You could also take a few trips within the US that you would have to fly to get to. You would have itniraries and boarding passes for those trips. I think it would be good as well if it were somewhere that you were meeting up with some family and could include pics with the 2 of you and family together.

The outlets to shop at for super cheap!! I buy a lot of under armor gear when I am in the US for usually 50% less than what I pay in Canada!!!

CanadaCanadian Thanksgiving...Relatives coming over to the USA...
QUOTE (Ant+D+A @ Oct 12 2009, 02:07 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi Colleens and Trailmix,

In answer to your question: I'm actually expecting 2 Canadians to come over for Canadian Thanksgiving. Lol..I invited a few more, but because of health reasons, or whatever else, they declined...oh well, maybe next year for them. So for Canadian Thanksgiving, we'll have 5 people for dinner total. As for the 3lb turkey (my husband suggested I get this size, not me), I got the boneless turkey breast, so no worry about the bones there. And yes, I am aware that the turkey will "shrink", but despite that, I think we'll have enough, as my two guests don't eat too much overall and much of turkey eaters anyways (they prefer veggies instead, strangely enough), my husband doesn't eat too much turkey as he's watching his cholesteral there, I won't eat too much as I'm trying to lose the baby weight that I gained over the months, and the baby doesn't eat solid food at all at this point.

Besides, we have other foods for dinner, so that should fill everyone up too...smile.gif

Good to know about the rule of thumb though....useful for American Thanksgiving!....(lol...these relatives eat more apparently, as my MIL usually gets a 10-15lb turkey for 5-6 people, but we end up with leftovers for months and weeks and days on end anyways, until we are tired of it and don't want to eat turkey anymore until next year...)....

Worse case scenario, I go buy another turkey (or hunt for one, as we have wild turkeys running around the countryside here...just kidding..I don't hunt). But yeah, if we run out, I'm sure I can find another one in time for dinner...24 hour Super Walmart, anyone?

Hope you and your family have a happy thanksgiving dinner too! Turkey and all, gobble gobble! halloween.gif

How many people are you expecting? A rule of thumb is to allow for 1.5lbs of turkey per person, so I 3lb turkey won't get you far....not even sure if you can find a 3lb turkey!! You have to remember that the bones of the turkey take up some of the weight and that it will "shrink" a little while it cooks. Good luck for a great dinner, and Happy Thanksgiving!!

I was wondering the same thing!

I always buy a larger turkey as well. I love the leftoevers and making turkey soup and mixing it with fried rice. Plus you can always freeze it and pull it out for a quick dinner. The breasts are quite good as well, I have had them a few times!!

United KingdomHow to get a mobile phone set up in the USA / Interview
I got my orange handset unlocked a couple of years ago and put a US sim card in whenever i've been in the US. I just called orange and paid £20 I think...might be remembering the cost incorrectly but it was cheaper than buying a new phone of the same standard!

United KingdomWhen do I pay!

You call DOS to find out if your case is logged then you can send your forrms. More on packet 3 here http://www.visajourn...ost__p__5137390 There's a copy of the letter farther down in the thread. You don't need the letter for anything. DOS 202-663-1225 press 1, then 0

Call the embassy number and pay with credit card before you interview. Paying early doesn't speed up the interview. You can pay after you get the interview letter. You just need the email receipt to take with you. London Embassy 0800 027 0051

Thank u! I just called them and paid so at least it's another thing checked off the list even tho it doesn't speed up the process!

United KingdomWhen do I pay!

If you have an LND number you can pay it anytime, but I would make sure it is paid at least five days before your interview. Your receipt is emailed to you which you need to print and sign.

Thank u! How do you actually pay it? I notice that you sent your forms back prior to receiving 'packet 3'...did you just make sure the embassy had your case and then put your LND number on the cover letter? I have my medical booked for next Monday...trying to save time wherever possible!

United KingdomWhen do I pay!
Hi all...sorry if this is a repeated question! I'm pretty sure I will be told how and when to pay but i've read that the VISA fee has to be paid prior to the interview and that you take the receipt but I cannot find anywhere on the London website informing how and when this is done. Just trying to be completely prepared and know everything as London should be receiving our file this week

Thanks for any help!

United Kingdom196 days!!! Still waiting

Hi,

I am on 196 days and heard nothing from VSC.

Once approved for NOA2, can any of you London folks tell me what the processing times are like for interviews and so forth.

Anyone else waiting with NOA1 around the 24th Feb mark in the same boat that have an estimate on when they will be approved at interview and time they think they would move?

Any information shared would be great..........

Thanks

I know it's a horrid wait but it will be so worth it and you will very soon be putting it behind you...are you completely prepared for the next step? Have you got the affidavit and all supporting documents and evidence ready to mail to the beneficiary in the UK? All the DS forms completed ready to mail?

Altho I have not received packet 3 from the embassy yet I was informed on the phone today that they have sent it and i'm able to send all my forms in so I did that today...exactly 3 weeks after the NOA2 date of approval. After your NOA2 the NVC will receive your petition you can get your LND case number from them and then call to schedule your medical which will save you some time. I have that arranged for Monday. You need to have your medical before the embassy will schedule an interview so being quick of the mark on that will save you some time.

Hang in there!

It's time consuming yes but you can't always rely on people to give you the answers...i got a wrong answer from someone once!

United KingdomTime to receive passport back from embassy

In case anyone is looking for delivery timing, my visa and passport arrived back today, three days after the interview. And that's despite the embassy website claiming that non-immigrant working visas (which includes L1) take longer than other non-immigrant visas.

Ooo that's encouraging :) Thanks!

I think that could happen depending that it all goes well  . When did you hear that you had an interview date assigned? We have pretty similar timelines, especially from NOA2 onwards. Depending if my medical results get logged some point this week, do you think that I could get an interview date assigned this week?

My interview was assigned yesterday...so exactly 2 weeks after my medical which was also the same day as all my forms were signed for at the embassy.

Hi all...I have my interview on November 1st and just wondering what sort of time the embassy were taking these days to return passports. I know in the past most have received it in 2-3 days and just wondering if this was the case at the moment!

Wondering if it's too ambitious to have an interview on a Thursday and expect the passport to be in my hand the next Wednesday?!!

United KingdomPASSPORT RENEWAL

That statement is not an issue to you in that your K1 visa becomes invalid the day you use it to enter the US. You only get to use a K1 for one time. However, you will want your passport for photo ID until you get something else like a greencard or state drivers license. Adjustment of Status will have a biometric appointment and maybe an interview so you'll want your passport for those. Many people don't renew for a married name change until it is about to expire. They travel with their marriage certificate to show the name change or they book tickets in the passport name.

Thanks Nich-Nick! Yeah i'll just wait

United KingdomPASSPORT RENEWAL
Hi all. I will hopefully be getting my K-1 approval in a few weeks and getting married to my American love in November and just starting to try and get my head around all that's to be done after!!!

From reading through this thread am I correct in thinking that I have to wait until I get my AOS/GC before changing the name on my passport. I did read something on the ukinus website that said:

When you apply to amend your passport, we cancel your current passport and issue you with a new one. This means that any visas in your current passport may become invalid. You should check with the local Embassy/visa issuing authority of the country concerned about whether you can use an unexpired visa in a cancelled passport. If not, you will have to reapply for the visa for your new passport.

Thanks for any advice :)

United KingdomLondon 2012- K1s from NOA2 to interview thread
Hey...i'm hoping someone can give me a bit of advice here!!! There is a chance my fiance will have an opportunity to change jobs in October...my interview is November 1st! Obviously our affidavit is based on his current employment. There's no worries about finance. He's currently about 6x the threshold and would be getting an increase but he would obviously not have pay stubs from his current job if he changes! Should we avoid this happening...he could stay put and give a start date into November.

Any advice or thoughts would be welcome  Thanks!

Almost! :) His appt is on Nov. 1st and I feel confident he'll be approved. I've made a huge packet of proofs to send; pages of phone call logs and text messages, photos, flight itineraries for our 3 trips along with copies of passport stamps. God willing, he will be approved!

CaribbeanQuestions about procedures at Kingston, Jamaica embassy

Thanks so much! The embassy actually replied to my email so this is a huge relief to have definitive answers from two parties; when does THAT happen? ;)

As for the fiance/husband issue, we are of course unmarried legally as per regulations but we are married Islamically which allowed us to be together alone when I would come to visit him in Jamaica. :) Sometimes I get tripped up but legally no, we are not married.

Thanks so much, we have his medical scheduled; it was very tight, getting an appointment more than 10 days before the interview but after we were notified of the interview date. Because of so much internal processing we were afraid to get the medical too soon since it can expire. :) But thankfully it all worked out and we are eagerly awaiting a positive outcome from his interview, God willing!

CaribbeanQuestions about procedures at Kingston, Jamaica embassy

Salaam and peace ya'll! My fiance was FINALLY approved in July (after our second application for an I-129F, long story) and the NVC sent his packet to the embassy in Aug. We never heard from them and after a few emails were finally given an inteview date. Yes!

Now the questions begin! It is so frustrating that you get different information from different government sources. According to the State Dept, we must fill out a DS260. The paper from the Kingston Embassy said specifically a DS230. ? Also on the paper they emailed me, in bold, it said bring the money for your visa to the embassy. My fiance said his paper that they mailed ot him said pay at the bank first and bring a receipt.

We don't have an invoice with a total amount on it, so how do we know exactly how much to pay? It is for my husband and his son. Also what about the forms? Is it the DS260 and if so, do I need to fill out the DS156K and DS157? I guess we'll just end up doing all the forms but I am really worried about doing the wrong thing and making us wait even longer.

Please, anyone who has recently been through Kingston, can you give us any insight? I've emailed them again but you know how that goes!

you should check back today...its still early...maybe they will input it in their system later today

Extreme, do you know when they update their system at DHL? My fiance called on Friday (at my urging lol) and they called him back today to say it still wasn't ready. However, today is 3rd business day for fiance and 2nd for his son. I know I'm being picky but like everyone else, we want to be together and we want to buy the ticket already!

Btw, did your fiance pick up his visa yet? :)

Waivers (I-601 and I-212) and Administrative Processes (221g)Second AP - After 8 months of Initial AP - Please help!

I'm sorry to hear this but with the volatile political situation in Egypt at the moment, it's just not a surprise, unfortunately. I really feel for you; I know this all seems so random and unfair. I was a bit surprised my husband wasn't put into AP; we are both Muslim but converts and he is from Jamaica which of course is a Christian-majority country. I will keep you guys in my prayers; it's very hard when you are just wanting to start your lives together and there are so many stumbling blocks.

ChinaWhat are the rules for getting additional required vaccinations?

I've never heard of anyone needing more shots than what was required for the visa. Since it's already been issued I can't see how that would be a problem. The officer at her appointment would have advised her. But I agree you should get her to email you a copy of that letter; it's always best to have 2 eyes checking things out. :)

ChinaWhat are the rules for getting additional required vaccinations?

Hi there, and congrats on the approval! If she gets another in a series, have her yellow booklet marked (it's an immunization passport, right?) if there is space. If not,  get a note from the doctor. Some vaccines must be done on schedule and some you can be late on. If she is scheduled for a vaccine and she is still in China, she should get it. Otherwise, she can wait. :)

Africa: Sub-Saharanspousal visa travel

If you can afford to go to Nigeria and wait while you do the paperwork, I surely would. I think showing that level of commitment would be impressive to the COs. But it's very sad that an American citizen would have to leave their home, job, and family just to try and prove to someone they were really married. I understand the reasoning behind needing proof but it makes such a hardship on sincere couples!

Africa: Sub-SaharanK 1 visa with a child and no court orders on single parenthood.

My fiance was not required to prove he was permitted to remove his son from Jamaica but I am sure each country might have different rules. I hope you can get an answer; I was surprised he was not required. In your case, you would think without a father listed on the birth certificate you would be exempted. God willing you do not have any problems.

My fiance, also, was denied a tourist visa to come and visit me. No problems. :)

So you are filling out the DS-260 for your wife, correct? So you are answering the questions as if you were your wife? Then you would say no to both. On #3 you would say Yes because by the time she goes to the interview she will have her medical finished with her vaccinations. :)

Best of luck and hope that helped!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionHad K1 interview today, on hold

I am a bit disappointed; my fiance had his interview today and we had everything together. However, now at the last minute, they are saying my divorce decree from a previous marriage isn't valid. It is from India from 2009 and I have no way of getting in touch with my ex-husband. Previously when I applied thru USCIS they saw it and accepted it. I just don't know what else to do. :(

When we married in India it was the same way, through a Qari or religious judge. The divorce was granted with me in absentia the same way. I am frustrated and confused. I've contacted the embassy via email to see what can be done.

Good news is they didn't deny it but bad news... I have no idea how to proceed! :( Guess I'll be seeing a lawyer next week.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionINTERVIEW IS NOVEMBER 12, AND NOT ALL PAPERWORK HELP PLEASE!

You have to call the NVC and get your NVC Case number and your invoice number. Then fill the DS-260 out online and print the confirmation page. My fiance's internet is spott at times so I filled the DS-260 out for him, verifying all the info of course! and then emailed him a copy of the confirmation page to print. This should be done ASAP. Now some embassies still want the DS-160 (the older form) and some have went ahead and switched to the online DS-260. It's frustrating! We ended up doing both; at first embassy told us the old way then said no new way. I did both and glad I did because they actually asked for some of the old forms!

It's crazy and I wish they could all get on the same page. If you can't get through today (I don't remember if they are open on Sundays or not) do it first thing in the morning and be sure you get both NVC case number and invoice number. Best of luck!
