K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNOA2 Received Today

Down in the dumps today.

I phoned NVC this morning and they have received our file and I have our case number.

However, our case is undergoing 'additional processing'.  I just can't believe it.  After waiting all this time, we are going to be held up again.

Anyone else been out into AP?  Apparently, I was only told this because I asked when it was likely that our file would be sent to the UK.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNOA2 Received Today
We just received an e-mail:

Application Type: I129F , PETITION FOR FIANCE(E)

Your Case Status: Post Decision Activity

On April 18, 2013, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I129F PETITION FOR FIANCE(E).

I am in the US at the moment and my fiance and I just can't stop smiling. It has taken so long to get here (almost 9 months) but we are so, so happy.

So - July filers are starting to be looked at.

What do we do next? I'm kidding! We've spent most of the last three months working on what we do next!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsALMOST IN TEARS

It is getting close to 8 months now since the NOA1 and I just don't know what to do. I am not in the states, so I can't easily contact with the CSC by phone and I hate being helpless in this situation.
It is also frustrating to see people who, from the same country and service center, have applied after me have received their NOA2 and I still have had no word.
Any suggestions on how to pass the time or to speed up this process???!?!!!!
ALMOST IN TEARS!!!
Thanks in advance

You're just past 7 months rather than close to 8 months.

We are two days away from 8 months. There are a lot of us stuck in the system at the moment. Unfortunately, there is not really a great deal more you can do at the moment but wait. According the USCIS website we are still withing 'normal processing time' as they haven't updated it since 31 December.

You just have to think that your are nearer the end than the beginning of this process. Tears are natural when you are apart from you loved one. You just have to be strong for each other.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsRequest for more evidence :(

Did you provide chat/email/skype logs? Any phone call logs?

Not needed at this stage, unless the beneficiary were from a country that would need the I-129F 'frontloaded', which the UK isn't.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsRequest for more evidence :(

Definatelly would be good to hear what the letter says as boarding passes, hotel room booking and pictures should be ok for uk applicant i think.

But if it will ineed be RFE for proof of meeting in last 2 years then photocopy of your fiance's passport showing entry stamps to UK, statements showing cash withdrawals for him in UK or yours in US will definatelly be on the list.

But the OP said 'plane tickets' not 'boarding passes'.  Plane tickets do not absolutely prove you made the journey - even boarding passes don't really - entry stamps in the passport do.

As others have said, all USCIS need is proof you've met in the last two years - not that you're a couple.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsAnyone who got their NOA2 the last two weeks called NVC yet?

We were approved on April 19th, too. I've been tracking other CSC filers who were approved around that date and it seems many have already seen their file sent to their respective embassies. I hope we have had the same luck.  Unfortunately, NVC's call center has a narrow schedule that's quite difficult for my fiance to call and track down our case during working hours. Maybe we will email if we don't hear anything this week.

Er..they don't have a narrow schedule - they're open for 17 hours a day on weekdays - http://travel.state..../info_3177.html:

Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 12:00 AM (Eastern Time)

So 6am until 11pm Peru time.  We have an NOA2 date on April 19 also and we had a case number by this Monday.

This is what I am trying to figure out too.  My lawyer says do nothing, NVC will send to embassy without our action.

For some people it's just a case of knowing where their file is and that it's been actioned.

For others, like UK beneficiaries, having the case number means that you can book the medical (with the proviso that you don't want you medical results to reach the US Embassy in London before your case does from NVC!).

NOA2 on Thursday 18 April and phoned NVC on Monday 29 April and a case number had been assigned.

I found an interesting thing about how to interpret the case no - I'm sure it's here somewhere also and loads of people know it but it was new to me:

LLLYYYYNNNNNN

LLL - is, obviously, the consulate identifier - e.g. LND is London

YYYY - is, obviously, the year

NNN - is 500 plus the date that NVC received your petition from USCIS in number of days in the year e.g. mine is 613 because it was received on 23 April

NNN - is the incremental number within that day for your consulate e.g. mine is 020, so mine was the 20th case that day for submission to London

PhilippinesPurchase a flight for my wife to come to US
As an update, I called NWA directly and spoke with one of their agents. She booked a flight for my wife and her son with no problems from MNL to RDU. Departure date Dec 17. Total cost was about $1700.

Hm, I will try NWA then. I first called United Airlines and they said it must be booked from the Phils. Will do some more research!

PhilippinesPurchase a flight for my wife to come to US
My wife and her son were approved and she has received her visa already. Now I need to purchase their plane tickets. I am in the US, she and her son are in the Philippines. I called some of the airlines to purchase a ticket, but they all say I can not purchase a ticket for her, she has to do it from within the Philippines. I called AAA travel which I am a member of, and they said the same thing.

Is this right? How am I supposed to purchase her tickets? I guess I could just send her the money and have her purchase it directly. If this is the case, any suggestions of where I can tell my wife to purchase the tickets?

Thank you!

United KingdomHow have your family and friends reacted to your plans ?

Most friends and colleagues were happy for me.  They also didn't understand why the whole process took so long.

However, it does appear that I have lost my best friend.  She is only 9 months older than me (I'm 50) and has settled for her single life with 2 cats.  When she saw what was happening to my life, I think she became quite jealous of it.  That I could meet someone at my time of life that I was willing to relocate 4000 miles to be with.  I have tried to keep up the communication.  I've talked to her about Skyping but she says she can't remember what she did with her webcam.  I've sent her long e-mails and she responds with two lines on her iPhone.  I've ended up coming to conclusion that we were friends only because we lived two floors apart - I was on the 1st floor and her on the 3rd floor.  When I had to life in temporary accommodation when I sold my flat and it was an hour bus ride, I always went to visit her and she wouldn't even meet me half way.

It's a shame because we have known each other for over 20 years.

United KingdomThis really doesn't look good... what do we do?

Yeah, she has re-done the forms and she sent them off with FedEx today via their expensive fastest next day air delivery, which should allow them to get to me by 6pm Tuesday. She also scanned copies of them to email to me. So now we will see if the original ones suddenly get here in time, or if the expedited ones get here first.

If worst comes to worst, I will take the scans to the interview, along with the receipts as proof of postage of the original "wet signatures" and explain the situation and just hope for the best.

In short, yes, we jumped the gun slightly with the I-134 forms and I wouldn't recommend it, but we had still planned accordingly in order for me to receive them in time, alas we were blind-sided by this ridiculous and abnormal delay with the postal system that happened at the "perfect" time. All the other supporting documentation and photocopies of such for the I-134's are in my possession already, it's literally just the I-134's I need.

Have you received the second mailed forms now?

Don't forget to tell your fiancee to get a refund from USPS.  If there was guaranteed date and the missed it, then you can get a refund.  Don't get fobbed off by them saying 'we need to see proof of delivery to show it arrived late'.  They tried to do that with me.  I eventually received an e-mail from USPS telling me that they were unable to give me proof of delivery.

Anna GrantFemaleUnited Kingdom2013-10-22 12:11:00
United KingdomThis really doesn't look good... what do we do?

As Nick-Nich says, they are unlikely to show compassion or leniency as, by mailing in the DS-2001 you have stated that already had in your possession all the documentation you needed for the interview.  If you take a scanned version, you are likely to be approved pending receipt of the I-134 with a wet signature.  Do you have the evidence to back up income already e.g tax transcripts, pay slips?

USPS was not affected by the shutdown but I also had something mailed through them by priority mail that stopped tracking after it got to Chicago O'Hare.  It turned up a day after the guaranteed delivery date and I got a full refund.

I strongly suggest that the documentation is resent using UPS or DHL - I sent something by UPS at 3pm on a Thursday and it arrived at 9am the following Monday.  It cost around $65.  I think there was a faster service also.

United KingdomApprox. time to complete interview (in and out)

Our appointment was at 8:00am.  We started queuing up at 7:00am.  We went to the first window at about 8:20am.  The second window at about 9:30am and we were all finished and out the door by 10am.

However, I wouldn't add the stress of worrying about racing to the airport to the stress of the interview process.  If you have to fly on the 5th, make the flights late afternoon or early evening (assuming flying from Heathrow or Luton).

United KingdomMarriage certificate for interview?? Help!!

I was interviewed in June this year and it was on the list of documents required.  I did get a copy of my marriage certificate by physically going to the British Library in Euston to get the reference numbers and then ordering it online (although it seems stupid because you can't get a decree absolute without first being married).  However, it was never asked for at the interview.

When I queried this with Nich-Nick at the time, she said 'If they really were requiring this, then there would be more posts about it here!'

I have today received another letter confirming my interview on Monday, this time it was accompanied by a check list letter which included the need for a marriage certificate for all marriages even if dissolved.

I have all my documents and have e decree absolute and copy, but never did I know I needed the original marriage certificate!! I don't remember any time upto now in the process needing it - do they really need to see it if I am showing them te decree absolute?

Major panic time.... Please help someone!!

United KingdomPriority Date?!

You mean the date your petition expires?  If you get an interview after the date of expiry, the USC half needs to send the UK half an updated letter of intent, to reaffirm.

Yes and that letter needs to be notarized - the USC's bank should be able to do that for free.

United KingdomQuestion For Those Who Passed London
My then fiance came to both windows and spoke bith times, although no question was asked directly to him, he has a hard time keeping quiet! It made the whole process a lot more comfortable for me, knowing he was by my side. It was also great that he knewwe were approved at exactly the same time as I knew, rather than waking him up with a phone call.

Just make sure you take evidence with you that permission has been given for them to attend and tat they take their US passport with them.

Good luck.

United KingdomNerves (interview)

My fiance's interview is tomorrow and I'm a bundle of crazy nerves.  I just want this to be over with.  I'm so nervous that they won't issue the visa within the "2-3 working day" period.  He's planning his flight and "suppose" to fly out on Dec 5th but I seriously may have a panic attack if he doesn't get the visa in hand by then.  Who else is in the same worry boat?  sad.png

Does he have to fly on Dec 5th?  I would really suggest that you don't book his flight until you know that his visa is with the courier firm.

This Thursday is Thanksgiving, so the embassy will be closed.  It may be short staffed on Friday - in the US, most people take that day off to make it a four day weekend with their family.  That might not be the same at an Embassy.

United KingdomIf I get a job just before interview, can I still sponsor?

Another question is does your fiance have enough money to self-sponsor?  We have never got to the root of how much money is enough money to self-sponsor from the UK.  But we think it is lower than you would think.  What US Immigration is looking at is 'will this immigrant become a public charge on the US'.  If they can support themselves until they get a job, then that may be acceptable.  Does your fiance have a property they have to sell?  People have used the equity in their UK property to self-sponsor.

With the people you have been discussing co-sponsoring, it may be useful to tell them that the I-134 is not legally binding - see 9(b) here -http://www.state.gov...ation/86988.pdf.  Once you go for AOS, the I-864 is legally binding but, hopefully, by the time you submit that, you will have a job with a few months pay stubs.

United Kingdomhow much relationship prove should i take to my interview

I've only heard of two people requiring to provide relationship evidence at interview in London.  I took two of our scrapbooks with most of our photos with us as a security blanket.  I did show the interviewer some photos because it helped when telling her about how he proposed.

United KingdomIs there anyway to speak to someone at the Embassy (LND)

Is it true that if you have applied for a Visa then you become ineligible to travel on an ESTA...?

No, you can travel on an ESTA after you've applied for the K1 visa.  I did several times.

However.  Once that K1 visa is stuck inside your passport, you must enter the US on the next occasion using that visa.  No more ESTA.

Just to reiterate what Nich-Nick said.  Once you enter on the K1 visa, you will not be able to travel out of the US and be able to get back in until you have received Advanced Parole.  That will be around 90 days after you have submitted your AOS paperwork, which can't happen until you have got married and have your marriage certificate.  I managed to get my marriage certificate on the same day we got married by walking the paperwork over to the county clerk's office.  And I managed to expedite my EAD/AP due to a job offer.  Even so, it was roughly 3 months between my POE and receiving my EAD/AP card.

United KingdomCan I visit my partner in UK with just a US passport?

My Fiancee visited me in the UK half a dozen times over 2 years, no problems at all. Just make sure you have a return flight and you know the address of where you will be staying.

Yeah.  My fiance forgot the address of where he was staying (I was in temporary digs at the time as we were close to the finish line).  They still let him in but it was pretty daft of him.  I had drummed into him how much I had to do to ensure I could get into the US each time I flew.  I think he thought 'I'm an American.  Why would they think I would want to live anywhere but America?'

He was upfront and said he was visiting his fiancee and we were going through the K1 visa route.  He had a return ticket.

United KingdomLondon Interview

You don't need any relationship evidence.  However, I took our scrapbooks just as a 'security blanket'.  It did help when she asked me 'So how did he propose?'  I whipped out the relevant scrapbook and showed her the photos!  I could have just as easily told her but I liked showing her the photos (and it was quite a cool proposal).

I called dos today and they told me my forms are logged but no interview date yet,I guess that's something though huh??

If you don't mind me asking what was it that made them not sure about your birth certificate? Was it because it wasn't the original copy .mine isn't my original but it's a official copy which people on here seem to think will be fine

United KingdomLondon 2012- K1s from NOA2 to interview thread

Hi all,

Didnt want to create an unnecessary thread, so quick question:

My sealed packed has a 3 inch tear on the side, I can see it has docs in it. The seal is not broken though and I cant remove anything from it and nor can it fall out.

I emailed the embassy and they said as long as the seal is not broken it should be fine, shall I just ask to get it re-done?

I'm quite worried this will cause me problems at POE.

Don't worry.  Mine had a slight tear in it also - it arrived like that.  You'd think that if it were so important that it remained intact, that they'd put it in something more robust than a large manila envelope, wouldn't you rolleyes.gif

Another question:

My fiancees U.S. ESTA visa is currently expired (as of 2 months ago). Is it alright to renew it through the ESTA site or will this raise red flags since she's in process for the K1 visa? Thanks much again.

I renewed my ESTA as I had a new passport.  It was about 3 months after we had submitted our K1 petition.  I had no problems.
