K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresIs an age a factor when applying?
It hadn't even occured to me to worry about an age difference. I'm 30, he's 42. I REFUSE to worry about it, there are lots bigger age differences out there that are getting approved.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresOut of idle curiousity...
Folks, it was really more a random thought than an idea for I-129F forms. Just struck as an idea. My brain just tends to work like that and I wondered if anyone else had wondered. See, no one seems to agree on what 'concrete' proof is, and I'm not looking to stir things up here, and my thinking was on arrival in the UK I had to supply the address I would be staying at. They require the same upon entry to the US I've been told. I was half wondering actually if they don't poke through the records themselves.

Anyway all of this is basically Thingee going hmmmmmmm.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresOut of idle curiousity...
I wasn't questioning what to supply, was more pondering in text. I mean, it would be going pretty far to get on a plane, fly to whatever country is being discussed, fill in the required documentation as to where you'll be spending your stay, then stay somewhere else to not meet the person in question.

Again, as this has been knocked around quite a bit the past few days, it's more my over active brain going into 'what if's'. IE, thank goodness we'll be going through this soon because eventually with technology advancing the way it is NOTHING could be defined as solid proof...meaning everything can be doctored.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresOut of idle curiousity...
Occured to me to ponder this what with all the talking lately about proving you had actually seen this person. If you enter the persons address on that little form as the place you'd be staying wouldn't that indicate you had seen them? Hmmm. Probably inaccesible information after it's been filed, but an interesting idea anyway.

Twas my 31st birthday yesterday, and my birthday wish for for all you folks that have been lingering in NOA2 limbo for ages to get approved. Course I made the wish for selfish reasons...that whole get you guys out of the way reasoning..but it had nice results for others too right? :P

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNewbie question, and I did try researching before asking.
Yes, it is 6 months if no children are involved, but there are nearly 4 year old twins in the mix...I wasn't aware of the 30 day doohickie(my own legalese term) but I don't see that being an issue as we're planning on applying for K-1.

Yes, that hurdle is finally finally over. Seperated over 18 months ago and got my final decree of divorce Monday. (Combination of a slow court system, slow attorneys and an uber slow ex-husband.)

Thanks bunches, I was having a smallish fit over it. Virginia requires a year seperation before you can even file for divorce. (I'm not even going to get going on that.)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNewbie question, and I did try researching before asking.
All right, I'm in the States, love is in the UK, not an unusual tale thus far, especially not around here! I've been doing all sorts of reading trying to get our ducks in a row before we actually start the filing process. Sadly, I've hit a stumbling block in my understanding of things. I'm recently divorced, and while some posts indicate this won't be a trouble at all as I am indeed divorced and legal to marry again, others seem to imply that we won't be stand a chance of approval for at least 2 years? I'm a natural born USC as is the ex husband. Sorry if I'm being a dolt. Thanks in advance!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDouble checking paperwork.
Noooo, not going to stay in a hotel. I just bought a house and will be entertaining family as well as him as well as the five short people that live with me. I had thought to possibly apply while he's still physically here..then I'll have the I-94 number from his visit as well as proof we were on the same continent.(ha ha)

Thanks for all the replies.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDouble checking paperwork.
I have returned! I couldn't bear watching everyone file while I was still waiting..for those of you who remember, didn't have any pictures of honey and I together..decided to wait until his next visit to take some(he arrives in 10 days!) I have, or have ordered the following:
-Marriage certificate(to prove legality of name change)
-Divorce decree
-All forms required(not going to bother listing them)
-ticket stubs from air travel
-(will have) photos together
-passport copied(as opposed to BC)
-letters of intent(to be done upon his arrival)
-passport style photos(also to be done upon his arrival)

I've got it all I assume?

I'm another one that hates the limbo sensation. If I just knew WHEN things would start moving I'd feel much much better. Yes, we only filed a few weeks ago, but have been together( yet apart for years...I'm incredibly impatient to be done with all the waiting.

Might want to bear in mind all your touches came right before the holidays as well. From what I've seen(and I watch the timelines through Vermont rather closely) there have been very few touches since that 3rd week in December, at least for VJers...I'm not saying no touches at all, but fewer. That being said, if in doubt, call! (Were it me, I would have called, but I'm developing immigration OCD)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow deal with parents who talk guilt?
She needs to stand up to them NOW. You're having issues with their treatment of her already, and you aren't witnessing it first hand. My family has a bully as well(that's what your future father-in-law is), and my SO was shocked at his behavior on his last visit. It will be harder when you're actually physically there watching it happen, and believe you me, it will cause major tension between the 2 of you. Better for her to stand up now than wait for your arrival..if she waits it'll be 'Your just doing this because of HIM.' Voila, you are the bad guy, a crown you may be willing to wear for her benefit, but which could cause issues in the long run.

Noooo. You can get a tourist visa if you aren't planning on staying indefinitely THAT visit. As was previously stated he would need to demonstrate significant ties to Mexico..job, home, etc

OK, to the first question, no. Just make sure it's all nice and legal.

As to the second...I honestly have NO idea. It seems as though your family size would be 2 however, as your soon to be ex doesn't live with you.

As for being self employed...I'm in the same boat so got myself a co-sponsor to be on the safe side. My perks are far fewer than yours, but I take a hit on my gross income due to a pretty hefty mileage deduction every year. Great for taxes, but stinks for filling out forms.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion 18: How you met.
I went for the short and sweet approach myself...figured they have enough paperwork to work through without reading a 2 page blow by blow account of our relationship.

S and I met through a mutual friend via the internet in 2004, and became fast friends. I visited the UK on July 30 2005-August 7 2005. It obviously went quite well, or I wouldn't be writing this now. He visited the States in March of 2006, I returned to the UK for a visit in July of 2006 and he is currently stateside to spend Christmas with me and my family and will be departing December 27th.

That's not it exactly, but pretty darn close...we did have supporting visa stamps and a couple of boarding passes, as well as his I-90(i think it is? that thing that customs puts in the passport) as he was here when we filed.

Depending on how well put together your paperwork is, and how quickly you gather the stuff you need regarding packet 3 I'd say 6 months is realistic. This is assuming the case is fairly straight forward, IE, no criminal histories, no currently ongoing divorces and both of you are over 18, and that there are no overstays.

Edit to add: London slows down during the summer months due to people going on holiday, the above didn't include that..so depends on when you get packet 3 in.

LOL! So you and SC have problems with the patience thing, too! That's hilarious.

I'm 1/4 Sicilian - I think that alone answers how much patience I have! I'm trying to work on it, though.

I'm yet another who has nearly no patience! I remember clearly as a kid unwrapping the Christmas presents oh-so-carefully, then wrapping them back up so no one could tell! Honey on the other hand has patience to spare. He enjoys tormenting me for my lack of it immensely.

Oh good heavens no! I had issues for the longest time because I want a house with central air! Sadly, houses with that are out of my price range really. A lot of older homes here(I'm in the thick of the Civil War battlegrounds area) and very few of them have central air, geez some of them don't have modernized heat. You should have no trouble finding something like that. There are a lot of areas that are farming based and actually have huge limits on building lots. A neighboring county insists on a minimum of 2 acres for example...which to a New Yorker may sound ridiculously expensive, but the places that have the minimums like that are actually dirt cheap. 3 bedroom house on 2 acres would go for oh, 220,000 in that particular county. (Orange County Virginia)

Alright, firsts things first...http://www.wbuf.noaa.gov/tempfc.htm for the conversions.

Air conditioning, for me, isn't an option because it's HOT and I don't like heat LOL. Cold I can handle no sweat (ha ha at my lame pun), but heat I turn into grumpy lady. You can be well away from the coast, and still be far enough from the mountains you won't see much snow. As I said before, I'm pretty close to the mountains..in the foothills technically, and it's about a 3 hour drive to the beach. You're also going to want to think about city vs. country living because you can definitely have both here.

Well, see, it depends quite a bit on where you are in Virginia. Summers are hot, humid and icky period. This past week we had temps into the 100's and humidity around 60%. Air conditioning is NOT an option IMO. Fall is gorgeous, we have enough of a temperature change for the leaves to put on a show, nothing compared to Vermont, but still beautiful. Winter is hit or miss, this is where location comes into play. I'm very near the mountains so I would get more than someone next to the beach. Blizzards are rare, quite honestly snow totaling more than 6 inches is a once or twice a year occurance..and if it happens make sure you have milk and bread..not because you won't be able to get out, but because everyone panics! We do get ice storms every couple of years and those can be pretty horrendous. Winter temperatures rarely go below the low 30's-high 20's(that's for daytime highs). Spring is again gorgeous..there's so much greenery that you can really see the blooms and blossoms.
One of my warnings to someone planning to move here would be learn to drive the speed limit. The entire state is known for speed traps..and they're sneaky..will sit at the bottom of a hill so as to catch you.

Ahhh I'm northwest of Richmond by a good bit. Very close to Fredericksburg actually. Yes, the wildlife is beautiful, and yes, the minimal concessiosn to foot traffic are unbelievable. When honey was here we spent some time in the mountains, he was flabbergasted by the variety of wildlife. The array of predatory and scavenging birds really interested him. Alas, having had a bad experience with a turkey vulture in my past, I wasn't quite as exuberant as I could have been.

I'm another one that's getting her act together to file. I'm in Northern Virginia, sweetie-pie is in UK, just outside London to be exact. We've been carrying on long distance for well over a year, we're pretty lucky in that we generally get to see each other about every 6 months. We're unsure as to when we're going to file...he's in the process of negotiating with his place of employment an idea that could well pay for his moving expenses, plus pretty much clinch the support paperwork if they go for it. (BIG if) Thus we're waiting to see if they go for it or not..that'll have a fairly large impact on when we file.

Since we're talking about added stressors (tee hee) I have a large family..5 children to be exact. They love him to bits and are pretty much constantly asking when he's coming to visit again. We haven't told them that he's moving...he wants to more or less ask their permission first, which I think is lovely. And I'm house hunting..a process that began before I knew for sure he was moving...we'd talked about it for quite some time, but he officially announced his intentions only 2 weeks ago. I've found a gorgeous 1920's farm house that's well within my means and am bidding on it, but I'm worried all those things you worry about when buying a house. Eek. On the bright side, when honey moves he'll have loads to keep him occupied while he's out of work!
