Thanks everyone....Everyone who inputted made some really valued points...Dada your sister wife is exactly how my brother's wife is...she is also Jamaican and she first came across as stand offish (i think thats the word you used)...she still does but she has been married to my brother for 8 yrs and we have known her for 10yrs so we just know that is her personality...but she talks with my mom and stuff and they have a good relationship...but husband is like what Yaads describe with her hubby in the beginning...he is not use to our stories and our joking around and stuff...so he did say he feel out of place...

I asked him why he made that comment about moving far away from my mom and he said because he felt a way becasue my son told us that he went back to my mom and told her that we argue and stuff...so he felt embarrassed... blush.gif ...

So i guess i will just leave it alone and let him come around...but he will never tell me to "disown" my family...he just doesn't feel like being around them himself...

My brother’s wife not sisters....LOL Yes like when we come over she is usually in her room or she comes out and speaks and then away she goes. Were are the type of family where we eat together and we like to play games together and everything and she never wanted to play or basically do anything with us. Me and my bro or close so I know when we plan family trips he always has to haggle with her about going. See we try to do something as a family at least once a year so I knew she hated them trips and always tried to get him not to go. On holidays we like to get together. They were living in New Jersey. He recently bought a house back here in Pittsburgh but for some strange reason they are selling it and moving back to New Jersey. Ummm.

I think we don’t go over that much but we picked up on it really quick, she acted like she didn’t want to be bothered.

Umph 11 years now and they are still going strong. That I know of actually her school reunion is next year in Kingston and my bro has invited because he knows I want to see Kingston but I refuse to go without a true Jamaican. Sorry I'll go around Mobay, Negril and Ocho in a minute by miself but I’m not stepping foot in Kingston without a Jamaican on my arm. I asked my bro have you asked your wife first if she minds and he was like oh yeah I should do that first huh?? LOL

Any response will be highly appreciated...Thanxs luv.gif

well he'd have to give me a better reason than having a gut feeling. he'd have to be specific about why he thinks they don't like him
otherwise i'd have to explain to him that i can't ostracize myself from my family because he has a "feeling"

i heard a VERY scary statistic the other day
i don't remember the exact figure but is like 3/4 of the women who have breast cancer don;t have any history of it in their family
i was shocked because i always thought not having a history of cancer in your family is a plus

One of my best friends was diagnosed with breast cancer when we were 32 - No family history, she was a vegetarian, athletic,...... everything that is supposedly "right" - She underwent radical treatment, into remission for a year, and then was diagnosed with leukemia - which has been up and down ever since. About 2 years ago I didn't think she would make the week - she weighed 70 lbs (she's 5'10") and was in a wheelchair - But she fought back, and is still fighting -

see this is exactly what i'm talking about
this is the scary thing
she was doing every thing right
i think cancer is more serious than aids

Ladies;

I have a question, do you think relationship/adjusment is easier if you and your husband/fiance/wife/fiancee were from the same country/culture -- had a dicussion the other night with some friends from a yahoo group -- it got so heated, that I didn't even finish my food.

Yes i do to the tenth power!!!! the both of you can relate to certain things, i was talking to this lady I met in the airport going to JA she was 40 and going to see a 17yr old boy who she wants to have sex with but don't (clears throat) and sends him money every week for school(this been going on for 2yrs) anyways back to question i told her i was going to JA to see my man and we was talking about the culture difference and she was like at least ur blk im a white women going to see a Jamaican boy I'm like yeah but there still is a difference...

I know there are certain things that i will relate to that J won't have a clue about and vice versa I'm not going to front i am confident and know that j would have tried to get with me if I was American or Jamaican! but sometimes I think like humm I don't know about soccer or about making festival amongst other ish I wonder he would prefer someone that do??? actually I said this to him and he got pissed off! But it is what it is like when I told him lets go to KFC on a Sunday he look at me like I was a damn alien…

Girl, you can't tell a Jamaican to eat takeout on a SUNDAY...dwl, dat a big dinnah day/ rice-n-peas and whatevah meat you want, most likely oxtail

sad, but common about the 40 year old woman, do I fell sorry for her HELLS NO...I have cousins that work at resorts and the offers that were made to them for daggering -- some women so bold as to leave their hotel key wrapped in a $20/bill now tell me if that's not prostution...

A lie yuh a tell!!
suppose yuh see KFC pon sunday?
not to mention island grill?

The visa was ready for pick up the following Wednesday & we came in to Miami last night & the immigration process was pretty smooth. We only waited maybe 20-30 minutes & they were then calling us up & giving us the rundown of having to get married within 90 days. Now, a wedding to plan. We got in late last night & he's in awe of his surroundings....said yesterday was too much excitement for one day. Well, I'll fill you all in on Monday & I'm happy to be home & so is he. Is ur current relationship the 1st one after u separated from ur ex? why are they "concerned". Don't get me wrong. I would be a maniac too if my children all of a sudden have another woman in their lives to confuse the heck out of them in regards to mommy and daddy relationship.. BUT do u guys see where I'm going with this?

Wow ladies some of you have gone thru and are going thru some hell with these EXs. I guess I should not complain. My ex is too lenient with Jah and just lets her do anything she wants, but otherwise we get along great. We live next door to each other and I get along well with his live-in girlfriend. So far there has not been any glaring problems between my hubby and my ex. They borrow each other's mechanic tools, etc. and take turns mowing the lawns. I pray to God it remains this calm because the alternative will not be an option for me--living next door and all.

i met my ex when i was 15... he was very strong minded and i liked that.. when ur young its cool to have somebody take charge, it wasn't controlling to me then, it was fun and exciting and i belonged to him and i loved it.. when we got preggers at 18, my mom tried to talk to us about what a bad decision we had made in keeping the baby, and he stormed out of the house, said he didnt have to listen to her. when she refused to allow me to see him, he would come to my house and act a fool, i told myself that was "becuz he loved me so much" and "he just wanted to be w/ me".. when i would break up w/ him, he would throw things and make a scene, but he was "just an emotional person"

u see, i didn't know any better and i made excuses for him cuz i loved him.. and i felt ppl just didn't understand him.. i still am doing it..

on the outside we were doing better and overall happier than anybody else i had seen growing up.. we were married, both working, and taking care of our business, what else could a woman ask for??? he never hit me or cheated on me and was the BEST dad .. so i should just suck it up..

so i know it was my fault, all the signs of a temper and immaturity were there.. its hard to know what things should be deal breakers and what should not when ur in the middle

yunno this reminds me of a convo a freind and i were having the other day
we thought when we were in our teens that it was cool to date older men
because young guys were so immature and dating an older guy was a sign that we were more mature
but looking back most of those men were pedophiles really
preying on young vulnerable women who will put up with the foolishness that older women will not tolerate

as someone else said
you ladies have been very patient
God nuh sleep! I see that everytime bar none
the men (and women) who give problems always end up worse off
that's why everytime i see an old man complaining about his kids abandoning him i stop to wonder what was going on his life before i feel pity for him

Open Arms for Jamaica's Future is a non-profit organization that a bunch of us ladies on here started to help our children in Jamaica to stay in school. We had an epiphany and realzied no matter how long this journey is there are ppl way less fortunate than us.

We have selected a school..St.Martin primart in, St.Mary..and we will help keep this child in school for the school year and if allowed be mentor.

wow, that is great
do u guys get any help from/partner with any big companies?
i've always had an interest in being in something that helps mentor kids, esp boys because laaaawd we need some real men

Legz; no baddah get mad, but since u blood a bubble areadi

My EX told me that he wanted to meet my husband I said fine and he was a no show; then he see him and tells everyone in church that I have a convict living with his son that smokes weed...wow, you can know that much about a person just by looking at them. He asked my son all sorts of questions and my son would come back and tell us. The worse was when we got back from Jamaica last year and my son told us that daddy hates me and hates your boyfriend; then my EX calls the police and tells them that my husband is beating my son, then the schools calls because my EX called them, then CPS got involved...when I tell you my husband deserves an award for sticking by and and I truly appreciate him, I really mean it, because he was about to go back to Jamaica.

Thank God for putting such an angel in your life. Lawny, this says a lot of good about you husband. God bless ya'll.

I just don't understand why it's so hard to just say...Okay...they are happy and my son is okay...so let them be. I don't wish anything bad on your EX...but I want him to learn that what he did was not cool. I hope he has grown up since then.

rofl.gif ...dat naw go 'appen...he told me in front of about 60 people that he will hate me for the rest of his life and that I'm the worse woman that he's ever been with and I used him for his (please don't laugh) cause he was dead serious...I used him for his SPERM

this is a general question to tre and the rest of the ladies:
was he anything like this before you had kids with him?
looking back did you see any signs that he was gonna be such a jerk?

Passing gets u into one of the top 3 schools of ur choice. If u do not pass u will be placed a school in ur Zone

But doesn't guarantee a spot - Jr did well on his GSATs but the 1st 2 schools of his choice told him they were already full.

yes of course...thats why there r about 3 choices..and ur score matters too

the problem is that there are not enough "prestigious" high schools
so the govt tries to convince ppl that the newer schools are just as good
they are really trying to change the education system but its waaaay to stratified and this is an entrenched thing
it will take GENERATIONS before it will change
