The visa online scheduling option is widely used in kenya and one advantage is that you print out the evidence unlike on phone. When i went for my interview the were cases where some were told on phone about their interview date but their names were missing on the sheet of paper .

Hi all

I'm from the embassy and I thank the Almighty Father for the jounrney so far

I have passed the interview

picking my visa next week.

I got to there at 6:00 am in the morning and found a queue at the Embassy gates.We were let in at 6:30am. Passed through the security checks and into the building . At about 8:30 am i was called on one of the windows and presented my documents. The lady was mean and she just told me off right away that i was wasting her time I should have bundled everything together . My documents were neatly arranged and i thought she was going to ask for them one by one.Only to be suprised

She gathered all the forms Ds-156, Ds 165K, Ds 230 part I and II , Ds -157, Affidavit of support, proof of ongoing relationship, Birth certificate, Tax forms and any other documents of proof! phew, Was done with her and she just told me to sit and wait to be called for the interview.

I was called to counter 10 an hour later, and believe me i found the meanest of them all. She was not pleasant at all and told me to take place my right hand and repeat after her. She asked me several questions . when did i meet my fiance? which state he is ? WHat are our wedding plans so far? What job does he do?when was i engaged? where was the engagement? How many times have we met ? When was the last time he was here? What is my cellphone numbers? How many times does he call me in a day ? No smiles No break . She went forward and looked at the pictures of us together asking questions about them . I had captioned the pics so it was easy to just explain.

She took a blue slip and my heart and told me to pick my passport on the 24 February, I asked if i could pick it earlier but she gave me the passport back

and told me to come for the visa when im ready. I just told her that i was kindly asking for the favour since im an Inflight attendant and i need to for the travel. Thats when she asked how much tiome i would give the embassy , i told them i was on leave for a week and she told me to pick it up next week! I thank God i passed even after the presure from the lady.

Somehow, I posted this using my wife's login - but this is actually me, Londonspod

As promised, I've volunteered to open and run a new thread from the 'Brits in the USA' thread to keep just one list up-to-date.

This thread is a list of all us Brits who are moving or have moved to the USA with our SO's, list alphabetically by state.

If for any reason I have missed off your name now, please accept my apologies as I've tried to go through the list completely to make sure everyone who was on it in the previous thread is still on it.

If your new to this thread and would like your name added, please send post a message on here with your VJ name, your real name if you would like people to know it, the name of whoever your SO is that you are with in the US(and if they are on VJ they're name on here too)and where in the US you are, by city and state. Also, if both you and your SO are VJ'ers, please state which of you is the UK citizen and which of you is the US citizen. If you aren't yet in the US but moving there soon and you would like people to know when, just put the month of when you are moving there too(I will assume that it is this year unless you state otherwise).

Shipping from the UK to the USA?

Hi all,

My fiance and I are trying to find the best shipping method/company to ship over a flat panel tv of his...and a box with a fish tank in it. The rest he is going to bring 2 suitcases on the plane.

What shipping companies do you suggest? We want it to be reasonable in price.

Hi there

I would think very seriously whether it is worth bringing any electronic items over, the reason I say this is that the usa uses a different power supply than the uk, and electronic items are so much cheaper here, when you weigh up the costs of shipping it will probably be cheaper in the end to buy one here. Also I shipped over my computer and even had a new power supply put in but I ended up buying a new one here.

We are stiil in the early stages of the visa process, but she is anxious to try to improve her English. Not only for when she arrives here, but for her interview. There are schools that teach English where she lives, but are very expensive and very far away in the city. (URUMQI)
I thought is I could locate some books, or something, I could send then to her. Any ideas?

Yes, I know the delay seems weird but it is true and our relationship was still cordial with the soon to be ex-wife. Well, now the relationship is not so cordial and she is refusing to write a letter explaining the discrepency of the separation date. Other facts to consider is that my mother is aware of the true situation and is willing to write an letter of explanation. Additionally, the evidence of relationship with my fiancee is what I consider to be very solid. It will be my 10th trip to her when I go with her to the interview in July. We have hundreds of pages of msn chats, emails, and phone bills. I of course have all the receipts, stamps, etc of all my travles to her. And we have many many pictures.

So, now to the question, does anyone have any input into the possibility of this unique situation causing a problem at the interview?

We were lucky to know a great travel agent in Bangkok, Khao San Road. Lek called her after she passed and told her when she'd have the visa. Lucky! We got a seat when everything was full. I've used her service for years and she's great.

Lagos interview today

My head is spinning. I felt so good about all the documentation, I just didn't expect this. Any advice would be so appreciated. I haven't slept a wink all night and I'm sure being exhausted isn't helping matter's but at the moment I just feel so hopeless.

My wife picked up her visa yesterday with little fanfare at the embassy. They had an appointment for 100pm, but went in at 200pm. She received the visa about two hours later. Today she was able to buy the tickets for her and my daughter on North American Airlines.

I (USC FIANCEE): I say to the lady, the reason I am here is support him, and we brought everything because we have already made wedding reservations that is costly and want to make sure we have everything you need to validate our relationship so that he will get the visa and we can continue with our scheduled wedding plans.
CONSULATE: Starts shaking her head and say no, it is her decision after all and she is not convinced even after doing our split interview so she will SEND petition back to USCIS and let them re-investigate the case.
I (USC FIANCEE) : Start raising my voice, and beg, cry and get mad all at the same time at the lady and she just gives us letter section 221(g) WITH NOTHING WRITTEN ON IT...SHE DOES NOT WRITE THE REASON FOR DENIAL ON THE LETTER AT ALL!!! JUST THE LETTER AND TELLS US TO LEAVE

AT THAT MOMENT I HAD AN OUT-OF-BODY- EXPERIENCE...I STILL DIDN'T BELIEVE MY FIANCE WAS DENIED THE VISA. I ALMOST FAINTED. MY FIANCE WAS ABLE TO DRAG ME OUTSIDE...ON OUR WAY HOME IN THE TAXI...I CRIED LIKE SOMEBODY HAD JUST KICKED MY IN THE RIBS WITH METAL BOOTS....I DID NOT SLEEP THAT EVENING NOR DID MY FIANCE.

THE NEXT MORNING WENESDAY JUNE 25, 2008.

I get online to VJ AND START POSTING LIKE CRAZY WHAT HAPPENED TO ME SEEKING HELP, I ALSO DID RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT REASONS FOR DENIALS FOR VISA AND NON OF THE CATEGORIES DESCRIBED ME AND MY FIANCE.

DEVOTED MEMBERS OF VJ STARTED REACHING OUT TO ME WHILE I WAS IN GHANA AND I GOT THE WISDOM THAT THE CONSULATE HAS TO WRITE THE DENIAL REASON ON THE FORM SO I CAN APPEAL OR AT LEAST HAVE IT IN WRITTING...SO THAT I WAS SUPPOSED TO GO BACK TO THE EMBASSY AND SEEK A HIGHER AUTHORITY CONSULATE.

AT 12:00 NOON, ME AND MY FIANCE ARRIVE AT THE EMBASSY....THE SECURITY GUARDS WILL NOT LET US IN BECAUSE WE DO NOT HAVE AN APPOINTMENT. MY FIANCE DECIDES TO BRIBE OR PAY ONE OF THE SECURITY GUARDS TO LET US IN....THE SECURITY GUARD SEEMED TEMPTED BUT HE WAS SURROUNDED BY OTHER SECURITY GUARDS. THEN I STARTED MAKING A SCENE AND SAYING THAT I AM A U.S. CITIZEN AND WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK TO SOMEONE AT THE EMBASSY WHO DEALS WITH U.S. AFFAIRS. THE SECURITY GUARD SAYS FINE, THAT I CAN ONLY GO INSIDE AND MY FIANCE HAS TO STAY OUTSIDE.

I ENTER THE BUILDING, AND AS SOON AS I ENTER THE FIRST CONSULATE I SAW AND SHE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF INTERVIEWING SOMEONE AT THAT TIME...I WENT TO HER WINDOWN AND INTERRUPTED HER INTERVIEW AND SAID PLEASE I AM HERE TO SEE THE SENIOR CONSULATE, PLEASE LET THEM KNOW I AM OUTSIDE, I AM LATE FOR MY APPOINTMENT.

THE CONSULATE NODS, AND CONTINUES HER INTERVIEW, AFTER SHE IS DONE SHE DISAPPEARS AND THEN RE-APPEARS AT HER WINDOW WITH ANOTHER LADY AND POINT AT ME. I COME TO THE WINDOW NOW ALL TEARY EYED...AND THE LADY ASK MY NAME AND PASSPORT, I GIVE IT TO HER SHE TELLS ME TO COME TO A DIFFERENT WINDOW. I GO THERE AND SHE IS ON THE COMPUTER THEN SHE SAYS " SORRY YOU DO NOT HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE SENIOR CONSULATE" WHERE IS YOUR APPOINTMENT LETTER. AT THIS POINT I START REALLY CRYING AND EXPLAIN TO HER WHAT HAPPENED TO ME YESTERDAY AND SHOW HER THE DENIAL LETTER AND SAY AT LEAST CAN I HAVE THE DENIAL IN WRITING SO I MAY CHALLENGE, OR APPEAL IT?

SHE SAYS SHE IS THE VICE PRESIDENT AND THAT SHE WILL ARRANGE A MEETING WITH ME AND THE SENIOR CONSULATE THAT SAME AFTERNOON AT 2:30PM FOR ME TO COME BACK AND HE WILL RE-INTERVIEW ME AND FOR ME TO BRING MY FIANCE TOO....I START JUMPING FOR JOY AND SAY I WILL BE BACK.

I EXIT THE EMBASSY AND MEET MY FIANCE OUTSIDE AND TELL HIM THE GOOD NEWS AND SECOND CHANCE. I DECIDE WE HAVE SOME TIME TO KILLS SO LETS GO SIT AND EAT AND SO WE LEAVE AND GO EAT ..... I RECEIVE A CALL FROM ZEENUSAH AND I EXPLAIN EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENED AND SHE GIVES ME MORE MOTIVATION TO GO BACK TO THE EMBASSY, I DIDNT TELL HER THAT I ALREADY HAD AN INTERVIEW BECAUSE I DIDN'T WANT TO JINX IT.

ME AND MY FIANCE RETURN BACK TO THE EMBASSY AT 2:00PM. WE WAIT TILL 3:00PM. FINALLY THE SENIOR CONSULATE A NICE GOOD LOOKING WHITE MAN COMES CALLS US TO THE WINDOW, WE COME AND HE SAYS TO GO TO THE PRIVATE INTERVIEW ROOM. ME AND MY FIANCE GOES TO THE PRIVATE INTERVIEW ROOM. HE COMES INSIDE BUT THERE IS STILL A GLASS WALL SEPERATING US AND WE SPEAK THROUGH MICROPHONES. HE ASKS ME WHY DID I LIE THAT I HAD AN INTERVIEW WITH HIM TODAY WHEN I DIDN'T.....

I START CRYING AND SAY I AM IN GHANA FOR A SHORT TIME ONLY, IF I DIDN'T SEE HIM BEFORE I LEAVE, I WAS AFRAID I WONT BE ABLE TO GET ANSWERS TO THE REASON WHY MY FIANCE WAS DENIED THE VISA. THE SENIOR CONSULATE DECIDES TO ASK MY FIANCE RANDOM QUESTIONS AND MY FIANCE ANSWERS HIM, THEN HE ASKS ME RANDOM QUESTIONS ABOUT HOW WE MET, AND THE TIMES WE SAW EACH OTHER . THEN THE CONSULATE.....FINISH HIS LINE OF QUESTIONING ASK ME AND MY FIANCE WHEN IS OUR WEDDING DATE AND THEN HE SAY WELL LOOKS LIKE YOU WILL MAKE IT AFTERALL....I AM OVERRIDING THE DENIAL AND YOU ARE NOW APPROVED FOR THE VISA, TAKE YOUR PASSPORT TO WINDOW #2 AND COME BACK ON FRIDAY TO PICK UP YOUR VISA.... Even if you only have a cell it would still work.....sign up with Vonage then send the phone
adaptor to you SO so she can call you and you can call her any time and it's a local call.
For me this is a God sent. My bill was running over $1000.00 per month before Vonage.

Vonage has been great for calling within the US but Kenya is not in their package and even though the UK is supposed to be included I found out the hard way that not all numbers in the UK are included. And the cost of calls not covered in their plan is much higher than even just using a cellphone. So, before signing up for vonage call them and ask them if specific numbers are covered, not just locations but ask about the number(s) you will be calling.

And yes I sympathize with all of you. My bill was around $1500 for a few months. NOw I am 'trying' to use Pingo. When I can connect and the reception is at least good enough to have a conversation the cost is great. All of these obstacles can be tough but, hey she's more than worth it.

Yes, actually now that I think about it, is there a Kenyan Embassy thread? If not, we should start one! AND I am asking everyone who has gone through the Nairobi Embassy to please write a review and update info on the Embassy page. There is hardy anything there! It's like people get so excited after they get their visa, they forgot to drop some crumbs for those poor ones coming after them

My fiancee has her K-1 interview in Nairobi this week, so I guess I'm pretty up-to-date concerning the embassy and panel physicians, to this point in the process, anyway. Some of the other people dealing with the Nairobi embassy have obviously had far worse luck than I, but I've been praying a lot, and so far, I've had nothing but good news. Some of the embassy info (hours, documents, appointments, doctors, contact difficulties, etc.) seems wrong to me, too, but I can't update the embassy info page. If you've got any questions, I'll try to check back and answer them whenever I can.
