United KingdomLondon Medical - Knightsbridge Doctors
I'm sorry because I think I've asked this question before but I just wanted to be certain about this - we got our NOA2 yesterday after almost 9 months of waiting, so I'm trying to get all our ducks in a row.

I'm currently in the US but intend to go for my medical the day after I arrive back in the UK at the end of May. I only have one copy of my Police Certificate. I want to be certain that the doctors only need to see the original and will then retain a copy of it that I will bring along. Is this correct? I believe that the Police Certificate is needed for later in the process.

I wish I had asked for 2 copies of the darn certificate to be provided when I ordered it. Oh well. You live and learn.

United KingdomBefore you permanently move to the US

I'm really kicking myself for not thoroughly reading this topic earlier.

I arrived in the US two days ago, and it's suddenly dawned on me that I'm not sure it's what I wanted. Feels like there's no way back to the UK now.

Do';t worry Laura.  It's natural to feel this way.  You have spent months just pushing and pushing to get your K1 visa done.  Then you POE into the US and you think 'Oh.  I'm here now.'  I felt rather strange about it.  Although we called it 'our apartment', it didn't really feel like it as I didn't live there permanently.

You need to keep yourself occupied whilst you await your EAD.  I attended job fairs and job workshops - checking your local Township's website for workshops,  They are free and really useful.  I got a job out of my first job fair and had to ask for my EAD to be expedited.  It has been mailed today.

You will feel some homesickness.  Remember to keep in contact with people in the UK through Skype and Facebook.  But create new friends by going to a gym (classes are a hood way of meeting people) or joining the local library and attending workshops.  I'm got to one this week on downloading books to Kindles.  I know how to do that but I thought it would be a good way of meeting local people.

It will get easier.  It has only been 2 days.  If you would like to chat, PM me and I'll send you my phone number.

United KingdomGetting A New ESTA Whilst In The K1 Process
Just an update.

Because I couldn't leave the processing of my new passport to chance (they are taking 4 weeks), I went for the premium service. Made the appointment late on Friday for the following Wednesday at 8:15 in Eccleston Sq, London. Took about 30 - 40 minutes (20 minutes of that was waiting). Lucratve business - lots of people going through the premium route. Cost £128 but at least I had my new passport 4 hours later and then submitted my ESTA when I gto back home. Was processed fine.

Whilst at the passport office, the person dealing with my passport looked at the photo in my passport and then at my new phot and went back and forth a few times. I said 'yes, I've lost 60lbs in weight in 9.5 years'. 'Yes, you have', she said 'But I can still see it's you.' I was very glad about that as I would have had to go to get it countersigned if she didn't think it was me!

United KingdomGetting A New ESTA Whilst In The K1 Process

Well, it depends on if you get NOA2 and NVC sends it quickly on to London, and if you have your medical exam before you leave. They won't assign an interview until the medical is received, so you may be putting a 5-6 week pause in there and will do the medical and DS-2001 after your return. In that case, no need to inform them because without those last two things, they won't assign an interview anyway. Too early to know with the petition not actually approved. If you are able to get everything in before the trip, then I would inform them. Some people get two weeks or less notice before their interview.

Thank you very much Nich-Nick. From browsing the site more tonight, I can see that your information is very helpful. Thanks again.

United KingdomGetting A New ESTA Whilst In The K1 Process
Thanks for all the advice

The current turn around time for passport renewals is 4 weeks. I can't take that chance. So I've just booked an appointment for the premimium service for Wednesday which will enable me to have a new passport in 4 hours. Then I'll apply for a new ESTA linked to my new passport

With current timelines for interviews in London, I thought there was no chance that I would be called to one before 10 January (my likely return date). However, is it still best to include in the cover letter that I'm not available for interview until 11 January?

United KingdomGetting A New ESTA Whilst In The K1 Process
Our US lawyer told me that I couldn't come back to the US until I had the K1 visa - I came back on Tuesday from 89 days with my guy. We submitted the I-129F and got the NOA1 on 24 July, so are hoping to get the NOA2 shortly. I am being made redundant in late November and have sold my flat in anticipation of moving to the US. Therefore, I have nothing to tie me here. I will be leaving most of my stuff, so will get a letter from my landlady saying that I have a significant amount of stuff in storage with her to indicate I'm going to return. I will come over from the end of November until early January. I will probably pay my landlady rent for the time I'm gone as she won't be able to rent it out for such a short period of time.

I have a question though. My passport is due to expire on 13 March 2013 so I was going to renew it now. However, now I'm concerned about my ESTA as that is linked to my passport expiry date. If I renew my passport now, I have to get a new ESTA. Might I be refused one as their records will show that the is a K1 application in process? Would I be better to hold back on renewing it until I get further into the process? I know that I am supposed to have 6 months left on my passport when I travel but also am aware that the US extend passports for travel from people from the UK by 6 months past their expiry date.

Has anyone had experience of getting a new ESTA whilst in the middle of the K1 process? Thanks.

The 'Yes, you can visit' thread has given me hope. I did post this in that thread initially.

United Kingdom221G for lack of ongoing relationship evidence!!
This has worried me slightly, as we have mainly chatted using video calls through GMail. They don't have a log - just text chats do. So I won't be able to proove those. We have 100s of e-mails and text chats. Some of them quiet......er fruity? When we doing them, I never thought they might be used as evidence! Maybe I'll print off the cleaner ones - if I can find them. However, we do have loads of photos including one on official one on the glass floor on the Skydeck at the Willis Tower. It's also available online at the Skydeck site. I just hope this is all enough. I'm due to go back for Christmas - maybe I'll bring back some of the cards I've given him over the past year.

United KingdomNew here :). Would someone mind giving some advice?

You can order your police certificate now, it's usually good for 6 months so you can go ahead and order it as soon as possible.

Actually, the police certificate is valid for 12 months.  Not that it's relevant in this circumstance but I thought I had better recheck this as I got mine in October in the mistaken hope that my NOA2 was just around the corner:

http://london.usemba...proc.html#iv041

I'm now in AP at NVC - I just hope it's not for long :-(

United KingdomQuestion Re: Beneficiary moving

One thing I might mention about the Police Certificate is it's valid for 12 months.  Therefore, I would suggest that she orders it now.  She would have to provide 2 pieces of 'official' correspondence with her address on it to prove that she lives there.  If she moves with her parents, that might be more difficult in the short term.

I speak from experience   When I applied for my PC, I had just moved in with a friend after selling my flat.  She had to provide 2 pieces of correspondence and a letter to say she was my landlady and why I couldn't provide the required correspondence.  In your situation, it may be even more difficult as your fiancee and her parents would be moving at the same time.

United KingdomMedical questions

I've been looking at the medical questionnaire and searched on VJ and this thread came up.

It's about the 'Have you ever been hospitalized'.  The only time I'm been in hospital was when I was about 18 (I'm now 50) when it was suspected appendicitis (um - it wasn't - I was severely constipated through stress - rather embarrassing).  It is so long ago, do you think I should put this down?  Or maybe leave the question blank for now and discuss it at the medical?  Or am I over thinking again?

United KingdomUK to USA immigration experiences ...?

Good to know we can still visit each other though. I'm assuming as long as I can prove I will be returning to the UK upon visiting him , like with a letter from my employer or something I should be approved entry.

Check the list here of useful stuff to take with you to prove your intent to return to the UK after your trips to the US:

United KingdomUK to USA immigration experiences ...?

My lawyer also advised me not to visit my fiance in the US but it is possible and loads of people do it - see here - http://www.visajourn...-you-can-visit/ - it's for K1s but the situation regarding travel is similar for you.

Check the guides regarding the particular route you've chosen for more infro - http://www.visajourn...tent/i130guide1

We took the K1 route, which is supposed to be quicker than the CR1 route.  However, we got our NOA1 on 24 July 2012 and our paperwork was only received by the London Embassy last week.  We will be lucky if I am in the US by the anniversary of our NOA2.  The delay is in the initla stages in the US, not in the UK.  Whether your application is straight-forward or not will have little impact on the US side.

I dont know how i missed that out and yes i did have it checked and it was all good. How did yours go?

I had to have it taken 3 times before it would go down.  It always goes up when I'm in a doctor's surgery and the pressure of passing this medical raised it even further.  I asked for the third chance and said I needed to go someone quietly and it would go down.  And it did.  I possibly made a mistake of having my medical at 15:10 after landing at Heathrow at 9:00 that morning from my last trip to the US!  However, I had been monitoring my BP for two weeks over in the US and it had been fine.

Still.  We're through to the next stage (that sounds like a talent show) and only one step to go.

Hi guys

I had my interview today and checked my case status this evening. It says AP on mine also. Interview was at London.

I hope it's not in AP, as I fly on the 14th! Do you think the steps the operator described are correct?

Cheers

Hi Rob

It's crazy to use an acronym such as AP when we all dread it.  But in this situation, I beleive it's actually short for APPROVED.

United KingdomHow long for DOS to register packet 3 forms sent in?

Ok thanks! I had completely forgotten about CEAC satus until last night. It was filed away in my brain as "things to do with NVC stage" section of worries.

I checked it then and it still said 23rd May, the date my packet 3 was sent out. I check it today and it says updated date =  4th June! (The message is still "Ready", didn't change)

My medical was yesterday (4th) so I assume that there is no way that got delivered already and hence this means my forms got received? Although some people on here have been saying that the forms wouldnt go in until they get processed 4-6 weeks later. Still, I'm putting my freak out due to post-medical anti-climax.

I shall wait until next monday and then call to check to see if the medical results and forms are in there! I love VJ, I don't know what I would do without you guys to quash my ridiculous fears... Thanks for the reply smile.png

Zoe

Remember to try phoning DOS first rather than the extortion line.  As long as you have cheap calls to the US, that is.  I phoned DOS yesterday to ask 'My staus was updated today.  Can you tell me what happened to update it?'  To be told I had been allocated an interview on 18 June.

Also, with the 4-6 weeks thing.  Remember that the call center operators on the extortion line will always tell you something like ' 4 to 6 weeks' for everything.  For instance, they told me on Monday that I wouldn't have an interview in time for me to make my wedding (12 July) but the very next day I was allocated an interview.  Unfortunately, I had to phone them as I had to pay the MRV fee.  As the calls are charged at £1.23 a minute, it can sometimes be cheaper to phone the equivalent US number for the London Embassy and pay the flat fee of $20 (thanks to Rob C for that tip).

I wouldn't worry yet.  My packet 3 forms were received by the Embassy on Friday 10 May but were not recorded as received until Monday 20 May.

What does it say about your case when you check it on the CEAC website?

United Kingdominterview london

now im panicking ! ok i will get new forms done and sent off by registered post, what's the address nick that i send the new ones to ? the others i sent to 24 grosvenor square ? will they pass on those forms i already sent,ds 230i/ii and 2001 ! or do i resend all of them again,ds 230 i/ii ds 2001,156,157,157k,my gut feeling is not to trust them to forward them to the correct dept, but to send the whole lot again to the right one myself,i tried e mailing the embassy but i got an automated reply saying they dont read mails and it my mail was deleted, and to look at the embassy web site or telephone the helpline,i cant believe they sent the wrong letter with probably the wrong address on the letter heading for the K1fiance visa, !! thanks for telling me its very much appreciated

To be allowed to e-mail the Embassy, you need a 'code' from the extortion line.  You phone them up, explain the situation and then beg for the code.  The code is valid for a week.  Then put that code only in the subject line of your e-mail - that is, no other text must be in the subject line but the code.

If you do not use a code, the Embassy will delete your e-mail without reading it.  When you use the code, they open the e-mail.

United KingdomHow does medical condition affect visa

As you haven't yet got your NOA2, your fiance has not had his medical.  There is a question 'have you been hospitalised?' which he will have to answer 'yes; to and will have to explain.  there is also a question - 'Have you ever had a stroke, seizures or other neurological disorder?'  Again, he will have to answer 'yes' and explain.  Does he have something from his doctor which explains what happened and how he's recovered?

I'm not saying that he won't pass the medical but I would suggest doing some prepartory work.  Someone may be along shortly who has experience of your particular situation.

You say it was only his speech affected and that has now returned to normal?  Was his balance affected at all?  Or any strength in his arms?  It's just, gaving recently been the medical in London, there are balance tests and a few where you have to push back against the doctor's arms.

United KingdomLondon Embassy Questions?

I think I've found my answer on the Embassy page

An interview date is *sometimes* issued more quickly if applicants can show that they have concrete wedding/travel plans, but not always. If applying through London, plan for a 10-12 week wait in between the Consulate's receipt of packet 3 and the actual interview. E-mail is definitely the best way to contact London if necessary.

Its a bit contradictory though isn't it?  As the Embassy advise you not to plan anything until your visa has been approved.

I have my interview two weeks after they received the results of my medical (the interview will be 18 days after the medical actually occurred).  However, I did have evidence of my wedding date which I sent along with my 'readiness' form and covering letter.

If you are planning your medical, I take it that you have your Police Certificate?  Has your petitioner completed the I-134 and given you the supporting documentation?

And, yes, the Embassy site is contradictory in places.  Most of your questions will be answered in the thread that Nich-Nick linked to.

United KingdomLondon interview - relationship evidence

Aw. That's cute. I wish we had a romantic story.  That's such a good one!

"How did he propose?"  "Well, he didn't. We discussed like adults whether we'd like to be married or not. We don't think on-the-spot surprises are the right way to go about making life-altering decisions." Boo for us.

We had been talking about marriage for a long time anyway.  In fact, he initially proposed to me via e-mail only 6 days after we re-connected.  The 'official' proposal came 6 months after we re-connected.  We had a relationship 20 years ago and then re-connected via FB in Oct 2011.

Anna GrantFemaleUnited Kingdom2013-07-04 05:24:00
United KingdomLondon interview - relationship evidence

Although we went the K1 route, I just wanted to add my two-pennyworth.

I took our scrapbooks we went to the Embassy.  They weren't needed during the interview but when she asked 'How did he propose?', I told her and whipped out the scrapbook and showed her the photos (my fiance had a t-shirt printed with our photo and 'Julie, I love you.  Will you marry me?'  When I said 'yes', he produced another one saying 'Wally, I love you too.  Of course I will.'  I did ask him if he also had one printed saying 'No' or 'I need to think about it.')  I also have a map of the zoo where he proposed with a x at the spot he proposed.

So.  Just saying, they are not needed but for me I just felt better having them with me and it helped when answering that question.  In fact, I think that was the last question before she said the magic words 'You're approved'.

Anna GrantFemaleUnited Kingdom2013-07-04 04:57:00
United KingdomHow long from "Issued" to with DX??!!

OK - my visa was issued early on Thursday 20 June (after my interview on 18 June).  The DX website updated at 10am on Monday 24 June to say that my visa would be delivered on Tuesday 25 June (I had been refreshing the DX page since about 7:30 am so knew the time it was updated - I did get a text message but it wasn't until the afternoon).  My visa was delivered at 6:30am although I only paid for before 10am delivery (luckily I was up and dressed - I was really nervous about receiving it).  I lived in North London.  I was then on a plane to the US on Thursday 27 June.

Judging by the fact that you are 15 days behind me, I would suggest that DX will update their site next Tuesday and you should receive your passport and visa next Wednesday.  If it's any earlier than that, then that's a bonus.

I buy a Mexican vanilla from the 99 cent Only store here in SoCal.  The name brand is Molina.  It is my favourite extract to use.  I was just checking the bottle and it looks like it actually comes from Mexico

I buy mine from Aldi in the US.  It's really good and about $1.87.  I can't believe the price of it in Meijers and the like.

This made my laugh!  My suitcase had a number of packets of Warbuton's crumpets last time.  In fact, the last time I had an American 'British' crumoet, I posted the photo on FB to show my UK friends.  Two took pity on me and sent me more Warbuotn crumpets.

I really want to take Levi Root's Reggae Reggae sauce with me this week.  As it's a 'table sauce', I think it's allowed.  Can anyone confirm that?  that is, has someone taken in soemthing similar like HP Sauce?

Oh.  And last time, I also took with me some Eccles Cakes.  We'd watched a railway program with Michael Portilo and he went to Eccles and my fiance was dying to try an Eccles Cakes after seeing them being made.

For Christmas, I asked my fiance if he would like me to make a Christmas cake.  He said 'oh yes please!'  i did and presented it to him and he said 'What is this?'  'A Christmas cake', I said proudly.  'No it's not', he replied.

What i miss whilst I'm here in the UK for the moment (hopefully leaving with my K1 visa on Thursday) is the chocolate mint sweets.  They're a bit like large, circular After Eights only firm fondant rather than soft fondant.  York?  I could just do with one of those at the moment.

United KingdomAfter Wedding

Yeah, that's not an option, our wedding is all planned for the 21st Sept...

Does your K1 visa activate electronically on entry or could i enter as a tourist, have my ceremony without registering it, go back for my friends wedding and then activate the K1 on my next return?

That sounds a bit too complicated though!

You can't enter as a tourist as the K1 visa is actually stuck to an inside page of your passport.  Once you have it, you will only be able to enter the US on the K1 visa.

United KingdomAnyone waiting for/recently received interview appointment at London embassy?

Anna, just rang the embassy and I got nowhere. I said all of the above and nothing. I did mention email and the code but he wouldn't give it to me.

Really struggling with it all today!

I know the feeling!  I have been trying for several days to get an SSN - it had been really getting to me - the people in the SSA office just didn't know the rules regarding K1s.  Went to a different office yesterday and succeeded.  Would suggest you try to get an SSN BEFORE you get married (but no earlier than 10 days after you arrive).

Anyway, back to your current issue.

It really depends on the person you get on the 'extortion line'.  I have heard people that have been given the code without having to beg at all.  I've heard people, like you, who were denied the code with copious amounts of begging.

I would have a cup of tea.  Relax.  And then try again.  I would possibly start the conversation by saying that you have new information regarding the timing of the wedding that wasn't available when you sent in your DS-2001.  Therefore, it is imperative that you get this information to the US Embassy direct to enable your interview to be scheduled.

Good luck!

United KingdomAnyone waiting for/recently received interview appointment at London embassy?

I put that my fiance and I wanted to be married in the last week of August because my family work in Education. I probably should have put an exact date in retrospect but I was worried about being chastised during the AOS because we haven't booked anything or made plans in concrete. You might be right though, they might have logged my case as non-urgent. I will wait patiently wink.png.

Mine may have moved quickly because I put an exact date and also included proof of my wedding booking (it doesn't sound as risky as it was - we could have rescheduled the wedding if the date hadn't worked out).

I can't see that it would be a problem at AOS.  You are currently dealing with the US Embassy in London.  For AOS, you will be reintroduced to the wonders of USCIS.  I know of many, many people here who have put a fictitious date of their wedding.

Personally, I would phone the 'extortion line' and say that you've found out that you need to have your wedding before the end of August due to availability of crucial family members who work in education - or maybe say work as teachers?  That may get more sympathy?   Once they give you the code, I would e-mail the Embassy immediately and say the same and ask for a date ASAP.

However, I was exactly where you are now about 8 weeks ago.  It is very difficult not to be impatient.  It has taken us so long to get here and we feel so close to the end.

Phone DOS on 1-202-663-1225

tell them that you see that your file was updated yesterday and ask if they can tell you why it was updated.  They are usually very helpful.

PS - suggest you edit your post and take out your LND number.

I sent my DS-2001 in with all my other forms - I sent them on 15 May from the US and had my medical on 30 May.  Don't worry about the date on your DS-2001.  Plans change.  All you need to say is that you've just found out that an important member of your wedding group can only make a specific date.

United KingdomAnyone waiting for/recently received interview appointment at London embassy?

Just called up the Embassy and they told me things were being processed and that I will have to wait up to 6 weeks to hear from then and then a further two weeks for the actual date. sad.png

Feeling a bit despondent.

Ignore them.  That phone line say '6 weeks' for everything.  They told me '6 weeks' every time I phoned them and they were not correct.  They told me that I was unlikely to make my wedding date of 12 July and yet I had my visa in my hand on 25 June (and flew on 27 June).

You will get better information from phoning DOS.

If you want to try to push the Embassy for a date, phone the extortion line again and beg them fir the all important code to be able to e-mail the Embassy direct.  tell them that you have set a wedding date and need to try to get an early interview.

United Kingdomi have my case number can i now book my medical a little confused

I am  K1 and scheduled my appt today, I asked for and got 7 Aug, only 1 slot left though..

I was told to bring passport, passport photo, (US or UK does not matter). Police cert, I asked original or copy, do not mind as long as it is readable and in date.

I may well take the original to be on the safe side but they said a copy would do.

if you have any in date jabs a record of them also, Mine are all out of date so they said we can them here on the day if you wish, so I will.

just call them and ask. 020 7486 7822.

My file is in transit from NVC to London so I think I will be fine timewise.

Knightsbridge will charge you around 35 pounds per vaccination you need.  You have time to go to your GP and have a nurse there do them for free!

I was told on the phone when booking my appointments this morning to bring 'a copy of the Police Report'. I guess if you want, bring the original and a copy for them to keep if you want to be completely sure. I was told the photos can be either UK or US size, it doesn't matter to them.

They do need to see the original.  I took a copy with me also and gave them that to keep.

United KingdomPaying for courier at embassy!!

I'm just curious as I'm trying to gauge what day I could fly out after my interview on the 1st of August and receiving my passport back.

At the embassy, is there just the one fee for one delivery method, or do they give you a choice and you can pay more to get your passport back a day or two sooner??

Thank you in advance smile.png

It's all next day delivery.  You have a choice between 'before 8am', 'before 10am', before 12pm' and 'before 6pm'.  All at different prices, naturally,  I opted for 'before 10am' and it arrived at 6:30am!  Luckily, I was up and dressed as I was nervous about it arriving as I had a flight booked for 2 days later.

Just be warned.  I have heard it reported that if the courier firm (DX) feel that they can't make your timeslot for the next day, they will not update their website to show it being delivered the next day.  They will hold it back a day so they can make your slot.  Not an issue for me, as I lived in London so they could easily get it to me by 10am.  May be an issue for people further away from London.

I had my interview on 18 June, DX website update on 24 June at 10am and visa in my hand at 6:30am on 25 June.
