I had to explain the change of procedure to ASC personnel - they had no idea about it - as they said "we find out last". No orders needed, had my husband in the car waiting for me - just took his mil ID alongside mine. Also empty ASC and was called up right as I finished that info paper.


:) I swear we know more about this whole process than any of the employers. Me too, I was called up while I was still finishing that paper. We joked around with the ASC personnel. Turns out they were all in the military at some point in their lives. So we had lots to talk about.

My husband mentioned that the ASC office seems very hidden. There was also no mentioning of USCIS anywhere at the entrance which kind of surprised me as well. The ASC guy told us that they did that on purpose because they didn't want people to just stumble in and inquire about immigration processes. (We live in an area with a very large Hispanic and African population!)

That's what I did too - the process changed back in March for family members of military - you can actually walk into any ASC even without FP appointment as long as you have N400 filed.


Yeah, I read online that military service members can come in any time. I didn't see anything about family members, so I told my husband to hop into his uniform and come with me. :) The officer seemed hesitant at first but then glanced at my husband and said "Okay, here is your number." I was prepared with orders though in case they wouldn't have let me take them early. Plus there was no one there anyways. My number was called right away.

I got my FP taken early. Pulled the military card and it worked once again. :)

My N-400 was delivered yesterday (I didn't send it overnight - FedEx Ground. I like to keep it cheap! ;) ). It's a small step but it's something.

In a different thread I read about someone who didn't have to go get their biometrics done because they were less than 12 months old. I had mine taken in Nov 2009, maybe I am one of the lucky ones who doesn't have to go. We'll see.

Sort of. I am going to apply for the Environmental Science Officer or Sanitary Engineer Officer slots. They are part of the Medical Service Corps under Preventive Medicine. Just finishing up my M.Sc. at Johns Hopkins University (May 2011) before I can submit my package. I am really excited about this new path I'll be taking.

So you mean if someone wants citizenship it is not right? First rate treatment comes with citizenship in thus country..the rest is treated like ######. It is only normal if people want and apply for citizenship.


Don't missunderstand me... I was refering to the short period of time that we have been married, to the fact that I have only had my greencard since last year, and also to the issue that they were saying that we need to proof that we have a "bona fide relationship" if I want to apply for Lifting of Conditions, if in fact they would grant me citizenship right away without proofing it. My remarks were just some thoughts in my mind.

Of course, it is normal to apply for citizenship and I am eventually going to do it. But not right now and now at this moment because first of all we are going to live in Germany, second of all we don't know yet what the future will bring, third of all I want to go to school in Germany and forth of all I don't feel ready yet...

I just think that it's weird...

Well, we didn't talk to a lawyer. It was just some immigration representatives that talked to my husband and me. I have been researching... but maybe I should just calm down and see what the time will bring. Maybe they will accept some sort of statement that we are overseas and that they should shcedule my interview for when we are back... but those are just some thoughts...

Well, as some of you might know, my husband and I will be moving to Germany some time this summer. He is in the US Army and his unit is relocating there. The good thing is that I am German and since we are going to live in Germany, I don't want to lose my citizen status. On the other hand I also don't want to lose my Greencard that we paid big bucks for. So my conclusion was to apply for Lifting Conditions before going to Germany, so that I can at least have my 10-year greencard since my conditional greencard expires in about next year.

Today we went to an immigration briefing on the Army post. I asked my question to one of the ladies there. They told me that I am eligible to apply for US-citizenship right now because my husband is in the Armed Forces and because we are deploying overseas together. BUT I don't really want my US-citizenship yet because there is not time to put in application that would let me keep my German citizenship as well (Our move is projected to be in 3 to 4 months already and we don't even have any orders yet to get everything expedited because apparently the Army takes its time...).

What doesn't make sense to me is that they told me that I can't file for Lifting of Conditions yet because we have to proof that we have a "bona fide relationship" (All that I was thinking was "Hello, we got all the paperwork you want to see... plus, we have been a couple for almost five years... plus, don't you get that I am not hear to be a US-citizen and that I just want to avoid more paperwork and hassle by getting a 10-year greencard... and doesn't that mean that we have a true marriage because I DON'T want to apply for citizenship yet because that's not what I am after.")

So yeah, they wouldn't give me a 10-year greencard...
...yet on the other hand they would grant me US-citizenship right away... something is wrong here...

Hey there,

It's finally time for me to submit my I-751. :) I have been gathering all the paperwork. But I have got one question. My husband and I are living overseas on Military orders. There are special instruction for getting your fingerprints done since you can't just fly over to the USA to the nearest immigration office. I got my fingerprint card today and am wondering if I still have to pay the biometrics fee or if that is waived by having this card.

And another short questions, I am thinking about flying to the USA around Christmas to visit my in-laws. My 10-year Greencard most likely won't be approved by then. Can I still fly, let's say with the NOA1 and the Greencard?

If it's a government job, for example US military personel, then you can file from overseas. This is the case for us since my husband is in the Army and we got stationed in Germany. You can't file from overseas if you have any job that's not a government job.

We are living in Germany too and I just filed my I-751. We filed at the Nebraska Service Center because we used to live in Washington State before and Nebraska deals with that state. Since you don't know anymore which state or address you put down, just send it to Nebraska anyways because in the instructions it says "if you live elsewhere in the USA mail your petition to: USCIS Nebraska Service Center". I'd say APO addresses would count as "elsewhere".

Don't provide any stateside address though. Just use your APO address when you file and write MILITARY ORDERS on top of the form. As far as I know there won't be an interview. They will just mail you the green card. You also need to get a finger print card that you can get at the Security Office that is usually in the same building as finance, housing whatever. Where do you live in Germany? Oh and you are German too. smile.gif

We got a money order by USPS. Maybe I should check with them too just to ease my mind... but according to the other timelines, we should get our NOA1 any day now.

My answer is the first option. I was able to check my case status as soon as I received my NOA1. The difference with my case is that I don't need a biometrics appointment because we are stationed overseas.

In addition to all the evidence that has been mentioned, we also sent Power of Attorneys. Since my husband has been away for extended periods of time (military), we got a ton of different POAs, so that I can handle financial or personal business in his name. I know that not everyone needs those... but I think that's a pretty good piece of evidence.
