PhilippinesWhere in Cebu Can We Buy Discounted Phil Air Ticket to USA?

I've read varying accounts about whether a 20% discount to the USA is actually available to K1 visa holders on Phil Air. Has anyone received this discount lately? Does anyone know a travel agency where it's available in Cebu? Thanks for your help ...

I went on PAL and bought a one way ticket for 600. I have no idea if thats a good price or not.

To where?? Did you mention this was for a K1 recipient? Supposedly when you mention that, then the discount comes into play.

hey bill,
did st luke's gave her the 2 sheets of vaccination copy and an xray film? then they told her that her passport and med result will be forwarded to the embassy and she can make it on tuesday? if so, she's all set  nothing to worry about med now, just let her focus on the interview. i wish you luck!

I don't know about two sheets. In any case, all sounds good from what you say.

I believe that most folks would agree for your beloved to push forward on the assigned medical exam date. Just keep in mind that there is a possiblity that she can be rescheduled, but hopefully not. We'll keep the ((((good vibes)))) going so things will go smoothly...

Cheers!!!

Joan pushed, and got her foot - and the rest of her thru the door at St. Lukes. Yesterday, everything was done except for the exam itself and the inoculations. These will be done Friday when she returns.. Then her interview will proceed as scheduled next Tuesday. All good stuff!!!

But knowing this sequence and timing isn't the norm, I am concerned about something bad happening. The questions I pose to you (collectively) are -

1. During a nice normal physical, what happens between the end of the medical and the interview??

2. Those of you who have been thru this, what are things that might go wrong??

3. What can Joan do to prevent any #2's from happening??

We are sooooooooooooo close. I just don't want anything to go wrong at the very end.

Mahalo,
Bill and Joan

the important question is, did she have the xray test? if she did and they didnt ask for her for another xray or any other test, then its a good sign... let her try to be early this friday, have the physical test and be done with the immunization and then st luke's will forward her passport and med result to the embassy (that's what happened during nice days). they will send it as soon as possible if not saturday, then monday the latest and hoping for the best it will be ready on tuesday for her interview... ive heard some officer telling some filipina at the embassy that they're still waiting for the med result/passport and let them wait for a bit in the waiting area... or some would go thru the interview then if pass, the embassy will only release the visa if they have the med result already...

Yes, as far as I know, radiology is done. Just the exam and shots remain. Can Joan do anything to expedite the transfer of medical and passport to the USE??

Joan finished her physical today, and everything seems on track for Tuesday. They asked her when her interview was and assured her the USE would have everything they need.

Is all of the following normal -
they took 3 upper-torso x-rays - front, side and back
they gave her the xrays and and "inoculation certificate"(?) - she only needed one
everything else is supposedly going to the USE
when she asked a nurse if everything was ok, the nurse said she could not disclose results

Does all this sound pretty typical?? Are we over the hump??

Aloha kakou,

Joan has her medical scheduled Tuesday and Wednesday of this week and her interview next Tuesday. Over the weekend, mother nature visited Joan. I know from reading here that she will most likely be sent away. How likely is it she could take her physical Friday and Monday and still have her interview Tuesday? Needless to say - rescheduling the interview would be a blow to us both.

Mahalo,
Bill and Joan

What exactly is done these two days? Can everything be done except the pelvic exam - and that be done at the end of the week? What options are open to us??

PhilippinesBest time to take medical

My interview has been scheduled for 10/2. My medical is scheduled for 9/25. I'm planning to take my medical on an earlier date. Is there a time of the month or day of the week that is better to take my medical? Otherwise, I'm planning to take it during the first two weeks of September. Should I St Lukes to reschedule my medical or is it okay for me to just show up -- no appointment needed?

Thanks

If you have your appointment letter, that's your ticket in irregardless of appointment date. In all seriousness, I would schedule around your period (or lack of).

PhilippinesAny cheap flights out there?

PAL offers 20% discounts to first time immigrants.

Chad - How did you do that?? I called PAL today and the lady I talked to didn't know anything of it.

Try calling Nobel Travel on Maui.
I booked flights for my wife and anak thru them on PAL.
Also for myself in the past a few times.
At first they said they didn't know anything about a first time immigrant discount.
Called me back and I got it.
I flew my wife and anak Mabuhay [business] and they didn't have to show the visas.
They did tell me if they were flying economy they would have to fax a copy of the visas or show them when they picked up their tickets in Philippines.
Price with discount was about $900 for wife and 720 for anak if I remember correctly.
It was almost a year ago tho and maybe things have changed.
I think I mentioned all this before.

Ha!! That's funny.. I was there today (talked to Teresita the owner) and she claimed no knowledge of that type of discount. Maybe I'll print this and show it to her Monday as I work in Wailuku also.

Be careful referring anyone to Hawaii right now. That tropical storm is a little rough looking for the immediate future.

Little breezy here on Maui - nothing more. Hawai`i Island is getting the brunt of it - and it's still not that bad. Tomorrow - back to normal.

In my reserve flights, I will arrive at Agana, Guam 4:00am and depart of Houston at 6:25am (non-working hours).
Do they have immigration officers at this hours?

I heard Guam may not be an 'official' POE and you may get deferred to Honolulu. You may wish to consider bypassing Guam and go directly to Honolulu - then onto Houston.

PAL flies direct. Leaves Manila at 330pm on Tu, Thr and Sat and arrives in Honolulu at 745am the same day. Immigration has been staffed both times I came thru at that time of day.

Bill

Guam is an official US POE. Only customs is deferred to Honolulu, so you don't collect your bags until you are in Honolulu.

In this case, what is the difference between POE and customs? I am very curious as this is a option for Joan also. As far as bags, that's no big deal as she needs to get them anyways to transfer to an inter-island airline to get to Maui.

PhilippinesAdditional ticket charges
QUOTE (vsmtghdy @ Aug 19 2007, 09:37 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
If the ticket was purchased in the Philippines, the travel tax is usually already included in the fee. If the ticket was purchased outside the Philippines, then she may have to pay the Philippine travel tax (they have PTA counter at NAIA).
Travel tax for Economy Class: p1,620.00
Travel tax for First Class: p2,700.00

Terminal fee is p550.00 plus the Security fee/charge of p200.00 = Total of: p750/passenger

Island_princess -> I don't think there are terminal fees for stop-overs. We had a stop-over at SFO then to Redding and we did not pay any terminal fees there. I'm not sure. Maybe others can give light on this.

Mahalo... That was the number my feeble memory was trying to recall. Can I assume that tickets bought on the web (looks like Continental at this point) would not be inclusive of this charge?

In general, is the whole process simpler if the ticket is purchased in PI??

PhilippinesFeasibility of our CFO plan
Aloha kakou,

It looks as tho Joan will be leaving Manila on 9-19 at 10:50pm (Continental). Is this scenario possible without much stress -

Get a service ride from Olongapo/Subic to a Manila hotel near the CFO early on the 18th
Take the 2pm CFO
Stay overnight at the hotel
Pick up the sticker on the 19th - and still have plenty time to get to the airport

Aside from the feasibility question -

Will she get the sticker at the same place the seminar was held?
Any suggestions on a hotel in that area?
How can you be assured of reliable transportation in Manila?? At the minimum, she'll need a ride from the hotel to the airport.

PhilippinesMore than a journey, an odyssey begins.
QUOTE (davecave @ Oct 27 2007, 10:20 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
As everyone here knows, the road to a K1 visa is long, winding, and strewn with pot-holes. In my case, there are a few extra side trips that I've been sent on.

I have a physical disability that makes it impossible to travel without a companion. It's just too hard to manage a wheelchair, and all of the little things that come up, without some help. I don't have much difficulty in my daily life.

I haven't traveled to the Philippines to meet my fiancee in person, so we have not met the two year meeting requirement. The obvious option would be getting a tourist visa for her, but of course, that is not so easy.

Another choice would be to apply for the K1, and cite hardship as a reason for not having met. Searches here, and of other sites yield responses that none have ever heard of such applications being approved.

The good news is that I have read through several years worth of K1 appeals cases, and I found seven cases that were approved on appeal. From reading those, and many, many denials, I also learned what I need to do.

I must provide detailed documentation, from my physician, of my disability, and that I am unable to travel to the Philippines, or a third country.

She must apply for a tourist visa. If she is denied, I then have proof that we tried to meet in person. If she is approved, that's great!

She has an interview on Thursday, November 8, at 9:00 AM, at the Embassy in Manila. She has no strong ties. To try to help her chances of approval, I have sent a letter for her to present, stating our situation, a letter from my doctor, and though it probably won't make any difference, an affidavit of support, and financial evidence.

I also wrote letters to my U.S. Senators, and Congresswoman. I explained that without an approved tourist visa, it was almost a certainty that a K1 application would face even more delays than usual, due to our having not met in person.

I think it is a reasonable request to have a tourist visa granted in these types of situations.

I now that some of you will question how I can be sure about a woman that I have not spent time with. It sounds very strange to me, that two people can fall in love on the telephone. Neither of us are naive. We have both loved before, and been hurt before. We talk about the real world and life, not just the dreamy, romantic things of new love. All I can say is that we "click" in ways that I never did before. I have known other women for years, and not known the as well. She and I are in sync. I do agree that being able to spend time together is important. Both of us are hoping against all odds that her tourist visa is approved.

Any thoughts, or suggestions?

Thanks for listening. I'm sorry if my post is confusing. This whole process has me feeling like a dog who's chasing his tail!

Dave loves Amy

Because of your disability, I think it in both of your best interests to meet in whatever way you can.
