United Kingdomvisting fiancee whilst k1 processing
My fiancee came for a visit recently and had no issues at all. I am the worrywart in the relationship, and had him bring all sorts of proof, including a copy of his interview letter. They didn't ask anything about the K-1 being processed-so he had a good laugh at my expense. He came through Dulles International.

United KingdomIts ALMOST eastery time!
On a sad note, honey left me several chocolate eggs as an Easter treat. I was being good and saving them until after Sunday. They were being kept at the very back of my kitchen counter, and all the children had been threatened with death, or worse no TV, if they so much as looked a them too hard.
The friggin' dog ate all of them two nights ago. She's fine, no ill reaction at all, but I'M ill as I didn't even get a nibble. :crying:

United KingdomI'm so glad this weekend is about over..
Thank you for the congratulations.

Here's what we did...I called the State Department yesterday and said "Is everything OK?" Was informed they had issued the visa the 4th. (I also called the 5th actually...was told we were in AP(WHAT?!?!) Called my man and said "It should be on it's way." He called the embassy to get the couriers number, called the courier, and was told unless it's 5 days missing they don't much care. After all this went on between 8:30 and 10:00 my time(1:30 and 3:00 his). Visa was delivered at 4:00 his time.

As a warning, he didn't get any notice at all it was coming, or had been dropped off.

I lied earlier unintentionally. SO actually got the flight for well under 300 pounds(I can't get the symbol to work either grrr). Apparently BA and Virgin are running the same deal...there was about 20p difference in the prices.

Sounds like a plan to me.

SO is making a short visit in March as he found a flight from Heathrow to Dulles for just over 300 pounds.

"Open yer eyes, ya wee bloody dwarf!!" I was taken to a football game my first visit there, and there were some rather excited Scottish gentlemen behind us.

Things I purposefully avoid saying as I sound like an idiot saying them with a Southern accent:

Called the State Department Friday and was told his interview date, April 2nd 9AM. The lady I spoke to actually laughed at my reaction. I hope she gets the hearing back in that ear really soon.

Was informed today that we're now on the waiting list for an appointment. Typical response on how long it'll take to get an interview date.

Caved and called the State Department today. We aren't as yet in the system. ARGH! I wonder how long you're in the system before Packet 4 goes out. Hmm.

Ahhhh geeeeeez. I promised the SO I wouldn't call the State Dept. Now that's going to be a doozy of a promise to keep. He wants to be the one to tell me the good news.

The medical btw, was totally uneventful apparently. He had a titre done as he had no possibility of getting shot records, and they came back indecisive. Turns out according to the official doctor he needs a couple of boosters. One MMR and tetanus.

I would say it's OK. Course, I've only been waiting a week and am already dancing a bit with impatience...and waiting for a phone call or email telling me how the medical went.

United KingdomHoney is coming for a visit, and I'm suddenly paranoid.
Ok, his flight is taking off in about 20 minutes. I'm suddenly paranoid they're going to deny him entry. He's got all sorts of proof of ties, mortgage stuff etc etc, and his appointment letter from his packet 4. He jokingly said he was going to bring his bank statements to point out that doing things the proper way is costing more than the flight.

I just need a head pat and someone to say, "Silly woman, everything is going to be fine."

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134 question really far in advance.
I'm worried about not being able to use the child support as income as it's isn't court ordered..I have time enough to copy checks before cashing them. I'm hesitant to go through court proceedings as I'm paid on time and it would cause bad feeling(my ex is odd that way).

I thought I had filled out my timeline sorry. Going to be going through London.
ThingeeFemaleUnited Kingdom2006-08-02 11:16:00
US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134 question really far in advance.
Alright, I have 2 jobs, one of which is as an 'independent contractor'(I deliver newspapers), the other is hourly. In addition to these I recieve child support that is NOT court ordered. I've read previously that for the I-134 they're going to want my gross income, not my net which makes a huge difference as at year end I claim a substantial mileage deduction(this is great for taxes, but really cruddy for loan apps..mortgage lender took nearly 20 dollars a day out of my income..yeouch) All in all I'm hovering right at that 125% mark, over by the skin of my teeth taking a minimalist view of things, meaning very few hours at hourly job.

I do realize in advance they're going to kind of look at this peculiar financial arrangement pretty hard. I have a co-sponsor already lined up that's well over the requirements. In addition my honey has a flat he'll be selling that he has substantial equity in. Suggestions on how best to plan representing all this?
ThingeeFemaleUnited Kingdom2006-08-02 09:11:00
US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionSlightly out of the ordinary I-134 question.
Thank you for all the replies.

In regards to how much cash he's going to have on hand....we're not exactly sure yet. He's going to be selling his flat. Lives in Watford, bought little over 10 years ago, thus has loads of equity. Yes, he's planning on selling before the visa goes through and renting something for the duration..that way he has that cash on hand at the interview. At a guess I'd estimate he'll have about 50k quid in cash.

I do have a current appraisal, but it was a government appraisal (FHA loan) and I was told they usually estimate on the low side?
ThingeeFemaleUnited Kingdom2006-12-03 15:55:00
US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionSlightly out of the ordinary I-134 question.
I'm worrying quite far in advance, which for me is very ordinary. We're going to be going through the London embassy for a K-1 visa.

If self-sponsoring does he need to show liquid assets enough to support everyone that an I-134 would have to support? (I've got lots of little tax deductions running around)

I'm a self-employed contractor for a newspaper. Meaning I'm a paper lady, which means my taxes look a bit bizarre...I get a HUGE mileage deduction each year from my dear old Uncle Sam, but it also makes my income look much much lower(great for taxes, sucks for about everything else). I'm assuming that I file gross income on I-134, not net..if incorrect please don't hesitate to call me an idiot.

I own a home, in which I have a good amount of equity. I assume this can only help, but can it be used to help round out the I-134 and any shortfalls in it? If so, would I need a new appraisal, or just my word that it's worth 'x'?

Thanks in advance.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionProof of ongoing relationship....
Trying to get a jump on getting together info for the next step. We still don't have many pictures together...even with reminding each other we only managed 3. What we DO have is 4-6 months worth of phone bills going both ways(they go back further than that, and I'm sure we could get our hands on them if needed further back) and 2 1/2 years worth of instant messages. He's the one that archives everything, and he isn't thrilled with the idea of printing off all those messages. I'm guessing that blips from the last year will suffice? Combined with the phone bills, pictures, and passport stamps I mean.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionUSC's Certified copy of birth certificate
It's a fairly standard thing. The reason you need it is for your own records...these guys aren't as hard to please as USCIS. And yep, 4 weeks is pretty standard for delivery, though a good many places have expediated processing for an extra fee.

Now then, I'm not that familiar with New York(if I'm wrong about your location sorry) but here in Virginia birth records are only available through the state records office, not the town or county office. Same goes for Oklahoma actually(I was born there).

Editted to say 'proof you need it' is 'for my records'

Hm..we have tickets for the Metro from a nearby station into DC proper(I don't drive in DC if I can help it) Tickets for the London underground for July '05 and '06. Blackpool tickets for '05. I just checked my online bank statement and my ATM withdrawal from London is showing up, complete with Train station where I made the withdrawal. He used his credit card while here, and I assume the statements could be gotten, and they would show the name of the town where I live wouldn't they? It's a very very uncommon town name...and a smallish town.

Evidence on hand: *boarding passes from Heathrow to Dulles flight and back(on his hands) dated March 9-20 2006 *copy of itinerary for airline tickets from Dulles to Heathrow and back dated for July 12-23 2006 *ATM slip from Bank of Scotland from London(the ink is really really faint on this) *Luggage tag from return flight July 23rd *Train ticket from Watford(where he actually lives) into London(my name isn't on this..have tickets from last years visit as well) *The before mentioned sets of pictures
There are other ticket stubs as well, but I assumed they wouldn't do any good as they are in his name alone (Jamie Cullum concert for my birthday present this year :D )

My question wasn't so idiotic after all. After much thought on my part I realize we have 2 sets of pictures...one of each of us in the Blue Ridge mountains(exact same spot...just switched places basically) and one in front of the fountains at Chatsworth same deal..basically just swapped...that's the only way we gets pics done I'm afraid..making deals to swap places or on the sly(He actually stooped to taking one of me grabbing a nap on the couch with my twins...horrible horrible picture, but you can tell just looking I REALLY needed the rest). We also have some video footage of one of the moving type sculptures there with both our voices on tape..course that won't do us much good as they'd have to be willing to pop in a strange dvd.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresOk, idiotic question I'm not going to like the answer too, butttttttt
I'd be going through the VSC, he's going to be going through the London embassy. I'm thinking it's going to be better to wait as hard as it is....rather wait a few more months than have some sort of black mark for not responding or a rejection(and from my understanding Vermont processes things rather quickly..maybe a October/November filing??). Quick bio: Me=USC, 31(on Friday), northern Virginia area, 5 kids and divorced. Him=UKC, 42, just outside London, no kids, never married. Yes, we've given loads of thought and conversation to the fact he's going to be facing double culture shock.

A quick visit isn't really possible on either end....too close to school starting up for me, and can't take off from work again having just returned. He can't take off work again due to projects that must be finished by years end.(Thus the question in his next visit as well)

We weren't on any flights together. I flew there, then back home. He flew here then back home. I flew there again and back home again(week home today *sob*) Worst part about the time difference is knowing you can't call them to discuss something right that very second no matter how much you may want to. I'm going to run your very kind opinions by honey tomorrow after he gets off work. He may want to wait a couple of months before filing anyway...big to-do at work that would guarantee him a glowing reference after the move..and an upcoming interview with a stateside company with several offices in my area. Thanks bunches folks. If anyone needs any advice of any sort that I have a prayer of helping with let me know please!

We're not exactly sure when our next visit is...hopefully over Christmas if his work doesn't interfere, if not Christmas, then January. All tickets were indeed bought online, and THAT information we both still have. I'm worried about the airline tickets not being quite enough as I don't live in a city large enough to support international flights. 60 or so miles is the nearest one. I think I'm just looking for things to worry about honestly. ARGH again.

Honey and I are both goobers that dislike having our pictures taken. We've 'snuck' pictures of each other, but never quite got around to posing together in any way. Should I not even consider filing I-129f until after our next visit, making it a point to have photos taken together? I realize the answer is probably 'yes wait'. We have pictures of us obviously taken at the same time at the same place (Blue Ridge Mountains in winter, gorgeous clear day) and at least one set of round trip boarding passes (depending if I can find mine...tossed them not even thinking I'd need them, he has his) I have pictures of him with my kids, but I doubt that's going to hold up quite as well...I can just see the letter..'I swear this is my kid and my fiancee making guacamole' ARGH, I'm not just jealous of the people that have been approved, I'm jealous of the people that have filed.
