PhilippinesAOS - is it necessary
Interesting, as I am still unclear as to what the AOS is for, but after reading this, it answered some of my questions.

However, I still have one question in mind. I know that when you file for AOS, you also include the EAD and AP. I have some questions regarding AP. My AP is important to me because my Dad is sick and he might have emergencies. When does an AP expire? When my AOS is approved, and I have a GC, does it mean that the AP is not anymore valid? I'm confused with this part, and any help would be gladly appreciated.

Philippineshow will i work as a nurse?

Chinook told me the NCLEX-RN was easier than the NLE.

It's true. Memorization won't do you any good in the NCLEX, just understanding and knowing what to do. It's just the pressure and the sense of not knowing what kind of questions are gonna show that makes it difficult. But the NLE does have way out there questions.

Philippineshow will i work as a nurse?

Hey colleague! :) I'll say it depends on what state you currently live in. Inquire to the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) of your state. Different states have different rules, regulations and processing procedures. I believe hope.andsun and I took the NCLEX-RN while we we're still in PI (Makati) and I assume we're both under BRN-California.I'm not familiar with how you'll be able to take the NCLEX-RN once you're already in the US (coz I haven't undergone that process). But I suggest read the book entitled Prioritization, Delegation and Assignment by author Linda La Charity! That helped me a lot(I wasn't able to enroll in review centers, just self-paced reviewed).Good luck to you and I'm hoping you'll be able to figure everything out! :)

thank you so much!phew!got everything settled and straightened out!*relieved* I've also checked out your blog. congratulations and I'm very happy for you and the hubby. :luv:

You're welcome! You know what, I self studied and reviewed that book as well! Very helpful! Plus there are a lot of sample tests online that you can practice on. Thanks for reading my blog. :)

Thanks for the very quick response! :) Did you send a NSO authenticated birth and marriage certificate copies or just photocopies of the two? I'm so psyched!

Just send in copies. They check it anyway on their system. :) As long as you have your Social Security Number, then you're good :)

Philippineshow will i work as a nurse?

Hi everyone! I just saw this post and I really need your advise and expertise. :help:

I just wanna ask Filipino Nurses in California what documents will I need to prepare (while I'm still here in the Philippines) to be able to work as a registered nurse once I'm in CA.

Back story: I took and passed the NCLEX-RN exam last March 2010 (Makati, Philippines). During that time, I was still single. Now, I'm married to a very wonderful and amazing man last Feb 2011. Our case is now being reviewed in NVC (hopefully we'll be able to complete our case by next week *fingers crossed*). The thing is, the letter that was sent to me by the Board of Nursing in CA was addressed in my maiden name. Are there any necessary documents that I have to present in order to obtain my permanent registered nurse license? Thanks! :star:

The letter I've received goes like this:

March 30, 2010
MY NAME
MY ADDRESS IN THE PHILIPPINES

SUBJECT: Social Security Number (SSN)

Dear MS. maiden name

This notification that you have passed the NCLEX-RN examination and that you have met all other licensing requirements except for submitting a valid US Social Security Number (SSN). Your SSN is needed in order to issue a permanent RN license.

Please submit your SSN on the form below. When you obtain your SSN, you are advised that you must also promptly report it to all appropriate agencies, such as California Franchise Tax Board.

If you do not provide your SSN to the Board of Registered Nursing within three years from the date of this letter, your application will be considered abandoned and your file will be destroyed.

NAME: _________________________
CURRENT ADDRESS (if different from above): ___________________________
US SSN:_____________________

I certify under penalty of perjury under the laws of the State of California that all statements, answers, and representations in this form are true and correct.

SIGNATURE: ______________________ DATE:____________________________

When I fill out this letter/form, I'm gonna use my married name, current address (in CA) and signature (of course, also in married name). Then, can I include in the packet the change of name and address form (hard copy/printed and filled out) together with the proof of US SSN and a photocopy of my marriage certificate? So that they're all in one package? Can that be enough? Thanks in advance!

OH! We went through the same thing. I passed March 2010, and got married and now I'm here in the US. They gave me that form too. What I did was I sent in that letter, along with a copy of my birth certificate, marriage certificate and US SSN. I included the marriage certificate as proof of name change. I also sent in a copy of the biographical page of my passport just so I have an ID with picture that they can see (but I think they don't need it, I'm just trying to be extra sure). After a week and a half of sending it in, I got my license! Wooohooo!!! Just send in everything, and send it with a tracking number so you know that they received it. Their mailing address is in their website. Good luck! It's an easy process, just send in those documents. :)

My fiance was with me for my interview. You'll be allowed to enter and be with your fiance/wife the whole time. Just bring your US passport with you. Don't worry, you'll be fine. Since you're there, they'll also ask you questions. They'll ask about your job, how you met each other, but mostly it'll be "Yes/No" questions. Just make sure all your documents are ready. Most important is the affidavit of support and supporting evidences. Good luck!

Which do you think was harder... NLE or NCLEX? Some of our friends thought NLE was harder.

NLE is harder because it was too broad.

I'm a nursing graduate, and came to the US under the K1 visa process. However, I already passed my Nclex when I was in the Philippines. I am now waiting for my AOS approval, and started applying for jobs in the meantime. Having a hard time because they're all asking for experience, but still keeping positive, and will keep on trying.

Philippinesst lukes discussion
I paid for my own medical. I had my fiance with me, but I knew their policy of not allowing anyone in. We tried and asked if he can go in, but they said no.. It wasn't a problem, since it was their rule. He stayed in the car and went to a coffee shop to wait for me. There is a plan B. Also, there are lot of people inside the building. In the 1st floor, you don't see them, but when you go to the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th, there are no available seats left. Take into account that Canadian, Australian and other countries conduct their medical here. Also, there are communicable diseases that are being treated inside. There's no need for someone to be victimized.

hello guys,

I don't think having hemorrhoids will be a problem. What they are looking for is if you have any communicable disease. They'll probably just tell you to have it checked out.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsKeeping yourself motivated while waiting

First off, apologies if this is in the wrong section - feel free to shift it, I was just not sure where to post it. Also, sorry if it turns out to be a bit of an epic.

We all know on here that whatever your situation and whatever you're applying for with US immigration, it's more of a waiting game than anything else. My personal situation is fairly simple - I am 25, live in the UK, met my partner in the USA online earlier on last year, we met in real life for the first time at the start of this year in my country. After she got back, we decided to go through with this and got engaged. I'm going to Indiana in May for a full month, mainly to see her, and partly so that I can get a feel for what it's like there for a bit longer than a two week holiday with a view to when I eventually move. As soon as I get back to the UK, provided there are no last minute hiccups, we're filing the I-129F.

The point is - now that pretty much all the question-marks hanging over our relationship are gone, and we're both sure this is what we want to do, my productivity at work, and enthusiasm to get involved in stuff back here in England has plummeted. It's pretty weird - I have the job I wanted to do back when I was a child, and I really used to enjoy it, but now I find myself not wanting to even go to work, just to sit and talk to my fiancée and plan stuff for the rest of my life in the USA. Finally, I have a future different to the one I thought I was going to have, and it's hard to stay focused on life here while I'm waiting for Godot - I mean, the USCIS. I feel like my life and work here are kind of pointless.

It also doesn't help that for financial reasons, I am still living with my parents. Rather than waking up next to my love each morning and getting ready for work like a grown man, I'm waking up alone in the small single bed I slept in aged ten, with my mother bursting in at 7am screeching "BATHROOM'S FREE!" It's infuriating. Moving out is not an option - regardless of the fact that every penny of my income is going on flights, filing fees and so on, you try finding somewhere to live of your own in the UK's hot-house housing market on a local radio presenter's pay!

So my question is - if you're in a similar position to me, how do you keep yourself pepped up and motivated to continue your life in your home country, when you're just waiting to start a new life in a new country? It feels like I'm in limbo - I don't want to plan anything for the long-term here because I'm hopefully offski in a year or so, but I do still live here for the time being. I'm really struggling and starting to get a tad depressed. Help!

I feel you, dealradh. I love my country very much, but can't seem to start properly because we're waiting for our papers. I am working, but just because I need money. It's like my life is in a standstill right now. I am so eager to start a new life, and make all our dreams come true, but I am stuck here and 'til nothing comes out of our papers, then it seems that I will be stuck here for a pretty long time. It seems like forever when waiting for papers.

Well, right now, I'm just enjoying my time with my family. God knows how much I love my family. When I leave home for 2 days, I already feel sad and I go home no matter the circumstances. Now, I will be leaving them for years on end.. and that breaks my heart. I have become closer to my father now, which I am happy about, and just enjoying my time. Don't worry.. all our dreams will come true soon. We will grow old with the ones we love.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsFor those waiting on K1

This is so true. I'm about a month away from leaving, maybe a little more and things are shifting alot for me.
For more than four years all I could think about was moving to Cali to be with my fiance.
I went for visits every chance I got and hated coming back to Canada.
Now I'm basically at the finish line and I couldn't be more upset about leaving.
I'm surprised at myself. I knew I would be sad to leave my family but I never thought I would be this upset.
Its hard for my fiance, he doesnt quite understand my overwhelming sadness and I can tell his feelings are a little hurt.
Hes very supportive and reassuring but for him there is no sadness in the move, there's only excitement and happiness at my impending arrival.

This is a helpful topic, I tell you I sure as hell didn't see this reaction coming!
So make the best of your time while you wait because you love your family and having the chance to have them around you is a privilege you will miss!

My fiance is a little bit hurt with what I'm feeling too. It's a daily battle! It doesn't stop.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsFor those waiting on K1
Thank you SOOO MUCH for this, Brit Abroad. I don't tell my fiance this, but I've been a bit ambivalent about this whole thing. At first, I was excited. Extremely excited! But after the excitement calmed down, I then thought about the people I will leave here. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my hubby, and that is why I am doing this. But.. I have never been separated from my parents for 2 weeks the most, I think. I love them soooo much. Also, my father is sick, and I'm worried.

I have been spending a lot of time with them.. I wished I appreciated everything earlier though, because I feel like time is ticking. I have, since then, been enjoying time with the ones I love.

Thank you for this reminder.. It brought to my mind how so many loved people there are in our lives.
