Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)traveling after green card
QUOTE (payxibka @ Mar 12 2009, 08:03 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
This does not appear to be a Ukrainian issue... this is a departure from the USA issue.... Ukraine does not have any say in who goes from the USA... I am quite sure a notarized letter from mommy authorizing your travel will get you OUT of the USA (remember there is no exit passport control here).... I had to do this for my minor USC son traveling to Canada with a non-parent... Canada let him in, USA let him return.

The answer however may be very different for an exit from Ukraine.

What about letting him travel as an unaccompanied minor? This happens all the time and for kids younger than yours..... Lat time I came back there had to be a dozen or more an the plane from WAW to ORD coming from all over the place

(not a K-1 issue... moving to regional forum)

There is also a fee for letting him travel unaccompanied. Last time I had to do that for one of my boys it was $75 per segment and you had to do it for all segments that direction.

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)Any advice to my stepson about returning to Ukriane
I have an acquaintance here that left a daughter in Odessa with grandparents for the same reasons. Her youngest (a son) came to America with his mom. Returning periodically so she didn't lose her status was a problem, but they were able to work it out. Now the daughter is married, has a degree in journalism, and lives in Kiev. She is apparently very happy. Some kids just can't take the culture shock, or don't want to start a new life - and realistically what teenager does want that? I am sure you all will make the right decision. Things have a way of working out. smile.gif

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)Inheritance of property under married name in Eastern Europe
Hello all - thanks in advance for your help and opinions.

Vika and I are talking about having both a civil and church marriage in Ukraine next year. She has heard that it will be a huge problem to inherit property from her grandparents and parents if her name and address of record are changed. She is currently named in three wills, and has been told repeatedly by relatives and others that a civil marriage will cause all sorts of problems. What if anything can be done about this, or is it much ado about nothing?

Go to the "my assistant" section above and click "edit timeline". There is a button to select embassy. Welcome and good luck.

Just have a care that the embassy does not become aware of the K-1 before the B-2 is approved (maybe even used, I don't know). Although I see what you are trying to do, a CO might think you are engaging in fraud, or at least make you wait for the K-1. The trouble is that some people do a faster visa than a K, then marry once their SO arraives in the US. If your intent was to marry before, and you didn't file a K visa, it is a problem.

Probably already answered (in practice) about a bazillion times.

The Pakistani (since Pakistan allows true-dual citizenship, where a Pakistani who naturalises to UK, Canada or US can still use a valid Pak passport) can simply use the Pak passport to enter/exit at Pakistan's airports and the US passport to re-enter US.

(my dad at UCalgary had a Lahorite Christian colleague who did the equivalent lots of times)
I am confused because I dont know which passport they would stamp at entry/exit.By US law we have to get US passport stamped but it wont have a PAK VISA.Do they only stamp Pakistani passport and US passport is just used to get back here. unsure.gif
I'll explain it tangentially.

How about using the Pak passport to enter (and leave--when boarding return flight to US) Pakistan, and US passport only at re-entry in US?

Tangential personal experience here: I went on a trip to India in May 2005 shortly after I was naturalised (April 2005--I had to get expedited US passport for re-entry), using two Canadian passports (blank unexpired one, expired one with 10-year visa--Canuck passports are only valid 5 years, and the last trip I had made to India was in 1999 Dec/2000 Jan). Basically, i showed both Canuck passports on landing in Chennai (also on departure from there) and US passport when I landed back in US. In fact, I was specifically told at midflight (stopover at CDG) to do this.

(unfortunately, I cannot remember which passport/s I showed for boarding the flight to India at the US end)

What a mess blink.gif

Asia: SouthTraveling with two foreign passports
I am a lifelong USC with a question on this topic. In situations where a dual citizen is traveling on two passports, are both passports presented at POE? Years ago, I entered the Phillipines on military orders (orders were stamped at entry), and left from Manila on my passport. The passport control officer at the Manila airport did not want to accept the stamped orders as a valid entry. Does passport control question a naturalized USC with stamps in two passports? I am sure this happens all the time, and I wonder how it is dealt with. Thanks

I think I read somewhere that even in cases of pregnancy or a child, these things are just one factor for the consular officer to consider. It seems possible that they could fail to grant a pink slip because the child alone simply isn't enough evidence of a relationship, and may want genetic testing any way depending. Don't take the risk - if you are wrong the child suffers most I think. The stakes are too high.

Sadly the embassies are in the habit of telling people their AP will only last a certain amount of time. AP can last anywhere from one day to several years. I suggest you hop down to the Waivers forum and join the AP thread there. You are not alone and will receive a lot of support and information from others who are/have been on AP.

They live happily ever after? They would file the I-130 and when a visa number becomes current they will continue with the processing. If the intending immigrant is in the country in status they can file the I-485 when the visa number becomes current or they will continue the processing for the visa at the consulate.

I can't help u with the waiting or give u an easy answer but I can explain a little. My fiance also was told his visa was ready and after flying to Turkey and waiting over a week was told he was sent for additional checks.
Prior to issuing the visa the embassy must run a CLASS check (dont' know exactly what all databases it checks) and if there is any sort of a hit they must send the case back to DOS for additional checks.
Thus although he may be clear this week, if new information arises tomorrow containing a name similar to his he will be sent back for more checks.
I was told by DOS this is not uncommon and can happen, as in your case, multiple times.
There is nothing that can be done, there is no point at which they say, OK we have done enough checks, nothing. So long as a name similiar to his comes up his visa will not be issued.

I live here in Louisville. And as for a big Asian community for Thai people I not so sure. Though there are several Thai resturants run by families. They may be able help you out. There is the "Crane House" on 4th St. I believe, that may have information for you. I do need to double check on the name and address.

One good place to check is at Fort Knox and Radcliff because of the base you will have many wives from all over.

Kentucky biggest asian groug is Japanese due to Toyota ans spin off auto company suppliers. Other groups are quite smaller. I'm a widower and my first wife was Japanese and she found a few ladies to talk to due too her job.

Hope it helps.

Hey, Tuk, How are things job and economy wise in Louisville? I lived there in the late 1990s and my fiancée is open to a relocation when she gets her. I'm possibly considered moving back.

Hello Kazan' Tiger,

One reason that we moved to KY because of I don't think I will be able to offord house in San Diego .. lol .. If you're starting a new job over here, might not be as much as you can get in CA (still, cost of living here is not as much also). If you consider relocating I think it's ok here, at least I like it content.gif People here seem nice so far .. but I can't believe there are more accidents here than San Diego! The sad part for me is only not many asain people (me whistling.gif )

I moved to USA only 3 years, don't really know much, don't know if you asked the wrong person content.gif.

Hi there, .. first .. I'm Thai. :P Hope this will help you decide what you want to do .. (sorry if my english is not good good :P )

Dowry, why dowry? .. Thai thinks this way... after the daugthers get marry, she's not belonging to her family anymore .. but normally every childrens should support their parent when they grow up. Because most Thai people don't have retirement plan, they don't even know what is retirement. Some might have saving money but some minght not. This money could help them when they couldn't work anymore. Most of the case (if the family is not just after money) the bride parent would give the dowry back .. may be half, may be all .. base on her family.

I don't like the sound that your g/f decides to have ceremony AFTER you guys start working on paper to get her to us. I think this should be discuss before you think about starting your life together.. not add it later. But .. wedding ceremony would show your respect to her family. But since she already has 2 kids, the dowry shouldn't be that much.

I think you should talk to her, where would the money goes? do you still have to pay for the ceremony, party, ring??? is it possible to pay less than 200,000? ... don't afraid to talk, you're starting your life together. that money could save to buy a ticket for her to visit Thailand later or bring her family to visit her later .. or do something ..

Good Luck

Just remember that if you give up your residence in the us, you will have to cancel your application for his visa to come here. If you still want to come to the us to live, you would have to come back here and establish a residence again, then start the process over again. I was considering going to live with my fiance while we wait, but I can't afford to keep a residence here while I am gone. This is what the DOS told me...

Asia: SouthCalling your SO cheaper
I am looking at it and I don't understand the limitations of who can call for free or not. I am guessing you are not able to do the free calls between India and US???

QUOTE (ms_jinga_lala @ Dec 29 2008, 06:39 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I posted this on the South Asia thread and just thought maybe it would be good here too. There current rates from the US to India is 2.4 cents a min and it keeps a call log for you that you can download to MS Excel and print. You have to prepay for the minutes of use, but there is also a free option too that might work for you.

www.jaxtr.com

How this works is you put in your phone number and information and the number you would like to call. They give you a number that is local to you and as long as you have unlimited long distance it's a free call. For example, I live in North Carolina but got a Texas number to dial. It's free for me to call, and I only get billed by jaxtr. You have to prepay your jaxtr account and they have several options available. It works in many countries, just check to see to make sure yours is available. My fiancee tried to use it in India, but received a number that cost him 2 rupees a min which was better than the 10 it cost to call me before. Then he had to pay for jaxtr in addition to that. It was still a lot cheaper.

Also they have something you can set up to call for free to anyone on the jaxtr network. You have to approve callers before jaxtr will allow the calls to go through. Check into it and see which options work for you.

I never complained much due to the currency advantage when I am in India, but for the sake of fairness,

Is it fair I have to pay 30-40% extra for the same domestic airfare, book at the same time, siting right next to each other.

PAY 10X more than the local to go to a Museum, Went to visit this Palace, my wife got to experience it 1st hand, been to several parts of india so it's kinda normal since I got used to it, but charging 20 Rupees for local and a WHOPPING 200 Rs. for the same ticket doesn't seem reasonable, maybe a small percentage difference but 10 times more is crazy.

Just don't feel it's too tourist friendly to keep overcharging foreigners.

What if we would start charging extra for everybody that's here on H1, B1/B2 to visit our museums, for their airfare ticket?
