CanadaPOE Detroit

I believe the OP is activating an IR/CR visa, and as such, I don't think they require an I-94, nor AOS.

You should ensure you get your I-551 stamp, though, as it is your temporary GC. :)

Good luck! And yay for pre-clearance!

I thought I had seen K1 on their profile...my eyes playing tricks on me!!! Thank you for clarifying :)

CanadaPOE Detroit
I just did my POE 3 weeks ago in Edmonton. Get to the airport and checked in about 2 to 2 and a half early. There is no use getting there any earlier than that as they won't let you into the customs area any earlier than that. Once you check in, you will go into a waiting area where you will fill in your standard customs form. Then they will call people by flight to enter into the customs area. You will line up and wait to see a customs agent. When you get to the customs agent tell them that you are activating your visa and give them your envelope. They will take your fingerprints and a photo, ask a couple of questions, and then take you into secondary. You will go into a waiting area, and they will call you up to fill in your I-94 that gets attached into your passport (make sure you have the I-94 stapled into you passport before you leave, as there have been cases where the agent has forgotten!!) They will call you up to the desk and ask a few questions and send you on your marry way!! Then you take your luggage and self to security, and you will be on your way. Once you get to detroit, you just go and pick up you luggage...there is nothing to do with customs at that end.

Good Luck!

CanadaMontreal - Time to receive Visa after interview

Hi everybody!
Do some of you had their Interview in Montreal?
My Interview is gonna be the 19 of mai and I was wondering a long it take after the interview to receive my visa by the mail. 4 days? 1 week? 2 weeks?

I thing they tell us right of way if we have our visa at the interview, nah? And then, they send the visa by the mail?

Thank you! :hehe:

They will tell you if you are approved at your interview and you will get a little letter outlining what happens next. Make sure you bring your expresspost envelope (the large 12"x15") envelope, that has been addressed and make sure you copy your tracking number down!!! Some people get it within a few days sometimes it takes a week, and ocassionally more. They should tell you at the interview when they plan on mailing it out, it doesn't happen that very day as they have to produce the visa and attach it into your passport. Then it goes to the consulate mailroom to be sent out. So it can take a couple of days for it to actually get out of the consulate. I would plan for at least a week.

CanadaAmerican Girlfriend is Pregnant
If you want to be with your GF and Baby ASAP I would do the wedding and apply for the visa ASAP. I think it is taking 8-12 months to process the Visa (that is assuming you file all the paperwork in a timely and complete fashion). You may even consider having just a legal (courthouse) wedding on your next trip to start the process, then plan a more formal wedding at a later date. Many people here have done that.

Good Luck with whatever you choose!!

CanadaNo birth certificate for CR1 interview

Well, I know for a fact that Alberta Registrys take their time. It took them a month to send me mine. I hope yours shows up soon. Good luck!!

I had mine from the Alberta registry within a week, and that was without requesting any sort of express service.

CanadaPutting my ducks in a row!
I only had letter of intent from the USC...didn't need one for myself. Also if you are planning on bringing cards as evidence, if any are the ones that play the little music clip...leave those behind. Since they have electronics in them, you will have to leave them at security and pick them up later!!! I had a couple in my folder and I had to check them at security!

CanadaXpresspost Prepaid Envelope
I am pretty sure that there have been people who have used this, as long as it is the correct size. Just note that because it is next day delivery you may not get your package the next day as it takes montreal a few days to print and affix the visa in the passport, then it is sent to the mailroom to be sent to Canada post. Once it gets to Canada Post it *should* be next day delivery, but that doesn't always happen!!

CanadaTitre Test
I did the titre tests while still covered under OHIP, it was free, so why not get it done and have the documentation. It didn't take all that long to get the results. I just had my doctor fax them over to the Dr's office where I was getting my medical. I also have a copy with my medical file and I am sure it will be helpful for my family practitioner to ensure that I get required boosters when needed!!

CanadaDS-3025
I never got a copy of the vaccination worksheet, I only got a copy of my titre test results that I submitted. After several e-mails to Dr. Seidens office I got confirmation that the vaccination report was included in the package.

If I was able to find a civil surgeon in the area (or within an hour or so drive of here) that would transcribe the vaccinations without having to do the full medical again, I would definitley do it to prevent any chance of RFE, but so far I haven't been able to find one. And with money getting a little tight and a baby on the way...$300 extra for something that is really not required is pretty tough to swallow!!

Thanks everyone for your responses!!

CanadaDS-3025
I did not have my original vaccination records, so I had all my titre tests done and submitted those for my medical at Dr. Seidens. I got a copy of those ( which I already had from my family doc who ordered the tests for me). So maybe because of that I didn't get the worksheet? I am just trying to find anyway of not having to do a medical again, or travel several hours to a civil surgeon who will just transcribe the vaccinations. I so can't wait for all this to be done!!!!
ColleensFemaleCanada2010-05-26 00:17:00
CanadaDS-3025
I almost have my AOS package ready to send in, and the only thing I need to do is with my vaccinations. I never recieved a vaccination worksheet that others have mentioned recieving, and from what I have been reading that you can submit this (I think it is the DS-3025) with your AOS instead of the I-693. Does anyone know if the DS-3025 is part of the "do not open package" that we have to submit at the interview. I have sent several e-mails to Dr. Seidens office asking this specific question and have recieved every answer but!!! I have called around to all the civil surgeons in my area and none of them will transcribe my vaccinations without doing a full medical. I really don't want to have to pay another $300 or so dollars for nothing!!

Thanks :)

CanadaHealth Insurance
I have been having similar issues relating to another pre-existing condition, and what I have found out is that as long as you had previous insurance that covered that pre-existing insurance they can not deny you coverage. The only problem with this is that sometimes the rates can be pretty outstanding. (For individual insurance with a maternity rider I was quoted at $2450 per MONTH!) Since it looks like you will be able to get coverage with your husbands plan in the fairly near future there are short term plans that you can look into that can be more affordable. I would suggest finding an insurance broker in the area you are moving to and starting to research plans and rates now.

CanadaTransfering Car to the US

Thanks Flames_9RN, trailmix and Colleens!

Yeah, I'm aware of yearly inspection... But I think that with you guys' info I might actually try to do the change... Better to have an old car than none!

Do you guys think it will be a problem if the car has not been licensed since November 2009? My dad basically told the SAAQ that he was taking it off the road since I came back without it...

I would call the CBP that you will be taking it to and ask if it needs to be currently registered. Tell them that you did not re-register it in Canada since you were unsure of whether you were going to keep driving it. If you find out before hand, you still have time to have the registration done before heading back to the US.

CanadaTransfering Car to the US
It doesn't matter if you bought it used. You have to contact the car manufacturer for the compliance letter. My car was in the US already when I did my POE. I just went to the local CBP office and they did the import for me in about 15 mins.

CanadaAOS question portal!
When it asked where I entered I wasn't sure...I asked in the AOS thread and never got a response :( I thought that it was where I did my POE, but hubby insisted that I had to put where I first landed in the US...I hope that won't be an issue I did check the box that I was inspected. He sometimes gets upset when I ask for advice on here, since he himself has been through the immigration process, but he seems to forget that is process was completely different than mine. There are copies of my I-94 in my packet (as required) and the stamps show where I POE'd so hopefully it won't be an issue.

I used to work at a wal-mart in Canada, and eventhough it was illegal to do so, they would accept returns on underwear. All the customer had to do was make a big enough scene.....they don't want anyone seeing an unhappy customer. The majority of the time it was just written off, but there were occasions that it made it back onto the floor.

I just had my first Dr's appt today and had an ultrasound and they date me at 8 weeks 3 days. It was pretty exciting to see the baby and the heart beat!! I have found that I have been feeling a bit better this week, so I have my fingers crossed that the same happens for you too!!

I'd love my life right now if my morning sickness were restricted to the morning. It's all day sickness. I'm not a happy camper. :(

I have the exact same thing....I wake up feeling sick and it never gets better. I found somedays it was just easier to spend as much time as possible in bed. I don't feel the queasiness when I am sleeping!! I find that I am getting dehyrdrated because I can't bear to drink as much as I need to. How far along are you Bern?? I am at about 9 weeks.

Nope - that's about as low as you get. Your husband is going to have to ask them point blank, or maybe another family member can act as a go between?

PS....if it turns out you have to go to an AOS interview....you may want to pull the rings out and wear them that day :)

He has asked them, and although he denys it....they were the only ones that were here that day and we have torn the house up several times looking for them. He has stolen stuff from us before and denied it, but admited it later, so I am certain that they have already been pawned somewhere.

We will have to go shopping for new ones for the formal wedding so we will have them for an AOS interview!

On Thursday evening after our wedding my husband asked his brother to come over to help move some of our newly arrived goods into storage. His brother came over with a friend to help out. But later in the evening I noticed that my rings were not where I thought I had put them. I told hubby about it because I thought maybe he had moved them. We were looking around, and then he realized that his ring was missing as well (we decided not to wear our rings until our formal wedding in july so he had taken his off an put it back in the box). Both the brother and the friend have a history of stealing things, but to steal someones wedding rings on their wedding day....does it get any lower than that?????

On wed I got another offer on my house, and since I am selling it privately we were supposed to meet up tonight to sign the paperwork. So I cancelled some of the viewings that I had scheduled as to not waste peoples time. Now the person who gave the offer, decided she didn't want to pay that much and has now e-mailed me offering less...even though we had agreed on a price 2 days ago. #######!!!! I am so frustrated with this. So now I am back to calling everyone back, and rescheduling viewings while I am trying to get packed up. I have my moving trailer coming next week and I plan to head down to the US to be with my fiance for the holidays.....so it is going to be a stressful weekend crying.gif

My husband and I were just discussing this the other day. I don't mind him doing the laundry, but I find I have so many finicky items myself (like delicate sweaters that go in a bag, or something I was remembering had a grease spot from lunch on Weds) that it's just easier if I do it.

His laundry is always easier...sorts, washes and can dry virtually everything he owns. I hang most of mine to dry on a rack and then fluff in the drier when done.

I will also do it on Sat morning as early as possible to get it out of the way (ooooh let's see what time it is now...5:52am)

Being up that early on a Sat to do laundry is just wrong in soooo many ways!!!! laughing.gif

The Ah Caramels were awesome just a bit frozen, or cold from the fridge. I personally didn't like getting the caramel all over my fingers, so the fridge thing worked well.

Here in Lancaster County we have Whoopie pies. Very similar to Joe Louis but without the chocolate coating and more filling, and homemade by the Amish (and my MIL). They're awesome.

Do you guys remember the cookies that had marshmallow and jelly on top of the cookie and coated in chocolate? They weren't my favorite, but my grandma always kept them on hand for when we would go visit.

I think they were called Viva Puffs?

Just make sure that when you fill out the application form you check the "legal alien allowed to work" box for section 5. I know right now you are not able to work, but you will down the road. If you don't check this box you will most likely have an issue getting a card.

Hey slider....eventhough you technically are not authorized to you, you need to check off the authorized to work box. You will still have the DHS authorization on the card when you get it. I know that is seems backwards, but by checking the NOT authorized box.....that may be your issue.

CanadaPOE Edmonton

Most airports POE's (and check in at desk)dont open up before 0500,thus maybe thats why you were not let in before that.

In Edmonton you have to wait in a waiting area until your flight number is called into customs, and they don't call your flight number in more than 2hrs prior. I called CBP at the airport when I was POEing to ask. I know that it can take longer to process the visa and wanted to make sure I left enough time fo that (and I also didn't want to get to the airport too early and find out customs was not open!!!). And I was told not to be there any earlier than 2hrs because they will not let you into customs before that. I guess each airport has different policies, because I have flown out of Ottawa before and there was nothing like that.
