PhilippinesWhat is the F@$# receipt number from BPI?
I am 'trying' to schedule an interview with the embassy in Manila. The fee was paid yesterday at 9:39. I have been trying to get past the receipt number all day. WHAT IS THE RECEIPT NUMBER? So far I have keyed in every number on the receipt.

The call center said it was the passport number, but it has been 12 hours since payment and it won't go through.

Does she have to go to the embassy in person with the receipt to schedule?

PhilippinesHelping her to adjust to life here

If you don't say anything you'll probably just notice a cup mysteriously sitting by the toilet. Do not drink from that cup.

This is almost worth trying for a couple of days to see if it happens.

PhilippinesHelping her to adjust to life here

I yanked all the seats and tanks off my toilets and bought a karaokee machine. I've got a tub of water in the garage for breeding mosquitos, gave the washer and dryer to goodwill and Im paying a neighborhood kid
to stand outside our window and yell "B A L U T"

I Love it  I never did get used to the toilet thing when I was there and at first could not find the toilet paper. I stayed with my girl's parents and on my first trip to the grocery (my first day) I bought some 'tissue'. They said not to put that into the toilet, but I stood by my guns and said it was am American thing. I have been thinking of how to approach her delicately about some bathroom issues (i.e. toilet seats, flushing the paper, and even using paper) Any advise?

PhilippinesHelping her to adjust to life here
Thanks for all the advise. There are a lot of Filipina's here (my sister in-law included) and I have been my girl through Facebook. Also, my fiance's sister came over in 2009 and lives about 100 miles away. We are planning a weekend visit shortly after she gets here. She also has a friend that lives a little farther, but we may be able to visit there too.

I am remodeling my house, so it may not be the cleanest, but it is understood and we are talking about paint colors and decorating. I am planning to take a trip to the Asian market and get a big rice cooker. I have a couple of warm jackets/coats already in he closet and plan to take one when I pick her up.

Again thanks,
Jim

As for making her "adjust", just make sure there are no visible marks. When smacking her around you don't want evidence if she happens to go to the hospital afterwards. I have found a tube sock with two tennis balls inside very effective.

Good idea, Now to shop for those ankle chains to keep her in the bedroom and kitchen.

This might be optimistic, but I want to ask now anyway. Our interview is Friday and I have a normal case, so I feel that it is pretty sure that we will be seeing each other by the end of this month. My question(s) are: Besides cleaning my house like crazy, corralling my dogs, and being a loving and understanding fiance', What are some things I can do to make her transition easier?

I am asking some of the couples that have been through this successfully.

Thanks,
Jim

Congrats

I'm with the others, $2k is a lot of money. When I started looking at the process, it looked really complicated and overwhelming. After reading the guides and looking at the forms, it really isn't that bad. I was approved in around 90 days and I am on to the medical and interview preparations.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportswhat is considered large age difference?
I asked the question a couple of weeks ago. I am 51 and my girl is 31. I believe that, as others have said, it is more about a real relationship than an age difference.

There will, however, be lots of opinions given by everyone about your younger bride. I have found these to come mainly from American women near my age. All of the guy think that it is great ;)

Good luck,
Jim

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMeeting my Girl soon! questions?

You're already one step ahead than most couples who are doing the K1 visa and find VJ after being with their loved ones and not saving/documents to show proof of a relationship. Of course, don't forget the engagement ring which will definitely show intent and help solidify to the USCIS that you are serious about marriage. ;)

Oh yes, the ring. She doesn't think I'm bringing one, but I am. She will be very suprised! :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMeeting my Girl soon! questions?

Get a couple 2"x2" passport photos.

Get plenty of pictures together, especially with family. Document the trip, keep receipts, itinerary, etc...

Foreign Birth cert and passport needed when interviewing for the visa, not needed when filing petition.

Thanks for the info. I'm real new to this and I will probably 'lean' on this forum heavily during our journey

Best,
Jim

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMeeting my Girl soon! questions?
I will be traveling to the Phillipines at the end of this month to meet my girl in person. We have agreed to work on our paperwork (K1 visa application) while I am there. I have a question about the information I should get copied from her for her G-325 form (Biographic Info).

So far the list is:
1. Get her G-325 filled out, printed (somewhere) and signed.
2. Get her letter of intent signed, I will print it prior to leaving.

Qustion: Should I get a photo copy of her birth certificate or passport to send along with the G-325?

Thanks,

Jim

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat should i bring to first meet?
I just got back from my meeting trip. We took pictures in front of a dated event sign/banner and at a national monument in Manila. I saved all my reciepts and boarding passes. I had my fiance's 325 form filled out and ready to sign, also I had her letter of intent (i used the one on this site). We did passport pictures together and I took one of her and one of me. She will need some for her medical and interview (I think) and I wanted them to be the same.

Just my experience,

Jim

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 Petition submitted
First let me say that this forum helped me extensively to sort out all the details of my K1 application. I'm glad there is a place where others going through the same process can support each other. I just got back from a great 9 day trip to Manila to meet my fiance'. The country is beautiful and its people very hospitable. We were able to get all the parts of the application done that require my fiance's signature. We also got our passport pictures. This was the first time that we both realized that "hey we are really doing this" I was a real special moment.

So, after a couple of trips to the copy shop and alot of double checking, it's mailed

Thanks agin for the help VisaJourney.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAge difference question
Thanks again everyone. I feel really good about things now. Although I suspected it might not be a problem, I thought I would ask.

There does seem to be some differing opinion here in the US regarding younger brides. So far I've heard a lot -- mainly from uninformed and opinionated people. I guess many of you know what I mean. In general, all of the guys would love to be in my position. Most of the women think I'm buying a child bride or don't understand why I don't meet a nice Amerian woman. Oh well, we can't live our lives for the approval of others.

Thanks,

jim

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAge difference question
Thanks everyone for the ind wishes.

Yes, we are well documented. We have saved everything and I will compile and send it to my girl when she needs it. I have gotten into the habit of sending a card or package every 2-3 weeks. This will be good evidence, but more importantly, the cards and gifts mean a lot to her. It's very hard being apart, and conditions there are not quite as comfy as they are here. I only wish she could come sooner.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAge difference question
My fiance' and I have submitted a K1 visa application. She is from the Phillipines and I am from the US. I have been hearing a little about age difference being an issue with approval. I am 51 and she is 31. I realize this is a 20 year spread, but she is no teenager. I would think that it may be more of an issue if she were younger, say 18-25 and I was 38-45. We are almost 60 days into our wait after NOA1.

What do you VJ'es think? Will this be an issue?

Thanks.

Good news!! I got the letter and all they want is more evidence of us meeting. I only sent about 5 pictures and some reciepts. I realize that in all the pictures I sent, we were wearing sunglasses! Also I did not send a copy of my passport.

Now, I will be sending more pictures (w/o sunglasses), the copied passport and more reciepts.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresRFE Finished, but a little concern
Well I got my RFE finished. Passport copied, airline ticket reciepts and iternerary, boarding passes, and more pics. My concern is about the pictures. The instructions say that film-dated photos are needed as secondary evidence, but my camera did/does not do that!!! I had to write the date, people and place on the back of each photo. The pictures were saved by date in my camera, but the camera doesn't print it.

I have all the primary evidence sumbitted, but the secondard (due to the date on the pics) may not be 100%

Should I be worried?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 visa, just starting.

Hey Jim, good point. There is no record for either of us, I have a divorce, that is it.

Can I ask, from start to finish, how long was your process, since your fiance is Filipina, (mine lives in Manila), thx.

I'm divorced too, but just include a copy of your divorce decree with your package and that's all that is needed. Be sue to include ALL the pages. I submitted my papers in May and the they got them 5/12/2011. I was just approved last week, so it was right at 90 days.

My girl is from Manila too. I was there in late April of this year and really enjoyed myself.

good luck,

Jim
