United KingdomPaying for courier at embassy!!

I'm just curious as I'm trying to gauge what day I could fly out after my interview on the 1st of August and receiving my passport back.

At the embassy, is there just the one fee for one delivery method, or do they give you a choice and you can pay more to get your passport back a day or two sooner??

Thank you in advance smile.png

It's all next day delivery.  You have a choice between 'before 8am', 'before 10am', before 12pm' and 'before 6pm'.  All at different prices, naturally,  I opted for 'before 10am' and it arrived at 6:30am!  Luckily, I was up and dressed as I was nervous about it arriving as I had a flight booked for 2 days later.

Just be warned.  I have heard it reported that if the courier firm (DX) feel that they can't make your timeslot for the next day, they will not update their website to show it being delivered the next day.  They will hold it back a day so they can make your slot.  Not an issue for me, as I lived in London so they could easily get it to me by 10am.  May be an issue for people further away from London.

I had my interview on 18 June, DX website update on 24 June at 10am and visa in my hand at 6:30am on 25 June.

United KingdomExcess Baggage / Air freight and batteries

Oh no, sorry to hear you've had such a tough time. I haven't taken out insurance as I don't really have much of value (just 3 bookshelves worth of tatty books really) and I felt as all my items were cheap that a claim wouldn't be worth it! If the boxes got dropped or smashed around i think nothing should matter, the only think I coud think would be if they dumped a vat of water on them. I was going to wrap all the books in bin bags but I got too flustered halfway through and decided they're going to just have to take their chances! I'm a bit worried now but oh well...

As for delivery dates, I guess I have many weeks to go to find out about that! I shall report back when I do smile.png

Hope they didn't break anything sentimental / important to you!

The major thing that got broken was a marble chessboard. I bought it many years ago in Greece.  In hindsight, I should have listed it separately in the inventory for insurance purposes.  It had no sentimental value really but I had always wanted a marble chessboard and chess set and fell in love with this one on holiday.  I have looked for a replacement on eBay but the weight is making the shipping costly.  When we are a bit more caught up on money (and I've got a job!), I may consider replacing it.

The other thing damaged was one of my boxed sets of my Doctor Who DVDs - I may just replace them with the US version.

United KingdomExcess Baggage / Air freight and batteries

Oh no my boxes went Excess Baggage yesterday sad.png it seemed VJ members had used a lot and recommended them...

I thought their boxes were awesome though, and their tape, certainly lot stronger than the ikea boxes and shitty packing tape I was planning on sending them in...

I am sending them on a boat though. What problems did you have? Anything I can watch out for? I am really only sending books / clothes so there isn't really anything damageable - but hopefully they dont lose it or something...

Maybe I was unlucky then.  They just messed me around with delivery dates a lot.  Two things were broken by the time they came here and the boxes were very battered (I sent mine air freight).  I hope you've taken out insurance and done a good inventory with values if the items.  I lumped stuff together - e.g. 10 items worth $100.  When it came to my claim, the adjuster said that meant that all 10 items were worth $10 each.  I said 'No, it doesn't. One item was worht $50 and the others $5 each'.  They wouldn't listen and decided that my claim wouldn't be passed as the total value of broken items was below 50 pounds (their 'admin fee').  I thunk that either one of my boxes was dropped or something was dropped onto it.  Excess Baggage's customer service since has been pretty awful - they aren't listening to my complaints.  I expected the boxes to be strapped to make them more sturdy - EB blamed UPS for not strapping them.  I said 'But my contract is with you, not UPS.'

I had so many problems with them but the main issue is that they did not take good care of my belongings (and their boxes are #######).

lol I hope its generic I remember the NOA2 was suppose to take 5 months and we got approved in less than 3 tongue.png so fingers crossed ay? tongue.png

It took 9 very slow months for our NOA2 to come....

Anyway - that's all behind me now.  I'm a married woman of 2 weeks!

'6 weeks' is the standard reply from the 'extortion line'.  Take no notice of that.  I was told by them that there was no chance that I would make my wedding date and yet I arrived in the US 2 weeks before my wedding!  Things that I was told took '6 weeks' actually took 2 weeks.

I wonder if we had the same lady?  She was a black american woman, I'd guess around her mid-30s? Very pretty.

That sounds like her.  She was so nice and her smile was so warm.

I don't know. She was jokey, I was jokey. Everyone was happy.

The conversation started with her turning to my husband and saying "Don't be offended, but we're going to talk about you while you're standing right there." with a laugh, like we were about to gossip.

My closing question to her was "so this envelope I can't open, it's just my file and you're using me as a human document mule, right?" To which she laughed and nodded.

We joked that today probably wasn't the day my husband should find out about my convictions too, when she asked me to confirm I had none. "So... Dear... There's something I need to tell you..." I joked at him. She was laughing during most of the interview. She was even doing pretend typing to make me laugh when I commented on her making notes.

Actually our interviewer was just the same.  She was absolutely lovely.  I agree that by this stage I was fairly relaxed.  I was more stressed about the paperwork but once that was out of the way, I felt fine.  I knew that our relationship was genuine and that would come across to the interviewer immediately.  It was just a handful of questions 'how did you meet?', 'when did you first discuss marriage?' (which was actually 6 days after we reconnected via FB!). It was just a conversation.  As with you, I had a load of backup information.  I didn't need it and I knew I wouldn't but it made me feel more confident.

You need permission to e-mail the Embassy.  If you e-mail without permission, they will delete the e-mail.

I phoned the 'extortion line' and got a code which allowed me to e-mail the Embassy.  I requested permission for my then fiance (I was a K1) to accompany me to the interview.  They e-mailed back within 3 hours to say to was fine and he had to remember to bring his passport with him.  It felt great to have him with me.

United KingdomRecieved NOA2, currently with fiance in the States, what should I gather while here?

Thanks for the quick reply!

Greatly appreciate your response, we will fill the I-134 before I leave, and I'll ask my fiance to request a letter from her employer.

I'll include 6 months of her pay slips too. She receives them online only, no physical copies, with experience of the interview, do you think these will suffice?

Presumably you can print them out from the online system?  I know I could when I had online payslips.  They should suffice.  Once you've photocopied them, it won't be evident that they've been printed out from online.

United KingdomRecieved NOA2, currently with fiance in the States, what should I gather while here?

Hi guys,

Firstly, I'm extremely grateful our petition was approved on July 20th. I called the DOS today, but the NVC has not yet received our case, so expecting/hoping to have our case number to hand in the next 10-14 days.

I've been in the US with my fiance on this trip since May (made the most of graduating University by celebrating with 3 months with my wife to be!) and I return back home to England in 10 days time.

While I'm here I thought it'd best to get all forms required by my fiance while I'm here, so we don't have to worry about posting them etc.

I know we require my fiance's tax forms, which we are ordering over the phone today, but what other documents or evidence do I require from my fiance?

I read you require proof of her employment to make the interview easier, will 2 printed pay slips suffice?

I appreciate your time reading this, hopefully you guys can help us out.

Thanks,
Matt

London don't require a great deal of employment documentation, as long as your fiancee earns over the required amount.

As you are in the US, I would suggest that your fiance asks her employer for a letter confirming her employment - job title, salary, start date, etc.  You can order tax transcripts online here - http://www.irs.gov/I...er-a-Transcript  You will need one for London and then the last 3 years for AOS (you only need to send the last year but you will need the amounts for the last 3 years for the I-184)

Payslips are good.  I included the last 6 (my fiance is paid weekly).  I photocopied then and took the originals with me also.

Have you also got here to complete the I-134?  It needs a wet signature, so if you can get her to complete it for you to travel back with it, that will save some time.

And congratulations on your NOA2!  Welcome to the next stage if your journey.

United KingdomPacket 3 specific instructions

I am likely going to send off my DS forms and cover letter etc before I actually see the instructions, so my question is are there any specific instructions regarding send them off.

I know which forms and address etc what I mean is:-

Can you staple stuff together or do they request you not to, use paper clips or something or do they want them loose for copying. Like 2 pages of DS 230 or any additional sheets you may have for some of the forms.

Do they care if you send it special delivery so it has to be signed for or would they rather you did not.

Or any other specific instructions they may have.

Cheers

There is an example 'packet 3' letter at post 18 on this page - http://www.visajourn...w-thread/page-2

I sent mine by courier as I was in the US at the time.  However, I would suggest sending it by Special Delivery Guaranteed - http://www.royalmail...=CLT_0613_LP_19  Personally, I don;t think the 9am service is worth the extra and I always worry that someone might not be there to receive it.  I would suggest the before 1pm service.

United KingdomCan I start a new job?

Nich-Nick, just figured the timeline thing out,

I'm worried because they haven't logged my DS2001. I'm assuming they do that via CEAC? Laura Clare, it's so frustrating. I feel as if my life is completely on hold. I can't work, can't study and we can't afford a plane tocket right now for him to come over and visit. If my interview is not going to be until mid-late Sept (I'm just assuming from that one recent poster whose interview is 12th Sept) I need to get a job...sad.png

Any change should show an update date on CEAC.  However, have you tried phoning DOS to find out your current status?

And I totally empathize with you feeling like your life is on hold.  I was made redundant in Nov 2012 and I didn't get another job as I thought our NOA2 was just around the corner (we had an NOA1 date if 24 July 2012).  Little did I know that our NOA2 date wasn't going to be until 18 April 2013!  Luckily, as I was made redundant, I did have funds to keep myself (and I did spend a lot of time in the US) but I did feel like my life was on hold.  Things sped up considerably once we had the NOA2.

However, it did come to an end and we married 18 days ago.

Yes I saw that too, it arrived today! Also saw someone else with an interview friday who got a call today and was told it would be there tomorrow! So you never know, if we keep those fingers crossed we may hear from them tomorrow/thursday! And I know, the whole process is so stressful that by the end you are completely on edge and don't think you can have been approved so easily! The people we saw today turned away ANY financial proof at all aside from the form itself, and I'd been so worried as my fiance is self employed, so I kept asking if she was sure she didn't want to see anything! At least we are nearly over the worst of all this smile.png xx

I know.  It's a bit of an anti-climax, isn't it?  You want to say to them 'Don't you want to see my work?'

Do you think that is AnnaGrant's birth certificate? Go Anna--newlywed at 165 years old!

Ha!  After going through this process, I sometimes feel it (and more process to go through again - at least I managed to do a walk-in biometrics yesterday 12 days before my appointment,  Whether or not that makes any difference, I don't know but at least it's out of the way).

All I did was do a Goggle image search on 'full birth certificate UK' and 'short birth certificate UK' and then posted 2 of the images I found.  It was just to clearly show the difference between the two types of birth certificate.  The images I used are already in the public domain.

I've see people post that the younger people don't have that pink version. My husband's is pink like that.

To the OP. if you mean you ordered a new copy of your birth certificate from officials so it is certified official in some way, by the agency supplying it, then it is fine.

If you mean you only have a photocopy you made of the original, then no.

Yes, my most recent certified copy is from 2012 and it is kind of beige rather than pink.  What I meant was there is a difference in a full birth certificate and a short birth certificate (I just want to limit the chance of someone doing what the other poster did - although the instructions are clear that it needs to be a full certificate).

Hi guys,I'm Just wondering if it matters that I don't have the original copy of my birth certificate?I lost the original years ago when moving house.so I had to get a new copy in 2009.

The copy is fine as long as it is a certified copy AND the full certificate.  A short certificate is not accepted.

So it has to look like this:

And not like this:

United KingdomInterview in 10 days... Need help!

So I got my letter for my interview at the US embassy in London today... my interview is 10 days away! Very pleased and excited, but nervous too.
Me and my American Fiance have a baby together, he was born on the 3rd April of this year. He automatically had claim to US Citizenship and now has a US passport. As baby was 3 months premature, my Fiance came over for 3 months at the start of May for support and has only just returned to the US.
My Fiance is ex infantry, having left the army after a 3 year service last September. Since leaving, he has spent quite a large amount of time over here, as well as working a series of jobs and in January of this year started college. As a college student, the military pay him $1080 a month alongside his college tuition fees.
I understand the above amount is not enough to qualify for the affidavit of support. For this reason, we are having his Mum as a co-sponsor.
My Fiance is currently in search of a part time job...although can't see this happening before my interview!
With my Fiance's stable work history, his payments from the military, his career prospects and his mothers co-sponsorship, what do you think our chances are?!

We are extremely nervous, as he already misses his baby boy! ALSO... my growing baby's nursery furniture is in the states... need to get him over there asap.

We have no problem in validating our relationship - think our little bundle is proof enough! But just worried about this affidavit of support. We know in ourselves that we can get by, but don't know how to convince the interviewer of this!

What financial documents do we need to provide for himself and his mother? (e.g tax returns - what years, employment proof, military payments, college grants etc.)

Thanks for the help!!

Has your sponsor completed the I-134 with wet signature?

As you have been given an interview date, I assume that you sent your DS-2001 saying you had all your documentation ready?

You have left it too late to get tax transcripts but your fiances mother might still be able to get an employers letter. You just need the last year's tax return. Luckily London is one of the easiest embassies when it comes to incom proof.

Yes I did do a cover letter with all those things on - I just didn't specifically ask for an email of my appointment, so don't know if they will email me?

I think that QoB's experience is the exception rather than the rule.  I think she was told the date of her interview because she asked for permission for her fiance to accompany her and they just happened to have the date to hand.

Personally. I think too much is being drawn from QoB's experience.

Good morning, just a quick update. My fiancé in the UK received an email this morning from the US Dept. of State and Visa Appointment and Info System with a link to courier details and yes it is DXS. He then had to choose a delivery hub. We now have to wait 3 days for it to be processed and be ready for pick up. We did not coordinate any courier details before his interview which was yesterday morning. So they will get in contact with you either way.

Yeah. I knew I can, it's just having to email them and tell them I want her to come and give her name. We're just gonna go and hope that she makes it in. I'm going to print out the request I sent them and hope they let her in.

Thanks for the reply Anna, I'll call DOS now.

My medical is booked for Aug 31st, all my forms were delivered on 21st Aug, but I'm hoping as our wedding is scheduled for Oct 4th (as stated on my cover sheet with DS forms) that our interview will be ASAP

Your interview will not be scheduled until the Embassy have received the results of your medical - er August 31st?  Isn't that Saturday?  I thought they only scheduled medicals for Mon to Fri?

If your medical in this week, you may need to factor in that Monday is Labor Day and the US Embassy will be closed.  My results were sent to the Embassy 2 working days after my medical (they say to allow 5 working days).

United KingdomApproaching 12 mth ACPO validity

The main issue I see for you is that, when you are granted your visa, you are given 6 months to enter the US on a K1 visa from the date of your medical.  The timings at the moment seem to be 5 weeks to be told of your interview date, which will be about a month later.  So you could be looking at an interview date of around early to mid November.  So your visa could be ready mid to late November.  Is this going to be more than 6 months after your medical date?  Would you be able to leave the UK as soon as you receive your visa?  I know I left 2 days after receiving mine but I didn't have kids to think about!

The police certificate needs to be valid at the time of the interview.

The flu shot is only necessary if you have the medical in flu season.

Nich-Nick should be able to give you more detailed information.

I'm just going to prepeare everything I need for the interview now. Just in case it's scheduled for the day after I receive my letter or something. (I don't trust them one bit.)

DOS are open from 9am until 5pm ET (so 2pm until 10pm London time).  Azsara has given you the full number to call from the UK - I always used Skype to call as it was so much cheaper than using a land line.

Just to warn you that DOS appear to be getting a little irritated by all the calls from the UK at the moment - the London Embassy changed some of their procedures a few weeks ago and no one seems to be getting anywhere with contacting the London Embassy at the moment.   So everyone is phoning DOS.  I would just suggest that, if you call DOS, you say 'I notice that my case was updated on 18 August.  Can you tell me what happened to cause that update?'  It is likely to be the receipt of your medical results.  When you call have your case number, both your full names and DOBs (remember to state them in the US way) with you.  That sound daft as I know my husband's DOB of course, but when phoning them I always had it written down in front of me in the US format.

United KingdomCEAC Creation date changed to today's date? What does this mean?

Did your case status changed to "Issued" on CEAC or did the creation date just change? At the mo I'm still expecting mine to change to "Issued", but not sure if this happens with all cases or how common it is.

The creation date changed and then it moved to 'Issued' within a day.

It looks like good news at last.  The case creation date changed when my visa was issued and I'm sure that has happened to a couple of people here recently too.
