When I called they confirmed all the paperwork was good and just waiting for London to schedule an interview. mad.gif

In the US embassy here, they just wait for NVC to send the approved petition and then a day or two after receiving the hard copy they let us call to set up interview schedule: that's the new procedure here. Before, it was the NVC which determines the interview sched and they only send the papers to the embassy when there is available interview sched already.... i don't know the process in London but if it was me, I would call NVC daily till they get irratated and give me an interview sched ASAP... well, it might cost to call NVC but.... hayyy, in one way or another, there are just some glitches in every US embassy. sad.gif ...

I do hope and pray that you both (sally and susie) get that interview sched next week. hold on tight and stay strong. rose.gif

The papers are in London waiting for the London Embassy to schedule an appointment, I think we just have to wait, but anyone knows different let us know, Thanks

I gave my desktop to my mom last year and bought myself a new laptop instead... I'm kinda happy I did that, that way I don't have to worry about shipping that part much ^^

For the rest of my stuff, well, I will only ship some personal belongings, some CD's/DVD's/books and stuff that I want to keep but it wont be much.. A some of it is already online at ebay and other auction sites and more will probably follow soon but so far it has only been stuff which I don't use anyways anymore...

I am unsure when I start shipping the stuff that I want to keep tho.. I am kinda cautious about it, what if the visa gets denied? Idk, it's scary hehe. Plus, if the visa gets denied, my SO will come to my country instead (well, we will move south to Belgium instead in that case.. stupid Netherlands made it VERY hard for us people sad.gif but I hope that wont be necessary).

thats why im not arranging anything till I get that sweaty little visa in my passport lol

The shipping company I am going to use has a special box to pack the tower, thats all im taking, going to get a new screen once i get there, this pc is relatively new and very high spec so I want to take it, I will get it converted over once im there if it doesnt work on the usual travel plugs.

Hello
Even though they have special boxes for the tower, it would probably be better to disassemble what is inside the tower as Rachel said (at least I think that's what she meant) if you don't want anything inside damaged.. The tower is kind of like a box with a few parts, several wires and some empty space. It's going to move a lot... :S Of course that's easier to do if you know how to assemble it again or if you know someone who can do it for you.

Oh ok thanks for the advice, Ill look into that.

Awesome - I was wondering if I should have started sorting my possessions out already but I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who's waiting!

I'd love to be on a plane as soon as I have my visa but I have a feeling I'm going to have to be more practical about it, too! But it must be a very frustrating time for the USC - while the beneficiary is so busy with packing, selling, telling people and closing down all accounts/contracts the USC just has to wait and be patient!

Sally - laughing.gif I'm not taking any furniture either, and I don't have many shoes, but I do have a lot of books and DVDs and I'm wondering how much of that I can feasibly ship! I did think about shipping my PC but decided I'd be better off selling it and buying a new one (with a US-compatible power supply, of course). Do you know how to disassemble a computer? I've heard so many horror stories of trying to ship one (parts being shaken loose and destroying the innards) that I'd recommend packing each piece in its own box with lots of bubble-wrap!

Jay wants my there like yesterday, but he understands that I have lots to sort out, and a house to empty. He said also that if i dont get my visa he will just move over here and we will get him a visa for the uk, that made me very happy to hear that.

I see you're waiting on an interview date, too - hope that comes quickly for you!

So how are all of the Vermont filers doing with regards to packing and preparing to leave your country? Have you already started to ship/sell items or are you waiting until you have your Visa in hand? How much are you shipping?

Darren is waiting until he has his visa in hand before he starts the ball rolling to move (selling his car and motorcycle, telling his job, etc.)...he's the practical one. Me, on the other hand, want him on a plane as soon as it's delivered!!!

but the wait will be sooooooooooooo worth it lol

I never looked up the price of Duke Garden, I have a friend who has a year-round pass to there. I'll have to re-check with him if there are any fees to have a civil ceremony there wacko.gif

The other place is not cheap cheap, but it's a first wedding/marriage for both of us, so we decided to go a little into debt for the family ceremony. I'll PM you with the information Gaye. I might be able to help you with some other ideas in this area too smile.gif My family has run a home-based catering business for almost 20 years, so I've seen a handful of places for weddings around here. Not sure I know them all off the top-of-my head, but I'm sure if you told me what you were looking for, I might be able to think of something.

And you are right, it's being with the person you love that is important, not the actual ceremony/reception, etc. We didn't want to pay a lot of money at first thought, then we said, how many more times are we going to do this? So we both decided to just do it this way and be done with it the way we want it, now rather than later.

On a side note, we got his interview date .... Tuesday, May 13th ... only a month away ....... star_smile.gif

But I have to say you all have had quite a bit of fun conversations in my absense. I love the April Fools ideas. All day yesterday I was trying to think of something funny to get my boss. He is a Starbucks addict and I came so close to running into his office with a lie that the Starbucks down the street from our office (he stops in there at least 3-4 times a day) was on fire.

But...I am a horrible liar and I would have busted out laughing before I could such a joke out. So I sat quiet yesterday and on guard for people who might have tried to pull one over on me.

Hope you all have a great day.

Hehe - there's a great April fools on another set of forums I frequent.

The administrator used me as the 'trigger'. When I started posting this morning my avatar had changed to an over-sized picture Kurt Cobain (normal avatar sizes are 64 x 64 px; this was 80 x 80 px).

Of course the size and subject matter was incredibly noticeable so everyone started commenting on it - 'hey why is your avatar of Kurt Cobain and why is it so huge?'

Well, turned out 'Kurt Cobain' was a trigger word. Whenever a forumer said 'Kurt Cobain' they were 'killed' - meaning their avatar also changed and they could no longer post in that forum. Instead, people who had been 'killed' gained access to a secret hidden forum. Pretty cool!

Since people were 'killed' they couldn't post to say why they were killed, so people are continuing to ask about the avatars and thus the infection is spreading. biggrin.gif

When Alex came to visit I sent him home with a bag stuffed full of British foods - mince pies, a Christmas pudding, chocolate digestives, tea, etc. - and a big bottle of Heinz salad cream.

Unfortunately I packed it in his hand luggage without thinking - of course it counts as a liquid. It was confiscated at the airport - big, unopened bottle of salad cream. crying.gif

Oh well. I managed to bring some through with me when I visited the next year. I just made sure to pack it in my hold luggage this time!

I'm going to miss condensed milk and golden syrup - or am I? They're key ingredients in the most delicious recipes (i.e. chocolate caramel shortbread) but I suppose I may have a better diet this way.

I know you can get condensed milk and golden syrup here.. they use alot in St Lucia (lots of British products there) and I have seen in my local grocery stores... We have some good stores here in Maine. I am sure you can find things.
:-)

Now for me I would love to find some good salt fish and breadfruit! LOL

Oh my what it is that lol

Saltfish is just that - Salty Fish!! laughing.gif Most people don't like (here in states anyway) But I grew to love it!
Breadfruit is a big round starchy veggie... I loved that too.
I guess I dont really need either in my diet!! LOL

Thanks for explaining Irie.
