Had our visa interview and medical on Tuesday and Monday respectively.

The Medical took a while - we got to the clinic around 11 am, and Valya had to go to several places in the clinic to draw blood, get x-ray and physical exam. After about 3 hours we were done. Went to get some lunch and also to find a Pro Credit Bank to pay for the visa fee for the interview the next day. Got back to the clinic by around 3:45 and got our x-ray and sealed medical.

Next day showed up at 9:15 with all our paperwork in hand. Cut in front of the line by showing my US Passport at the Embassy. Waited in the waiting room after submitting our paperwork, then 20 minutes later Val got fingerprinted. About 1-1/2 hours later she was called to the interview, I went with her and after 5-10 minutes of discussion about how we met etc we were approved! Went out, had a very nice lunch, walked the city then went to our friends flat (we made good friends with a nice couple who live in Kiev, who insisted we stay with them for the weekend and the interview) where we had a quick dinner before we had to catch the train back to Kherson.

Every day I am thankful that I get to see Nick as much as I do. Many people go for months, even YEARS without seeing each other.

I agree Laura, and I still think they should be done in date order even though I got mine quickly, I was prepared to wait 5 or 6 months. I havent seen Jay since last October but thats the way it has to be, no point moaning to anyone else about it . Wingeing over lol.

Angela, Im not sure how it is for Peru but i think most embassys its a couple of days to a week before you get your passport with the visa.

From what I understand your are suggested to wait two weeks to allow your records to be updated at the USCIS are arrival into the USA, then apply for SSN. If the court allows you to get married without SSN you could just wait till afterwards. Hope this helps.

I would get him to call and speak to someone else, you should have at least recieved a reciept. Has the check been cashed, sometimes you can get the reference number from the back of the cheque and then sign up to the uscis online.

It ended up taking 98 days.

Yes, that's quick compared to if we had filed at the CSC. But when you consider that some January VSC petitions were approved in less than 30 days, it's a wonder I haven't gone crazy by now. And there are still a few January VSCers (about 7%) waiting for their approvals.

And I guess my call to the RFE either worked, or was just luckily timed. Either way, the hardest part is done, now it's on to the next challenge... Packet 3.


With any luck he will be here before the end of July. luv.gif

From what I understand which may not be exactly right, if your poe is JFK you get a temporary work permit stamp in your passport. If that expires before the EAD comes through you then have to stop work till you get the EAD.

Hopefully someone will correct me if this is not right.

Embassy is so crazy.....I do not see how some can get theirs in 8 days when they are so slow with others. But our journey with Cairo is over now and we are sooooo grateful and excited. I received our packet 3 on Friday (WOO!!) and have begun the process of gathering all the information needed for my interview. I just have a couple of questions, first of all, do I need my American fiancee to send me over her birth certificate or is it only mine that I need to take with me for the interview?

Secondly, we are going to get a co-sponsor (My Uncle who has lived in Memphis for nearly 20 years) as my fiancee is a student going into med school and she has no money. I read on the I-134 FAQ's that both my fiancee and my Uncle will have to fill out an I-134. In this case, should my fiancee state that she has no annual income, savings, real estate etc. and should I write a cover letter explaining why my Uncle is having to sponsor me?

Thirdly, has anyone submitted their checklists when they have not yet received all the information they need? On the letter they sent me it said that once you have posted the checklist back, you will receive a letter approximately one month before your interview confirming the date. I am not going to send the checklist back anytime soon as I have only just sent off for a police check and have not received my affidavit yet, I'm just curious if anybody sent their checklist back while still waiting for police checks etc.

Thanks for your help with this, I've booked my medical for Tuesday....170 Quid!!! ohmy.gif I remember when I applied for J-1 visa's in the past my local nurse carried out the medical and it looks like I had a similar procedure as the one scheduled for Tuesday. Is the3re any real reason why you have to use the embassy approved Medical Practice or is it just to wean a few more pounds out of us?


Its only your birth certificate for the interview.
I send off the check list although i was waiting for the police check to come back, which i have now.
