Parents force school closure after student goes missing

SCORES of angry parents and residents yesterday blocked access to the Duhaney Park Primary School in St Andrew, forcing classes to be suspended for the day following reports that a 10-year-old girl had gone missing from the institution.
Police confirmed that an Ananda Alert has been issued for Annaleise Davis of Bolivar Avenue in the nearby New Haven community. The police said the child failed to return home from school Tuesday afternoon.


Alton Davis, Annaleise's father, said he had taken his only child to school and watched her as she entered the institution.
When contacted, school principal Dr Vincent Campbell said the school could only account for the child being at the institution in the early morning hours. He said there was no account of the child entering her regular classes which are held on the evening shift.
Students at the school confirmed seeing young Annaleise during the early morning school hours Tuesday, but they said they didn't see her at lunchtime.
"The school is at this time working with the police to get to the bottom of this mysterious situation. This is the first in the school's history," said Dr Campbell. Meanwhile, the child's grandmother, 56-year-old Lorraine Ferguson had to be consoled by family members when she broke down weeping at the school.
"Lord Jesus ah can't believe it," wailed the woman.
And as Ferguson cried, scores of angry parents protested, and at one point chained the main gate of the school while others rushed inside to collect their children.
"God please nuh make nothing happen to her, please bring her back home safe," a woman who identified herself as the missing child's aunt cried.
The Duhaney Park Police said a massive investigation had been launched into the matter.
"The police are at this time carrying out investigations to find clues into this case which has left several persons in shock," said Deputy Superintendent Clyde Talbert.
