Africa: Sub-SaharanTribal marriage/divorce issues
Hi Jody

welcome to Vj. If it was a traditional marriage and traditional divorce then chances were that not legal documents . He should have sworn an affidavit aand taken that with him to the interview. What was written in his denial form? They best thing is for him to just file for divorce in the courts. Wish you all the best and be blessed.

Some humor only for naija peeps:
A Nigerian girl delivered a baby boy for a Chinese man,
The baby boy died after one month,
The naija babe's aunt was mad and said,
I knew it! I knew it! Chinese product no dey last!!!

Take your time!

When sorrows asail you or terrors draw nigh,
God's love will never fail you, He will guide you with His eye
And when when you are fainting and ready to fail,
He will give what is lacking and make you prevail. - Anon

Shefellfromheaven!
Thank you for your input! I will look for those books this weekend as well. If only I could honestly feel that he was truly in love with me from the beginning or was it the greencard? was it the ticket out of poverty? When he was in africa waiting to come over, he called everyday, he told me how much he loved me and how he would be the man of the house, the man of my dreams, the man I deserved but instead he has lied so much. What happened to all those sweet tender words, those love emails filled with expressions of fire and desire? Yes he fell in love but it wasn't with me it was with America. He told me that he is so, so so sorry for what he did and that he wants me to please forgive him. Someone mentioned that his actions will reveal the truth. That is all I have to go on right now becasue those words are pointless without the actions to back them up. He is free to go right now. He has no attachments really, but he says he wants to work it out. I need to read those books and go into seclusion to some degree to sort things out.
Thank you for the great advice!

Mao
I have been keeping up with this thread, and hoping all turn out good. Your post has left me dumpfounded.
In relationship we unconciously keepclose tabs on how well our partners are meeting our emotional needs.I honestly think its time for both of you to analyze your emotional bank accounts( Love Bank).
When you were married, you and your spouse both promised to care for each other, and you expected that care from each other. You were in love, and you were highly motivated to make each other happy. I think its time MAO critically analyze the situation - think through with both your head and heart and choose a path that best suits you.

If its a path towards forgiveness - Both of you MUST build on INTIMACY, go back the basics of love. You will only obtain that feeling when your spouse has deposited enough love units into his or her account in your Love Bank to trigger that reaction. As you care and protect each other, trust will build again. This path is tough and for trust to build CHANGE in behaviour must occur in both of you.

If you decide to walk away, we would understand because no one deserves the betrayal of infidelity.

I would also like to recommend this books -
  • Total Forgiveness by R.T. kendall
  • The 5 love Needs of men and Women by Dr. Gary and Barbara Rosberg

Africa: Sub-SaharanNairobi embassy experience - April 2012 - Help!!!
Congrats
In moments of deep need, God comes in a mysterious way to give us courage... Hongera kwenu!!

Hi All,
It has been a few months since i last posted...this post is mainly to encourage other people that may be going through the same thing that my husband and I had to go through at the Nairobi embassy. If you remember my story my husband had been denied the visa back in april at the nairobi embassy. After talking to lawyers, senator, congressman they all told me the next procedure would be to wait for the case to come back to US. However I emailed and emailed and emailed scanned evidence of our relationship and after almost 2 months from the date of denial, they called my husband and asked him to submit his passport. After a week we got an email on how to collect passport with visa...in short never give up...God is faithful and He will come through for you. You can do it by yourself though I know it is a pretty hard situation to be in emotionally.

Thanks and All the best.
Jabulani.

Whidbey , All will be fine iits all in the transition process

I do appreciate the fact that your daughter sees him as a father figure , For which he is and that what matters_ The Love , the bond you share as a family, the relationship.

One thing , sometimes we do is to convert the dollars, into our local currencies, like CFA , and when we put comparison into place, we feel that back at home we would not have spent that much on i.e. eating out unless we are at a 5 star hotel. He will be fine , just encourage him - The cost of living here is high.

May you find God's favor. Its a struggle and Im hoping he doesn't give up. Hope he counts his blessings and just focuses on the positive. He may work in the construction company now , but God has a purpose for him.

Earn SkyMiles credit and redeem miles for mileage awards on any SkyTeam or SkyTeam Associates airline.

I Understand that. Kenya Airways is an asociate sky team alliance partner( I was a flight attendant with Kenya Airways before i came to the US), your miles should work fine. Both Airfrance & Delta airlines are sky team members. When you fly either of the sky team members your miles count and work fine.
•Aeroflot
•AeroMexico
•Air France
•Alitalia
•China Southern
•Continental
•CSA Czech Airlines
•Delta Air Lines
•KLM Royal Dutch Airlines
•Korean Air

You dont have to fly Airfrance or delta to redeem your miles. I hope this info helps, any of these can work and further more you will continue earning sky miles.

Sorry should have clarified - there are only two that my miles for a free ticket would work on. I can't afford $2,000 for a ticket. I budgeted $250.

Whidbey the are 3 African Airlines that fly to Dakar apart from those two. More options for the future.
Kenya Airways.
Ethiopia Airlines
South Africa Airways.

The first two may be a longer journey.

For you case , you may want to consider this next time, you can fly to dakar via SAA ( South Africa ) Airways. It makes a stop over in dakar on its way to Johannesburg for crew change.

SEA- IAD _ DKR or JFK- IAD- DKR.

You may check their website www.flysaa.com. Goodluck to your hubby.

Whidbey, if approved will your hubby come to the US immediately with you on your return trip? If he will stay for a while to get his affairs in order maybe you could transfer/use your miles for you're hubby's trip to the US. It doesn't help for the interview, but down the road.

Also, would being creative with your flights help? Perhaps the more direct itinerary is blacked out, but maybe a more indirect route might be available.

Thanks for the ideas reeses. Unfortunately there aren't many ways to get to Senegal, it's either Air France or Delta. I tried leaving from Seattle, New York and Atlanta for all dates between 7/30 and 8/5 - NOTHING. We talked last night and decided I am not going to go to the interview. I also really hate to waste 80,000 miles on a one way trip. So when he passes the interview I'll use the insurance money to bring him home. I pray it comes in the next three weeks. He's ready to come now. He doesn't really want to stay there with an approved visa, could be dangerous.

Now I just need to figure out how to get him all the documents and pictures. DHL doesn't deliver to his villiage. Am hoping he can pick them up in Dakar.
