preparing papers for the interview were necessary. My husband will pick up his visa on Tuesday inchallah. Hate to wait some more but a relief to finally be approved! Thanks to dwheels and Saylin for your help in this process!

Congratulations!! :joy: :joy: Sorry you couldn't get in but I bet it was such a relief afterwards!

Could you please work at NVC? I swear these Agents make stuff up as they go along!  :D

When I called last night (my final call to NVC, it was glorious) I asked how the interviews were done because my case complete was right at the tail end of July scheduling and I end up with the last business day of the month! He said the schedulers get so many slots and just fill them in whereever they can. He made it sound like a dang lottery! I asked if the priority date comes into play here and he said it doesn't.

Granted, I take everything the phone agents say with a grain of salt LOL He suggested my husband call the Embassy the next day and ask for an earlier date. Will keep everyone posted!

Sounds more like they get a file and then start throwing darts at the calendar! Same happened to me, I was scheduled in April for all the way to the end of June. No real reason given.

So glad to see you got your interview date though! Definitely call the embassy once they get your case to see if you can get a closer date.

Best wishes!

lol, I assumed it was flowers or a pom-pom, but the more I look at it, the less certain I become

It looks like a vial of lucky potion ala Harry Potter.

It looked like a carrot to me, at first. Then I thought what does a carrot have to do with luck??

Whatever it was it worked because my wife and daughter were APPROVED!!!! t2027.gif

Smooth interview, no curveballs.

So hubby's interview went ok but we are now in AP. He had everything the NVC requested but apparently there is some other document having to do with marital status that he needed from some government agency there. This is frustrating to me because I went on NVC website under country specific and the only thing that was listed there was about the police clearance.

So he was able to go get this document this afternoon. But he is only allowed to take it back to the embassy tomorrow between 4 and 4:30. Really? A half hour window? And on a Friday no less!! Ugh!!! I'm pretty disgusted right now.

After 14 months of waiting and jumping thru hoops now this!!!!! I can't wait til this bs is over!

And I was thinking we would be so happy and relieved today. And here we are still stressed out!
What more could they want from us? They had our ORIGINAL marriage cert!!!!!!!!!!

The lady at the embassy told him it may still be possible to get the visa next week but they don't do anything quickly there so I'm not holding my breath!

Sorry for the rant. I'm just pi$$ed off! :(

No need to be sorry Stacey, totally understandable. Good news is that is it, that one last piece of paper tomorrow and all those months of waiting will be over! You will see.

Best wishes!!

Once CEAC status changes to ISSUED, how long does the passport usually take to arrive at the DHL in the same city?

I missed your good news post ekec. Congratulations on your husband's visa approval!! :joy: :joy:

I can hardly wait for my wife's!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNVC Filers - June 2014

Hi can somebody please help me. I am having an argument with my husband since he said that there was a question in the i864 asking for my monthly income. As fas as I know there is no question in the i864 thats asking the beneficiary's income. He filed for HOH on his tax. He has his 2011, 2012, 2013 1040a, employment letter and paystubs ready to be send tomorrow. But I asked him not to send it yet since I think he is making a mistake filling up the forms. What can we do? Can we file i864ez because its a simplier form right? He has a daughter living with her and I am the only beneficiary that he is sponsoring. TIA!

There are no questions on the I-864 specifically about beneficiary's monthly income. If anything, all income is expressed as annual income on the I-864. Few things he should considered and review again:

- He is the sponsor, so he should be entering his annual income as the qualifying income to sponsor you.

- Will you continue to work in the US and receive your income from the same employer in the Philippines after you immigrate? If not, then he cannot use your income.

- Is his annual income alone 125% of the poverty line to support himself, his daughter and you? If yes, then he doesn't need to include income from anyone else.

He can file the I-864ez if he qualifies for the 3 rules: He is the only sponsor/petitioner, he is using only his earned income, and you're the only beneficiary under the visa petition.

Good luck!

May I say your brilliant, I saved this for when it's our turn when ever that might be.  Thank you so much for being so concise and

clear you are amazing and kind and I'm just thankful for wonderful people like you. :D  God bless you and your family. (F) (L) (F)

You are way too kind Soloenta! . I'm just trying to pay forward all the help I received from reading VJ during my wife's visa process. Thank you! God bless you and your family too. I'm also praying for a swift conclusion to your visa journey!

Hello everyone and congtas to all who have their case completed and interview dates!

Just wanna ask something about i864. My husband will submit his AOS packet tomorrow and right now he is filling up forms. He asked me how much is my monthly income here in my job in the Philippines. I texted back the answer and then I realized how come he's asking for it. I haven't seen any question in the i864 form regarding beneficiary's income. I am worried that he is filling up a wrong form. I tried calling and texting him but maybe he is busy. I can't wait for him to reply. Is he filling up the right form or not?

Thanks everyone

Mmm.. Yes, you might want to talk to him. He could be filling out the correct form I-864 but he might be confusing whose income he needs to declare (his as the sponsor, not yours) or, he might be trying to include your current foreign income as part of his total household income. For the latter, he can only use your current foreign income if it will continue from the same source after you immigrate (proof needed).

Good Luck!

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick question on the ds-260--
I am filling it out for my husband, and we are not sure how to respond to the copious amount of information they want on his past jobs.  He says he has had from 5 - 10 jobs in the last ten years. They are mostly represented in his CV, and therefore we have a record of  his position, the name of the company and roughly the dates he worked... however, he says it's difficult to remember the names of supervisors and the phone numbers and addresses of the companies.  I think we look to some degree online for the contact information, but have the sense that such information is less available in Vzla then in the US... at the same time, others must be having similar situations... How have others dealt with this issue?

Thanks in advance!

Like you said, try to get as much info as possible by either calling or searching online for contact info of the companies he worked for. There is a "I don't Know" check box if your husband cannot remember name of a supervisor.

Best of lucks!
